Chapter 14

Zora knew the paths on this warship better than anyone else, and so she took a hall she knew would be empty. Her steps echoed in the hall, a sound the seemed much louder than it should have been.

She stopped in front of the door to the Druid's lab, her hand raised to knock, but the door swung open before she had a chance to knock. Zora stood as tall as she could, stepping inside.

"I need to speak to Haggar."

"Of course Princess Zora," One of the druids bowed out of the way.

Zora stepped farther into the room, careful not to let her horror show on her face. The tubes holding some of Haggar's experiments bubbled and glowed in the shadowy interior of the lab. A body occupied one of the several experiment tables, a second body on another table farther back. Neither of them were moving.

Moving toward the one in the front, Zora recognized Kiba. He was motionless, his face streaked with blood. Several IV needles ran from one of his arms. Zora grabbed them and jerked them out quickly, knowing Haggar, whatever was in the tubes wouldn't be pleasant. Kiba's face was bruised, like he'd been beaten. His arms and legs were strapped down.

"Kiba," Zora hissed, leaning down over him.

He groaned slightly, opening his yellow eyes. "Princess..."

"Kiba... I'm going to get you out of here."

Kiba began to struggle, pulling on the restraints. "Princess, you need to get out of here."

"Stop, stay still," Zora whispered, putting a hand on Kiba's chest. "Just stay put for a little while longer, Okay?"

"Princess Zora, how lovely to see you again," Haggar's rough voice came out from the shadows.

Zora backed away from Kiba, stepping toward Haggar, "And to see you."

"Was your journey informative? Did you gain the knowledge you sought?"

"Yes, I did. Haggar, what have you done to Kiba? Who ordered this?"

"Ahhh, yes. Your loyal guard dog. Your Father ordered that I go through his mind, make sure he was still loyal. And he wanted me to make him suffer, to suffer for taking you away from the safety of this warship."

"It wasn't Kiba's idea to leave! I was the one who left."

"I know Child. But this had to be done, your friends mind is as it always was. I've simply allowed one of my druids to do a few little tests on him. He'll be fine in time. Take him and go."

Zora nodded, "Thank you Haggar. Truly."

She walked to the table, and began untying the restraints binding Kiba. Zora pulled him up, helping him stand. Kiba's arm was over Zora's shoulders, and she was supporting most of his weight. His legs buckled, and Zora put every ounce of strength she had into holding him up.

Together they slowly made their way out of the lab, leaving behind the grisly scene.
