Something Special
I was watching The Last Battle when this story popped into my head. Ezra was able to get up and walk off that shot to quickly and at the end that could have been a little more but hey other than that that episode was awesome! Please enjoy!
Kanan sensed it before it happened. Ezra yelped as the blaster bolt hit him knocking the teen to the ground.
"Ezra?" He called before he began blocking shots from the other droid.
Rex cried out as a bolt hit his armor. Kanan heard the clang from Rex's helmet connecting with the droid.
"I can't believe that worked," Rex muttered firing off a couple of shots before the droid shorted out shutting down.
"It just overheated," Kanan said deactivating his saber. "That thing is really old."
"Yeah, just like me," Rex agreed.
Kanan dropped to his knees next to Ezra who was still on the ground.
"Ezra?"
"He okay?" Rex asked turning back to them.
"I don't know, Ezra come on Kid," Kanan said moving so he was holding his Padawan in his arms.
Ezra whimpered slightly in pain.
"Easy," Kanan soothed inwardly cursing the droid who started all of this.
Rex dropped down by his side and sucked in a sharp breath.
"Kanan," he whispered finally able to use the man's name properly. "It's bad, a shot to the inside of his arm and one to his ribs."
"Ezra, can you hear me? Come on Kid talk to me," Kanan said shaking Ezra lightly, wishing he could see his boy.
"Mmm...Kanan?" Ezra groaned his eyes fluttering open.
"It's okay, you're okay," Kanan said sighing in relief.
"I've been hit before but it still hurts," Ezra said moving so he could sit up properly.
"Yeah but it could have been worse," Kanan said before chuckling. "An you said wearing a protective vest was a stupid idea."
"I never said it was stupid just not a good one, but I still wear it because you and Hera asked me to," Ezra said.
"That's because we care and don't want anything else to happen to you, you goof," Kanan said ruffling the teen's hair affectionately. "Now do you think you can stand?"
"Yeah sure, no problem," Ezra said attempting to get up.
Attempting is the key word. A surge of pain shot through him and Ezra stumbled only to be caught by Kanan.
"I gotcha," the man said gripping his arm.
Rex watched the pair remembering old times but old times could wait. They needed to get moving if they were going to save Zeb and get out of here.
"Come on," he said taking Ezra's other arm gently.
Ezra turned his head and gave the old clone a grateful smile. Together they limped toward the command center.
TIME SKIP
Everyone let out a huge sigh of relief as they escaped the Empire. The General had agreed that the war was over and left signed off to go in peace. Kanan had talked to Hera while Rex got them into hyperspace. Once they were away Rex turned back to see everyone sitting in the floor relaxing.
"You did it Ezra," Rex praised.
"But I didn't do anything," the teen said stifling a yawn.
"You ended the Clone Wars," Rex said feeling lighter than he had in years.
He couldn't wait to tell Gregor and Wolfe.
"How about I tell you about the battle of Geonosis?"
"Maybe later Captain," Kanan chuckled looking down.
The man followed his gaze and sure enough Ezra was curled up against Kanan's side dozing.
"Make a good solider?" He mumbled.
"Go to sleep Ezra, you've earned it," Kanan said wrapping his arm around him and hugging him close.
Rex grinned as the boy's eyes closed fully and his breath evened out.
"Yeah Kid, you're more than a soldier. You are something special."
I do hope you guys enjoyed this. Like I said I wanted to extend a little bit on those particular scenes. Let me know what you thought. Have a good day!
