Chapter 9
Those two days pasted quick! I closed the door, leading Hailey to my room. Hailey told me...ahem,"I must look through you wardrobe before you wear anything else! You can't wear dark colors when it's fall! Winter is long gone. And shoes? You can borrow my flats or heels when you need."
"Eww! Really? A black tank? Get rid of that! We're going shopping tomarrow, understand?" she asked.
I nodded my head, wondering why I let her into my house.
"Here, I'll sort through your shirts, skirts, and pants. You do your shoes and dresses," she sighed.
I nodded. After about an hour, half my clothes wear gone and so were my shoes.
"Okay! Now...uh..." she looked at my clothes we kept. About three skirts, five shirts, one pair of jeans, and two dresses. I only had two pairs of shoes. My tennis shoes and my boots.
"Hm." I say.
She moved her hand, slowly, towards the clothes, as if they were some sort of trap. She picked up a light brown shirt and threw it on the floor. She stomped in... frustration?
"None of this works together! Ugh! Fashion emergency... like now! Mall, Stella!" She whipped out her purse (where did she keep it?!) and marched out of my room. I sagged my shoulders and followed her out. She hopped into her car and I did the same. In minutes, we were at the *dramatic sigh* mall. We went in..
"This!" She declared. "And this and, ooh! This is a must! Yes, ew, no! That's so pretty! This'll look good! Perfect! Uh-huh! Yep!"
She, thankfully, paid for it. If she didn't, well, let's say I'd be 45 pounds missing. Yeah... We went home. She settled on this light orange dress with a leather jacket and her my new black flats with my hair in an orange headband. And it felt so cold, too.
We left for the Cavern. I've never been to this place. What I was expecting. A huge stage with red curtains and seats. This place was so, ugh! It smelled of smoke, beer, and sweat. The place was so dirty! And crowded. So, I underestimated it a lot, but Hailey seemed so excited.
"Yay!" She clapped. "They're on next!"
Soon, cheering erupted through the crowd. I looked on the stage and sure enough, my boyfriend, along with Hailey's, were up on stage with three other guys. They started singing songs I hardly knew. I got bored fast. And a little jealous. Some girls were calling out George's name and were gawking at him. I sighed and told Hailey that I'd walk home.
"Are you sure? It's a ways away," she said.
"Possitive. Bye, Hailey," I waved at I left.
I got out onto the sidewalk and went towards the direction of home. The air was crisp and made it burn as I swallowed. But the trees around me were so breathtaking. I never even noticed them before. Whem I got home, I took out my pencil and a sheet of paper and went outside. I sat down on the sidewalk and started sketching in the dark.
The moon illuminated the trees, which made it easier to see. I drew. And shaded. And sketched. And more shading. Until I swore it was midnight. I studied the picture I had just sketched. Several lines made branches of the tree. A sketchy crescent was the moon, with specks floating in the sky.
I drew a breath. I could see the white air that came out. How cold is it? I numbly took my hand out of my pocket. It was definitely cold. I got up and went inside. I put my my picture in the green binder that once wasn't mine. I stuck it in carefully, not wanting to ruin the others. I went over to my shoes. My brown worn boots. I never wear them. They don't even fit me.
Tears filled my eyes, but they never fell. They just lingered onto my eyes, making my eyesight blurry. I ran over to my bed and fell asleep. Wondering, no, wishing I never left Hawaii.
