chapter one
For charity
IT WAS EARLY AFTERNOON WHEN DINAH made her way to the bar to open it up. Her mind had been a million places at once lately, so it was quite nice to just wiggle back into her old routine. Wake up early, run errands, open the bar, and meet all the people that the quarter had to offer.
However, Marcel had different plans for her.
"Nice day, huh, Di?" The man said as he walked up behind the woman, making her jump.
She had been getting scared quite often lately.
"Marcel!" Dinah laughed as she turned on her heel to face him. "Never do that again, you almost gave me a heart attack."
"Sorry." The Gerard man wore his signature grin on his face. "I thought you seen me coming."
"Nope." The Levy woman cleared her throat as she brushed a strand of hair away from her face, straightening herself out. "What's up?"
"I have to talk business with you, can we discuss this inside?" The man confidently pointed his head towards the door that had her key in it, gesturing for her to unlock it fully.
"Of course." Dinah nodded lightly as she twisted the key, the door opening up after she twisted the handle.
Both adults walked inside, the Levy woman setting her purse down on the bar counter.
"Remember that guy you met the other day? Elijah Mikaelson?" Marcel asked, getting straight to the point, he couldn't and didn't want to waste any time.
"Yeah, but how do you know I met Elijah?" If Dinah was honest, she hadn't stopped thinking of the man, but she was also mad he hadn't showed up back at the bar anymore, and told herself she was better off.
"Doesn't matter." The Gerard man stepped forward, grabbing his friend by the wrist as he looked into her eyes. "There is a charity event at my place, and you are coming. His siblings will be there so your job will be to distract them for whatever i'm doing, are we clear?"
"Yes Marcel, I will go to your charity event and distract Elijah's siblings." The Levy woman replied as if she was in a trance.
"I already bought your clothes and had them delivered to your house." Marcel let go of the woman's arm, making sure he hadn't marked or bruised her in any way. "Don't be late, and I want you to act like this is going to be the party of your life."
"I'm never late to anything." Dinah answered, a smile on her face like she had just received the greatest news on earth.
"That's exactly what i'm counting on." The Gerard man replied.
His smile devious.
DINAH LEVY WAS ALWAYS UP FOR A PARTY, especially charity events like the ones that Marcel threw frequently. The thing about tonight however was that she was overly excited, she found it weird but obviously couldn't help it. Maybe it was the fact that there was a possibility Elijah would be there? Or maybe it was her needing to destress, either way, she was ecstatic.
"How do I look?" Cami asked, snapping her best friend from her own thoughts. The blonde came out in an angelic looking outfit and had wings to match.
... and in Dinah's black attire? They looked like good and evil.
"You look amazing and, you'll have heads turning."Dinah smiled widely at the girl who she had come to love like family."Marcel is going to love it."
"Thank you for letting me borrow this, have I ever told you that you are the best best friend in the world?" the O'Connell woman asked happily, taking in the way she looked in the mirror.
"Oh, I don't know, maybe once or twice." The Levy woman said sarcastically, fixing a few stands of hair in her face. "So, is this like a date with you and Marcel? Because if it is, I need to find a... friend."
"No, some girl Rebekah invited me."Cami replied as she flattened her dress with her hands.
"Rebekah Mikaelson?" Dinah questioned, the woman had no idea how she knew so much information whenever a Mikaelson was brought up, but she did, and it was confusing her.
Little did she know that Marcel had been training her for days about the Mikaelsons, more importantly how to distract them.
"Yeah, she's like goddess level beautiful and kind of intimidating but she told me to come." Cami turned to face her best friend with a sigh. "I'm kind of mad Marcel didn't invite me himself, he's been chasing after me for weeks."
"Men are idiots, that's why he didn't invite you." Dinah rolled her eyes as she hooked arms with her best friend, both of them smiling into the mirror. "This night is the start of something new Cami O'Connell, I can feel it."
... and it would be.
A CHILL RAN THROUGH DINAH'S SPINE AS HER AND CAMI approached Marcel's house. The woman prided herself on having amazing intuition and while her mind was pushing for her to have an amazing night, her body was telling her it wouldn't be. It's like it was confused on what was reality, and what was fiction.
She didn't like that feeling.
"This is probably the fanciest party i've ever been to." Cami said as her and Dinah started to walk into the entrance, their arms still linked to each other.
The party was all decked out with acrobatic performers, people in costume, champagne, and colored lighting. It seemed like it came straight out of a movie, and while the Levy woman appeared to have lived an expensive life, she was far from that. Middle class was nothing compared to what was happening here.
"Yeah, Marcel tends to go all out, I think this is him at his worst." Dinah joked, realizing how uncomfortable her best friend seemed in a sea of attractive and wealthy people. "You look amazing, don't worry about anything."
"That's easy for you to say I mean, look at you." the O'Connell replied with a laugh, obviously nervous to be there, but also comfortable with her closest friend.
"Well, seems like you have already caught somebody's attention." Dinah pointed towards who she now knew as Klaus and Rebekah Mikaelson, thanks to Marcel's guidance, although she didn't know he's the one who told her that.
"Him? There's no way, he's so..."
"Rich? Attractive? Extremely but, he is looking at you like you are the last person on Earth so I think it's safe to say he's smitten." the Levy woman said confidently, a satisfied grin on her face. "I know my shit, even when I don't really know."
"Sure you do." Cami replied sarcastically as she laughed at the comment, shaking her head.
"Be cool, barbie heading our way." Dinah commented as she seen Rebekah approaching.
"Oh darling, you look lovely tonight."the Mikaelson woman spoke to Cami as she came over.
"This party is ridiculous, I didn't think it would be this crazy."Cami said to the woman, holding a hand on her chest.
Dinah turned her attention to the balcony over the party where Marcel was watching, she quickly nodded her head toward him and turned back to the two blonde women having a rather formal conversation.
"This is Dinah Levy, my best friend."Cami introduced, a smile on her face.
"You own the popular little bar that Cami works at, correct?" Rebekah wondered out loud as she extended her hand to shake Dinah's.
"Yes, and you are Rebekah Mikaelson. It is a pleasure to finally meet you. "The Levy woman shook her hand. "That dress is amazing, by the way, I could never pull it off."
"I already like you." the Mikaelson woman said replied to that with a smile as her brother approached.
Not the brother that Dinah wanted to see though.
"Is this the infamous on again, off again?" Cami questioned curiously, she really hoped he wasn't, because she was extremely attracted to the man, and it seemed his feelings were reciprocated.
"He's the brother, actually, and my sister is right, you both look stunning." Klaus said to the women in front of him, carefully taking the O'Connell woman's hand before placing a kiss on it.
"Well, you clean up pretty well yourself." Cami replied to him, Dinah immediately knowing she was trying to flirt, she knew Camille better than she knew the back of her own hand.
"Well, don't be fooled, love. I'm the devil in disguise." Klaus joked, but, from what Marcel had told Dinah, that was completely true.
The one upside of bringing Cami was that she could distract Klaus while she worked on Rebekah, the two best friends on a mission without even knowing it.
"You two chit chat, it looks like Dinah and I need booze."Rebekah commented as she dragged the Levy woman away with her in the other direction.
The two walked up to the bar together and stood in front of the counter.
"Scotch please." Rebekah told the bartender before looking over to the brunette. "What do you want, love? A martini?"
"Whiskey sour please." Dinah smiled at the bartender and turned her attention back to the Mikaelson woman. "Where is your other brother?"
"How did you know Elijah is my brother?" the blonde woman questioned, trying to avoid the question at hand.
"Your last name is Mikaelson, his last name was Mikaelson, and i'm a smart woman, it wasn't hard to guess." Dinah tapped her nails on the countertop. "So, he didn't feel like coming?"
"Elijah is...taking care of some family business, he'll be back soon enough. He talked about meeting you before, on the phone."Rebekah said as their drinks were handed to them. "A lot."
"Ah, nice to see I made an impression."Dinah smiled lightly. "All good things, I hope."
"He said that you were smart and sophisticated, he likes smart women." the Mikaelson woman looked down at her drink with a frown. "...but if you have a choice, do not get involved in his life."
"What are you? Apart of the mafia or something?" The Levy woman laughed, it wasn't like she would die for dating some random rich guy.
"No, we are much worse than any mafia." Rebekah let out a large sigh."Much much worse."
"Are you trying to be cute inviting Cami here?" Marcel asked, interrupting the conversation as he approached the two women.
"Marcel I—"
"Not you Dinah, I meant Rebekah." he glared at the Mikaelson woman. "She's messing with me."
"I'm sure Rebekah wouldn't do that." The Levy woman defended as she shook her head, she had taken quite the liking to Rebekah in the short few minutes they had been talking, and didn't think she'd hurt a fly.
"I hope that we can discuss this elsewhere, Marcel. Please keep this woman out of it, she shouldn't be in our world, she doesn't deserve it." Rebekah insisted.
"What world do you keep talking about!?" Dinah questioned, her patience waring thin as people continued to talk about her like she wasn't there.
"That's why she's going to forget all about it." Marcel looked into the Levy woman's eyes angrily. "You came to the party, met Rebekah, the two of you got drunk, and you went home early because you weren't feeling too well, now go."
"I went home early." Dinah repeated and snapped out of her trance. "I'm not feeling too good Rebekah, I think I have to go home, like now."
The Levy woman clenched onto her stomach, feeling absolutely terrible.
"That's alright, darling."Rebekah replied with a slight frown. "I'll see you soon enough, maybe I can stop by your bar."
"Free drinks if you do."Dinah said with a smile. "I'm sorry, I have to go."
The Levy woman quickly ran out of the party and as soon as she did, she didn't feel sick anymore but, she still left because her mind kept telling her to. As her heels clicked along the pavement, she was blissfully unaware of just how much darkness surrounded her new "friends."
How much darkness would begin to surround her.
