Don't Stop Me Now

Narrator's POV

"Strange, you can't leave the Sanctum." Wong said. "It's assigned to you. You can't just give it away. You are the master of this Sanctum."

"Dammit it." Strange said. "I guess I'll just have to stay here."

"Yes. You belong here, with the people of New York." Wong said.

Stephen smiled. "I think that's the nicest thing you've told me since I've known you."

"I have my own Sanctum to take care of. See you around, Strange." Wong opened a portal.

"Goodbye Wong." Stephen said.

Wong left.

Stephen felt his phone vibrate in his pocket.

It was a text from Pepper.

I don't know if you care all that much, but Tony has decided to move to Oregon in a few days.

Stephen rolled his eyes.

Good. That way I won't see his face everywhere around here.

He texted. He turned his phone off and put it in his pocket, sighing and walking over to one of the windows of the Sanctum.

The cloak followed him.

They both watched as rain fell from the sky and wet the concrete jungle.

"Do you think I went too far?" Stephen asked. "I mean, he was gone for two years..." He but his lip. "...but everyone at least deserves the chance to explain themselves; and I haven't even given that chance to him." He said. "I was just so angry at him for doing this to me. For leaving me." He sighed. "I don't know cloak..." He turned to the piano he had taken from Tony's home while he was gone. He walked over to it, putting a quick tune together in his mind.

He had it. He began to play the keys, sighing along with them. "Do you remember when we were two beautiful birds? We would light up the sky, when we'd fly. You were orange and red like the sun when it sets. I was green as an apple's eye." He sang softly.

You said you loved all the songs that I'd sing
But nothing like you'd ever heard
And I said I loved you with all of my heart
When we were two beautiful birds

"Pepper, make sure you get those boxes too." Tony pointed at a couple of boxes near the kitchen as he held a phone to his ear. "Yes Rogers, I'm leaving. Oh calm down." He said. "I'll still come to your little secret meetings or whatever you call them... Yeah. Alright. Thanks... You too." He hung up. He looked up at all his belongings being packed into boxes.

Do you remember when we were two beautiful birds?
We would say when the morning would come
You are silver and blue like the moon when it's new
I was gold as the summer sun

This was it.

He was really leaving New York.

There was no reason for him to stay here when he didn't have anywhere or anyone to belong to.

He would still keep in touch with the whole team, and do mission with them whenever he was needed.

"Tony, are you sure this is what you want?" Pepper asked him, shouting a little as a helicopter landed in front of the house.

Tony looked at her. "I..." He hesitated.

But one day you asked for a different song
One that I just couldn't sing
I got the melody sharp and the words all wrong
Those were the last days of spring

Was it?

He looked down at the ground, thinking. He blinked, then looked back up at Pepper. "Yes. I'm sure! This... This is what I want!" He said as the helicopter blew air toward them.

Pepper's phone rang. "Hold on, I'm getting a call!" She shouted. She picked up her phone and answered. "Hello?" She said, going inside the house.

Tony watched her leave him with his own reflection on the glass door of his new home. He turned around to see New York.

A beautiful city, where he made his whole life. Where some of the best memories of his life happened. Where he fell in love. Where he made mistakes. Where he got heartbroken. Where he didn't want be any longer.

He turned his back on the city.

"Pepper!" He called. "I don't want to leave til tomorrow!" He said.

She gave him a thumbs up from inside the house.

He returned the thumbs up.

To build a nest we pecked feathers from our chests
Like a book tearing out every page

"We want to know that these feathers would grow into a beautiful cage." Stephen finished his song, playing a few final notes.

The cloak placed on of its corners on Stephen's shoulders, feeling his sadness.

Stephen put his hand over the red fabric. "Thank you." He said.

Stephen's phone went off.

We will be leaving tomorrow morning
- Pepper

Stephen sighed, putting his phone down.

"Daniel, bud. How've you been? I haven't seen you in a while now." Stephen said, welcoming Daniel into his office. "Cheryl, how are you?"

"Good, thank you." Cheryl said.

"Daniel, wow!" Stephen said, throwing his hands in the air. "You've gotten so big. You're almost as tall as me!"

"I know!" Daniel smiled at him. "And look! I lost my first tooth!" He said, showing Stephen an empty spot in his mouth where a tooth went.

"Did you put it under your pillow for the tooth fairy?" Stephen asked.

"Yes." Daniel said.

Cheryl smiled, her phone began to rang. "Oh. Sorry." She said, taking it out, going to turn it off but decided not to; it was an important call. "Um, actually...do you mind if I take this? It's important."

"Not at all, go ahead." Stephen said. "Daniel and I will be having lots of fun."

"I'll be back Daniel." Cheryl said, stepping out of the room. "Excuse me." She closed the door.

"Alright bud...just gonna check your ears." He said, taking out the otoscope.

Daniel stood still for him.

"Good." Stephen said, looking into his ear. "Have anything fun going on?"

"Yes. My soccer team is playing this weekend. We're the Pirates." Daniel said.

"Oh. That does sound fun." Stephen said. "Other ear." He said.

Daniel turned his head.

"You like soccer?" Stephen asked.

"Yeah. It's fun, and I get to run a lot." Daniel said.

"You like running?" Stephen asked.

"Yes." Daniel said.

"I don't like running all that much." Stephen said, pulling away. He put the otoscope down and took the stethoscope from around his neck and placed the two ends in his ears. "Alright, now to listen to that heart." He said.

Daniel stood still again.

"Okay." He moved the stethoscope to Daniel's back. "Take a deep breath." He said.

Daniel breathed in.

"Good." Stephen smiled. "Looks like you've got a strong and healthy heart." He said.

"Can I listen to yours?" Daniel asked.

"Of course." Stephen said, removing the stethoscope and handing it to Daniel. He stood still for Daniel.

Daniel listened.

"Ba-dum. Ba-dum. Ba-dum."

Daniel looked up at Stephen, who was making that sound.

"Hey, that's not fair. You have to be quiet." Daniel said.

Stephen laughed. "Okay. Okay." He staid quiet.

Daniel listened, closing his eyes, consecrating. His eyes opened after he finally heard something. "Your heart is slow." He said.

Stephen smiled at him. "Well, I'm relaxed right-"

"Are you sad?" Daniel asked.

Stephen looked at him. "No." He chuckled confusedly. "Why do you ask that?"

"Once in a documentary I saw that the heart beats slower when it's sad." Daniel said. "Are you...sad?" He asked.

Stephen's stare fell down to the ground. "Hm. Yeah...I am." He said.

"Why?" Daniel asked, pulling a small green plastic chair in front of him. "The doctor is in." He said.

"Hah..." Stephen sat down in the small chair and laid his head down on Daniel's lap. "Well, there's this friend of mine that I really love with all my heart."

"Mhm." Daniel listened, grabbing a paper and a crayon.

"And he made a really big mistake, and I got mad at him." Stephen said. "And forgiving him hasn't been easy at all."

"Yes." Daniel listened.

"And now...now I'm sad." Stephen said.

"Why?" Daniel asked.

"Because I'm having to say goodbye." Stephen said.

Daniel looked down at Stephen. "Then why don't you say hello?" Daniel showed Stephen his drawing of a dinosaur.

Stephen looked up at him.

His mind clicking.

"Yes, Daniel. Yes!" He stood up. "That's a great idea!" He said. He picked Daniel up. "Yes! You're a genius! Thank you." He smiled.

Daniel laughed. "Go get em'." He said.

"Yes." Stephen kissed his cheek and put him down. "Thank you."

"Alright, sorry about-"

"Sorry Cheryl, gotta run!" Stephen said, racing past her.

Cheryl looked at Daniel. "What did you tell him?"

Daniel only smiled at her.
