Cathecism

Dedicated to Danicaaaly

Sunday Morning...

Christian Anthony's POV:

"Anthony, being a cathecist does not only involve your knowledge about the sacraments of the church, but also creating strategies on how the gospel will be understandable to all."

Imee is teaching me some secrets on her job as a cathecist. Today is the first day that I will saw her speak about those things to the children.

Her cathecism session will be held in her own room, since the church doesn't have any provisions to buy an electric wheelchair that allows her to roam beyond her room. But regardless, both of us are excited to it is to come today.

"Tok! Tok! Tok!" Then the doors came knocking before it opened...it was Father Jean, accompanied with some little kids.

"Guys, this is Ate Imee. She would be your teacher for today." Father Jean introduces her to the kids. "She's in bed because she's a bit sick. But don't worry though, she's strong enough to teach you. Please behave when your Ate Imee speaks, okay?"

"Yes, Father." The kids replied in unison, just in time for Imee to begin her session.

Imee Therese's POV:

"Good morning, kids!"

"Good morning, Ate Imee!" The children quickly replied to my greeting.

I started the day with asking them how was their mornings...what did they eat earlier for breakfast...how young there are...and their personal opinions about what will they expect from me. Regardless how good or bad their responses are...from my experiences as a student council president and a Girl Scout, talking about random off-topic stuffs will make the audience motivated for the main topic.

"Alright, kids. Do you know what is the Gospel of the day is?" As expected, the children has no idea about today's readings. "Okay, our Gospel for the day is from the book of St. Matthew. My assistant, Anthony, will read it for you."

And so Anthony reads the passage from the Bible. It's all about the Beatitudes, the eight blessings that our Lord is proclaimed when He began the Sermon at the Mount.

“Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
 Blessed are those who mourn,
    for they will be comforted.
 Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
    for they will be filled.
 Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.

Blessed are the pure in heart,
    for they will see God.
 Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.

Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

"Okay, what does our Good Lord is telling us here? This are the kinds of people the He is chosen...they are simply blessed by Him...for they will find joy, peace and glory in heaven. Everybody is welcome to enjoy such joy, peace and glory in heaven...even you, children, to whom Our Father is very pleased."

I continued to explain the verse to the children. "Children, if you're facing difficult challenges and problems, don't lose your hope and faith to the Lord. For the Lord doesn't place this problems without a purpose...this part of your lives are there to shape you for the better...you just need to stand affirm to your faith...pray more, believe more to Him.

"Also, don't lose your hope and faith to the Lord when someone else dear to you pass ahead of you. Remember, Our Father shares the same sorrow with you when his close friend Lazarus passed away. And if you think that they have gone forever, the Lord says they're still here forever along with Him...until the end of time Think about it, they will suffer no more, they won't cry anymore and they will smile for all of us forever. How would you see them again? Simply pray to the Lord...for the Lord was risen back to life after His passion and death from the cross. Pray to the Lord that He would do the same for you love ones...so that one day you would see them again and stay for the rest of your life.

"But for now kids, our Good Lord has tasked us to do good deeds to our neighbors while we're here on earth...be meek, be merciful, be righteous, be friendly, be faithful...be meek for people would see the real you; be merciful for people can feel the love and compassion for God through your works; be righteous for people will know what is right from wrong; be friendly for through you, unity will be achieved; and finally be faithful...even through times of troubles and scrutiny...for you will be glorified by Our Father in heaven. If you do all of this, who knows, you can be one of your favorite saints that you adore and pray to!"

Well, I have spoken what the Holy Spirit wants to tell to them...but they responded with an awkward silence. Perhaps, I explained the Gospel too deep for the children to understand.

"Ehehehe...maybe I spoke too much, kids. Do you understand what I've said?" I finally asked the children for clarification. "Don't worry, I will make it simple for you."

"Hehehe! Don't worry, Ate Imee. We understand it very clearly, we're just taking down notes." A boy from the group speaks to me. "Wow! You're talking like a good priest, Ate Imee!"

"Oh...ehehehe, why thank you." I giggled on his comment.

After explaining the gospel for the day, I proceed with the study of the sacraments. Already baptized and young in age, I discussed some orientation towards their first communion. I explained easily how the Eucharist is important to their lives: simply that receiving the consecrated host signifies the presence of Christ within us...filling us with the Holy Spirit...so that He will be guiding us through all the days of our lives...as it dates back to the institution of Eucharist during the Last Supper.

"There we go, kids...those are the basics." I formally closed the session. "Did you learn something today?"

"Yes, mam!" The kids replied in unison. "Thank you, Ate Imee!"

"Your welcome! Hehehe!"

One by one, the kids approached my bedside and kissed me either on my cheeks or on my hands, which I can still feel their kisses. After they left the room, I felt a great feeling of calmness and happiness. Little by little, I have starting to share the Good News...at least to the kids.

"Wow, Imee. You're very awesome back then!" With his voice filled with awe, Anthony praised me. "I really wanted to teach those kids like the way you do!"

"Hehehe! Thank you, Anthony. Don't worry, just listen to whatever I teach to you...and you will be doing just fine." I motivated my assistant. "Alright, Anthony. Can you pray with me for a moment?"

"Yes, Saint Imee! Hehehe!" Anthony replies with a pun.

"Hmm!" And I replied back with a pout...before focusing myself to prayer.

"Lord, thank you for the Spirit you sent to us today, to teach those children about the true meaning of our purpose in this world. Now, help them to remain strong in their faith and fulfill Your good will through doing good deeds to their parents, siblings, friends and neighbors...so that they will be Your children, to whom You are very pleased.

I also pray for ourselves to do the same. Help us so that we will be blessed by You, just like what You did in the mount. Help us to forget ourselves...and help others to ease their troubles. Let us do this in accordance to your will...if it's for Your glory...and the greater good of our soul. Amen.
