(Y/n) retreated to the ship when the sun began to peek the horizon. Wiping her tears away before any crewmembers spotted her, she turned the corner towards her shared room with Law. Coincidentally she bumped into the man himself, "Law? What are you doing up?"
"I should be asking you that."
"Ladies first," She countered. Law sighed and combed his fingers through his messy hair before he looked in her eyes.
"You weren't in bed." He stated.
(Y/n) was skeptical of his answer, "It has to be more than that Law, please tell me what's wrong." Grabbing his hand she looked at her lover with pleading eyes. When he didn't answer or looked at her, she answered for him, "Another nightmare?" she asked, Law nodded and kept his eyes lowered to the floor.
"I had a dream where you died in my arms. When I saw that you weren't in bed I went looking for you."
(Y/n) took his hand and pulled him in a hug. "Law, we both know that will never happen, I'm right here and I'm going to leave you like that." She comforted, "come on, let's go to bed." (y/n) tried break from the embrace but Law kept her still. "Is something the matter Law?" He said nothing for a while before finally looking into (y/n)'s eyes.
"Yes, there is. When I went looking for you Jean told me that he found you crying on the beach. Why were you crying?" (y/n) became stiff.
She pushed away from Law, causing a piece of metal to fall from the hoodie that she wore. Curious about what had fallen, Law knelt down to pick out the object that had rolled towards his foot. He squinted at the piece of metal before him. Engraved on the front was the letters "(f/I)" and "D" with a plus between the two. He pressed a button that was assigned to the top of the trinket and the lid popped open. His heart felt a pang from what he saw inside. It was a picture of (y/n) and a man he didn't know, kissing.
"(Y/n), what's this?"
(Y/n)'s heart hammered as she answered hastily, "That's mine."
"I know it's yours, but what is it?" He repeated.
"It's nothing special, can I have it back please?" (Y/n) went to snatch the locket back but Law quickly pulled it away.
"I'll give you the locket if you answer these two questions," he stated as he pivoted and twisted his body to avoid (y/n)'s hands in retrieving the trinket. "Why were you crying, and who is in the photo?" (Y/n) never answered him, instead she kept fighting for the locket. This went on for a while before Law had enough of her resistance and pinned her against the wall, "I told you what was bothering me so now it's your turn."
"If I told you, you would be disappointed in me..."
"Why would I ever be disappointed in you?"
With fresh streaming tears, (y/n) broke down from the memories that flooded from that small trinket. "My Ex gave me that locket..." she croaked, Law stiffened as tears fell down her face, "He said that he would fight for me and be there every step of the way, he even said that we'll get married, but we didn't." She sobbed, "I know I should've thrown it out years ago, but I still kept it because I still care about him...I'm sorry...Law..." (Y/n)'s body slumped when she finished.
A sense of deja vu washed over him, as he held her against the wall. This was no different from what he experienced in his dream. Letting let go of (y/n)'s hands he watch her slide to the floor with her hands covering her face in shame. Looking at the locket again he gritted his teeth. Law quickly grabbed (y/n)'s arm, forcibly bringing her up as he stopped down the hall. "Law what are you doing? Ow, hey, that hurts! Law!" Cried (y/n), Law's ears fell deaf upon her complaints and continued to drag her down the halls.
'Once I woke up from that hell of a nightmare I told myself that I'll never see her like how I saw her in my dream." Law burst through the doors that lead to the ship's deck. 'And yet...' Law gave another look at the locket 'I saw her like that right as a woke up.' Going to the ship's railing Law summoned all the strength he had and chucked the locket as far as he could into the ocean.
"Law! What the hell! Why did you do that! (y/n) screamed as she pounded her fist on his heaving chest.
"Because I'm fucking pissed at you!" Cried Law.
"Pissed at me? What did I ever do!"
"Why do you even care! Why do you still care for a person that stopped loving you when I'm right fucking here!" (Y/n)'s eyes widen at his outburst and stopped her rain of punches on Law. She froze in place as she stared deep in her lover's eyes that were seeping in rage. She then lowered her gaze towards her shaking hands, more tears blurred her vision.
"I...", (Y/n) thought hard to answer his question, but she couldn't find an answer. "...I don't know..." (Y/n) fell down on her knees and covered her tear-stained face. Law kneeled down to her level and places his head against hers.
"(y/n)...don't waste your tears on someone who doesn't even deserve to see you smile..." He softly whispered. Removing (y/n)'s hands Law moved in close. He delicately placed his hand around her head, tangling his fingers in her locks. In a swift motion, he locked his lips on hers. Time slowed down around the couple, savoring each second that passed them. Pulling away from the kiss Law lifted (y/n) from her spot and wiped her tears away.
With soft eyes, he pulled her close, "I have to tell you something, (y/n)." A lump was pushed down her throat, "I wanted to tell you at Dressrosa, but I missed every chance I had there, and I feel like I'll never get another chance to say this." Law knelt on his knee once again, releasing her to pull out a velvet box. He opened the small compartment and revealed a shimmering diamond.
"(y/n), Will you marry me?"
There were no words to describe what (y/n) felt. With her hands covering her astonished expression, more tears fell down her face. The sun began to rise higher in the sky, Law's hair was still messy in the morning light and his dark, half-lidded eyes began to look more noticeable, but as he staring intensely in his lover's eyes, (y/n) couldn't help but find Law more attractive. "But why?" (y/n) questioned, "Why would you want to marry me?"
"Because I want you to stay with me and know that you love me. To know that you stayed because you chose to. I don't need to promise you anything because I can prove to you when, how, and why I love you. Forget what's behind you and focus what's right in front of you. (Y/n), marry me." The last part of Law's statement was more of a demand than a request, but neither the less (Y/n) fell down to his level and crashed her lips on Law's.
"About time," he huffed as he broke away for air.
"Just shut up and keep kissing me, dammit." Another passionate kiss was made between the two, but little did they know the crew was secretly watching the two.
"About time he said something," grumbled Satchi, Penguin hummed in agreement.
"Hush you two." Tutted Jean, "The two have been through a lot. Come on, let's leave them alone or Cap'n will have our heads, literally." The group shuddered at the thought and left without a sound. Law placed the ring on (y/n)'s finger after they broke off from their kiss. The two rose from their spot and gaze out towards the sea within an embrace.
Throughout their lives, they had lost some things along the way, but it was worth it to know that they had gained something that was worthwhile in the end, something that they would never think they would ever gain: Each other's love.
