*the day of the appointment*

SOPHIE POV

I was bored, insanely bored. no phone no books no going out no tv. I was driving myself crazy. I would stay up it just hurt and burnt too much.

I had to get my stitches out today and see Miles as well. It was going to be an exhausting day. I was also worried about what he was going to say. Dad said I was going to get the stitches out today so I wasn't worried about that.

"Good morning soph."

"Morning dad."

"Couldn't sleep?"

"I'm exhausted."

"Hopefully we can get you something for the burning."

"I want it to stop and i'm bored, I want to go to school, read, watch tv."

"I know you do. Let's have breakfast then go?"

"I'm scared."

"Which one?"

"Miles. Stitches don't scare that much."

"Well he's just going to give a yes or no."

"It just makes me anxious."

"I know it does but it's all going to be okay alright? I'm right here. What's the worst that can happen?"

"He'll say that I can't go to school."

"For?"

"Maybe another fifteen days."

"It'll be okay then?"

"Yeah, I feel kinda better."

"I do the same. Imagine the worst-case scenario so that you familiarise yourself with it. I'll leave you alone now come out when you're ready."

"Who first?"

"Miles."

I nodded. He closed the door and I got ready not doing anything just a hoodie and a sweatpants, it was getting colder day by day. I hated winters.

I went to the table, dad was eating an apple.

"I don't want to eat, i think i'll throw up."

"Have an apple then don't go empty stomach." He threw one at me. I sat with him and ate.

"Dad would mom like this?"

"Like what?"

"The house."

"I mean, yeah. The claim wasn't even half of what I had paid. I had to take out a loan for this and she would understand."

"Why didn't you tell me?"

"You're young love you don't need to worry about this shit plus it wasn't of much. I only have one installment to go."

"oh."

"Also you have therapy from tomorrow."

"Is he good?"

"I mean yeah, he's the best."

"Okay."

"Tell me he's not an old man."

"Oh no, he's a bit younger than me."

"Good then."

He drove to the hospital and before I knew we were sitting in the waiting room of Miles' office.

"Dad, I'm scared."

"You'll be okay. The hardest part was the recovery and you're done with that. Just a few minutes more and you'll be done. It'll all be okay I promise."

My knee was bouncing so I nodded. I felt like throwing up.

"Sophie Walker please." Miles.

"Right here."

"Soph lovie we need to go in now." Dad held out his hand. I took it walked in.

My eyes were open I just needed his support.

"Hello how are we today?" Miles asked as we entered. I sat in the chair.

"Scared, anxious, terrified. All the synonyms." He laughed.

"Glad you have humour. But today's nothing to be honest. I'm just gonna look in your eyes I'm gonna shine the bright light I'm gonna yes and you're done."

"Are you definitely gonna say yes?"

"In your case, yeah. The redness around the site is decreasing and if you didn't follow my instructions it wouldn't have."

"Oh thank you. Can I be not scared now?"

"Of course. Let's begin."

"How's the pain? Ashton you first."

"It becomes unbearable sometimes, like she was screaming in pain somedays, but it had reduced. It's more boredom now instead of pain."

"The recovery is boring. You go now Sophie."

"Same. It feels like an itching and burning sensation in the eye at the same time."

"I can give you drops for that don't worry. Anything else? I'll begin with the checkup part now."

"No no." We both said at the same time. I was so ready to get this over with.

He took a torch on which non-bright was written and turned it on looking in my eyes.

"I can see only recovery. There is a bit of irritation due to the stitches but it'll dissolve on its own, no need to worry."

"Now the bright one." He did the same thing. It was way too bright. It hurt my eyes to look at it.

"That was a bit sensitive."

"It's supposed to be don't worry."

"Okay Sophie. You're done. You can go to school but you have to take it easy. No study sessions longer than half an hour. I know a class at school is like an hour so rest your eyes once you get back okay? And you may get headaches in the beginning but it's normal. Rest your eyes and it'll be okay. Do not strain them okay? They're recovering. Wear glasses when you go outside especially when it's windy."

He started writing on the prescription pad then.

"She can go to school from tomorrow?"

"I don't see a problem why not. Just if you get a headache close your eyes, step out, put your head down. But do not say only a few minutes. Alright?"

"Okay."

"I've written a note for excuses if you ever need it. It's valid for a month and the headaches should stop by then. If they don't and you need more come to me and the prescription for the drops. Good luck Sophie I'll see you at your next appointment."

"Thank you"

"See you miles, thank you so much."

"Of course. Ashton."

We walked out and I could scream in happiness it was finally over. Dad was happy too I could see it on his face. Finally I had done something to make him happy.
