SOPHIE POV

"DAD I CAN'T SEE."

I heard Dad running into my room and then he sat me on my bed.

"What do you mean by you can't see?" He was panicking. I was too.

"Everything is black."

"I'm gonna bring my penlight okay? You're gonna be fine i'm right here."

"I'm scared."

"I know it's scary, but i'm right here."

I heard his footsteps go out of the room and come back in a minute.

"I'm back."

I nodded. He wasn't doing anything.

"Dad what are you doing?'"

"You didn't see anything? I was shining the light in your eyes."

"I didn't." Tears started to fall. He put my hands in his.

"What's happening, dad? I'm scared."

"I have no idea love, but whatever it is, we're going to figure it out and you'll be alright."

"Is this permanent?"

"Let's not think ahead yeah?"

"What time is it?"

"6 am."

"Are we going to have to go to the hospital?"

"Yeah."

"But you ran here yesterday."

"Duke drove the car here, don't worry about that."

"Do we have to go now?"

"Yeah, I'm gonna call my Optometrist friend on the way. It'll be okay."

He helped me to the car and started driving. I was beyond scared of what would happen.

"Hey Miles, I didn't wake you. Did I?"

"Oh no I was just heading for a run, It's too early for you to call though, is everything alright?"

"My daughter, Sophie can't see. I tried shining the penlight even."

"Get her in. I'll get to the hospital now."

"I'll see you there."

Then, the car stopped.

"Should we go in?" He asked.

"I'm scared."

"Listen to me, if it is anything bad i'm right here we'll figure it out together and Miles is one of the best there is."

I nodded and I heard the car door opening and then him holding my hands.

"I'm holding your hands, can you get out?"

I stepped out and we walked like that to the entrance cause I could then smell the hospital smell.

"Get me a wheelchair now please." He said and sat me in a wheelchair.

"It'll be easier this way."

"Where are we going?"

"To the eye wing."

"There's an eye wing?"

"There's a wing for everything, dental, eye."

"Going to the elevator." He said.

"Hey Dr. Walker. You're still here?"A woman said.

"Went back home actually, then came back cause of a patient."

"Alright." The elevator bell dinged and we stepped out.

"Did you just not tell her?"

"I do not remember her name, so yes." I laughed and he took me to a room.

"Hello, Ashton." I heard a man say.

"Hello, Miles."

"And hello Sophie. It's good to meet you. I know that you're scared but I'm gonna check over once and we'll know what to do okay?" I nodded.

"Ashton, just leave the wheelchair out and I'll take her to the chair."

"I need Dad please."

"That's alright, I'll leave it outside and you get her to the chair." I got up from wheelchair and dad took me to a chair.

"You're sitting on the chair now."

"What are you doing?"

"I'm standing."

"What is the color of the walls?"

"It's light grey."

"I'm scared dad."

"He's going to figure it out and you'll be fine, don't worry."

"Alright, i'm back. Let's get  it to shall we?"

"Can you say stuff as you do it?"

"Of course, but if it starts being overwhelming at any point just say so and I'll stop."

I nodded.

"I'm first going to shine the light okay?"

"Okay, if looked into directly that light is blinding so you can't see."  He said after a while.

"I already told you that."

"I was just checking the extent."

"Now i'm bringing a machine ahead of you just keep your chin on a thing and open your eyes, I know you can't see but I need to check."

With my hands, and with a little help from dad, I was in the position he wanted me to be. After a while of him asking me to look here and theree, he was done.

"You can sit back now. I'll look at the results for a while and be back with what we need to do." I heard the door open and close.

"Dad what's the time?"

"It 7: 30 am."

"I'm tired."

"Me too."

"What do we do now?"

"We wait and we hope like hell this is not permanent."

"What if it is though?"

"Let's not think that."

We talked for a while then the door opened and he walked in.

"I have good news and bad news first The good one is this is not permanent and the bad one is that you'll need eye surgery."
