Ch. 2. 6 Years Later.

Six years had passed since the day we met, and we became the closest of friends. Varian had become obsessed with alchemy, being quite good at it. I however began a battle that I couldn't share with him.

It started early one morning, and I was sitting in my windowsill. I was brushing my hair when I slipped from the window, I screamed as I fell, expecting to get hurt. Surprisingly, nothing happened. I opened my eyes to see I was floating a foot from the ground. I panicked and screamed for my grandparents. They ran outside, and from my point of view, they didn't look surprised one bit. They calmed me and I was able to get my feet back on the ground. It was then they told me the truth about my mother. She was an enchantress, also known as a witch. I was told she used her powers for good and that there was a friend of hers in Villeneuve, France who could teach me how to control my abilities, and since I needed to further my education, it would only be right to do it with Agathe since she knew the king of that land personally and he wouldn't be bothered if being asked to teach me to be a Lady.

I felt my heart sink in my chest. I'd have to leave my dearest friend to keep him safe.

Current day:

"So you have to go to finishing school?" Varian said, sounding dejected.

"Kinda... Since we know royalty in France, they want me to get a higher education there... You know, we could write each other every week, I don't want to leave, but I have no choice..." I sighed. I looked up at Varian, having a funny feeling in the pit of my stomach and I felt my face flush red. What was this feeling? I saw him give a soft smile, it made my heart thump to see him smile.

"Yeah, and we can have jokes that only we know, and secret notes that only we can understand!" He sounded thrilled, and he hugged me tightly, my heart skipped a beat as I hugged back tightly. I smiled softly, wanting this moment to last forever.

"You know, I'm gonna miss seeing your pretty face everyday!" The words left Varian casually, and my face became a dark shade of red.

I buried my face in my hands, giggling in confusion and amusement. The words made my heart beat so fast I was afraid he'd hear it. He gave me a puzzled look.

"What? Was it something I said?" He didn't understand what his words could mean to me, and it was truly adorable. I smiled and hurried off to pack, waving to Varian, unsure of how I was feeling. Little did I know he would mean so much to me and I would learn a different feeling; jealousy.

I waved goodbye to Varian as the carriage began to move, smiling softly, already anticipating his first letter to me.
