Chapter 23

All was going right that day.  Birds were chirping in the early morning and the temperature outside was a mid 75° through the afternoon.  What wasn't right was the yelling going on between Jack and Katherine.

"Those men at the board won't listen to women Kath!"

"They would have if her so called 'husband' would stand up for her!"

"And why should I?!"

"Because I'm your wife damnit! Because they sat there ridiculing and mocking me in front of you and you did nothing!"

"If I did something, I could have been dethroned."

"Like you wanted to be king in the first place!" She yelled at him.

"I didn't wanna because my parents hated eachother when they got married!"

"Well lookie here Jack! We did too!"

"Well maybe it never went away." Jack muttered under his breath.

Katherine stopped and stared at him.

"I-I. . ."

"Out!" She said through gritted teeth.

"You're impossible." Jack muttered before going back to their bedroom.

"I hate you." Katherine whispered but just loud enough for him to hear.

The door slammed shut and she winced before laying down on the couch and letting tears escape softly.

The two spent the whole day away from eachother, they ate separately, they bathed separately, they did work separately. Nighttime came around and it was time to get ready for bed.

Katherine stood in her nightgown, brushing her teeth as Jack got dressed for bed. She came back out and grabbed a blanket and pillow and went to the couch. Jack followed her.

"Just what the hell are you doing?" He asked.

"You wanna sleep in the bed? Then I'm sleeping on the couch." Katherine said.

Jack just sighed and trudged back upstairs to finish getting ready.

Katherine laid down on the couch, her head indenting the pillow as she drew the fuzzy blanket over her body and closed her eyes. To be truthfully honest, she missed Jack's kisses. She missed his touch. But she was stubborn and nothing could change that. So she closed her eyes and fell asleep.

Jack laid awake and stared at the ceiling. He missed Katherine. He missed his best friend. He couldn't ever think right when they were fighting and so much was going on these next few days. He shut his eyes tight and tried to sleep. No use. He opened his eyes and got out of bed, walking downstairs to find Katherine asleep on the couch, curled up in her blanket.

Jack smiled longingly before leaning down and picking her up gently bridal-style in his arms

"Come on." He said, "Let's go to bed for real."

Katherine wrapped her arms around his neck, linking her hands together, and buried her face in his neck; mumbling something incoherent.

Jack carried Katherine upstairs and sidestepped the doorframe before laying her down on the bed, helping her arms down that still reached for his touch.

He crawled in next to her and kissed her head gently.

"I'm not mad anymore.' Katherine whispered softly.

"Neither am I." Jack replied with a smile.

Katherine smiled softly and Jack closed
his eyes, both giving into sleep.

***

The two woke up early the next morning, entangled in eachother's arms.  Katherine looked up at Jack from where her head lay on his chest and smiled softly.  Jack smiled back as she traced her nimble fingers along his jawline and gave it a small ghost of a kiss.  Jack flipped over so he was overtop of Katherine, pinning her wrists above head, and grinned down at her.  Katherine rolled her eyes with a smile before Jack quickly smashed his lips to her's.  He began trailing kisses down her neck as Katherine's eyes quickly widened knowing what he was doing and quickly weakening her.  Jack gently began kissing her neck, holding his mouth to it and sucking on it slightly just enough to leave a hickey as Katherine let out some kinda of inaudible squeak of a pleasured noise.  His hands wandered along her body and Katherine sighed in relief before he began giving her another on the other side to match the left.  Katherine gently grabbed his face and pressed their lips together, moving feverishly together. She felt completely like jello, like she was floating. Amazing.

Jack pulled away and looked down at her, pushing away some stray curls that fell in her face.

"You're so damn beautiful." He whispered, his breath tickling her face as her nose crinkled in a smile.

"I love you."

"I love you more."

Jack began kissing her again and Katherine ran her nails up and down his back under his shirt as Jack let out a moan and moved his hand to grab onto the sheets.

"I love. . . You so. . . Much Katherine." He breathed out.

"And I you." Katherine whispered in his ear.
