I

Louis wondered if this was a mistake.

Uncertain if he had entirely thought this through and that moving to Manchester was a bad idea. That he should be back in Doncaster back at his home with his boyfriend. That's where he should be right now, laying in bed and having a cuddle.

Yet, here Louis was outside Liam's building with Cameron who's got a soothing hand on Louis' thigh.

Louis felt ill.

Naturally, he was nervous about how things were changing and that the only person he'd know around here was Liam. If he desired to go see his family and friends, he'd have to take the train, unless they came to him. God knows when that'd be though.

Honestly, it was kind of annoying that Liam hadn't offered to help Louis get settled in since he apparently had a busy day ahead of him. Working out around the gym, he managed until dawn faded into dusk and then heading on over to his parents afterwards for dinner. Which meant an endless amount of privacy with Cameron since he'd promised Louis he'd stay for the weekend.

If it weren't obvious, they made up. Few weeks ago Cameron had rung Louis, begging for him to come home. Apologised for being a dickhead and for the things he said, pleading for forgiveness. Making a promise that he'd be a better boyfriend and that he had been nothing but selfish. That he would make more time for them. Cameron made Louis' eyes shimmer with tears, and he believed his beau.

It was the first time they saw each other since the break and Cameron stayed the night with Louis.

Ever since then, things had been great, not exactly amazing, but definitely a vast improvement. Louis loved that they had actually gone on a few dates, nothing too extravagant or excessive. Mostly just went for a nice meal and saw a few films at the cinema. Louis moved back in with Cameron shortly after making up, actually got to accompany his boyfriend out for a few nights with their mates for once, and it was nice. Louis had appreciated the effort, he truly did.

However... The one thing that kind of bothered Louis a bit was when the flock of gals showed up and stole everyone's attention other than Louis' thus making it a bore. Cameron, Dalton, and Austin had been preoccupied with them. Louis didn't care he had his drink and Cammy could be mates with whoever he wanted.

So what if his boyfriend's attention was on someone else?

Louis was sat beside him the entire night. He definitely wasn't jealous at all when some girl named Olivia tried to pull his boyfriend right in front of him. All. Night. Long.

Other than that mishap, it'd been good. Louis was just so grateful that Cameron had finally seen what the problem had been all along.

With hope, being away from his love would be the cure.

"Nervous?" Cameron asked as Louis felt a gentle squeeze against his leg. The volume to the radio had been turned down low, and droplets of rain started to patter against the windscreen.

Louis shifted in his seat and stared at his boyfriend, letting a sigh fall from his lips. Stomach was a mixture of flutteriness and emptiness. Louis was excited about the move, eager to make some new friends and restrengthen his bond with Liam. In hopes that this would save his relationship too. Although, he was kind of terrified because what if he needed Cammy? What if Louis missed him terribly and wanted a cuddle from him?

There were many pros and cons about this that's for sure.

"About?" Louis thumbed over the loose threading of his ripped trousers, trying to ease his nerves a bit.

"You know what I mean, babe," Cameron cooed out, Louis loved how soft his love could be with him, especially at times like this.

Louis' gaze fell to the comforting palm that rested upon his thigh for a moment as he took a calming breath. Not long after he looked back up to his boy and replied, "My new job? Nah, not too worried about, sure I'll do great."

Frankly, Louis was rather eager about it, it'd be a nice change to see new faces and scenery. It was getting somewhat redundant and tiresome at his old job. Maybe once he works at this new pub for a while, he'll actually start to miss his old one. Be overjoyed to head on back when the time comes.

"Living with Liam might be a bit of a challenge as he can be a real ninny at times, but I'm sure it'll be fine."

Louis wasn't too worried about his living arrangements, Liam was usually working most days. Louis wasn't even sure what Liam did with his days anymore you know other than pumping iron and visiting family. For as long as Louis had known the lad and gotten the "I'm too busy" excuse all these years it was bound to be a lot of alone time for Louis. Which was fine, they didn't need to hangout twenty-four seven. That may actually be for the best honestly, so they don't end at each other's throats by the end of Louis' stay.

"But?" Cameron proceeded to push further.

Louis blinked, unsure if he even wanted to say it, worried it may start an argument that they definitely didn't need to happen right now. It was a genuine concern though, after everything that's happened, who wouldn't?

"I mean, as long as we make time for one another, then everything will be fine." Louis needed Cameron to see that he was fine even if underneath it all, he was a bundle of stress. Not wanting to have Cammy worry about him or make illicit comments about the situation. They had the next three days together, and Louis will be damned if anything ruined this.

Cameron let out a ragged huff. "I still think this whole thing is rubbish, but if you truly think this will help, then I'll try my best."

That's the thing, Louis wanted Cameron to do more than just try to be there he needed to make an effort.

Yeah, he knew his beau wasn't exactly a massive fan of the whole idea, didn't like the thought of having to travel out of his way to come see his boyfriend. Wasn't pleased about not having Louis there in their bed every night or coming home to his favourite boy. Cameron complained about it for days on end and told Louis time and time again that they don't need it. That it won't save a damn thing and would just make things harder for them. It wasn't until Louis told him that if he wanted their relationship to last, then he needed to get over himself and stop being so selfish.

Of course, Louis still didn't particularly enjoy the idea, but after Liam had presented the idea to him, he thought about it for days. Weighing the positive and negatives and getting advice from his mum to see what she thought. Even went online to seek advice and eventually came around to the idea as it started to make more sense, the more Louis looked into it.

Not only that... but his mother kind of swayed him to give a shot and see how it goes, not like it'd be permanent anyway.

But after Cameron thought over the proposition after spending quite a few nights on the sofa and getting the cold shoulder from his boyfriend, he came to Louis and told him they could do it. Apologized for his choice of words he said and reassured Louis that everything would be okay. That even if he didn't love the idea whatsoever, he was gonna do whatever it took to make things better.

Louis leaned over the centre console and pecked his boy on the lips, avid for a little bit of affection. Desired a sense of intimacy to make him feel better about everything before they got out of this car. Before Louis' life was about to change for a little while.

Adoring it when Cameron had gone back for a kiss, loving it dearly. Mourning the loss of the palm that rested against his thigh when it was gone. Louis yearned for that, ached to have Cameron's touch and knowing he was right beside Louis, that he wasn't going anywhere.

But as much as Louis longed to feel sweet affections, he needed to move into his new home.

"Suppose we should start heading up then." Louis said before he got out of the car, not minding the rain so much. Not like he had anywhere important to be where he had to look put together, it's not like he was trying to impress anyone either.

Louis couldn't help but wonder though, would they go out tonight? Explore the city and get a feel for it?

Cameron had given Louis his word last night when they were in bed having a bit of pillow talk that they could go out for dinner one of the nights. Telling Louis how they were long overdue for a date as it had been a while and it was the perfect excuse to do so. So, Louis was looking forward to that.

"You think we should go find his number first?" Louis asked as he watched his boyfriend, who was messing with his mobile.

Okay so what if Louis had never actually been to Liam's place before, it's not his fault they're both busy men and Liam never offered. Louis had only ever gotten a glimpse of his living space from time to time whenever Liam posted shirtless photos of himself on his socials. Louis had no clue what he was walking into truth, be told and how he's going to survive.

Louis pulled the key from his pocket that Liam had sent him in the post a few days ago, raring to go inside already and escape the drizzle. Also, Louis just wanted to be settled in already and spend the whole day lounging around with his beau. Kissing and cuddling, indulging in tenderness during vulnerable moments.

Yet, Cammy was fixated on his phone and hadn't even bothered to acknowledge Louis.

"Cammy?"

Louis waited, fiddling with the key as he stood there and let out a sigh when he'd gotten no response as his boyfriend laughed at whatever was preoccupying his attention. Running his fingers through his dirty blonde quiff, smiling down at his device.

And he got no response, not even the slightest bit of a hint that Cameron had even heard Louis whatsoever.

"Babe?" Louis tried again with a little more sternness, hoping it'd catch his man's attention.

It felt like ages before Cameron peered up from his mobile with furrowed brows as he stared at Louis, eyebrow raised.

"What?"

"Aren't you gonna come up with me or are you going to play on your phone instead?"

Cameron rolled his eyes and let out an irritated sigh, Louis bit back the frown wanting to peak through. He didn't understand why Cammy was giving his attitude all of a sudden, all Louis was asking for here was some support. A minuscule of his attention. Desirous for a peck on the cheek and words of reassurance that they got this, that everything will be okay.

Sure, Louis didn't need his hand held through all of this nor have his love present for the move, but he didn't want to feel alone. He loved Cameron's company and anytime that they could steal with whatever they had left, Louis wanted to make the most of it.

Louis had his fingers crossed once he was settled; they could have a cuddle.

They both don't say a word after that and head on into the building.

When they're inside Liam's flat, Louis wasn't exactly all too impressed, it was quite small if you asked him. The kitchenette was like the size of a postage stamp, the living area was rather bland and bare with its prehistoric telly that had seen better days and dodgy settee that looked lived in. Not to mention the lack of decorations or anything remotely interesting like gaming consoles and a streaming device. Not that Louis was shocked, Liam's never been one to sit in front of a screen all day. The toilet was even smaller than the kitchen, and that was just sad. How in the fuck were they going to do this?

Like, they're bound to not have enough privacy if Liam miraculously end's having a lot of off time during the day hours. God, they kill each other if so, not literally, but you get the point.

However, nothing was disappointing as when Louis found his room where he'd be staying for the next nine months. Thirty nine long weeks.

Fuck.

The room was depressive as the rest of it, a single bed that Louis was sure going to give him back pain for days. Nightstand with a dodgy lamp and a wardrobe.

So yeah... Louis was starting to regret his decision.

Fucking hell, why didn't Liam mention anything to Louis about how shitty the accommodations would be? That maybe Louis should have put money aside to get things for his own comfort to make it bearable. You know where Louis could've gotten one of the memory foam toppers and thicker blankets because Louis had a feeling the heating in the colder months would be shit.

No wonder Liam's flatmate left.

"And how are we supposed to sleep on that thing?" Cameron asked bitingly, gesturing towards the small bed. "I'll be cramped for sure."

"It's not like we hadn't slept in one before," Louis kind of liked the idea of how close they bed, adored the thought of being held close to his sweet boy. " We'll be fine."

Cameron scoffed with his arms crossed. "But that was ages ago, and we didn't really have a choice on that."

It's not Louis' fault on what bed he ended up with, he's not the one who told Liam to downsize it. It's not a big deal to Louis, back when they were in uni they slept together all the time. They made it work, and Louis recalls never hearing any complaints about it during that time in their lives.

Sure they had gotten spoiled with having a big 'ol bed for the past few years, but it won't be the end world, right?

They'll just have to make due whether Cameron wanted to or not.

"You know I can't sleep if I get too hot." Cammy complained, and Louis bit his tongue.

Right, how could Louis forget that?

Cameron had hard feelings when it came to being touched or too layered in blankets before sleep. It had come as a surprise when they had finally moved in together and upgraded to a bigger bed. Louis' heart cracked a bit because to find out your boyfriend deep down always hated it whenever you nestled against him. Despised it when Louis would want to fall asleep in his beau's arms.

Louis had no idea how this was even going to work with how his love was acting over it. But he doesn't want to worry about it right now and worry about other things.

"I'm gonna start bringing stuff up." Was all Louis said on that and then turned on his heels and made his way out the flat.

Back at Cameron's car, the rain had started to pick up along with the wind. Of fucking course it did, what wonderful timing. Just Louis' luck. But instead of standing around like a blockhead, Louis didn't spare ant seconds as he grabbed not one but two boxes from the backseat. Deciding that if he worked smarted and not harder then that lessened his chance of being drenched head to toe. Also, the boxes weren't too heavy, either.

And Cameron finally made an appearance from the building, but all Louis gave him was a small smile that had nothing but thankfulness behind it. Louis was grateful that his beau was here giving a helping hand despite the conflict of interest. It was nice having him here.

Cammy's gotten this vexed expression written all over his face when he gave Louis a passing glance as he went around the car, not even saying a word. Louis' heart deflated at that and went back to the task at hand: moving his shit into Liam's.

Ugh, Louis really wasn't in the mood to do this anymore, but there's no point in stopping now.

So with that, Louis put the lighter box on top of the heavier one and picked them up. He knew come later his back was bound to be sore, but it'll be worth it. Not only that... but it kind of gave an excuse for Cammy to give him a massage later on.

So maybe it wasn't the brightest decision Louis had ever made over carrying twice the load up as he couldn't see a damn thing, but he's not going to quit now. The faster he moved in, the quicker the downtime came along. Also, the stubborn side of Louis didn't want to admit defeat and get the job done.

From there on out it was careful steps as Louis headed back inside and into the creaky lift. Already feeling the weight of it all when the doors close, happy that the next trip he'd make would be easier. All he really had to do was grab Cammy and his bag's. Expectantly, Louis would be settled, and they could start to worry about what to have for dinner since Louis could already feel himself getting a bit peckish.

Maybe it started when Louis had stepped off the lift and went down the corridor, or perhaps it was when he could feel the boxes starting to slip from his grasp when something or more so someone bumped into him. Thus causing the boxes to fall out of his hands. Fucking Fantastic.

Could this day get any worse?

That person or what Louis would like to call that dickhead didn't even stop to lend a hand at the mess he caused or even had the decency to apologize. No, because apparently, he was too fucking selfish as he chatted away on his phone and dashed down the hall.

Louis was enraged.

As much as Louis would love to chase the prick down and voice his anger, he knew nothing good would come from that. First of all, Louis didn't even catch a glimpse of the culprit and secondly, he really wasn't in the mood for confrontation right now. You know being the new tenant and all... making enemies on the first day wouldn't be a good look for him.

But the next time they cross paths, Louis won't hesitate to say something.

***

After it had all been said and done, Louis was sat on the rickety old bed while Cameron had stepped out for a moment to give someone a ring. He didn't bother to tell Louis who he needed to reach, but it wasn't a massive deal. Not like it held any importance to Louis.

They had yet to unpack, and neither of them felt up for that tedious chore quite yet, they'd get to it later. All Louis desired was to spend time with his darling boy.

And Louis had missed him already.

Openheartedly, Louis knew they were on borrowed time, and they couldn't waste a single moment of it.

It hadn't been too long before Cameron reemerged back into the room and slid down into the spot beside Louis. A long sigh fell from his supple lips, and Louis felt a gentle pressure against the small of his back, adoring the tender affection.

"Everything okay?" Louis asked, leaning in a touch closer.

"I don't wanna talk about it." Cameron's response was curt and terse. Louis doesn't press it further and sits there in silence.

If Cameron had wanted to share it, he would've, but it wasn't Louis' place to pry.

Louis sat there, trying to think of what to say or do, anything to get his boyfriend's mind off whatever it was bothering him. All Louis wanted was to see that gorgeous smile he hadn't seen in forever, to laugh, and just be happy. To be okay.

Yet, how could he do that?

It had been days since Louis had even seen his beau's smile touch his eyes, and Louis missed it. God, did he miss that shine in love's eyes whenever he stared at Louis and made him feel like he was Cameron's world. Lately, Cammy's expressions that were etched all over his face were cagey more than anything, and it made Louis' stomach twist.

Louis wished Cameron would open up to him. Spoiled for things to go back to the way they used to be.

Still and all, Louis being the best damn boyfriend he had had a need to soften that look on Cameron's face. Get his mind off whatever turmoil was stewing around in that head of his and focus on other things. To have all of his attention on Louis. Not even sparing any time as he moved to his boy's lap and wrapped an arm around his neck, loving the hand that rested upon his side. Enjoying being so close to his man.

"I think we should break in my new bed," Louis suggestively whispered in his love's ear before he started to press his lips down the side of his boyfriend's throat. "We've got the place to ourselves."

Louis nibbled and sucked at every inch of his beau's skin, aching to leave a mark. His mark. Desiring to show the world that they were okay, that they were still a thing. That Louis hadn't gone anywhere. Longing to have one on him as well, both of them decorated with each other kiss marks. But Cameron didn't like lovebites, even though he surely didn't mind leaving them littered all over Louis' collarbones and thighs. It never made much sense to Louis, but he respected it. As much as he desired to paint Cammy's skin with purple marks of his love, he was fine with whatever he was given.

"Careful." Cameron warned when Louis had sucked a little too hard just below his jaw, already rolling his bum along his boy's lap.

Determined and eager to get his boyfriend hard, Louis was feeling needy and desperate. Dying to be pushed onto the mattress and be ravished. Clothes gone and scratch marks all over with fingertip bruises. Moaning Cameron's name while they made love.

He wanted to have sex so bad.

"Cammy" Louis whined against his love's skin as he felt something hard under him, already aching all over.

God, Louis was already so fucking aroused, and they hadn't even done much yet.

Louis craved for his boyfriend's touch, to have his hands everywhere, and yet he hadn't even done that. No, he just sits there and lets Louis do all the work, making him into a whimpering needy mess.

"Fuck me."

A low groan slipped out of Cameron's mouth when Louis pressed even harder against his beau's lap. His fingers were squeezing against Louis' side.

And then he breaks his silence, making Louis' heart slam against his chest.

"You're so needy, baby," Cameron husked out. "Keep it up, and you're gonna make me come," His words had sent trails of fire through Louis' veins. "Is that what you're trying to do?"

"Maybe," Louis tried to sound as tantalizing as possible to edge his boyfriend closer. "Are you gonna do something about it?"

The mere thought of Cameron being spent had Louis nearly quivering, aching to taste him and make his love feel good. Louis would do anything.

Then Cameron lets out this low sort of animalistic growl, and then Louis suddenly pushed onto the bed, pressed down against the mattress. Bodies pressed together, and warm breath fanned along the shell of Louis' ear, his toes already started to curl at whatever came next.

God, he wanted this. Craved it. Fucking needed it.

Louis was undeniably parched and was going to take every last drop he was given. Be selfish about it and not give a damn about anything else. Take whatever he could before it was gone.

And fucking hell, the way Cameron was pressing his lips searingly down the column of Louis' throat had him in fits of breathy moans. Pleasure aches were wracking through his body that was on fire. Absolutely loving the way his darling boy could make him feel.

"So naughty." Cameron growled into Louis' ear, as he nibbled at Louis' skin.

Louis clawed and at his skin, scraping against those hard and firm muscles. Yearning to leave battle wounds of his love on every inch of his love's body.

"Only for you."

The hand that goes up Louis' top roamed freely, feeling up every inch of Louis' torso. But Louis wanted more, hungered to have both hands on him. To eat his heart over to have every single touch imprinted behind his skin to have them there forever. Knowing that he won't get to feel the touch of his boyfriend for a long while come soon.

Cameron's lips were finally on Louis, and they stayed like that for a while. Wild and hot. Tops removed and tossed somewhere, Louis didn't care. Kiss marks were littered along Louis' collarbones, and fingers were wandering to delicate places. Blindly attempting to undo each other's trousers as they snogged.

The room was hot and humid, and Cammy's skin was already tacky.

Louis was quivering all over as they painted each other's mouths. Gagging for his boyfriend to be even sweatier and what was to come. Heart palpitating and cock throbbing when Cameron broke open Louis' jeans and yanked them down.

And Louis' fingers desperately worked on getting his boyfriend out of his trousers, whimpering behind their kisses. Already craving for his boyfriend dick, wanting to touch and put his mouth on it. To taste it before it was inside him.

For fuck sake, Louis needed to get these offending tight jeans off his boy already!

By the time they were both in their pants, Louis shoved his hand down between their bodies and palmed his man. Rubbed firmly as they kissed, his whole body was ablaze. Ears roaring at the way Cameron moaned into his mouth and he's gotten fingers pulling at his hair. The warm palm that rested against his bare chest slid down to Louis' boxers and pulled them down a bit.

Then Cameron broke their snog once more, trailing concupiscence kisses down Louis' body as he pushed Louis' hand away.

"Cammy." Louis mewled, hating it that he couldn't feel his love's cock. He wanted it so bad.

Cameron's fingers disappeared from Louis' hair and were suddenly hooked into the elastic of his pants, pulling them down Louis' legs. Louis' own hard-on was leaking and twitching, begging to be touched.

Louis gnawed on his nether lip as he watched his boyfriend's dick sprang free when he stripped off his boxers. Legs shaking ever so slightly when Cameron hastily flips them around, so Louis was straddling him. Then there were hands on Louis' arse giving it a squeeze as he went back to marking up Louis' chest.

Ugh, Louis was in heaven.

Having all of himself in boyfriends hands was everything Louis wanted at this moment as he had Cameron's mouth on him. Feeling twitchy and hot.

Ensuingly, Cameron had stopped decorating Louis' chest, and it should've been criminal. Louis wanted a mosaic of those lovely bruises everywhere, yet Cammy was staring up at him with hungry eyes with pupils blown wide. Giving Louis' bum a hard squeeze.

Cameron then said, " Do you wanna ride my-"

A loud thud had reached Louis' ears that echoed through the flat, and it didn't happen once or twice. No, more like thrice and Louis wanted whoever it was to fuck off, he wanted to get off. But of course, someone wanted to be a pain in Louis' side and ruin their time alone. Being utterly annoying.

And before Louis could ask Cameron to finish whatever was about to request, the knocks didn't stop.

Fucking hell, can't they leave?

Louis glanced towards the infuriating interruption, wondering who in the hell it could even be. Liam had told Louis that no one should bother them and that he won't be back till later tonight. So fuck whoever that dickhead was. Liam wasn't home.

"Baby, just ignore it," Cameron insisted as he wrapped one of his lips around Louis' nipple, making Louis feel it tingle all the way down to his toes.

Louis softly moaned at that, shivering at the way his boy pressed his hard cock against his bum. Knowing full well that he was already driving Louis mad, that all this teasing was making Louis ache with need.

But the knocks never stop, and Louis can't focus. Can't enjoy the touches or kisses. Can't take in his boyfriend was about to make love to him because that stubborn jackass won't buzz off.

Fuck it, fuck it all. Louis wanted it to stop.

Louis reluctantly crawled off his beau and slipped into his jeans, adjusting himself a bit, so it wasn't obvious he hadn't just been in bed with someone. No need to show anything off.

"And where are you going?" Cameron asked irritation was laced in it.

Louis whimpered as he watched the way Cammy touched himself, and that made Louis feel even moodier over the whole thing. Cameron was making Louis' knees weak, and he knew Louis loved to watch him pleasure himself.
But Louis swallowed and ripped his eyes away from Cameron's hand to his flushed face. Trying so damn hard not to come in his jeans.

"Gonna go shoo away the pest." Louis reached for his shirt but decided against it last minute. It'd just be in the way when he came back.

"Don't take too long or I'll finish without you."

Sadly, Cameron would.

Louis pouted a bit at that and stifled back a mewl when he gave a passing glance towards the one thing he desired before he turned on his heels and fled the area.

This numbskull seriously needed to fuck off.

And Louis was going to make this short and sweet, tell whoever it was Liam wasn't here and to check back later. Leave a message or whatever.

But when Louis goes to open the door without hesitancy, he wasn't sure what he had been expecting, but Louis didn't think he'd be greeted with a dimpled grin and warm eyes. Tall, very tall bloke with a head full of curls with something in his manicured hands.

Everything in Louis wanted to hate him, despise this bastard for his persistence, yet all he could do was slightly smile.

"Can I help you?"

The bloke stared at Louis unblinkingly for a second, his green eyes searched Louis' face and then downward. Then he cleared his throat as he snapped his gaze back up, his face still beaming brightly as if he were one of the happiest person alive standing in front of a wrecked mess.

"I don't mean to be a bother, but a little birdie told me that there would be a new tenant," the willowy man spoke joyously, despite the deepness in his tone. It made Louis nearly cringe over how someone could be so jubilant.

Louis had an inkling that this guy was probably one of those people that were always so optimistic and positive. Never having a bad day in their life. Louis had always envied those people.

"And I wanted to be a friendly neighbour that brought a gift of welcome."

Louis raised a brow, wondering what this present supposedly was and why out of all the time in the day he chose now to come and pester Louis?

A curious thought went through Louis' mind, wondering if this man was mates with Liam. Like surely they had to be at least close since it was reasonably obvious Liam had to have told the man.

"Here." The bloke said, his eyes crinkle and dimple still there while holding a small black box out toward Louis.

Louis stared at if for a long moment before he took it, noticing it had a bit of weight to it. Louis couldn't help but wonder what it was, was it a rock? One of those fancy painted rocks? A collection of pebbles that his nan used to fill vases with for a decorative touch?

Surely it had to be something.

"Um.. thank you, uh?"

"Harry, Harry Styles," The man chirps, hands now behind his back and standing a little taller. "And you must be the infamous Louis Tomlinson?"

So Liam and Harry were friends, apparently.

Funny thing is, Liam had never mentioned to Louis anything about a Harry Styles since he moved here years ago. Actually, the only name that had ever even come out of his mate's mouth was Zack or whatever, Louis couldn't recall.

"I take it your best buddies with Liam then?" Louis decided to play detective here, curious to figure things out.

Harry nodded. "Yeah, we're pretty close," hmm, just what Louis thought. " Neighbors actually, live right across the corridor," Harry gestured to the door that was merely a few inches away.

Louis was going to make his mission to figure out who else Liam's mates were in this city. Who his best mate spent his nights with when he wasn't being a gym rat because surely Louis had no idea, he's been left out in the cold. Not only because Louis was curious by nature to see what was so great about Manchester, but because it'd be nice to a group of friends too. It'd be a nice distraction for sure; hopefully, Liam's buddies would like him.

Pfff... yeah right, they'll love Louis, everyone does. He's everyone's favourite and could get on with just about anyone. So charming the pants off all Liam's confidants would be a piece of cake.

"Also I wanted to apologize about earlier, I didn't mean to cause any trouble," Harry's smile faltered. "I would've stopped to help, but had an emergency come up."

Oh... so that's who bumped into Louis earlier.

Harry so far was a far cry from who Louis initially thought he'd be, arrogant and selfish only caring about themselves.

"Oh, don't worry about that, Love, it's not a massive deal," Louis dismissed, lying through his teeth. Harry was actually rather lovely and actually expressed regret, so of course, he's forgiven. Not because he's incredibly fit or anything.

The corners of Harry's lips quirked up once again, bringing the shine back to his face. It made Louis feel a bit better inside.

"Bit clumsy myself sometimes."

What a fucking lie that was, but Louis's mouth had betrayed him as per usual because he's an idiot. A damn fool.

"Looks like we have something in common then, being clodhoppers and all." Harry quipped, chuckling at his own brilliance, arm now slack at his side. Louis was definitely not endeared by his laughter.

"Suppose so." Louis replied pleasantly, clutching the box in his hand a little harder.

Silence filled the space between them and Louis knew this was the part when he gives Harry his thanks for the gift and goes back to his boyfriend. Yet... something in Louis craved a little bit more of Harry's attention, you know because he's one of Liam's mates after all. Harry's bound to be a constant factor in his life for the next nine months so he may as well play nice. Also, Louis really didn't want to start off on the wrong foot and everyone got a bad impression of him because he's a horny bastard that wanted to get his rocks off.

Before Louis could even come up with something to say to get conversation flowing between them, Harry had already beaten him to the punch.

"So, Liam told me that... oh... I didn't-"

Louis furrowed his brows wondering why all of a sudden, Harry's words died on his lips until he felt an ever so gentle pressure against the curve of his arse.

"Baby, what's taking you so long?" Cameron snarked. "And who's this?"

"Cammy-"

"Just stopping by to give Louis a warm welcome to the building is all," Harry explained, Louis could see him swallow. "The name's Harry, by the way, fellow neighbour of there's." and then Harry extended his hand towards Cameron.

But in the seconds that follow Cammy never touches the proffered gesture and Louis noticed the slight falter on Harry's lips with wide eyes. Louis felt awful when Harry ended up dropping his hand at his side because Cameron wasn't up for salutation.

Well.. Louis kind of had a bad feeling his reputation was about to be tarnished.

"Cameron, Louis' boyfriend."

Louis stifled a gasp when the palm that was once resting above his arse slid down under the waistband of his trousers. Nibbled on his nether lip at the way Cammy squeezed at his bum and rested it there right in front of his fucking neighbour. Heat inched to Louis; cheeks because clearly his boyfriend had no shame and didn't give aa shit if Harry could see.

"Right... anyway I don't wanna keep you from your boyfriend, so I'm gonna go," Harry said simply, already taking a step back. "I guess I'll see you around." giving Louis a wink before he turned on his heels and went into the door right across from them.

Granted, Louis adored Cameron to the moon and back he was quite upset. Not because he had been interrupted, but more so on how his boy acted. Being utterly rude and touching Louis so intimately in front of a stranger. Louis' fucking neighbor. Liam's mate. Sure, Louis loved himself a little bit of PDA every now and again, but there were boundaries.

And Cameron pushed them too far.

"Come on, Lou."

The palm that was once resting on his bum slipped out of his trouser and was clasped around his dainty wrist. Already pulling Louis towards the bedroom once the door closed, but Louis stood his ground.

He wasn't about to let this pass them by, Louis needed to say something.

"Cammy, that wasn't okay," Louis scolded, face pulled into a grimace as he set the small box onto one of the end tables near the settee. "What if he saw?"

Cameron faced Louis and rolled his eyes before he jeered, "So? At least he knows you're spoken for."

A frown touched the corners of Louis' lips, not loving the fact that his guy was being so fucking selfish and not even considering Louis' feelings. That maybe Louis didn't want to put their sex life on display as minor as it was, to grab Louis where he desired in front of others. It bothered Louis, he hated it when his boyfriend did that shit.

"I saw the way he was trying to chat you up."

"He was being nice."

Louis was getting a little bit irritated that they were going to even bicker over this bullshit because what his boyfriend saw was definitely not flirting. It was civil and polite, nothing else.

"I know what I saw, so why are you defending him?" Cameron retorted, brows pulled into a hard line. Nostrils flared, and jaw clenched.

Great, now Cameron was upset.

What more could possibly go wrong for Louis?

"Because you're being jealous for no bloody reason," Louis snarked back. He hated this so much. "And I don't see what's so bad about him stopping by to be a decent person."

Cameron looked down, and a heavy sigh fell from his lips, the once stoney expression softened as he met Louis' eyes after a long while. Then he stated in a much more subdued tone, "Suppose I'm just a little on edge about not having you back at home anymore."

Louis' heart warmed as he took a step closer, closing the distance between them as he brought his hand up to his love's cheek and caressed his thumb along Cameron's smooth skin. Wanting to soak in the moment and reassure Cameron that no matter what, distance or not, he wasn't going anywhere.

"Just because I'll be here doesn't mean I'm gonna run off with some guy I just met. I would never do that." Louis' tone was gentle and reaffirming. "I love you, and have for the past six years. Nothing will ever change that."

Louis leaned in a touch closer, aching to feel close to him and relaxed against the warm palm that rested on the small of his back, the fingers that slowly slid against his skin. Louis loved the sweet affection his beau was giving to him.

God, he loved this boy so much.

"Guess I was kind of being a dick," Cameron uttered as he pushed some of Louis' fringe off his forehead. "Sorry about that."

"It's okay, Cammy." Louis just wanted to stop chatting about it and move on, go back to what they were doing before they'd gotten interrupted. Yearning to feel the burning press of Cameron's lips on his skin and hands everywhere.

They shared a peck on the lips before Louis dropped his hand from his love's cheek and reached for his boyfriend's. Finger intertwined, and Louis was already being led back to his room.

"I'm gonna make you feel good, babe."

And then Louis was pulled into his bedroom with the door kicked shut behind them.

***

Later, Liam had finally decided to make his grand appearance when Louis stepped foot out of his bedroom donned in his comfiest attire: tank top and shorts. It was blistering hot in this shitty flat and Louis couldn't bear to wear jeans or anything with sleeves. Wasn't in the mood for restricting clothes either. He was hungry and thirsty, just needing something to tie him over.

"So are you already settled then?" Liam asked as he put his holdall onto the kitchen table, sifting his fingers through his wet hair. He must've just showered.

Louis nodded as he made his way over towards the cupboard and got himself a glass, he could feel the weight of Liam's gaze on him as he turned on the tap. Louis wasn't about to tell Liam he hadn't gotten around to unpacking his things entirely or that he'd broken in his new bed already because he had no reason to. Louis didn't need to explain himself.

"If you call it that, sure." Louis muttered out before he took a sip of his water, moving to face his mate and leaned against the counter.

They share a long, quiet moment, and Louis felt a bit uncomfortable, not liking the lingerings of it. Hated that questionable look shimmering Liam's eyes and staring at Louis so intently. Louis didn't want to be right, he wanted to be wrong about whatever was brewing in his friends head.

God, he hoped so.

Eventually, Liam cracks and Louis' fingers tighten against the glass.

"And where's Cameron then?"

Louis had an urge to roll his eyes, Liam that nosey bastard probably thought the worst, and that's what Louis had hoped not to happen. Fucking great.

"Went to go get some takeaway, he'll be back soon."

Neither of them felt up to going out to dinner, and they both surely weren't in the mood to cook. Not to mention Liam didn't have shit, everything was practically a meal prepped keto diet. Yeah, Louiswans;t interested in that crap. Cameron so kindly offered to get them something, and Louis was thankful for it, even though a small part of him kind of wanted to tag along for the ride. Yet, when Cameron had kissed Louis on the lips and told him he'd be back soon, Louis never got his chance to ask.

And you know Louis usually wouldn't mind if they ventured off on their own to get some food, but this was different. Louis' gonna be staying out here for a long time, and all he desired was to spend as much time as possible. To have every chance, they get to squeeze in whatever they could get because who knows when the next time will be.

"Has he been gone a while?"

"No." Louis lied and took another sip of his water.

Liam needed to buzz off and leave Louis the hell alone, he didn't want to keep being interrogated like this. Cameron had left a little over an hour ago and had yet to reach out to Louis. Which okay, maybe he got held up in coming home from work traffic or the restaurant messed up their food and to redo it. Perhaps he ran into someone he knew, there could be many reasons why his beau hadn't been back just yet. It wasn't a huge deal.

Last thing Louis needed was to have Liam start having concerning thoughts.

"Can't wait for him to come back though, I'm so hungry." Louis said easily, setting his drink on the counter and crossed his arms.

Liam sighed and didn't say anything for a few beats until he finally did. "Well, if anything there's stuff here to snack on if it's too much longer." Louis' heart clenched at that, squeezing his arms tighter against his chest. "But as much as I'd like to catch up and stuff, I'm absolutely knackered, Lou. Had such a long day and all I wanna do is go lay down. My feet hurt."

Thank fucking god, Louis couldn't take this anymore.

Louis loved Liam dearly and thought so highly of him, but he was sick of this. Tired of this conversation and its entirety.

And Louis knows, he fucking knows how long of a day it's been. It may have not been strenuous or back-breaking, but emotionally it was. Louis was drained.

"I swear we can do something tomorrow night," Liam commented as he grabbed his bag from the table. "If you need anything, don't hesitate to bother me."

The corners of Louis' twitched upward ever so slightly.

"I'll be okay, Li."

After Liam went to bed, Louis was left standing alone in the quietness of the kitchen. Wondering when Cameron would be back and after they're done eating that they could have a cuddle. Louis longed for it, ached to be in his love's arms before they slept the night away. Louis needed it.

Called for whatever Cameron could give him.

There was so much that Louis had on his mind. He didn't want to keep stewing in his thoughts though and went on his way back to his room. Well, that is until he slowed to a stop when he noticed that black box Harry had given to him earlier sitting on the end table.

Louis took it from the table and stared at it for a beat of a second before he opened it. He could already feel himself start to smile when he pulled out a white candle in a jar with a baby pink note attached on top of it written in the most eloquent cursive he'd ever seen. It was a lovely gesture, and Louis always appreciated a good candle, especially one that had nothing but friendly intentions behind it.

Giving it a whiff, Louis was pleased with vanilla scent, god he loved anything that had that heavenly smell. The mad had good taste.

Then when Louis set the present aside, he read the note.

New beginnings aren't supposed to be sad. Hopefully, this brings some shine to your day
~H.S.

Liam definitely had to have told Harry the reason why he came out here, it was sweet. Made Louis feel all warm inside and happy. It had been so long since he'd gotten such kind words like that from anyone, a stranger let alone. To have someone reach out and do something so thoughtful for a person they've never met before was so wholesome.

With luck, they'd run into each other again where Louis could show his gratitude.

***

Cameron never came back.

It was half-past midnight, and he hadn't responded to a single text Louis had sent him hours ago.

To say Louis was annoyed was an understatement.

You could say Louis was hurt and upset that Cammy didn't think that maybe it would've been you know, respectful to at least give Louis a heads up he wasn't coming back. Apparently, he'd rather get pissed than hangout with Louis, to let Louis know he was safe. But no, Louis was in bed all by himself as he scrolled through his socials waiting for the moment his love would reach out to him.

It fucking bothered Louis that he sat around and waited for hours on end for his boyfriend and he couldn't even get a text.

What made him angrier was when Louis had refreshed his Instagram feed, and right at the top, right fucking, there was a photo Cameron had posted minutes ago. He's out at the pub surrounded by revellers, drinking and having the time of his life. Louis should be there next to his boy, not those strangers that didn't mean shit to Cameron. They're supposed to be spending time together, Cameron had promised, and it pangs at Louis' heart.

This wasn't the first time it'd ever happen, god, no.

Over the past few years, it's happened on a few occasions like: One time Louis had been ill, and Cameron had decided to be a sweetheart and go to the market to get him some soup, but he never came back until wee hours in the morning absolutely shitfaced. Another time was when they were at Jay's for Louis' birthday and Cameron claimed he had forgotten Louis' present back at his (they weren't living together at the time yet) and guess what? He didn't come back. There were so many more instances, and Louis never liked to think about it.

Not like they always have to spend time together anyway...

Louis pressed his hand against his face and let out a frustrated sigh. He really wasn't up for being disappointed, but he knew he needed to try and ring Cameron. At least do it one more time before tossing his mobile onto the nightstand.

And he did, but it didn't ring for more than five seconds before it was sent to voicemail.

Right. Cameron basically said "fuck you", and Louis' heart deflated.

Louis was done. So fucking over it all and just wanted to sleep this night away. Maybe tomorrow would be better.

So with that, Louis put his phone on the charger, turned off the lamp, and moved to face the wall. Trying his hardest to not think so much, but it's hard. So fucking hard the longer he's in his thoughts because the irritation was just looming around in his head, about being ignored and that staying here in Manchester might've been a mistake.

Afraid he was going to lose everything and that being here won't salvage anything. It terrified him that Cameron would give up on him. On them.

Louis knew he shouldn't think so negatively after everything had been said and done because he knew it'd be worth it. They needed this more than anything right now if they wanted to save whatever they had left. That if he dared went back any sooner then nothing would change and it'd be the same cycle over and over.

As hard as it may be, it was for the best.

Just... Louis wished Cameron would've been a little more supportive and present.

But what could he do?

Right as Louis' eyes started to feel heavy and slowly succumb to slumber, he was shocked to life when the bedroom door slammed shut all of a sudden. Slurred curse words fell from Cameron's lips as he bumped into something, Louis didn't know, but he knew it was him. Especially when not too long after the spot beside him dipped and he could smell the alcohol wafting all around him, it made his stomach churn.

"Fucking hell, this bed is too damn small." Cameron grumbled as he situated himself behind Louis, huffing and puffing. The blanket they shared kept moving the bed squeaking with every little movement his boy made.

They were practically spooning at this point, and as much as Louis would've loved this, he was mad. Still bothered and did not want to talk with his boy. Wasn't in the mood to argue with someone that was clearly sloshed. All Louis wanted to do was sleep.

Cameron couldn't stop moving, and his remarks never ended, oh god no. "It's too fucking hot," and "There's literally no room." were the ones that irked Louis the most. Made him feel not so good inside, but he didn't say a word and hoped Cammy thought he was asleep.

Next came a low growl and the body beside him was no longer there, and Cameron muttered out bitterly, "fuck this, gonna sleep on the damn floor."

Louis frowned and pulled the blanket a little closer to his chest.

Altho Louis was still upset over everything that happened, he wanted his boy right next to him. Just wanted to feel close to him, for his beau to suck it up and be there. Lay with him and be grateful.

Cameron never crawled back into bed as time went on, and Louis laid there trying to hold himself together.

***

Come morning, Louis had been shaken awake, blinking the sleep from his eyes as he took a moment to gather himself before he sat up. Shivered at the coolness that brushed against his skin and sighing softly when his boy was sat beside him looking all gussied up for the day.

Louis felt like he hadn't enough sleep, hell, he didn't even know what time it was. But the bleak sunshine that peeked through the blinds indicated it was morning.

"What, Cammy?" Louis tiredly asked as he scratched at his scruffy cheek, yawn falling from his lips.

Maybe this was the part when Cameron would say he's sorry, that he didn't mean to ditch. To ignore all of Louis' messages and calls. That he'd make it up and they could go for some breakfast. Anything to appease Louis so they could enjoy the day with one another.

It's what Louis should be given after all.

And Louis wanted it.

Cameron rubbed the back of his neck and then reached for Louis' hand, giving it a gentle squeeze. His beautiful hazel eyes had a glimmer of guilt in them.

"I gotta leave."

And Louis blinked because what?

"I know I promised-"

"What do you mean you gotta leave?"

Cameron had dark circles under his eyes, and he no longer reeked of inebriated tendencies. He must've showered.

"Got called in, can't stay." Cameron said easily, like it was no big deal on his part.

Louis' heart sank, they were supposed to be spending time together, Cameron promised. Three days of them getting in as much time as they could. He gave Louis his word that he wouldn't go anywhere and now he's breaking that because of some shit job? Louis wanted to cry, to sob for his boyfriend that it wasn't fair. They had these plans for days, and he knew how much it meant to Louis that he was here.

Yeah, Louis knew Cammy never liked to tell his supervisor no when it came to picking up an extra shift or a chance to earn a bit more money. He loved being a cab driver, and for as long as they've been together it'd been his beau's life. Not only that, but it wasn't Louis' place to say whether or not his boyfriend could go off and work, that'd be incredibly selfish, but he will admit a part of him wished he could.

If Louis could, he'd ask his love to stay because Louis needed him.

"But you promised me," Louis' voice started to crack, trying his damndest to keep himself from breaking. Not ready to mourn the loss of his boyfriend's touch and see him walk out that door. To have miles between them for who knows how long, they needed more time. "You told me you'd be here."

"And I am," Cameron countered, his expression hardened ever so slightly. "But things change, and they're short-handed right now. It looks better on me if I go."

Louis' eyes fell to their hands, wetness started to pool in the corner of his eyes, and he tried to blink it away. He didn't want Cammy to see him get emotional, especially not at a time like this.

A lump formed in the back of Louis' throat when he felt the tender caress of his boy's thumb soothingly slid along the back of his hand.

"I promise I'll give you a ring later, baby," Louis hoped Cameron would hold on to that, he truly did. "We can facetime if you like?"

Louis would rather be able to physically touch his boyfriend, but he doesn't bother to say it aloud because what was even the point? Cameron won't stay, he'll leave regardless.

"Maybe we can have a little bit of fun too." Cameron suggestively cooed out, but it didn't make Louis feel any bit better.

Here's the thing, Louis didn't want them to have late-night chats that may or may not even happen with a chance of phone sex. Louis longed to be able to touch his beau with the allotted time he was told. To cuddle and kiss his man like they were supposed to, go out and do something. Not be tethered to his mobile all night missing his other half.

God knows if Cameron would even keep this promise too.

Louis' heart cried at the loss of his boyfriend's hand, fluttering his tired eyes closed for a moment until he felt a featherlight touch against his chin. Fighting back everything when he's made to gaze towards his love's face.

"Next time I come visit, or when you come home for a bit, I'll make it up to you," Cameron crooned, pressing a chaste kiss on Louis' lips. "If you ever miss me too much, you can always come back to me."

Louis' heart warmed a bit, Cameron always knew what to say to make things a little less painful. Even in the hardest times throughout their relationship, he'd always find a way to comfort Louis. Even when they had broken up, Cameron had always come back to him and fixed things.

This wasn't a break from their relationship or them ending things, this was a whole different problem. They're not going to be living together anymore for a while, nine whole months to exact. Sure it may seem rather excessive for such a long time, but it made the most sense to Louis. The longer they were apart, the more they'd miss each other, and things would be better. The distance may not be far, but it still was a challenge for them.
Louis would miss his sweet, darling boy, regardless.

"Any chance of coming back tonight?" Louis knew there was a chance of being shot down, but he tried. Cameron was supposed to have tomorrow off anyway, and it wasn't too much to ask for.

Cammy shook his head shamefully, and Louis should've known better to even ask.

"Can't. Have to cover tomorrow as well." Cameron's words were remorseful and his face soft. "Like I said, I'll call you tonight."

Louis didn't want that.

"Okay." Louis whispered out, his ribs felt tight and restricting. He hated this.

Silence took over for a long while between them and Louis searched his beau's face, a wave of sadness and disappointment coursing through him when Cameron finally leaned in and gave him one last kiss. Then he was off the bed with a ghost of a smile on his lips as he stared down at Louis.

"Love you." Cameron murmured before he grabbed his overnight back and gave Louis one last long look before he walked out, closing the door behind him.

Louis already missed him.

***

It was noon, and Louis' day hadn't gotten any better.

Falling in and out of sleep, sporadically checking his mobile in case he'd gotten a text or something interesting happened on his socials. Undoubtedly it was a waste of time, and at one point Louis finally turned his phone off silent. Eventually got around to watch his favourite film ever: A Walk On The Moon, but Louis barely made it halfway through before he shut it off.

The flat was quiet, and Louis suspected Liam must've gone out for the day already, he probably went to the gym. So that left no one to talk to, none of Louis' mates back home answered any of his texts, well okay maybe Austin did, but he basically told Louis to fuck off because he was busy. It wasn't as rude, but the point still stands. Couldn't pester Cameron either because he's off working, and Louis was confident Jay was too. Not even going to attempt to reach out to his siblings either, they probably had better things to do. Louis was left to fend for himself, and it was boring. So fucking lonesome with nothing to do. He doesn't start his new job in a few days, and Liam practically had nothing to do in this place. No video games or any good food to eat. There was a laptop, but Louis had his own anyway, but he wasn't up to busting it out only to put it back five minutes later because he lost interest quickly.

Should Louis be surprised, though?

Liam had never been one of those gamers and Louis really should've thought this through and brought his PS4. Maybe next time Cammy comes for a visit, he'll ask his boyfriend to do that for him, and hopefully, that wouldn't be too long from now.

At one point Louis finally left his bed, not bothering to change out of his pyjamas or fix the messy mop on his head. Went straight to the kitchen to find a tasty snack to munch on, something he could bring back to his room and try the whole film thing again. Because what else was he going to do?

It was when Louis had been in the middle of making some toast when the sounds of a door closed and Liam came waltzing into the kitchen. Shirt soaked down the chest and skin glistening, he must've gotten back from a run.

Louis should've guessed.

"Hey, Lou," Liam breathed out, sliding down into one of the dining chairs. Wiped at his forehead and took a swell from his nearly empty water bottle. "Finally made it out of bed for the day?"

"I didn't sleep last night," well it wasn't a lie, but he wasn't about to tell why though. "So fuck off."

Liam snickered and shook his head, arm rested on the table and finger tapped along the grain. He was staring at Louis heavily, and it started to make Louis' sweat.

Maybe Liam won't mention it... or notice it. Perhaps he had something to tell Louis that had literally nothing to do about-

"Where's Cameron?"

Fuck.

Louis had no clue what to say, what lie he could possibly make up, so he isn't on the receiving end of snide remarks. Liam was bound to go off and make illicit comments regarding his boyfriend's absence, he just knew it. For as long as Louis had known the lad, he was never too fearful of giving Louis an earful when it came to certain people in Louis' life.

But Louis knew Liam was too smart for his own good and would find out the truth regardless.

"Something came up, you know, work stuff." Louis said nonchalantly as his gaze fell to the toaster, swallowing hard.

"Is that so?"

Louis nodded, still not meeting his mate's eyes, afraid that if he stared at his friend, he might share too much. He didn't want to have any speeches right now, just wanted Liam to drop it.

A lingering quietness followed them until the toaster popped and Louis, while he set his crisped bread onto a plate, felt anxious. Even when he slathered on a bit of butter, he couldn't help the slight tremble in his fingers and prayed that Liam wouldn't notice.

"Wasn't he supposed to-"

"Yes Liam, he was, but something came up like I just told you." Louis snapped, his eyes back on his best mate. Brows pulled into a hard line. "Stuff happens, alright?"

"Sheesh, no need to get so snippy, Lou," Liam scolded, shaking his head while Louis went to sit across from his friend, taking a bit of his toast. "Just curious though, when did he leave?"

Louis nibbled at his bread, not in the mood to deal with this whatsoever. No one needed to know that Cameron left in the early morning hours or that it had sprung on Louis at the last minute before his boyfriend walked out the door. Hell no. Liam would just give his unsolicited advice (which he's heard many times over the years) that Louis was in no mood to receive.

"This morning." It was brief, and all Louis was willing to give.

Liam rubbed at his lips, he looked to be thinking quickly before he inquired, "So that means you're free then? Tonight I mean?"

Unfortunately, he was.

"What do you think?" Louis jeered, taking another pitiful bite. He hated this, loathed it so fucking much because Louis didn't want this. He was supposed to have plans with his guy where they went out and explored, but now all he's gotten is a phone date with his beau sometime or later tonight.

"My god, Louis you get so sensitive sometimes," Liam complained, arms folded against his chest with a stern look etched all over his features. "No need to but my head off."

Was Louis being a dick on purpose? No. He was enervated over the whole mess of events since he's arrived. Poor Liam hadn't a clue, and sure Louis feels bad for acting like a prick, but he's tired. So damn exhausted over it all. Louis was trying to go on about his day and not think of it.

But easier said than done when you have a best mate like was nosey as ever.

"Well, I was going to ask if you wanted to go out to the pub tonight and meet the boys," Liam mentioned, sounding almost hopeful that Louis would go. "I mean you don't have to come if you're having a bad day, but since Cam-"

"I'll go."

Liam cocked a brow. "Are you sure?"

Louis nodded without hesitancy, maybe getting out of the flat for a bit would clear his head. Also, Louis was anxious and eager to meet the rest of Liam's clan, hopeful that it'd perk his mood up. He's confident that Harry guy would be there since he and Liam are such good friends and all. At least there was one person Louis could see himself befriending so far, the man was charming no doubt, and Louis was curious to know more. But other than getting to know their neighbour, Louis wanted to know the others. Fingers crossed for success.

"I mean we haven't had a proper lads night in what? Years?" Louis asked, no longer touching his toast, his appetite was no longer there. "I'm dying to get out of this place. See what's so special about these mates of yours, see if they pass my test."

Liam rolled his eyes. "I'm sure you'll get on with them just fine."

"And you know that for a fact? I have no idea what any of these guys are like. Who knows what I'm walking into. They could be a bunch of snobs for all I know."

"Guess again, dodo."

Louis glared. "Fuck off, Liam."

Liam snickered, the corners of his lips slid upward. "You know they'll love you, everyone does."

"I know." Louis quipped with a smirk, already feeling a hint of excitement coiling in his belly over the festivities later. A beer did sound nice and then afterwards when all is said and done he'd be in bed on the line with Cammy.

It sounded perfect.

Louis was looking forward to what the night had in store.

Until then, Louis had spent time with Liam who shockingly didn't ditch him for the gym, and Louis had a sneaking suspicion his friend was worried about him. Doing whatever he could to lift Louis' spirits and not be so in his head over things. Altho, Louis had wanted to spend some long-overdue quality time with his best pal. They mostly binged watched some reality shows and lounged on the sofa, and Liam at some point gave Louis a rundown on his friends. There was Niall who actually had gotten Louis into a job at the pub he worked for thanks to Liam. He's engaged and does part-time help at his fiancee's family's business. Also throwing that he's Irish as well. Next came Zayn who not only was a tattoo artist but he was also in a band. Told Louis he had actually met Zayn on the same night as Niall, they had actually approached him and chatted the night away. According to Niall, they were looking to make some new friends, and Liam seemed nice. Long story short after many parties and hanging out with them, they became close. Yet, Louis couldn't help but notice the slight smirk that rested on Liam's face as he talked about the man, but Louis didn't think too much of it. Liam was probably excited that his social circle was finally coming together.

And lastly, there was Harry, who's a pet groomer that works alongside his sister and mum for their family business thus leading to Louis finding out Niall is going to wed Gemma (Harry's sister). That's how Liam had actually met Harry, through Niall who eventually moved across the hall from him. Other than that, Harry was also in the band with Zayn and the youngest of the group.

It was all quite a lot to process and a lot of names and details to remember. Hell, Louis hoped he wouldn't get it mixed up later or forget. Last thing he needed was to make a bad impression on these blokes.

For the next nine months of his life, this was going to Louis' new normal. This flat, Liam, and all the people that were his mates, everything.

Who wouldn't want to start off on the right foot?

Yes, Louis was a bit nerved up over it and unsure what to expect as the days pass, but he's gonna try not to be so negative. Do everything in his power not to be so consumed over his relationship struggles and try to make the most out of this experience.

All Louis coveted for was some normalcy.

When the time came to get all gussied up for their evening out, Louis hopped in the shower. He didn't feel up to shaving nor fussing with his har, just let it lay soft. Not bothering to wear anything fancy and went the more casual route: black fitted trousers and a white shirt. Not like he was trying to pull anyone to tonight and woo them with his best dress. He had no one to impress.

Once Louis slipped on his trainers, he checked his mobile, eager to see if he had anything waiting for him. Cameron had sent him a text earlier saying:

'Wish I was there x'

And Louis had responded, excited to finally chat with his man as he thought maybe Cammy had gotten off work early. Dying to have any sort of communication and hear about his day as he normally did.

Yet... nothing.

No messages or calls, not even a Facebook message. Louis had a feeling that possibly Cammy had taken a nap as he had a rough night prior, and it made the most sense. It wasn't a massive deal, they'll have tonight.

Louis counted on his boyfriend was okay.

Pocketing his phone, Louis left the room and made his way towards the living area. Exuberant that he was getting out of his hell hole for a while to go let loose. Getting pissed and making new pals, not being bored out his skull staring at the wall. Not only that, but it'd be nice to spend even more time with Liam just like the old days before his mate left.

"Ready to head out?" Liam asked, smoothing out his top in the mirror by the landing of the entryway.

Louis smirked. Liam and his primping, Louis knew his game and what he was trying to do. It wasn't just Liam smoothing out any imperfection because he was fussy when it came to his appearance. God no the musclebound lad never wore anything other than athleisure. Liam that bastard was in jeans, actual fucking jeans. Also, it's worth mentioning, the man reeked of a leathery scent, and it had to have been his special cologne. The one that only made an appearance on hols and conquests. Louis was gonna fuck with him.

"For fuck sakes, it reeks in here!" Louis scolded, pinching at his nose for faux-disgust as he watched his mate, wanting to chuckle when he saw Liam glaring at him in the reflection. "You better hope I don't get permanent lung damage."

Crazy how much he missed this, messing with Liam and nearly forgetting how sensitive his friend could be sometimes. Never will ill intent though, Louis loved the man dearly and would never intentionally hurt him. It was all fun and games, really.

And Louis continued to be a brat, tapping his foot impatiently against the ground with his arm crossed. Pulling his face into faux-displeasure and let out a long dramatic sigh.

"Are you almost done?"

Liam flipped Louis off and didn't say a word. Arsehole.

Five minutes later, they finally were heading out, and Louis couldn't wait to see what was in store. Surely Liam was going to be a fun one to watch, see him pull and try to find someone to bring back for the night. It'd bound to be interesting for sure, it always was. Flexing and showing off his muscular arms and using witty chat up lines. Doing anything he possibly could to impress his conquest of the night.

But you know, Liam's never been coy when it came to one night stands in the past, not that he didn't appreciate a real relationship. But the man had gotten his heart broken a few years back thanks to his dickhead of an ex-boyfriend that couldn't keep it in his pants, Liam had refused to date. Told anyone that wanted to set him up to not even bother as he wasn't interested. Heartache wasn't worth it. Only desiring the single life and seeing what was out there meant: finding himself meaningless shags every Saturday night and never seeing them again come morning.

It's not that Louis didn't want the best for his friend, of course, he did. Liam was one of the greatest people Louis knew; he's loyal, undeniably generous, understanding, and so many other things. He's the perfect catch, and Louis hoped one day, his best mate would find his person. However long it takes, Louis was counting on the stars for his friend.

They had decided to walk to the pub as it wasn't very far and it was beautiful out. Neither of them were up for waiting around for a cab, and Liam sure as hell wasn't going to drive, especially if he decided to drink. Same goes for Louis too.

And by the time they reached the pub while travelling on foot, Liam once again gave Louis a briefing on his mates. Louis appreciated it, he truly did because he sort of already forgot a few things. Louis couldn't wait to drink though, eager to escape the slight chill in the air and let loose. Keep himself preoccupied and make some new friends. Make memories out of it.

Louis followed behind his mate through the slew of inebriated revellers, Liam was leading them towards a dark corner of the pub. To a table where Louis' eyes honed in on that dimple and artfully tousled curls, lissome hand wrapped around his drink. Then Louis noticed the lad beside Harry, bristly chin and brunet quiff, eye crinkled at the corners as he slapped the table, doubled over with mirth.

They were both draining their beers and enjoying each other's company. But, wasn't there supposed to be three of them, though?

Then it doesn't matter because Liam's sliding down in his seat across from the glowy mystery man thus leaving the only other across from Harry. Louis was thankful that he'd already been acquainted with him, you know in case the other guy ended up not taking a liking to Louis, vice versa.

"Where's Zayn?" is the first thing Liam blurted out when Louis slid down into his seat.

So the other must be Niall, then. Obviously.

Harry and the bloke shared a glance with one another before the one next to Harry spoke, his accent undeniably Irish.

"Couldn't make it, Eris isn't well."

Yeah, it was definitely Niall.

Niall had this smuggest expression sitting on his face Louis had ever seen, arms rested on the tabletop and leaning a touch forward. Louis doesn't say a word though, because why would he? He didn't know the man very well to join in on whatever was going on here. Not to mention Louis felt a bit restless when Harry's eyes were on him.

"Oh, is everything okay?" Liam asked, sounding awfully disappointed. The glow in his eyes vanished.

"Things are good, don't ya worry about him too much, " Niall dismissed, his gaze now fixated on Louis. " I'm more interested in this guy right here, you must be Louis, right?"

"That's me." Louis beamed and leaned back in his seat, gaze flickering between the two gents.

"The name's Niall, but I'm sure Liam told you that," Niall quipped, bringing his beer to his lips and then followed with after he swallowed, "Couldn't wait to fucking meet ya! Liam always talks about ya."

"I do not."

"You do so, I mean maybe not as much as you love to talk about Za-"

Then Niall yelped, and Liam was glaring, Louis was fucking confused. What in the hell was going on here?

"Fuck off, Niall." Liam snarked, arms folded against his chest. Pout tugging at the corner of his lips like a fussy child that didn't get his way.

Harry sighed. "Would you two kiss and make up already? We didn't come here to bicker," Harry scolded them, running his fingers through his hair. "We're supposed to be having fun, remember?"

Louis simply said nothing on any of it because he didn't know what to say, nor did he really know the gist of Liam and Niall's relationship. Louis couldn't ignore it when Liam's brows furrowed, glowering at Niall. If Louis felt one hundred per cent comfortable among the lads and knew them for months now, then he'd jump in and tease Liam a bit. Do whatever he possibly could to get an answer from Liam. To learn about whatever his mate had gotten so defensive about because it had been something good, Louis just knew it.

But Louis was going to bite his tongue on it for once in his life as much as it pained him to do so, yet that doesn't mean he won't rib Liam about it later.

"Not only that but we also have a guest of honour joining us tonight, show some decency." Harry added one last time as if for good measures. Harry then stared at Louis, eye's shimmering with warmth. "Would you like a drink, hon?"

"Uh... yeah, sure." Louis was parched and could really go for something, anything at this point. He needed a buzz, whatever he could get before the night carried on. Maybe it'd speed things up to the part where Louis would be in bed, on the line with Cammy while he sobered up.

It sounded perfect.

And Louis was about to get up and fetch it himself, but Harry was faster and disappeared in the crowd. Louis, unsure what to even say or make of the conversation, sat there wordless at the mouth. Harry didn't even ask him what kind of drink he wanted.

Niall shook his head and brought his drink to his lips briefly before he asked Louis, "How're ya liking Manchester so far?"

"Eh, haven't gotten to do much yet, so far it's not so bad." Louis kind of lied, actually things have gone to shit but what Niall didn't know won't hurt him. "Still have to feel it out, give it a day or so."

Niall gave a small nod as if to show he was listening as he leaned forward in his spot, arm rested on the table. Shoulders slouched. "And Liam hadn't shown you around yet?"

Liam scratched at his cheek, silent as ever. That bastard, of course, he didn't, the man was obsessed with his job. Gym rat if you will. Louis knew for a fact that the only way Liam would tour him around the city was if hell had finally frozen over. However, Louis being the best-damn-best-mate there ever was, wasn't going to make Liam into an uncaring dick. Louis wasn't going to fib about it either.

"We've both been awfully busy to actually find the time," Louis explained, hoping it was believable. "Spent some time with my boyfriend, actually."

If Louis would've blinked, he would've missed the eye roll from his friend, not appreciating that. Especially not liking the fact Liam's jaw was clenched either. Like, Louis knew Liam had ill feelings towards Cammy leaving early, but this wasn't his battle to be dealt with. It was Louis' and Liam needed to calm down.

Niall, on the other hand, his whole face lit up at that and Louis had an inkling that Liam had told his friends about Cameron. Hopefully nothing terrible, Louis had his fingers crossed.

"What's your boy's name?" Niall inquired, sounding somewhat eager to know about Louis' love life. "And why isn't here so we could meet the lucky bastard?"

Easy, Louis could answer these questions.

"Couldn't stay, had gotten called for work, unfortunately," and that was the truth. "But I'm sure Cameron would love to meet you all."

"Who?" Harry's voice sliced through their conversation, causing Louis to nearly fall out of his chair when a beer was set in front of him. Fucking hell.

"Louis' boyfriend." Niall told him, grinning ear to ear.

"I've already met him," Harry stated, now back in his spot across from Louis with a fresh drink too. Liam and Niall both had quizzical looks etched all over their features. "Actually had stopped by your's yesterday Liam and had the pleasure of meeting Louis and his boy." Harry went on to explain, and Louis smiled, taking a sip of his drink. Pleasantly surprised that Harry had good taste, Louis loved Stella Artois. "He's... nice."

Liam never comments on any of it.

Niall, on the other hand, pressed on, "What's he like? How old is he, how long have you two been together, and how ya meet?"

Louis couldn't definitely handle this.

Naturally, Louis loved to talk about Cameron; it was his favourite topic, he adored the man. He was Louis' person, his other half. A part of Louis was quite shocked that Liam hadn't given his mates a rundown on Cameron and his history, surely he would've vented at least. Maybe Liam had forgotten? Distracted maybe?

Whatever the case, Louis was happy to share.

The corners of Louis' lips started to slide upward as he began to tell the men that Cameron was twenty-nine, so it was only a year difference in age. That his love is a cab driver and had been at it for years, they had actually met at the pub Louis worked for even though they attended the same uni. Explaining that it was his second year and Cameron would come around often to chat him up and banter with him doing whatever to get Louis' attention. But Louis played hard to get, and it was fun, keeping things interesting between them. Eventually sometime in mid-November Louis had attended a party with his mate and had been ditched half-way through the night. Leaving Louis to linger about in the back garden with his cigarette (a nasty habit he kicked a few years ago!) and they ran into one another. Cameron, that charming bastard finally got his hooks into Louis with his playful yet flirty banter. Then one thing led to another and Louis went back with Cammy to his for the night, and the rest was history.

Louis never spared any of the details of the bad times, no one needed to hear about all the breakups and relationship pauses. Only other thing he told them was that they'd been together for six years.

"Damn and here I thought me and Gem's had been together long, we've only gotten four." Niall then proceeded to ask, "So when is he coming back?"

Louis shrugged, wouldn't he love to know that. "Haven't discussed it, but hopefully soon."

"Whenever that'll be." Liam muttered under his breath, that dick.

"Well, whenever your man comes around, give me a ring, would love to make some plans." Niall sounded a little too jubilant over it. In a sense, Louis was ecstatic that at least someone wanted to make an effort and befriend his beau unlike his so-called best mate that can't keep his mouth shut. "Must suck though, being here without him."

Niall wasn't wrong, it wasn't ideal, and Louis knew he was the reasoning behind it all, but it was only temporary. Thank god.

And Louis felt his phone buzz against his thigh, and as much as he itched to reach for it, he ignored it for now. Not wanting to come off as rude, especially to potential friendships that were forming and they were dying to know anything and everything about you.

So, it can wait, as much as it pains him to do so.

"I mean we've been living together for a few years now, so it's definitely gonna take me some time getting used to it," Louis already missed his sweet, darling boy. Longed for his home. "But in the end, it'll be worth it when I go back."

Niall had a warm smile for a beat of a second before he said easily, "Suppose that's a good way of looking at it, I mean I don't wanna gas you up mate, maybe he'd pop the question if you know what I mean." Wouldn't that be lovely? "Unless you're not into that sort of thing."

Liam lets out this subdued sort of laughter before he muttered, "Yeah, right." and then he was out of his seat, vanishing in the crowd. That knobhead.

Other than Liam's pessimistic arse, Louis' heart warmed at the thought. He had always adored the idea of marriage when it came to Cameron. God, Louis loved him so much and couldn't picture a future without him. Dreamt of that perfect moment when his boyfriend would get on one knee when it's just them and no one else. Cameron telling Louis everything he loved about him and saying all the right things. A beautiful ring to pair. Louis would say yes, and then they kiss until the dusk fades to dawn.

It was something Louis had hoped for in the coming future, and he hoped for the best. Like, sure he could be the one to ask, but he just didn't want his hopes held high only to have them crashing down if Cammy wasn't ready.

Not only that, but they've never talked about it.

"I'm happy with whatever happens as long as I've got Cammy by my side," Louis replied as he brought his drink to his lips, swallowing some down, aching to reach for his phone. Then he added, "I love him more than anything and do you think it's crazy of me to miss him already?"

"Nah, I always miss my girl when she's not around," Niall reassured, leaning back in his seat with arms crossed. "So completely normal, now if you said you didn't miss him then I'd be concerned."

Louis blinked, staring openly at Niall. "What do you mean?"

"Because more than likely, it means you'd fallen out of love."

Louis' heart panged in his chest at that, he didn't want to think of something so brutal. The mere thought of Cameron or himself losing their passion for one another was awful. Just plain torture. He couldn't imagine such a thing to happen anyway, Cameron and him were fine. They'll never have to deal with that, Louis was confident. His heart was stolen by his love.

No matter what anyone says, Louis was hopeful.

Niall concluded with, "But that's a worst-case scenario, unlikely to happen. So I think you haven't gotten anything to worry about."

Harry, who had been silent on the matter, had been nursing his beer. Not that it matters anyway, why should Louis care about what some stranger thought?

Louis' happy.

Sure, Louis was quite sad inside that his boyfriend wasn't here next to him, having gentle touches and tender kisses. Both getting acquainted with new friends and having a decent time. Laughing and bantering over stupid things. Louis yearned for it, he did. Unfortunately, that's not how things went, and no matter how disappointing it was, Louis was making the best of it. Reminding himself over and over that he'll have his beau's attention later where he'll get to see his gorgeous face and hear his intoxicating husky voice.

And no one could take that away from him.

As the night carried on, conversation filtered in and out as everyone had brought something to the table why they drowned iniberations. Niall jabbered on about Gemma lovingly, going on about how he couldn't wait to marry her in August, to start a family. A lot of unpacking the Irish lad was doing, and everyone listened, then Liam went on about how single he was after that. Whining over the fact that he hadn't had a proper relationship in years, just going on about his unluckiness. Louis teased him about it, not in bad intent or anything, but to make light of the situation. Indisputably, sloshed Liam took offence and snapped at Louis when he usually never would do more than a retort or glare. Then there was Harry, that charming bastard who went on about his love for his band wholeheartedly, and something about Lifehouse

All in all, it was pleasant, and Louis felt at ease among the men, content that he had been accepted. Eager to meet the other fellow that hadn't shown up tonight, but that's okay they'll meet someday.

Still and all, Louis felt a sense of envy when Niall took the reins once more, bragging about his honeymoon. Overweening that they're going to Italy and hadn't decided on Venice or Naples. Talking about capturing pictures of all these things they wanted to, all that money they were going to spend. The massive wedding they were going to have beforehand.

If only Louis' plans next summer consisted of a trip with his beau, he'd cherish it. To go to the sea and bask in every little moment they had alone. To visit shops and landmarks in towns or cities, do anything to have a memory of it. To have that experience together. Howbeit, they've never gone away together, no holiday, or little excursions up north. Nothing. Most they ever did was stay at a hotel a few minutes from their flat to get away from reality, even if it were only for one night.

And Louis will admit, he'd wish his boyfriend wasn't so stubborn and just broke away, to change up his routine for once. For Louis. To stop going out four nights a week to get pissed with the boys and not showing up until wee hours in the morning causing a ruckus.

If only...

Louis' ears perked up when Harry started to talk about next Thursday about a gig his band was playing at in Oxford and London while he took a swill of his water. He only had one beer, Louis had noticed. Harry had the biggest grin resting on his face. He must really love it.

"Wish I could go, but me and my lovely lady got plans." Niall slurred out placidly, chugging down the rest of his pint. "Hmmm... I miss Gemma."

"I second that, well not the last part but you know what I mean," Liam added, already on his feet and catching his balance on the table. "I've got work, unfortunately."

"It's fine, not like there's not ever gonna be another show."

Louis would love to go, but for one he didn't really know Harry all the well just yet even if so far things had been going smoothly. Things can change overnight and secondly would he really be up to being the third wheel among Zayn and Harry? Yeah, he'd rather not. For all Louis knows Zayn could not like him, so it was better he kept his mouth shut. Not only that, but who knows, maybe he'll be seeing his boy.

Then Louis felt his mobile buzz against his thigh while Harry went on about taking time off work, and Louis pulled out his phone. He couldn't wait any longer. Clearly, it had to be something important. The second time in the span of hours it had gone off and Louis was anxious to see who it was. He had no means of commenting on the conversation at hand anyway, so why not.

Soon as Louis checked it, his heart shrank.

It's not him.

Louis cursed at himself, knowing he shouldn't have gotten his hopes up. He never should. Cameron was probably busy doing other things anyway, maybe holding off any sort of conversations until later on so they had things to chat about. To give each other more space, so it was exciting.

All it ended up being was stupid Instagram notifications he could give two shits about. Messages still on read and stomach in knots. Going from text to Facebook messenger (his notifications had been turned off) to see if any of his mates reached him there since his inbox was empty. They must miss him, though, right?

Austin and Dalton never gave Louis a hug goodbye or threw him a going-away party. Last time Louis even saw the boys was weeks ago, it wasn't a great encounter. Both of them showed up to Louis' work along with Cammy and practically ignored him for that damned group of girls they were obsessed with. Brushed off Louis as if they didn't think it'd affect him. Not like it hadn't happened before, they didn't give a damn about anyone other than trying to find someone to take back to there's for the night. Louis had given them the cold shoulder since, always such a moody situation when it came to the duo under certain circumstances.

Maybe Louis needed to find better friends back home.

Despite having a bitter taste over what happened long ago, nothing absolutely nothing could compare to the wretched feeling Louis had once he loaded up Instagram. Bile wanting to rise and heat spreading through his limbs when the very first thing he sees is that Cameron posted not one, but two photos. Two bloody pictures of him out at some club with his mates.

In one of them, he's got some bird with long black hair all over him and then in the other beer in his hands and arm around the same gal. Louis was enraged. Fingers nearly shaking at the hand on her hip and Cammy beaming. Surrounded by his friends and groupies, Louis wished he would've never been so bold. Never got his heart set on things that never happen. Heart racing as he read the caption that made his eyes start to mist.

Living my best life !

Louis blinked, he felt sick. So damn ill that he no longer wanted to be here at this sleazy pub and be back in bed. To hide under the covers and sleep, to forget it all. Apparently "living his best life" didn't involve Louis, didn't include his fucking boyfriend  of six years that had stuck around.

All Louis wanted to do was to go home.

And Louis, aching to do anything to lift his spirits before he walks, texted his boy in hopes he'd get something in return. Anything to soothe him.

'Can't wait for your call. Miss you x'

It was the best Louis could do, he wasn't in the mood for being too mushy or arguing, sending his love a lengthy text of how he felt. It can wait for later, if the call even happens. Louis hoped so, he had his fingers crossed on it.

Usually, Louis didn't care if Cameron hung out with his mates and had good times, they didn't need to spend every minute together. Just now that Louis wasn't back in Donny, it'd be nice to be a little more appreciated, to be a thought. To receive a response to his message soon because the least he could do was give Louis a heads up if he wouldn't be able to ring him later.

To not have Louis wait around for nothing.

Tired and over it, Louis pocketed his phone and looked up and noticed Liam and Niall were off at the billiards, leaving Harry whose expression was sympathetic and soft. Concern shimmering in his eyes, no longer drinking.

Louis swallowed.

Had Harry been watching him the entire time? Had Niall and Liam snuck off quietly? Or did he zone out in his own sorrow thoughts to not realize what had been happening around him?

So many questions were swirling around in Louis' head, but he never voices them. It wasn't important anyway, he just wanted to go.

"I think I'm gonna head on back, got a bit of a headache." it was the only excuse Lous could think of that'd be believable enough. Not rude either. Maybe when Harry tells Liam he wouldn't jump to conclusions and Louis surely wasn't in the mood to deal with Liam's drunken yet passionate lectures when it came to Louis' love life later on. "Do you think you or Niall could make sure Liam makes it back safe? He drank quite a bit."

Harry licked his lips and then said nonchalantly, "More than likely he's gonna go stay with Niall anyway, they always do when it's just the two of them."

"Oh."

"But I should start heading back as well, got an early day ahead of me," Harry explained easily, stroking his svelte fingers through his rich brown hair. "Mind if I tag along? Be nice to have some company."

Harry sounded almost a bit too hopeful as if he'd been waiting all night to get Louis alone. To have a chance to befriend him in a more intimate way. No friends or jealous boyfriends, just the two of them. Harry had been so kind to Louis and not putting his nose where it didn't belong.

So Louis tumbled to the idea that Harry wouldn't bring any of it up. Louis' falter of mood and his relationship.

It'd be nice.

"Be my guest."

After all was said and done, they vacated the area and disappeared into the sea of revellers to endure the hot summer night.

When they were on the pavement no more than halfway from their block of flats, it was nice. Quiet and serene. Hardly any cars whizzed past them down the vacant street. It was wonderful to finally escape from the masses back in that scorching pub. Eager to get into bed and hide away from the world. To sulk in peace.

Thank god they didn't live too far.

Harry had eventually broken the silence when they rounded a corner all while staring at Louis briefly, "So do you have any plans after this?"

Internally, Louis sighed because even himself wasn't so sure about that anymore.

"Cameron's supposed to ring me soon, so that'll keep me busy." Louis wasn't going to tell Harry that his boyfriend was out at some seedy club with a girl on his arm. Looking happy as ever, almost as if he didn't even miss Louis. No, absolutely not. "And you?"

"Eh, might do a bit of yoga I think before I call it a night, always winds me down." Harry said easily. When Louis gave Harry a passing glance, he noticed hands were stuffed into his pockets. That Harry's visibly swallowing before he added, "So.. I kinda get the feeling your boyfriend doesn't seem like me too much."

Louis frowned. Cameron was definitely opinionated when it came to certain men that entered Louis' life. Mostly if they either had a pretty face or a charming personality. Overly nice and flirty. Cameron had been a dick to Harry though, and there's no denying it, but Louis would never make his beau sound bad. Specifically not to someone that may become a constant in his life.

"He was in a mood when you met him," well it wasn't exactly a lie... they'd gotten interrupted. Cameron just wanted to make love to Louis, so completely understandable. "Cammy's sweet once you get to know him, he can be a bit rough around the edges at times, but I promise once you get past that tough exterior, he's a big ol' softie."

Harry goes quiet for a long moment, then they slow to a stop at the pedestrian crossing, and share a look while they wait for the go-ahead. Then he finally committed with, "Do Liam and him get along?"

Louis gnawed on his nether lip. "It took them a while I'll say to be on the same page, but they're good."

Okay, so maybe that a lie. Harry didn't need to know the truth, surely he knew absolutely nothing since he's asking. Clearly, Liam never uttered a word on his disdain towards Louis' boyfriend to his mates. Not sharing that he'd never give Cameron the time of day after what had happened 5 years ago.

Right. Cameron had claimed Liam had a thing for Louis. Making all these assumptions that all Liam was trying to do was get Louis into bed. Flirting with Louis and touching him too much, spending awfully a lot of time together. Always together and never running out of things to talk about. Louis thought Cameron fucking lost it because never, never in a million years would Louis even think of Liam in more of a platonic light. God no! They were practically siblings, brothers. Also, it's worth mentioning at the time Liam had a fucking boyfriend who he loved dearly.

Cameron and his jealousy needed to stop. Louis wouldn't ever think of leaving him or let alone cheat on him. Fuck that, Louis was loyal. Indefinitely attached to his boy.

And Louis wasn't up for another argument with Cameron, one where he basically tells Cammy if he couldn't trust him and put faith into their relationship then he could leave. It was a high-risk move, but it worked. Cameron would drop it entirely, and the rest was history.

Lastly, Liam's about done with Cammy in any sense, he's told Louis time and time again in the past that all Cameron was doing was playing mind games. Hated the way Cammy treated Louis and let him down, that he was never there. Just a bunch of false claims that Louis never appreciated.

Obviously, Cameron and Liam never mended a single thing. Whatever though, that was on them, and Louis couldn't force a friendship between them. It wasn't worth it.

Whether he liked it or not, you can't force anyone to get along, no matter how much both of them mean to you.

Then the signal on the light turned, and they started to cross, and Harry stated, "Well maybe when he comes around again I'll invite you both to a gig, you know break down those steel walls of his." Harry snickered. "I mean if he wanted to that is."

"We'd like that." Louis wasn't entirely sure about it, but it wasn't off the table completely.

Then it fell silent once more as they went on their way and neared their building a few minutes later. Louis was thankful for that because it started to sprinkle and wasn't in the mood to be drenched head to toe. All he wanted to do was to slip out of these clothes and go straight to his sanctuary. Definitely didn't want his hair fucked up in case Cameron actually calls later.

As they entered the building and got onto the creaky lift, Louis thought back to yesterday when Harry had shown up at the door. Warm smile and kind words. The lovely welcoming gift he'd given, the thoughtful note. Harry was so sweet and friendly, and apologized for what happened in the corridor hours prior. Even a day later the man was courteous and didn't rag on anyone. It intrigued Louis how long the charade would last, if there was even one at all. That Harry naturally was a wholesome person that wanted nothing but the best for everyone whether he knew them or not.

Louis had a good feeling about him.

And as they got off onto their floor and meandered towards their respected flat, Louis lightly said, "Thank you by the way."

"For what?"

"The candle and having the freakish ability to read minds," Louis quipped, chuckling at his own brilliance as they stopped by their doors. Harry now facing Louis, hands no longer stuffed into his pockets. "I happen to love vanilla."

"Suppose that won me some brownie points then?" Harry smirked.

"Guess so," Louis murmured, his heart started to tremble ever so slightly, but Louis was sure it had more so to do with his phone buzzing against his thigh. Not because of Harry.

Louis' fingers itched to reach for his phone, but he ignores it for now as he knows this is the part where they say their goodbyes and part. Yet neither of them are saying anything for a few beats of a moment. Louis noticed the slight glow in Harry's eyes and the shadow of a smile on his lips.

Louis' device went off once more and then Harry uttered out, "Suppose I should let you, sure your boyfriends waiting on you."

Louis hoped he was right.

"Yeah guess I should get to it, he's been trying to reach me." Louis lied, pulling out his key while Harry did the same. "Really wanna talk with him."

Harry's expression is soft, and the corridor was quiet. Maybe that was because they were the only ones around, and everyone else was tucked away in their beds. Doing something other than standing around outside your flat chatting with a bloke with the greenest eyes Louis had ever seen.

And so what of it?

Louis acknowledged that Harry was fit, it doesn't mean anything. He's allowed to admire and appreciate attractive features on anyone, it didn't mean he was gonna run off with them. He'd never. It wasn't a massive deal, he'd never leave his beau all because some boy had pretty eyes and a lovely smile.

Not happening, not ever.

A breath fell from Harry's lips before he divulged, "Hopefully, your headache clears up though, Louis." Oh, right.. Louis had forgotten he's supposed to be having throbbing head pain. "Guess I'll see you around then."

It wasn't a question, and Louis knew it when he watched Harry turn on his heels and unlocked his door before disappearing inside when he'd gotten it open. Giving Louis a wink before he shut the door.

Louis didn't waste a second as he let himself into his own place, went straight to his room, and kicked his bedroom door shut. Pulled out his phone as he sat on his bed, desiring to see what had been waiting for him. Heart in his throat when he types in his passcode and goes straight to his messages. A wave of wretchedness consumed him as he read the texts.

They were from Cammy.

'Can't call'

'Busy with lads'

And as Louis stares at the screen, he tells himself that it's one night. Even when he finally changed into his pyjamas and hit the lights, crawling into bed, Louis tried. When tears started shimmering in his eyes, Louis told himself that he'd rather chat with a sober Cammy instead and that tomorrow would be better than an inebriated one. How Cameron probably saved them from a call that could've gone terribly wrong. Even as much as missed his love, they've gotten all the time in the world ahead of them to talk.

It was fine. Louis was fine, and so was their relationship.

Everything will be ok.
