The King and His Queen

Part 3 (Operation: Prom)

"So tonight is the night. No mess ups. Everything has to be perfect if we're going to get Tamaki and Haruhi together," I said. I had the boys on conference call, with the exception of Tamaki of course. I had coordinated everything, right down to the corsages the boys would give their dates. Jared's date was getting an orange lily; Michael's was getting a yellow carnation; Kyoya was giving Jess a pink peony; Kaoru had a lavender corsage for Nadine; Tamaki had a red rose for Haruhi; and me? I didn't know what Hikaru had gotten me yet.

"No one let them out of your sight-" Kaoru said. "- but don't interfere. Boss has to man up and do this himself," Hikaru finished. "Shit, I gotta go. The girls are here and we have a hair appointment. See y'all tonight." I hung up just as Auntie barged in my room. "Dey here. You ready to go?" I rolled off the bed and sighed, "Ready as I'll ever be." She laughed as I followed her.

*many hours and much work later*

We were all pacing the living room, waiting for the boys. Jess had her light auburn hair pinned up in a small hive-like hairdo. Her makeup was flawless, and I don't think anyone could rock that pink dress better than her. She opted for white flats, because she didn't want to be taller than Kyoya in her heels. Nadine's dark hair had caramel highlights and fell sleek and straight down her back; she had jeweled strands braided into some parts of her hair; she looked like a princess. She was in a pair of white heels that had little jewels in them. My hair tumbled over my shoulder in thick waves, pinned carefully so it would stay that way. I swayed as I paced in my strappy black heels. My eyeshadow matched my dress, but other than that, I didn't wear much makeup. The color did something incredible to my eyes. They were practically glowing green. Haruhi's hair was dyed jet black (her choice) and her bangs were done all in red. She strutted in confidently in her red stilettos. Her smokey eye and winged eyeliner made her look fierce. She looked like a model, she really did.

Ranka and Auntie were just as nervous as us, waiting by the front door. It almost made us want them to go back to taking photos every five seconds. The boys finally came in, Jared and Michael guiding their dates into my house. Auntie made us girls line up with our dates in front of us as they gave us corsages. I felt like these were the kind of pictures people put in catalogues that advertised prom.

"A white rose?" I whispered as Hikaru put the corsage on my wrist. He shrugged and smiled at me. "It suits you," he mumbled. I hoped Auntie caught plenty of pictures of Tamaki, because I'm pretty sure he gawked at Haruhi with his jaw to the floor the entire time. "Alright, you kids go on before Ranka and I keep you here all night," Auntie finally said. We took our chances and darted out of the apartment.

When we got to the dance, the party had already started. Everyone was fired up and having a good time. I fished my camera out from my purse and made my friends hang around for one "official" host club picture, and then individual pictures of each of us with our dates. We all eventually branched out on our own, Hikaru and I never straying far from Haruhi and Tamaki.

I had gotten so caught up in the music and Hikaru that I eventually couldn't find Tamaki or Haruhi. I sent out a group text, and we met up in music room 3. "Jared, Michael, Jess, you guys search the top floor. Kyoya, Kaoru, Nadine, search the first floor. Hikaru and I will search here on the second floor," I ordered. No sooner than the words had left my mouth, they were all taking off. "What do you think happened?" Hikaru asked. I shrugged as I led the way, peeking into classrooms. An hour later, we all met back in the music room with no luck. "Where could they-"

I was cut off by the sound of laughter. "That's Haruhi!" Jess gasped. We followed the sound to the other end of the music room. A large curtain covered the back wall and we could still hear something, so Hikaru and Kaoru pulled it back. The balcony door was shut, but Tamaki and Haruhi were out there holding hands! I opened the balcony door and stood there, hands on hips. Tamaki leaned over and kissed Haruhi, and she was kissing him back. "Ahem!" I interrupted. They both looked at me, startled. "All this effort we put into a plan and you don't even follow it?" I griped. Haruhi stared at us in disbelief. "You guys planned this?!?" she yelled. Tamaki shrugged, looking embarrassed. "I guess I just...needed to do it my own way," he mumbled, his gaze meeting mine as he smiled. Suddenly, Hikaru and Kaoru started up choruses of "Haruhi and Boss sittin' in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G!" Tamaki grinned while Haruhi blushed. "Oh, grow up!" she shouted.

A/N: This is where the chapter The King and His Queen REALLY begins.

"Looks like we're no longer Ouran's cutest couple," Hikaru sighed overdramatically, wrapping an arm around my shoulder. "That's fine by me," I giggled as we watched Tamaki and Haruhi from a distance. Yeah, we were spying on them, but so what? It's what we were notorious for doing to each other, like when the entire host club followed Hikaru and me to the beach.

Ouran was buzzing about Haruhi and Tamaki, and the reveal of "Haruhi's Big Secret". When we first showed up to prom, no one recognized her. We told everyone it was Haruhi, and they were still convinced she was a he and she had just gone to prom in drag. Now that the truth was out, no one could shut up about it. As Haruhi was turned around, I hid behind a wall and dragged Hikaru with me. He was standing so close that I didn't have to do more than look up to kiss him. "Let's go on, yeah. They got enough people watchin' them," I whispered. He smirked and replied, "What? You got other plans?" Without answering, I just ducked under his arm and walked away. He soon followed with a lopsided grin.

We really need 2 double date.

I stared at the text and couldn't help but laugh. "What is it?" Hikaru asked. "Haruhi," I responded as I typed out my reply to her.

Ur on a date now lol what are u txtin me for?

I kept walking, Hikaru following closely and asking questions constantly. "Haruhi and Tamaki want to double date," I snorted. "Hm, wonder why," Hikaru chuckled. "They need the extra muscle to ward off everyone." He flexed and I couldn't help but giggle. "You are so...no," I gasped for air, laughing so hard that I had to hold onto him.

We were just lounging in the music room, waiting for clients to arrive. "If all of the hosts get girlfriends, where does that leave us?" one girl wailed as she was chatting with her friends in the hall. Kaoru put his arm around us and cried overdramatically, "Oh yes, wherever will that leave our customers?" I shoved him hard and Hikaru just laughed. Haruhi would normally have joined in on tormenting my boyfriend and his twin, but she was too lost in her conversation with Tamaki to notice us. "Jeez, were we this bad?" I scoffed. "Actually, you were worse," Kyoya replied with a smirk. His gaze softened as he watched them though, and he whispered, "I'm very happy they're together. They bring out the best in one another." All of a sudden, there was a shriek like someone had let loose 1,000 banshees. I just covered my ears and curled up against Hikaru as the gears ground together and the engine whirred, Renge rising from the floor. "How DARE I be the last one to know about this!? And Haruhi is a GIRL?!?!" she screamed. She looked over to Tamaki and Haruhi just as he gave her a kiss, and Renge couldn't speak anymore. She just fainted and fell right off of her platform. Before any of us could react, Kyoya had caught her. "You should go rest Renge, give yourself some time to process this," he murmured. She stood unsteadily and crawled to the top of her platform, lying down in the fetal position as it lowered back to the floor. "That was...eventful," Kaoru whispered, all of us frozen in confusion. "Don't you mean awkward?" Hikaru shot back. I nodded in agreement. "It's time to start club hours," Kyoya announced. When none of us moved, he stomped off toward the door to welcome people.

"It's gon' rain," I pouted as I looked out of the window, watching Hikaru step out of the limo and head toward my apartment building. Just as he got in the door, thunder cracked and the bottom fell out. Rain pounded relentlessly against the building and I just glared at the darkened sky. "A.J.!" Hikaru hollered as he entered the house. "Looks like our day out is ruined," I whimpered as he came up behind me and wrapped his arms around my waist. "We can always make...other plans," he whispered huskily, nibbling at my earlobe. I shivered, losing myself in the sensation. "Hikaru," I protested futilely. "I'm serious." He chuckled and his hands were no longer on me. "I know. Just relax. We can still have a nice date indoors." Before I could respond, he disappeared from the room. "Hikaru?" I called. "What are you doing?" In a few minutes, he came back with a blanket from my room, a family size bag of chips, two plates, and two cans of soda. Setting the food down on the coffee table, he quickly laid the blanket out. "Sit down," he said with a grin. Blushing, I sat down and grabbed a plate. "There," he smiled. "The perfect date." He sat down across from me with his food and his drink. Soda, chips, and ham and cheese sandwiches; I couldn't think of anything better. Soon the door opened and two more sets of footsteps trailed through the house. Tamaki and Haruhi stood in the middle of the floor, sopping wet.

Haruhi did not look pleased at all. "Your food is on the counter," Hikaru said. Haruhi sat down beside me as Tamaki went into the kitchen. "So much for a double date," Haruhi laughed uneasily, staring out the window. She had always been scared of thunder and lightning, and I felt really bad (despite the fact that the weather was out of my control) that we had made plans and it started storming. Tamaki came back in and she seemed to relax. He set her food down in front of her before sitting down criss-cross and pulling her into his lap. I turned the TV on and turned the volume up to cover the sound of the storm. We watched an old Adam Sandler movie, The Wedding Singer, as we enjoyed our lunch. Haruhi was oblivious to the storm, and by the time it had passed, she was laughing and cutting up like she wasn't even afraid. The movie credits rolled and she looked at me with a grin. "Best double date ever." I giggled and shoved her off of Tamaki's lap so that she went tumbling to the floor. "Only double date ever," I snorted.

Hope you enjoyed this chapter. I have finals for my college psych class coming up so I probably won't update for about a week or so. Tamaki and Haruhi are finally together!!! ^_^ I can't believe this story has lasted 23 chapters! Stick around guys, we've only got a few chapters left.
