Sonic didn't want to be the one to bring in the news. He definitely hated to let go of Shadow, but what he hated the most was having to wait.

Yes, wait.

Even Rouge took it badly and had to leave the room to take some time off.

Now, he had to tell everyone that Shadow, an important asset to The Resistance, was a Zombot.

"What happened with Shadow?", Tails asked along with Silver. As the words left his mouth, everyone in The Resistance stopped what they were doing. Everyone wanted to know why hasn't he appeared yet.

"He is...gone...I am sorry."

No one dared to say a word, and silence filled the room.

"Quick, I need a full report on Echo Eleven! Echo Three needs backup!" Amy Rose said through her communicator as she entered the room and then everyone went back to work. "Oh, Sonic! I am glad you made it back safely, how are you?"

"I am good, I would like a three-week nap tho." Sonic tried to smile at the pink one. "How about you?"

"I am not sure how much longer I can take. I'll feel better as soon as I make sure Team Dark is ok." Amy said as she turned around to look at Sonic.

Tails and Silver looked at each other, watching the two interact.

"You were with them right, Sonic? Where are they?"

"Rouge is taking a break and Omega is going under repairments."

"And Shadow?" Amy asked as she listened carefully to the soldiers of The Resistance speaking through her earbuds. "Echo three, do you copy me?"

"Well, Shadow is... gone," Sonic whispered the last part.

"Echo eleven, assist Echo three immediately!" Amy screamed through her communicator. "I am sorry Sonic, I didn't hear you. What happened with Shadow?"

"He is gone!"

Sonic watched Amy's pupil, dilate. She looked at him straight in the eyes, her expression changed anxious to baffled. She took a few seconds and looked at Tails who was a few meters behind Sonic.

"Tails, could you take over for a while? I need a break." Amy asked, still not changing her expression. Tails nodded and ran towards her as she pulled off her communicator and her earbuds and give it to him.

She slowly exited the door.

Sonic was baffled, he didn't expect this reaction from her. He turned around to find answers from Silver as Tails was busy directing the mission through the communicator.

Silver took Sonic to Tails' workshop where they could talk.

Omega was also there, waiting to be repaired.

"Why did you tell Amy Shadow was gone?" Silver asked the blue one in front of Omega's head.

"Because she asked me?! How was I supposed she was going to react like that?" Sonic defended himself but he still felt bad that he made Amy feel that way.

"Yes, but you could have told her later! She is under a lot of pressure lately! Poor Amy..." Silver said as he looked down to the floor. "Knowing that the one you love turned into a zombot must be horrible."

"Wait? 'The one you love?", Sonic asked curiously. Wasn't that supposed to be him?

"Oh, yes I forgot you weren't around! During the six months, we thought you were dead, Shadow and Amy got really close. He was there for her all the time. I really think they both like each other.", Silver concluded.

"Affirmative, Shadow possess attraction for Amy Rose."

Sonic and Silver turned to see Omega's head, "Can you elaborate more on that, Omega?" Sonic asked.

"According to my data, Shadow's heartbeat and sweat level increases. Not to mention that Shadow shows affection and smiles with Amy Rose only." Omega made a pause. "...I ship it."

"Me too Omega! I would high five you if I could." Shadow smiled awkwardly. Silver turned to look at Sonic but he wasn't there.

Sonic didn't know what to feel. Why didn't Amy tell him about her feelings for Shadow? Wasn't he supposed to be the one she loves? Wasn't she supposed to be there for him forever? Wasn't him her hero anymore?

Sonic wanted to take a run but stopped himself as he saw Amy sitting on a tree outside the Resistance HQ. He approached her and sat down next to her, leaving a space between them. The last thing he wanted was to infect Amy with the virus.

"I am sorry...I wish I could save him." Sonic said.

"It is my fault. I should have known better. I should have known he wouldn't back up if needed...Shadow is just way too stubborn." Amy's mouth trembled as she let a tear shed. "Shadow..."

"No Amy, it's my fault. Shadow was right, I shouldn't have been on the way of him getting to Eggman. If I hadn't stopped Shadow, then we wouldn't be in this mess." Sonic sighed, "I am sorry."

"Just wait for Shadow to come back...I am going to punch him so hard that we won't remember his name for weeks. That Shadow..."

Sonic looked at Amy, her fierce eyes, her strong yet elegant face. She wasn't going to give up, she was going to continue fighting,

Oh Chaos, he was so in love with her.

"You love him...don't you?" Sonic didn't realize that he had said that out loud.

Amy turned around as she didn't expect Sonic ask her that. She took a few seconds to think about her answers.

"I think so."

There was a silence between the two. And none dared to say anything.

"You should tell him."

"What?"

"You should tell him...I am sure he feels the same." Sonic stood up from his seat. He couldn't see Amy in the eyes. He wasn't strong enough to let her go just yet.

He was that selfish.

"Sonic...are you-"

Sonic didn't let her finish her sentence. He began to run, he was exhausted but anything was better than to see Amy's face glow up at the mention of Shadow's name.

That's what pained him the most.

The fact that he didn't want to accept the facts.

Sonic had seen it before.

Shadow talking to Amy whenever he could.

Amy playfully touching her hair as she got nervous whenever Shadow was around.

Shadow compliment Amy's fighting skills.

Shadow looking at Amy from afar.

Sonic saw all of that and still, he didn't want to admit it.

He didn't want to admit that he had lost.

He was too late.

To hell with it.

Sonic went back to Amy in a flash. She didn't even move from her spot yet. Sonic got close to her and Amy saw a new side to Sonic that she didn't see before.

"I like you, Amy Rose! And when Shadow gets back, I promise you that I will fight for you! I'll get you back!"

Sonic saw Amy's blushing face. She couldn't say anything, she only stared at his face, letting her emotions run through her body.

For a moment, nothing existed, no zombots, no resistance, no eggman...No Shadow.

Only Sonic and her.

Only her hero and her.
