Four
Audrey hoisted herself onto a branch. The tough, scratchy bark dug into her palms and legs, but she didn't care. She just needed to wait. It didn't have to be comfortable. She glanced at her watch. 12:34. Wally and the team would be here in an hour or so. She let her mind wander. What was Bruce doing now? Was he worried about her? Maybe. What if Wally didn't get the note? He probably did. Why wasn't the team here yet? Because it's only 12:36, moron. She hated that she was so logical. An owl hooted. She yawned. The team wouldn't be here until about 1:30... she probably could take a quick nap. Closing her eyes, she let darkness swamp her.
"Audrey?" A weak voice sounded. She sat up and looked at her surroundings. Wow... it was so different from last time she was here that she gasped. The last time she had dreamed, they had been standing on a green, sunny hill, there were birds chirping, there was a forest in the distance, and a small creek in the valley below. Now, it was almost as if they were in a giant metal box, with fog and mist, and she shivered. Then she saw Robin, and had to fight the urge to throw up. He was lying in a crumpled heap on the ground. His right leg was twisted and bleeding, with pus oozing from the wound. He had scratches on his face, and his hair was dirty and matted, like he hadn't showered in months. He had burn marks on his arms, and his fingers were icy blue and black. And the smell—Oh god, the SMELL. The stench of burning and rotting flesh was emanating from him so strongly she was forced to take a step back. "What... what HAPPENED?" Ignoring the odor, she raced to his side and placed her hand on his forehead. It was hot to the touch. Her other hand held one of his fingers gently, letting her warmth seep into him. He yelped, and in a weak voice croaked: "Please don't touch me. It won't help—it'll just hurt." Reluctantly, she let go, and he continued. "Usually I can control the surroundings in my dreams, but yesterday DeathStroke beat me so bad I am too weak to do anything, much less control my dreams. I came to tell you where I am. Do you know Mt. Diablo?" She nodded. "Devil Mountain. Yeah, I think I know it." He let out a soft sigh. "Good. That's where I am. And please hurry!" With those last words, her dream dissolved, and she woke up to someone else calling her name.
"Audrey!"
