I waited patiently for Varian's letter as I started my lessons. I was already learning to control my abilities with ease. The magic lessons we're fun and much easier then the lessons on how to be a proper lady. Soon Lumieré brought me a letter from Varian as we all ate breakfast. He had a smirk on his face.

"So, you have a boyfriend, huh?" With that, Mrs. Potts smacked him upside the head.

"Don't you try that, it's probably a letter from her friend, right dearie?" I nodded some, thankful for Mrs. Potts quickly dealing with any teasing I may get.

"May I be excused? I'd like to read my letter!" Mrs. Potts nodded and I hurried off to my bedroom in the East Wing. I quickly tore open the envelope and began to read the letter.

Dear Elana,

These past times have been exhilerating! Some time after you had left for your finishing school, I met the most wonderful woman one could ever lay eyes upon! She's strong, loud and amazing, I just wish Cassandra had a smile that matched yours, then she would be perfect! Always seeing that pretty face but without the smile, it's just maddening! I met her when the princess of Corona came for help! They came to ME! Sometimes it's bad enough, it even interrupts my studies in alchemy, so I have to stop before I do something I'll regret with these compositions! Though, I am thinking of using my newest invention at the expo to impress Cassandra! I'm going to name an element after her! How does Cassandrium sound? Anyways, how are you? I still miss you very much, I mean, who wouldn't miss their sweet, bubbly friend since childhood? I just wish that you were here, we could read and talk all day! I miss my reading friend, and I hope to see you soon enough!

For some reason, I felt a pain in my chest after I read about the woman. Why does it hurt that he likes her? I should be happy for him! Yet my heart ached. I soon grabbed a pen and a piece of paper and began to write my reply.

Dear Varian,

I'm so happy for you! But I swear, if she breaks your heart, she'll have to deal with me! I think Cassandrium sounds like a pretty name for whatever you make! I miss you too, my dearest friend! My lessons are long, arduous, and frankly, quite boring. I'm having to learn how to host dinner parties and how to not slurp tea, it's truly far from fun compared to reading a good book, like "Knights of the Round Table" or one of my grandpa's stories! And the princess visited you? Whatever for? Must be really important! I have faith in you Varian! I eagerly await your next letter!

I soon got the letter in the envelope on my bureau, licking it shut. I hurried the letter to the mail carrier, feeling satisfied with what I wrote. I just wonder why I feel the way I do.
