Send Me on My Way

Narrator's POV

"Captain." Stephen called the small dog over to an empty flowerbed where he had poured some fresh soil in.

Captains came running to his side.

Stephen pointed at a spot on the dirt.

Captain sniffed it and began to dig a hole for Stephen.

Stephen smiled.

After Captain was done, Stephen placed a few seeds in the hole and covered it back up.

The cloak waited for Stephen to finish covering up the seeds before he poured some water over it with the metal tin can he was holding.

Stephen smiled at the cloak.

They made a pretty good team.

"Right here Captain." Stephen pointed.

Captain dug again, then the cloak watered again.

They repeated the progress until the flower bed had been completely filled with rows of seeds.

It had been a year since Tony's passing, and Stephen seemed to be a lot better.

He attended his weekly sessions, which he still didn't enjoy, but it was better than sitting home alone and doing nothing. Plus, he could interact with people.

His job at the clinic was steady.

Daniel had grown all his hair back and was a happy and smiling kid again. He's destined to live a happy and long life now.

And now, now Stephen had taken gardening as a new hobby. He still played violin and piano, but he always wanted to grow a garden of his own. And now that he had lots of time, why not? He had made a large beautiful garden in his backyard. Within the course of the year, he had made a huge beautiful garden.

"Phew." Stephen removed his gardening gloves and wiped the sweat from across his forehead under his hat. "Would you look at that?" He asked, looking at the beauty of garden he had grown. "Soon there'll be pretty color petunias all over." He said.

Captain barked.

Stephen looked down at him. "Hungry?" He asked.

Captain barked, happily wagging his tail and jumping in circles.

"Alright, come on." Stephen said.

Now Stephen sat in his rocking chair on his back porch, sipping on some home made lemonade and nibbling on some sugar cookies as Captain laid by the chair, napping with a bowl of water by his side. He looked out upon his garden.

The cloak happily levitated by Stephen's side.

Stephen had muted the horrible city noises in the city, only leaving the birds to sing.

They sounded beautiful.

He sighed happily, laying back in his rocking chair and closing his eyes.

Everything was quiet, peaceful as he felt the breeze blow past him and the birds sing beautifully. The sun was just right, and the weather was lovely.

The screen door to the back door opened with a gentle laugh coming from it.

"Stephen, honey..."
Echoed in his ears.

"Ah!" Stephen's eyes shot open.

Captain's head perked up when he felt his human suddenly wake.

Stephen looked back at the screen door, which the wind had blown open and closed. His heart sunk. He exhaled, placing his hands to his head as he stared down at his feet.

Captain got up and laid better Stephen's feet.

A small smile formed on Stephen's lips. "It was only a dream." He said.

Captain nuzzled Stephen's leg before laying his head on his foot.

Stephen sighed, laying back in his chair and closing his eyes again, beginning to rock again.

"Hey." Stephen said with a mouthful as he ate from his plate. He looked over at Captain, who was eating everything on his plate except the vegetables. "Eat your vegetables." Stephen said.

Captain just ignored him.

"Eat your vegetables or you're not getting dessert." Stephen said.

Captain finished eating only what he desired, licking his snout before settling down in his chair.

"I guess you don't want dessert." Stephen said, as he continued eating from his plate.

"Now, don't go looking at me with those eyes." Stephen said, looking at Captain, who was begging for a piece of dessert. "I told you if you didn't eat your veggies, you wouldn't get any."

Captain barked, jumping around in a circle.

"Now don't throw a tantrum." Stephen said.

Captain whined, giving Stephen the teariest eyes, the ones Stephen always gave into.

"Captain." Stephen raised a brow at him.

Captain let his ears fall, looking irresistible.

Stephen sighed. "Fine, but just this once." He said.

Captains barked happily.

"Alright, alright." Stephen smiled and put some dessert on the floor for Captain, who happily ate it. "Too bad "Amór Ardiente" got cancelled. If it were still showing, we'd all be in the couch watching it."

Levi nodded sadly.

"Hey, but that doesn't mean we there isn't anything else to watch." Stephen said. "Who wants to watch "Grease"?" He asked.

The cloak picked its collar up and rushed toward the living area.

"Come on, Captain." Stephen said.

"Hah..." Stephen sighed, satisfied as he laid in bed. "Today was a good day." He said, removing his glasses and setting his book down.

Captains laid in bed with him.

The room was dark, the only thing illuminating the room was the light from Stephen's lamp on his bed side.

He put his glasses on the nightstand, along with his book. "Goodnight Captain. Goodnight Cloak." He said, reaching to turn off his lamp, but noticed a small seed on the nightstand. He picked up, inspecting it.

It was the same seed he had shown Tony a year ago.

He pulled the covers off of him. "I'll be back guys." He said, leaving the room with the seed. He went into the kitchen, looking for potting soil under the sink.

It wasn't long he found some, along with a red solo cup. He filled the cup with soil and put the seed in it, covering it up and pouring water into the cup from the sink. He placed it on the windowsill.

Turning off all the lights, he headed back upstairs to sleep.

"Alright, you two. What's it gonna be waffles or pancakes?" Stephen asked, in his robe and pajamas with his bare feet as he walked into the kitchen along with a sleepy Captain and a groggy cloak.

Captain gave a tired and lazy growl.

Stephen chuckled. "Waffles it is." He said. "Just don't tell Wong." He said.

He quickly got to work, mixing ingredients for the batter, when a little green something caught his attention.

The seed in the red solo cup which was on the windowsill had already sprouted, and the plant sitting in it was none other than a simple daisy.

Stephen gave it a smile, memories coming back into his head. He continued to work on breakfast with a smile on his face.
