Chapter 10

Shit!

Cursing under my breath, my eyes instantly flash toward the clock in the auditorium. My leg beginning to bounce nervously as the clock begins to chip away at the time, making a dent in my plan for the evening. Nails begin to dig in the skin of my palm, trying to combat the nervousness swirling in my stomach as I look back toward the professor explaining the importance of reducing the carbon footprint of transportation of foods and the impact on the environment that it causes.

My hands shakily write down the notes as I bite my lip. Trying not to gather my things and just leg it out the room without a good reason. My heart in my throat as I turn toward the clock again and release a nervous sound before turning back to the professor who's still going on and on and on about what we need to write down. A small groan leaving my lips as I grip a handful of my hair and clench down on it while writing hunched over my desk.

How much longer have I got until we get dismissed?...

Class never ran over this late before! Our professor was always punctual when it came to classes and often respected that we all had jobs and such to go to... so why was he still teaching?! I had places to go and places to be! I needed to leave now but... I can't...

I'm not that confident to tell him...

For the third time, I turn back toward the clock, whining gently as we run twenty five minutes over. The twins had finished school ten minutes ago! I needed to leave to pick them up! It takes me ten minutes to get there too! So I'll be half an hour to forty five minutes late I'm picking them up... oh god... oh -

"Miss (Y/n)? Is something the matter?" The professor asks, catching me off guard making me squeak nervously and look toward him, "That's the third time you've checked the clock, is everything alright?"

"I - I... have to pick up these kids I'm babysitting," I stammer shyly, fiddling with my hair and twisting a strand around my fingers to try and calm my beating heart, "Their school finished... finished ten minutes ago..."

"Alright, you can go," The professor hums with a reassuring smile as I hastily grab my books and pencil case, frantically stuffing everything in my pencil case, "Just read pages 146 to 152 and produce notes,"

"Thank you sir," I hum, nodding my head toward him before darting out of the auditorium and zoom past students as quickly as I can, "Oh god. Oh god. Oh god."

Unfortunately, due to my quirk, the more stressed I become and the more anxious I get, the more overwhelming it becomes. A quirk that soothes others unfortunately results in the quirk user dealing with immense amount of stress because I'm practically absorbing the stress from whoever I'm using my quirk on. So I'm never actually calm... I may seem it though... I can control it when I want too...

Bursting out of the college building, I push past other students standing in my way making me curse under my breath. Shoto and Momo are going to kill me! Biting my lip, swerving and manoeuvring myself through pupils and yelling out apologies when I accidentally push into them. My feet going as fast as they can go. Now I know why I didn't do athletics...

God I need to get to my car!

Wincing gently as my foot bangs into a step, I manage to recover before I fall and sprint through. My heart hammering in my chest as my breathing becomes heavy. How do people run like this everyday?! Down the path, thank god, there are no students walking so it's just a straight path with no obstacles.

Looking down at my wrist, checking the time, I curse under my breath and shake my head with a small sigh. I'm now twenty minutes late on picking the twins up! This isn't good! God! Shoto and Momo are gonna be pissed when they find out! What if they -

CRASH!

Shrieking gently, I crash into a rather muscular body without realising and slips onto the ground with a small hiss. My hands pulsing in pain as I lightly graze them against the patio of the path. My papers and my books flying everywhere. Great! That's perfect! As if today couldn't get any worse.

Oh wait... it just did.

Slowly, I open my eyes and my breath hitches at who I crashed into. My stomach churning uncomfortably as I frantically grab my books and pencil case with a small whimper leaving my lips. Blood red eyes hone in on me, pearl white teeth gnashing angrily together as he pushes himself to his feet and brushes some mud off his drool worthy biceps before staring down at me. Making my back go numb, I watch as he stalks toward me and grabs my collar.

Great... I just bumped into Dynamight of all people!

"Hey! Watch where you're fucking going! You extra!" He growls, scowling toward me before staring at me with wide eyes as I push my knee into his stomach and kick him away with a small yell, panting as adrenaline courses throughout my veins, "What the..."

"I'm sorry but I need to go!" I frantically speak, dodging his arm as he goes to grab me again and ducks under his arm before slamming the heel of my hand at the bottom of his spine making him lurch forward, "You can yell at me another day if you're that desperate but for the record, you should also watch where you're going! Shouldn't a hero be more observational to their surroundings?"

"Wha - Hey!" He shrieks, watching as I dash off, unlocking my car with a small hum and diving into the front seat before throwing my books into the passenger seat and buckling myself in, "Fucking bit-"

Slamming my car door shut, cutting his insult off in the process, I run my fingers through my hair and take a deep breath to try and calm my thumping heart. A breathless smile plays on my lips as I turn the ignition of the car and it revs to life. Slowly, I set my hands on the steering wheel and gently wince a stab of pain rips through my hands. Oh yeah... my hands are grazed... typical!

Once calm, I pull out of the parking lot and manoeuvre myself out of the parking space, being aware of my surroundings, I leave the school campus and drive down town with a small hum.

I can't believe I just did that!

Giggling a bit incredulously, I shake my head as I look to the road. I can't believe I just took Dynamight down. How did I manage that?... I mean, it's been a long while since I actually did combat. Man, he's really not going to live that down. The Dynamight being taken down by a girl that isn't a pro hero nor an expert in defence training. I could imagine the blonde now cursing and shouting and puttering to himself. But damn... he's one heck of a unit. It would probably be an intriguing sight to see Dynamite so frustrated about being taken down.

His brow would be furrowed and his teeth would gnash together like an angry dog. He'd probably curl his hands into fists, maybe even tense his muscles slightly making them flex. Maybe -

"Incoming call from Miss Nakamura!"

Clearing my throat and focusing back onto the task at hand instead of drooling over Dynamight for no apparent reason, I click the answer button on my steering wheel and clear my throat as I turn into a junction with a hum.

"Miss (Y/n)? You're half an hour late in picking the twins up, are you not able to pick them up?" Miss Nakamura's voice asks coming through the speakers of my car, "Shall I call Mr and Mrs Todoroki?"

"There's no need to do that, my class was running a bit late," I explain, nervously chuckling as I indicate the turn into the next junction I'm approaching with a small hum, "I'm literally about five minutes away, I'm so sorry for the delay... I should have at least emailed or texted you that I'd be running behind,"

"It's not a problem, the boys were worried you were taken by a villain or something so I promised I'd call to make sure," She explains, giggling gently to herself before clearing her throat, I could sense the smile on her lips as she spoke, "I'll see you in a second,"

As the phone call is cut off, I turn into the school parking lot and leave the car once I turn the ignition off. Without a second thought, I run down to where the boys' classroom is and gently knock on the classroom door from outside, sending the teacher an apologetic smile as she walks over and opens the door. Where I'm instantly attacked by cuddles by the twins making me laugh gently and hold them close with a smile.

"Sorry I was so late," I hum, running my fingers through the twins' black locks and giggling as the boys bury their heads into my side, clinging desperately to me, "Class ran over and I had an altercation with someone,"

"What happened?" Kōri asks worried, his grey and blue eyes shimmering with tears as he snuggles into me and sniffles, "Are you hurt?"

"I'm okay, sweetie," I promise, poking his nose gently as he looks up at me making him giggle weakly and sniffle, "Come on you two, let's get you home so I can start dinner and we can watch cartoons, yeah?"

"Yeah! Thank you Miss Nakamura!" The twins squeal, nodding toward their teacher before skipping off toward my car and jumping into the back. The two of them smiling between each other as I walk to the car and help buckle them in with their teacher following close behind, "Bye bye!"

"Bye boys," Their teacher hums, waving them goodbye as I shut the car door before I turn to get to apologise but she holds her hand up to stop me before smiling, "I know how hard it must be to juggle your college work and babysit the two boys so don't apologise. If you feel like your class will overrun again, let me know or arrange for someone else to pick them up. Okay?"

"Yeah, of course," I explain, rubbing the back of my neck with a weak smile before laughing gently as Miss Nakamura sticks her tongue out toward me, "I'll see you soon,"

"Goodbye, try not to stress too much," She hums, nodding toward me as I get into the drivers seat of the car before she leaves to head back to her classroom. Possibly to look at the work the twins and their class have done for the day.

Calmly, I get myself ready now that the boys are now in my care and I don't need to rush around anymore. I take a deep breath, adjust my mirrors slightly to make sure they're in the right position before resting my hands on the steering wheel and starting the engine. Again, I wince at the contact, my hands still pulsing with pain as I grip the leather of the wheel and begin to manoeuvre out of the parking lot and back toward the Todoroki estate.

I needed to clean my hands up when I get there... god knows how much blood I'm smearing against my steering wheel...

Every now and then, I look at the rear view mirror to check on the twins. The two boys silently sitting at the back, playing with their hands as they look in their laps. Kōri still slightly sniffling while Ryoku looks out the window with a small sigh.

"Boys? Are you okay?" I ask gently, sending them a small reassuring smile through the mirror before turning my concentration back onto the road as I arrive at a junction and indicate to turn into it, "Is something the matter?"

"We were worried," Ryoku admits gently, looking at me through the rear view mirror as his eyes shimmer with tears, "We thought you were taken away..."

"Or that you left us..." Kōri mumbles gently, looking down in his lap and picking at the lint on his pants, "Don't want you to go (Y/n)..."

"Boys, I'm really sorry I was late," I explain, parking the car up into the driveway and turning the ignition off before turning toward them to give them my full attention, "But I'm never going to let a villain get in my way to pick you up, okay? I pinkie promise to you that next time I'm late, I'll let you know,"

"Okay," the boys hum, intertwining their pinkies with my own before moving our linked hands up and down to seal it then we break away, "What's for dinner?"

"You boys can have whatever you want, take it as an apology for taking so long to pick you up,"...

"Soba!"...

"Katsudon!"...
