SOPHIE POV

"Sophie Walker?" I heard Miles say from a distance.

"We're here." Dad said.

"Come on back please."

I felt Dad stand up and I did as well. He helped me to the office and I felt the smell of instruments take over. Dad helped me on a chair.

I could tell Miles was right beside me.

"Hey Sophie did you get any sleep last night?"

"I slept for 12 hours, then stayed up for 3 hours then slept for maybe an hour more again."

"You're going through the drugs. How's the pain?"

"Bad. Really bad."

"Ashton did she wake up because of pain?"

"Yeah, she fell asleep in the car, so she woke up around 5 or 6 in the morning and that's when I gave her the medicine."

"Alright, I know you're both scared so let's get the bandages off."

"Moment of truth." I joked trying to lighten the mood and it worked. They both laughed.

"You're right. Now Sophie when I remove the bandages I need you to open your eyes. Water is going to come then I'll clean it you open them again and I'll shine the light in your eyes."

"Is it going to hurt to open them?"

"I'm not going to lie, it's going to hurt, so just open them for as long as you can, then I'll give you a short break."

I nodded and he started removing the tape. I could feel the air blowing on my face. Now the tape was fully off, he took off the cotton.

"Alright Sophie, open those eyes for me."

I opened them and I caught a small glimpse of him before I closed them due to the water which he quickly cleaned.

"Okay let's try again, and try to keep them for a bit longer yeah?"

I opened again. Now I saw the whole room.

"So was the surgery successful?" Miles asked as I closed them again.

"Very much. I can see."

"How many fingers?" He asked as he held up three fingers.

"Three."

Dad sighed in relief.

"Thank you Miles so much."

"You don't have to Ashton."

"Let's do the light now okay? It's really dim so don't worry about the brightness."

I opened and he turned on the light shining it into my eyes. It was really bright.

"I'm done you can close now."

I did as he said.

"The light was really bright."

"Your eyes are kinda sensitive right now no big deal."

"So what's the aftercare like?"

"Kinda a complicated process. But first and foremost no strain on the eyes at all so that means no books, no digital devices at all. Second, don't wet your eyes for a month so no washing your face. Third, don't touch your eyes. They're going to get watery often so just take a tissue and wipe it out and don't ever use the same tissue for both eyes, if you're done with the eye throw it out. Take a new one for the other. Fourth, you're going to boil some cotton in really hot water and keep it on the eyes for fifteen minutes 3 times a day, 4 times if necessary, and different cotton each time and using the different for both of them. Sixth, remember to put your eye drops in and take your antibiotics. Seventh, get a pair of zero power glasses and wear them at all times to avoid dust and other stuff getting in your eye I repeat no strain on the eyes at all."

"Okay, when do we see you again?"

"Fifteen days, if you have any problems in between just call me. You have my number."

"I'm off school then?"

"Yes."

"Till when?"

"You're off for the next fifteen days but we'll see how it goes at the next appointment and I'll write you a note so don't worry about the absence."

"Okay."

"Any more questions?"

"Not yet." Dad said.

"If you have any later just remember i'm only a call away."

"Thank you Miles, i'm beyond grateful."

"No problem, here's the prescription and note. I'll see you in fifteen days."

We walked out. I just kept one eye open at a time and walked like that but he still didn't leave my hands. I heard him yawn.

"I need coffee."

"Did you get any sleep?"

"Barely."

We got to the car, slowly talking.

He helped me in even after I said no countless times. He started driving.

"Is the pain better than yesterday?"

"Comparatively yes, but it's still there."

We got home, he helped me inside and into his room. He cooked pancakes so we had that. After that, I fell asleep.

"Time for drops." He woke me up, sitting beside me.

I nodded.

"Alright open."

I opened my eyes and he slowly put them in both eyes.

"It hurts."

"It'll get better baby. I have to put the next one in twenty minutes."

He did the same thing a while later. He went to the kitchen to boil the cotton. I opened my eyes and immediately it was like they had been drowned.

"Dad water." I yelled.

"I'm washing my hands and coming, just wait a minute." I heard him come in and grab a tissue and he wiped my eyes using a different one for each.

"Better?"

I nodded. He went out again.

I started experimenting seeing how long I could keep my eyes open for.

"The cotton is boiled and a little cooled down. Do you want to do it now?"

I nodded. He did the process and it was really good and the heat relieved my eyes of the pain and itching.

"Keep the bowls on the side, I need a nap." He passed them to me and laid down.

Then, the bell rang.

"Ugh, I just laid down."

"Can I go?"

"No, you might get dizzy."  He stood up and went out. I heard the door open."

"Hello Ashton, you've kept quite a house right here." A female voice. It wasn't familiar and the voice was of someone old.

Who was at our house?
