Chapter 33

Smiling gently to myself, I lean against the doorway of the back door watching the twins run around the garden with bright smiles on their lips. Giggles echo around the air as Ryoku and Kōri play superheroes with one another in their hero costumes that Shoto and Momo had bought them the other week. Ryoku clad in his Dynamight costume, the little boy making explosion noises with his mouth as he lets a little fire out of his hand (not enough to hurt his brother). Kōri was clad in his Deku outfit, the boy giggling as he kicks and punches at the air as they battle their grandfather (Endeavor) who's being the villain in their little game.

With today being a rather warm day, I decided to let the twins burn off their energy outside while I got the barbecue working to make dinner for the twins and their parents. Then, unexpectedly, Enji Todoroki (Shoto's father) and Rei Todoroki (Shoto's mother) appeared at the front door wanting to spend time with their grandchildren and I couldn't exactly turn them away. So I let them in. Which brings me to the situation I'm in at the moment:

Enji playing with his grandsons, letting the boys chase him around the garden before jumping on his back to pin him down to the ground. Both of the twins jumping onto his chest with a bright giggle before snuggling into his warm chest and 'defeating' the villain that Endeavor was playing. Then, sitting on the porch with a pair of knitting needles and a ball of yarn, is Rei. The grandmother smiling to herself as she makes a scarf for the twins in their favourite hero patterns. Ryoku's scarf black, green and orange. Kōri's scarf white, green and red.

They're all so cute together! It's unbelievable.

Smiling gently to myself, I manage to turn on the barbecue and set a couple of burgers and sausages onto the grill as well as some chicken steaks. The therapeutic smell of charcoal wafting through the air as I take a deep breath and stand at the grill to make sure they cook properly. The twins then giggle and run toward me, wrapping their arms around each of my legs making me laugh and ruffle their hair. The smile on their lips mischievous as they look up at me with a sparkle in their eyes.

"What are you two up to, huh?" Rei coos softly, giggling toward the twins who look toward her innocently before hiding their faces in my legs, "Would you like me to make a salad, (Y/n)? Or some potatoes? I don't mind helping out,"

"Oh that's fine, Mrs Todoroki," I tell her softly, kneeling down to the boys height and checking over them quickly to make sure they're quirks haven't been overused before kissing their foreheads and smiling, "We've already made that, I got the boys to help me do it when we got back from school,"

"Yeah! I used a sharp knife!" Ryoku squeals excitedly, turning toward his grandmother who gasps out in happiness and claps her hands for him. The little five year old grinning from ear to ear, "I cut cucumber all by myself! (Y/n)'s the best teacher ever!"

"What did you do, Kōri?" Rei asks softly, the gorgeous white haired woman tucking a strand of hair behind her ear as she watches her grandsons, "Did you cut vegetables?"

"No, I boiled some potatoes," Kōri says with a small smile, giggling as Enji picks him up from behind and throws him up into the air. The little boy squeaking with laughter as Enji blows a raspberry onto his stomach, "Grandpa! That tickles! That tickles!"

"Is Hiro coming?" Ryoku asks looking toward Rei who smiles softly and sets her knitting equipment down, "Is he, grandma?"

"Not today, poppet," Rei hums, pulling Ryoku into her lap and kissing his cheek as he pouts to himself and crosses his arms over his chest with a whine, "He's got exams coming up so he has to focus on them, Auntie is helping him since Uncle Toya isn't very smart,"

While Ryoku giggles with his grandmother and Kōri is playing with his grandfather, I turn back toward the grill to check on the meat. Once I'm happy that one side has been cooking, I grab the pair of tongs from the side and immediately begin to flip them over onto their uncooked side. The sounds of the meat sizzling on the grill plays like music to my ears as I stand there with my hand on my hip and a pair of tongs in my other hand. It's almost homely to be in this sort of atmosphere. Having a barbecue on a hot summers day with family over... well, they're not my family per say but they treat me like I am practically family to them.

It's been a while since I've actually had a family barbecue.

With my brothers and I so busy with work and exams and college and stuff, we've never found the time to actually have a family day. Plus, my father is such a workaholic that he hardly ever finds time to actually spend with the family. I mean, I remember one year where I didn't see him for my birthday because he was working with All Might! He's always working. That family dinner last week was probably the first one I've had with the whole family in months! Then again, it probably only happened because Katsuki was coming and everyone wanted to meet my boyfriend.

It's so nice to see how close Rei and Enji are with their grandchildren though. I never really had that connection with my grandparents. My mother's side were always very distant with my mom so I didn't see them as much as my fathers side. I was probably the closest with my grandmother on my fathers side before she passed away due to cancer. However, it was always a special occasion whenever I saw my grandparents... and my brothers and I would always get money or candy when we came over.

I miss it... if I'm being perfectly honest.

However, Rei and Enji treat me like I'm their daughter! It's so strange! I mean, I only met them two hours ago for the first time and they're already making me feel at home. Rei is the sweetest woman I've ever met. She's just so nice. She has that warmth about her that makes you feel safe despite how cold her quirk can be. She's so graceful, she's the embodiment of a swan. She's so beautiful that you can see how Shoto is so gorgeous as well (not that I'd tell Katsuki I think that because he's crucify me).

Enji, on the other hand, is quite nice. He's nice but he isn't too nice. He seems to be quite rigid and stuck on his ways. The twins adore him though and he seems like so much fun with the amount of times the twins have pinned him down like he isn't the ex number one hero. Despite how intimidating he is, he actually is very sweet too. He's helped me out with a couple of things: getting the barbecue out, making a dressing for the salad the twins made, keeping the twins occupied while I cook. I can see why he was the number one hero.

As I go to check on the meat again, the back gate opens to reveal Shoto and Momo making the twins squeal happily and rush to their parents. Both Momo and Shoto laugh and scoop their twins into their arms, Ryoku in Shoto's arms and Kōri in Momo's arms. The parents kiss their sons on their cheeks before setting them down to allow them to run back to their grandfather who is immediately pinned back to the floor when he's jumped on.

"I didn't realise you were coming over," Shoto says, kissing his mother on the cheek before sitting beside her and resting his head on her shoulder making the older woman smile, "I would have told (Y/n),"

"Oh it's fine, she had a little heart attack but I think she handled it quite well," Rei says making me blush bright red with embarrassment at the recollection of myself stammering and stuttering in the presence of Endeavor and his wife, "We wanted to pop over and see the twins anyway, your father's been missing them,"

"Well he does spend most of his time around Toya - nii's and Nee - chan's home," Shoto says teasingly toward his father who chuckles and walks toward them once the twins decide to terrorise Momo instead, "How is the little terrors?"

"Hiro's good, studying for exams since these grades will be submitted to high schools and U.A is obviously Hiro's goal," Enji explains to his son, smiling when Ryoku jumps into his lap and snuggles into his warmth, "Ayumi's alright, she's so much like your brother it's uncanny. She likes to talk back a lot which means Toya experiences what I had to deal with when he was younger,"

"And Saori's good too, she's been stuck to your brothers wife like glue," Rei hums with a soft giggle, "And little Mizumi has now begun to talk, her first word happened the other day and it was 'Hiro' which was so cute,"

"That's adorable," Momo coos, giggling as Kōri snuggles into her and yawns gently while I head toward the kitchen, "And how was your day, (Y/n)? You and Katsuki still good?"

"Yeah, everything's great," I tell her as I walk back out with a bowl of salad with dressing (made by the twins and Enji) as well as some garlic boiled potatoes accompanied with spring onions and bacon bits, "Katsuki's great. He met my parents the other day,"

"Oh I remember when I met Enji's parents," Rei says with a smile, looking toward Enji who rolls his eyes and smiles, "His mom was so intimidating and his dad was just as intimidating, I could see where he got his scowl from,"

"That was my stepdad, my biological dad died when I was young," Enji says looking toward Rei who smiles and kisses his cheek before licking her lips at the sight of food being laid out in front of her, "And your parents were just as bad,"

"At least Momo's parents were nice, her mom made me cookies," Shoto says as he watches me place down a plate full of burgers, another full of sausages and another full of chicken slices spiced with all sorts of flavours, "This looks delicious,"

Pride swells in my chest as I turn off the barbecue and take a deep breath. Once I'm sure that everything is laid out, I let them all tuck into their food. Momo helping the twins out with their plates first before she does her own, the woman making two hot dogs for Ryoku while Kōri gets chicken and a burger. Shoto immediately makes himself a burger while Enji grabs some hot dogs. Rei sticks with the chicken and boiled potatoes. Their eyes shimmering with happiness as they chow down on their food hungrily.

Foods always been the way to someone's heart.

Tonight, Katsuki and I have another evening with the Bakusquad. It's their annual movie night or something and Katsuki wants me to come with him so he's not 'stuck with boring losers' in his words. In Katsuki language, that means I want you there with me because you're my girlfriend and I like you. Katsuki language is something so sinister yet the meanings are very sweet.

I couldn't wait to see them all again! It's going to be so much fun!

While the Todoroki family eat, I run my fingers through my hair and slide into the spare seat beside Kōri. The younger twin giggles toward me and snuggles into my side while he chomps down onto his burger like nothing is happening. The smile on his lips enough to stop a war at this rate.

"I love your food, (Y/n),"...

"Thank you Kōri, now eat up so you can get big and strong like daddy and grandpa,"...

"Nah, I wanna be small forever!"...
