Sophie pov

I woke up at 3 am as I wanted to drink water. I saw there was none left in my room so I went downstairs after I came up drinking water I could hear dad panting trying to catch his breath.

I went into his room. He was awake panting.

"Dad." I said and went by his side.

He gestured me that he needs water. I quickly got him one. I helped him drink it. After he was calm.

"Dad what happened?" I ask.

"Nothing Sophie, I had a nightmare it was really bad like I was drowning."  He said.

"Are you okay?" I ask.

"I am fine, it was just a dream." He says.

He never had nightmares. That was a never thing this was the first time.

"Are you still feeling sick?" I ask.

"Nah I am feeling fine now." He says.

"Go sleep now." He says.

"Alright, night".I say and get off the bed.

"Night soph". He says and lays down and I see him immediately go to sleep.

He was probably just tired. I go to my room. And lay on the bed. I start to think about the events of this day I got suspended, I punched someone. And while thinking that, I fell asleep.

Ashton pov
I didn't fall asleep. That nightmare was bad really bad like I was drowning I panicked. Suddenly, I couldn't breathe I sat up and drank some more water. I was feeling well now I just decided to give up sleep for the night. I went downstairs, picked my laptop up, and started working. I was typing keys as slowly as I could cause if I did that fast it would make a lot of sounds and Sophie would wake up which I didn't want to happen.  I kept completing it all. Which was a lot. Things didn't happen much today but in previous days. Today was a lot Sophie getting suspended, then a new school on the first day, Neil Thing, Emily getting angry. It was a lot.

Flashback to when Ashton met Emily that morning.

"You are finally here." Emily said as I entered. Neil was standing right there with her. 

"What happened?" I ask.

"Lockwood messed up with all the records of patients which is an administrative thing".She says.

"Don't you have records of it saved somewhere?" I ask knowing that the hospital saved all the records if something like this happened.

"Yeah, I have." She says.

"So use that." I say.

"You know that it is a waste of time." She says

"Ashton and Emily stop fighting." Dr. William says. He was our mentor from when we were interns.

"Emily, you can recover the data with some people I will send them, and Ashton and Lockwood you both come with me." He says.

"Alright." Emily says.

Neil and I  Follow him to his office. 

"Sit down." He says as we both enter his office.

Yeah so Lockwood tell me what happened? He asks

Neil remains quiet. I nudge his hand under the table.

"Sir, I didnt do anything. I wasn't even here when the chaos of it all started." Neil says.

"But your shift started before that." He says.

"It did. I was late today as it was my sister's first day of school." Neil says.

"Ashton now you know what happened its your decision. As he is your resident and it's your department." Dr. William says.

"Sir may I come in?" Emily asks.

"Sure. Come on in." He says.

"Sir, the data is recovered. We couldn't get most of it due to the damage." Emily says.

"Alright. You can go." He says and Emily goes out.

"Ashton?" Dr. William said, I was lost in deep thought. 

"You're fired effective immediately." I said. 

I had a hunch that he didn't do this. But you can't go on hunches.

"Dr. Walker, you know I can't do this. I have always been loyal. Please don't do this." He says a few tears forming in his eyes.

I bite my lip to hold my tears back, and keep a serious face on. 

"I'm sorry." He said and walked out the room. I didn't say anything, I didn't trust my voice. 

"I know it was hard firing him, but he broke the rules." He said. 

"Yeah, I would like to get back to my patients and find someone to cover for him." I say and go out of the room.

I go to the resident locker room and see Neil there crying. I walked over to him. 

"Neil listen to me, I'll make it right just give me some time. I know you didn't do this." I said. 

He wipes his tears.

"How can I give you time? You didn't suspend me you fired me after all that has happened and you know it all. Dr. Walker I thought I had someone older than me looking after me. Someone to set me on the right path to help me." He says.

A few tears trickle down on my face.

"Neil, if I don't figure this out today anytime you need a recommendation call me I will give it to you." I say.

"No sir,  thank you I am moving today with my sister." He says and goes out with all his stuff.

I kick the locker in frustration, then just sit there composing myself I can't deal with patients this way when I'm composed enough I go out. I go on with the day. Then get a call from Sophie's school and go there.

Flashback end

Crazy day. I say as get my head back. It was already 5. So I decided to go out for a run. I wasn't going to sleep now anyways so to pass my time.

I put my shoes on, grab my phone and headphones, and house keys. I go out and lock the house. I spend an hour just peacefully listening to some music and running. I come back home at around 6 am. I unlock the house.

Sophie was still not up. I decided not to wake her up just yet. Yesterday was a long day. Suddenly my phone buzzed with a text:

Neil: Hey, Dr. Walker sorry, and thanks for yesterday I was really rude but you still got me my job back.

Ashton: It's all good. Also, I won't be coming in today. So, you are in charge.

Neil: Alright.

I put Neil in charge cause he was the most responsible on the team and I knew him the longest.

I decided to just pass my time cause I had nothing to do till Sophie woke up. I turned on the tv and begin turning through channels. Which were filled with controversial things which I was not into at all. 

I turned it off. it was 6 30 am now. then, I picked my phone up and called mom just to check up on her. 

A: Hey mom, how are you? 

E: I am good, how are you?

A: I'm alright. Why are you up so early though? You sound like you have been up for hours. 

E: Well, I couldn't sleep

A: Get some rest, mom this isn't good.

E: I will, don't worry about me.

A: Alright, mom take care bye

E: bye. 

End of call.

I plopped down on the couch with my phone in hand. I decided to scroll through YouTube.

I opened it and it was filled with videos about surgery and all. I closed it it was no workday so no work.

I decided to cook breakfast. Soon, Sophie was up. We had breakfast together and after showering we both watched movies the whole day after turning our phones off.

I turned it off too cause I had someone covering for me, and I haven't had a day to myself in a long time.
