Chapter 7

Sieving through my playlist on my phone, I walk down the path on campus with a small hum. As I decide which song to play first, I click my tongue and purse my lips. Do I go with something sad? Or something upbeat? Or shall I just abandon music all together and just do it without music blaring in my ears? Textbooks, cookbooks and a notepad rest in my arms as I head toward the campus library. A smile playing on my lips as I nod and wave toward other college students who walk past me, sending me a small smile in return. The heels of my shoes clicking gently against the pavement of the path as I walk across campus.

With the evening free to do whatever I want, the twins being babysat by their Uncle Toya for a play date with his son, Hiro, I was able to head toward the library for some quiet studying and catching up on homework and missed content. I had a lot of content to catch up on. So much that it kept me awake at night, tossing and turning uncomfortably. Sometimes even dreading the day about to come, worrying about the work that I need to do and the work that'll be set.

Procrastination is a bitch...

I needed to feel relaxed! I needed to get to a point where I was comfortable with having a little break and just unwind. Sure, I had time to study when I was babysitting the twins but every five minutes I'm putting out fires! I'm making sure Kōri and Ryoku aren't fighting, making sure that they don't hurt themselves. I also have to cook for them too. I'm also making sure that Shoto doesn't set fire to anything while Momo is out! He's three years older than me and he needs babysitting too!

So this evening was dedicated to try and help me get on top of things before I burn myself out and decide to set my textbooks and notes on fire.

With a small breath, I head up the stairs toward the library before awkwardly pushing the door open. My arms full of books as I try to kick the door open, sending a nervously embarrassed smile toward onlookers as I try to squirm into the library with a small strained giggle. Trying not to make myself more of a fool than I already was.

Thankfully, a kind soul opens the door for me, sending me a small reassuring smile as I send him a quick thank you before teetering through the library toward the table where Kana, Kurva, Akari and Hanako are sitting peacefully with their own textbooks open for their hero exams in a couple of weeks. Akari pouting to herself as she scribbles violently on her paper before huffing and throwing the defaced piece of paper across the room into the bin with a small curse word under her breath.

However, her whole mood changes as I wobble toward the table with a giggle. The violet haired girl sending me a bright smile as she moves the papers and the books to the side to allow me some space, ignoring Kana's sound of defiance as her books are cramped together and not spaced apart how she likes it.

Sending Akari a thankful gaze, I set my books down with a considerable bang on the table making Kurva squeal with a giggle before sticking her tongue toward me as I rub the back of my neck nervously. Humming gently, I take a seat onto the plush seating of the library and clear my throat as I open up my textbook onto improving carbon footprints on certain foods such as meat and dairy products. Opening up my cloud cover spiralled notebook, I tick a strand of hair behind my ear before grabbing a pen from my pencil case and beginning to write notes.

"No babysitting tonight?" Akari asks tilting her head as she slams her math book shut and turns her whole attention toward me with a big smile, "I thought you work after class everyday? Monday to Friday?"

"Yeah, I do but their uncle offered to babysit tonight while his wife is out with her friends for dinner," I explain, sketching a picture of a cow face on my notepad next to the notes on cow rearing and the most economic way to rear them without causing harm and the rules certain farmers should follow, "Which is a godsend for me, I really needed to catch up on my work. I've been behind for a few weeks,"

"Getting overwhelmed, golden girl?" Kana teases, grinning toward me as I look toward her before frowning as her demeanour changes from playful to sour before spitting, "Had enough of meeting all those heroes?"

"What's her problem?" I ask looking toward Hanako who clears her throat nervously and shuffles her papers before sighing, "What's going on?"

"There's a... news story all over the tabloids about... Dynamight... and a girl," Hanako explains nervously, ignoring the daggers Kana shoots her way. She gets it up on her phone making my back go numb as she shows me the new story, a picture of me and Dynamight splattered across the news page making my breath catch in my throat and my eyes widen, "The girl being you..."

Nervously, I grab the phone from Hanako and gulp. My eyes staring at the picture of the blonde number two hero standing beside me while helping me with my grocery bags. This was like... two weeks ago! Man... people will eat up anything. They don't even know who I am! They decide that Dynamight's helping out someone and suddenly he's... Oh my god!

~

Dynamight Gone Soft?!

The whole of Japan is in shock after witnessing this shocking event taking place two weeks ago! On Saturday, during his morning patrol with Number One Hero: Deku, Explosive Hero: Dynamight was pictured in the parking lot of a local grocery store in Musutafu helping a civilian. Aiding a civilian with Number One Hero: Deku in taking the civilians grocery bags back to her home. Something that he has never done in all his hero career!

Our sources say that Japan's feistiest hero was more than happy to aid the girl in her job of taking her groceries back to her home. He didn't kick up a fuss nor did he cuss the girl out and tell her to 'screw off'!

This is completely out of character for the much loved hero! What's going on?!

One of our interviewers managed to corner Deku on one of his solo patrols to ask him about this mysterious girl seen with Dynamight. After nervously spluttering and trying to derail our question, the most favourite hero finally provided us with an answer that only made us want more and more and more information!

"I don't really know the relationship between them both, if I'm being completely honest. All I know is that Kacchan helped her without a second thought. It's the first time I've actually seen him willingly help a civilian! I'm so proud of him!"

Adorable words from an adorable hero. However, it's not enough! Questions still remained unanswered! Who is this mysterious girl? Who's this girl that has Japan's feistiest hero wrapped around her finger? Will we see more of her?

Unfortunately, when encountering Dynamight to get his word in on this girl on the scene. He avoided each and every interviewer trying to question him and even blasted away before we could talk to him! He also decided to cuss one of our cameramen out after asking him!

But we will find answers!

Has Japan's Number Two Hero finally lost his edge?! Is there someone that doesn't find him intimidating?! Has he finally settled down with a lover?! Is there a secret girl that he's hiding from the media?!

~

After finishing the short article, I slowly hand the phone back to Hanako and biting my lip nervously. Why did the media think I was his girlfriend? We weren't even that close. We didn't even make physical contact other than him taking the grocery bags from my hands! There's nothing to admit. We don't even know each other that well, we spoke for who two seconds and then spent the rest of the trip talking to someone else.

God! Dynamight's gonna be pissed... Why did Deku say anything?! He could have just said no comment or even said that there's nothing going on! Instead, he's put me and Dynamight in a situation that we're both going to be uncomfortable in!

Jeez... the media will stretch the truth about everything!

Looking toward Kana who's practically oozing anger in her chair, I send her a weak smile before clearing my throat. Trying not to get intimidated by her, I take a deep breath and think about what to say to her. Hoping that she doesn't rip my head off for meeting her idol first and, against my own volition, somehow developing a relationship with him that I don't even know about.

"Just to be clear, there is nothing going on between us," I explain, wincing as Kana narrows her eyes toward me, her hand tightening around her pen making it snap and ink flooding all over her notebook page, "I wouldn't trust anything on the internet, Kana, you know they lie most of the time. The tabloids just want attention so they stretch the truth! You know I wou -"

"I can't believe you, after everything that I've done for your weak ass," She hisses through gritted teeth, slamming her ink stained fist against the table making Kurva and Akari jump nervously, "You know how much I love him! You know how much I idolise him and you... you bitch, somehow have him wrapped around your finger,"

"There's nothing going on between us!" I plead, trying to defend myself, my throat going dry as she slams her hands against the table for a second time, her eyes full of fire, "Kana! There's nothing going -"

"He helped you! He never helps anyone! How is it that so suddenly he helps you, of all people!" She growls, digging her nails into the ridges of the table, gritting her teeth in anger as she glares, "So? What did you do to him huh? You use your quirk like the bitch you are?"

"Kana, what the hell are you talking about?" I ask, trying to keep myself as calm as possible, jamming my hands underneath my thighs to try and stop the shaking, my brain going into overdrive, "Kana, you're overreacting, there is nothing going on between us,"

"Oh shut up, you're lying through your teeth," She spits, shaking her head as she bites her lip and clears her throat, her teeth gritting so hard that I'm surprised they're not breaking, "So how long have you two been together? Hm? Are you really babysitting Shoto's twins? Hm? Or are you whoring yourself out?"

"Kana! Don't say that!" Akari defends, staring toward the angry blonde with her eyes full of worry before she looks toward me, "She didn't mean that, I'm sure she's just -"

"Oh no, I meant it, I meant all of it," Kana growls, glaring toward Akari making the girl squeak nervously and look down into her lap, "So? You going to answer my questions? Hm?"

"You know what?" I begin, pushing myself to my feet and grabbing my books, stacking them onto one another, "I'm leaving, and I'm not talking to you until you can talk to me like an actual adult instead of a five year old child that's having it's toy taken away. Grow the fuck up Kana, Dynamight can date whoever the fuck he wants, he doesn't need you to tell him what to do you bitch,"

"Excuse me?!" Kana recoils, staring at me with wide eyes and her mouth agape as I grab my phone and place it into my pocket, "Grow up?! I'm not the one that's lying!"

"Kana? Do you have anything to prove that Dynamight and I are dating? No! You fucking don't! It's from a fucking tabloid that stretch the truth to get more readers!" I growl, my heartbeat picking up and my hands shaking underneath the pile of books, "You have no facts! You have nothing! So, fuck you! Can't believe you..."

"I don't need facts when I have this shit right here! There's tons of tabloids writing about you two!" Kana argues pointing toward Hanako's phone, "What other evidence is there?!"

"Whatever, Kana," I hum, shaking my head and turning on my heels, ignoring the sounds of protest from Akari before smirking to myself to prod at Kana a bit, "I'm off to have fun with a certain blonde~ Don't wait up~"

"Get the fuck out of my face," Kana growls, "What hero would wanna date you anyway? You're a plain Jane and you're boring as fuck. Dynamight should have kicked you to the curb, you heartless bit -"

"Kana!" Akari scolds, shrieking as Kana throws her broken pen toward her as I walk off, "Ow!"

"Is there a problem ladies?" Our librarian, Mr. Kamai, asks looking toward us. His eyes looking over his glasses as he looks toward my violated self, "If you're going to cause this much commotion, please leave,"

While Kana begins an argument with our librarian, I head out of the library and shake my head. Cursing under my breath, I push past other students and stalk back toward my apartment, deciding that maybe studying there would be better. I can't believe her though! The sheer audacity of her! Who the hell does she think she is? Is she seriously for real? What a fucking bitch!

Well, that's the last time I hang around her. She doesn't deserve my time if she's going to be a bitch... Maybe I could get Dynamight to kick her off the hero course?....

No! (Y/n), don't be ridiculous!

Sighing gently, clearing my throat to try and diminish my anxious thoughts, I walk into my apartment building and take the stairs instead of the lift. As I hurry up the stairs, sending a smile toward some of the tenants as I walk past, I take a deep breath. My chest tightening slightly with every step I take, worrying and overthinking. My mind running over the worst possible outcomes of Kana dealing with this shit right now... my heart in my throat, the worse that they become.

What if Kana spreads rumours? What if she decides to talk shit about me to Dynamight? What if she tries to attack me? What if she hires someone to attack me? God... I need to stop making myself even more anxious...

Shaking my head, I open up the apartment front door and send a small weak smile toward my roommate as I walk in. Frowning gently, Sakino turns off the tv and watches as I drop my books onto the coffee table and slump into the couch. A sigh leaving my lips as I lean into the arm of the couch.

"Why the long face?" Sakino asks gently, leaning across the couch and looking toward me, discarding her revision notes to do later or never while I head to the kitchen, "I thought you were catching up on your study notes?"

"Yeah, had a change of plans," I hum, clearing the bile in my throat and spitting it into the sink before grabbing myself a drink of water to try and clear my throat, "Kana's a bitch and I refuse to waste my time with shit like that,"

"Honey, I could have told you that," Sakino hums, watching as I slump into the couch again and grab my fluffy blanket from the side to swaddle myself into it, "What happened?"

"There's a tabloid on Dynamight and I being together when it's not true.... Kana being Kana, she took it way too seriously and just cussed me out," I reply, sipping at my water and staring at the blank tv screen, tracing the tip of my finger over the rim, "So I just left, I can't be bothered to deal with her shit,"

"Hey, you are so much better than Kana, you don't need her," Sakino reassures me, grabbing her phone with a small hum, "Anyway, you wanna get her back? I have the perfect plan,"

"I'm listening," I hum, looking toward Sakino who clears her throat and slides her phone toward me to show the college's student board, "What's this?"

"Dynamight is working at the college for the next few months, he's training the extended hero course," She explains with a smirk, biting back an evil laugh as her antennae glow a fiendish dark green to express her mischievous plan, "How about you get him to kick her off the course?"

"That is tempting..." I hum with a giggle, tucking a strand of hair behind my ear, "But... cussing someone out isn't a good reason to kick someone off. Dynamight cusses everyone out and he's the best hero there is..."

"Alright... well, we'll figure something out to get her back,"...

"Yeah, I'm sure we'll think of something, I'm not letting her get away with it,"...
