Chapter 19

Zora and Kiba's two-man mission to rescue the boy in the lab was going much easier than planned. Haggar and the rest of her druids had all been called to Zarkon's throne room. So their lab was incredibly empty, the only problem remaining was the keypad on the door.

Kiba stood at the edge of the hall, keeping a watch out for anyone who may pose a threat. Zora was knelt down in front of the door, staring intently at the keypad. She'd watched one of he druids type the code in and memorized it completely. 5-8-9-7-7

There was a quiet hiss as the door slid open. Zora stepped into the lab, trying not to glance at the tubes that hung on the walls. Inside each tube was a horrible monster that haggar had created. She silently prayed that the boy was still alive, still on the table.

She crept through the lab, to the table on the back. The boy was still laying there, his skin pale, and his bones sticking out sharply beneath his flesh. He was covered in cuts and bruises, and his breathes were shot and shallow. Several IV needles ran into his arms, Zora pulled them out as gently as she could.

The boy was too badly injured to regain consciousness or move on his own. As a Galran, Zora was much taller and stronger than the average human. So it was simple for her to pick the boy up like he weighed absolutely nothing.

Zora carried him out of the lab, meeting Kiba in the hall. They were both silently praying that no one walked past them, because if someone did, they would both end up dead.

When they got to a small abandoned hanger, Kiba typed in the code and Zora put the boy gently down into the transport. It was a simple matter for Kiba to alter the coordinates for the autopilot on the transport. Galra transports carried weapons and supplies, often without a pilot. There would be no questions for a transport leaving with a group of other transports. Kiba simply changed the coordinates from a galra occupied moon to the last place where the Paladins of Voltron had put their base.

The transport was scheduled to leave in 3 minutes. Kiba and Zora stood at the edge of the hangar while the transports were sent off. No one recognized Zora, because she was wearing the armor of a Galra soldier that Kiba had stolen for her. The only thing passing soldiers would see was one of their respected superiors standing next to a soldier who was a little smaller than average.

The transport launched with the rest, and Zora just prayed that it got somewhere safe. There would be an uproar when the Druids realized that one of their test subjects had escaped. But the Princess and her bodyguard would be beyond suspicion, and they were counting on that.

Zora was snapped out of her thoughts by Kiba, who shoved her roughly against a wall. "Kiba, what do you think your-"

Kiba was facing off against two armed soldiers who were wearing masks. He had his sword up in seconds and was protecting both himself and Zora. Zora felt a sharp prick in the back of her neck and then everything went black.
