Plot: Being Immortal sometimes leaves one regretting and shutting oneself out from those you care about the most.

Extra: Sonic and Shadow are married, with a daughter.
(Bonus: Sonic is getting older as time passes, and Shadow is dreading it)

The sound of laughter was heard as a small black hedgehog with dark purple stripes in her quills, and long bangs coming out of the stripe that traveled from her forehead to the top quill, she was wearing a white t-shirt underneath some jean overalls. She has dark purple sneakers, golden inhibitor rings on her wrists and ankles, and a pale peach muzzle underbelly with a fluffy white patch of fur on her chest. As she ran through the field of lush flowers and green grass, she was just in eyeshot of her two parents who were followed behind her.

A race one would say where the two older hedgehogs purposefully let their young daughter win.

The male black hedgehog's grin started to fade as he started to set up the picnic in the usual spot that this family would normally eat at during these warm months, his crimson eyes never shifting away from his nine-year-old daughter and his husband who was keeping her entertained.

"Heh...Don't go too far, Stella..."

"Okay, Papa!"

Shadow's ears perked up a little when heard some coughing and slight wheezing before it started to die down...he felt an arm wrap around him and a pair of warm lips on his cheek, seeing the darker blue pelt and scared peach chest, he couldn't help but to lean into the embrace.

"You need to stop pushing yourself"

He commented to his older husband. His crimson eyes glanced up at the glossy beautiful emerald eyes, a slight scar that traveled down from his left eye to his cheek, the blue hedgehog was lucky enough that he could still see out that eye.

"Relax, Shads I'm not that frail"

The older blue hedgehog joked a slight snicker afterward, despite him being in his forties, all that chaos energy from his use with the chaos emeralds. Started to weaken his body faster than any normal mobian, causing him to age quickly. It was just something that he hadn't noticed until the birth of his daughter.

Shadow only scoffs at the joke and pulls himself away from the warm embrace...he only folded his arms over his chest with his nails digging into the leather of his jacket. Unlike any other mobian, he was rather cursed with foreign DNA from his own, making him this semi-perfect being he was immortal...immune to all kinds of diseases that of being both human and mobian. He didn't age though his appearance changes just slower than normal.

Sonic glanced at his younger husband when he pulled away from his embrace...a soft exhale escaped his lips as he set himself down beside his husband.

"Sorry, I didn't think that joke would cause that kind of reaction."

The slight breeze blew through the field and the quills of the two hedgehogs, their daughter still close to earshot and eyeshot of them as she had started to make a flower crown with some of the flowers that she thought were pretty.

"I just..."

Shadow started just to break this silence.

"Don't understand how you can still be so energetic, so life full like you were when we were teenagers, and you look like that."

Sonic huffs out his cheeks at the remark about his appearance, not that he looked any different from when he was younger besides having messier and longer blue quills, with slight gray strains in them sure compared to his husband he looked old, and with his health deteriorating cause of all his adventures and running catching up to him. Like his weak lungs, his legs not being able to support his weight when he's standing for too long, or running at the normal speed that he used to when he was younger. Hints the black knee pad that he wears on his knees to keep his muscles from swelling in his legs. He was a little hurt. But he can at least understand where his husband's thoughts are.

"Well I told you before, I'd rather live life to the fullest and not think about the future and think of the now"

Shadow was quiet before unfolding his arms scooting his body closer to the other, he rested his head on his husband's lap.

"But...I'll try not to push my body over its limits. I still want to be around when Stella gets married or lives out her dreams"

"Tsk...like hell I'll let her get married"

Sonic only started rubbing his hands through his husband's quills while keeping his gaze on his daughter.

"You still look beautiful."

"Heh, I already forgive you for that comment about my appearance Shads."

Stella came over holding a flower crown that she had made. She only stood on her tippy toes to place it on the blue hedgehog's head.

"Why thank you, Stella"

Stella only gave her father a cute smile before her eyes glanced down at her other dad who had his eyes closed just enjoying the slight grooming from his husband's hand running through his quills.

"Is Daddy okay?"

"He's fine Stella, just getting those thoughts again"

"Well Daddy isn't going be alone cause he has me and Uncle Tails, and Auntie Rouge"

Shadow peaked one eye open when heard his daughter's cheerful voice, he knew that she was a little too to young understand that the lonely feeling that would feel if his husband took his last breath, was something different than a family and friend kind of love. But just hearing her keeping her good spirits lightened up his mood a little.

Sonic only chuckles as he pulls his daughter over to the other side of his lap, and just gives her a soft smooch on her cheek.

"After Lunch Papa? Can we have another race?"

She asked the blue hedgehog.

Sonic only pauses, after that race to get this to the area his lungs started to feel like they were burning...but before he could answer.

"Let you Papa Rest Stella...I don't mind racing against you myself"

"Okie, but no cheating this time!"

The young hoglet said as she cutely pouted in such a way that it mimicked her own father's grumpy and normal expression, that kind of got a slight snicker from the older blue hedgehog at his daughter's expression.

"What? When have I ever cheated?"

Shadow remarked as he sat himself up on his husband's lap to glare back at his daughter.

"Papa tell Daddy that his shoes aren't fair in a foot race?"

Shadow only fake gasped at her daughter's remark, he kind of knew that his husband was to blame for all this since both speedsters' footwear is designed to fit their pacific physique. If anything he puts more effort into his footing and technique than the blue hedgehog, who is...well...was more mobile and agile with his movements.

"Oh I'll show you cheating"

The young hoglet started giggling when she was playfully attacked by her father, mostly when she was pulled off of her other father's lap. And was aggressively but gently nuzzles into her.

Sonic couldn't help but chuckle a little at the scene, before him...though his gaze shifted away from his family to the field before him, his mind started to wander as started to get flashbacks of his little races with his husband.

"You okay Love?"

"Hmm?"

Sonic shifted his attention back to his family when heard his husband call out to him...Stella held onto him as she was looking at her older father with a slight bit of concern in her eyes.

It took Sonic a minute to process what was going on he hadn't noticed that his eyes had started to tear up from a slight memory of his youth, they weren't sad tears...though but proud ones mostly at himself cause of how far he had come. If anything he wasn't as fearful as he was when he was younger for his end, now that he knew that he had left a legacy and impression on everyone on Mobius.

He only gave his family a cheerful grin. "Yeah, I'm alright."

Stella only jumped out of Shadow's arms into the older hedgehog's. The two shared a soft laugh as Sonic only nuzzled into her...he held his arms out for his husband to join in on the embrace.

Shadow only pulls his husband to him, pressing his tan lips to those soft peach ones.

"Ew!?! Kissing"

Stella interrupted making a disgusted face at her fathers as she was holding back some laughter. The two older hedgehogs only turned their attention to their playful daughter before her a kiss on each of her cheeks.

Note: I'm alive and well...sorry for just suddenly disappearing on you guys like that I've been going through some self loathing lately cause of things that had been happening to me that involves the Writing Side of the Sonic Community. Anyhow I'm not going to comeback anytime soon. Not this upcoming year cause I was to do some self improvement so I at least hope this Oneshot, and my other Cringe and Shitty Fanfictions are enough to hold you off.
