June P.o.v

He led me to the dance floor elegantly, and I was really nervous since it was the first time, we were performing alone. And everyone had their eyes on us. I never really liked to be the centre of attention, It gave me the creeps. He gave a lite squeeze on my hand when he noticed the discomfort on my face. I gave him a vague look since, I was technically in a fight with him, Even though I was really glad to stand beside him. He couldn't stop smiling brightly, it was really odd. The moment I reached that stage, I forgot all my worries for a second. The music started playing and we danced elegantly. The moves were really smooth and eloquently done. When I dance with Andrew, there was one thing I needn't worry about, It is the fear of screwing up, he was so good that he can make me also good in the performance. When I was with him, I never have to worry about anything else. I felt safe in his embrace. Dancing with him, watching the way he looked at me, pained my heart to let go, I never felt like that. I am really depressed. I felt like I lost even before the fight begun. The performance came to an end but Andrew's eyes never left mine. The music stopped and the applause from my fellow classmates filled our ears. I was shaken awake from my train of thoughts.

Okay, guys.. That was just great! Do exactly the same tomorrow and we are good to go! Mr.Anderson exclaimed as he came rushing towards us with a huge smile on his face.

Thanks, Mr.Anderson! Andrew replied with a grin.

I just smiled faintly at him.

Okay.. So let's move on to the next performance! Mr.Anderson pointed at the next couple and went near the stage.

Loud music filled the auditorium again. Andrew was standing beside, eyeing me closely.

Um. I should go! I said suddenly and walked away from him swiftly.

I noticed he was trying to stop me, but I left the place so quickly. As I was walking towards the exit, Becky came rushing towards me with a huge grin on her face.

Oh my god. You guys rocked! She exclaimed.

Becky. Now is not a good time! I muttered, as my eyes grew red and tears started welling up.

Are you alright? She asked looking worried.

No! I nodded my head.

Can we please just go? I asked as I wiped off a teardrop that was rolling down my cheek.

Yeah, of course! She replied instantly.

I helped her walk out of the auditorium. We reached hostel after a 5 mins walk. As soon as we went into my room, Becky started questioning me.

Are we gonna talk about what happened out there? She asked looking concerned.

Nope! I replied in a muffled voice looking away.

Here are your pills, you take them and sleep! It's been an eventful day! I said handing over her pills, trying to ignore that topic.

Hey..! What's wrong? She asked me slowly.

Tears started pouring out, I was a weeping ball in no time.

Everything! I replied sobbing.

Well..tell me? Maybe I can help you out! She said trying to comfort me.

That's the worst part, you can't.

I nodded a No.

Are things not working out between Andrew and You? She asked looking concerned.

Yeah,I guess you can say that! I said trying hard to control my tears.

Before you say anything, I need to tell you something! She said suddenly.

What? I asked confused by her facial expression.

Andrew is lying about the engagement! It's not what you think it is! She said seriously.

How do you know that? I asked as my heart was pacing.

I am not proud of it, but I kinda I overhead his conversation with his dad over the phone. He was talking like a crazy person, about shareholders, something about his family home and all that. At first, I wasn't sure but then I told Liam about it and he did some research and found out it was all true. He is being forced into marrying Sharon. He not that bad as he makes everyone pictures him to be! She said looking hopeful.

I was terrified of the fact that Becky and Liam were also involved now.

Well..that is unfortunate! I said trying to sound convincing.

You know what this means right? You can tell him how you fell! She said with a big smile.

No, I can't! I replied with a frown.

What!?! Why not!? She asked looking bewildered.

She was looking at me as if I said I was involved in a murder. I was silent for a few minutes, staring at the distance.

June???? Explain? She yelled.

I got a job! I said suddenly.

Wait. What?? Becky looked confused.

I am leaving for the internship for The New Reads magazine at NYC after the finals! I said in a rush.

You are leaving for New York? She asked slowly.

Yea! I think it would be a great experience for me and I really need this job! I explained.

Wow. This is huge! She gasped.

I can't believe this is happening for real! I mean I always thought you were the constant one in my life, I mean we went to school together, we went college together. I honestly don't know what to do without you! She said with teary eyes.

I know! And I feel the same way! I replied with the same reaction.

So are you happy about this? She asked suddenly.

Happy??!? I blinked.

Knowing everyone I love are safe, I guess that will work. Yeah, I'll be happy or that's what I was trying to convince myself.

Yeah.. I guess! I said trying to smile between the tears.

What about Andrew? She asked looking at me seriously.

What about him? I asked turning away from her.

Did you not hear what I just said about his engagement? That changes things! She exclaimed.

It doesn't change anything! I snapped.

How could you say that? How could give up on your first love? She asked looking furious.

I stayed silent for some time.

You gotta tell him,I won't let you give up! She exclaimed.

That's not your decision to make! I spoke with gritted teeth.

Are you hearing yourself? She asked looking disappointed.

What do you want me to tell him, Becky? Every time I take a step forward I get hurt! He has his own reasons for marrying Sharon and I got mine for taking that job! And as my friend, you should respect that! I snapped again.

Is that reason important than him? She asked slowly.

Her question froze me.

I-I can't choose! I shuttered.

Well, you have to! She said walked out leaving me alone in the darkness.

Andrew's P.o.v (Present)

I still can't understand why June was acting like that. She looked lost. Something was definitely troubling her but what was? She was acting distant lately. Maybe she was mad at me about that engagement thing. I mean She did confront me about that today. I should just come clean with her.

It's been three days since I discovered that my childhood love Alison was none other than June but still I didn't do anything about that. Yes, June's full name is Alison June Paxton. How did I find that out? Well, everything started a few days back, when I came back from dance practice.

SMALL FLASHBACK

Day 4: (After Practice)

I returned to my hostel, feeling frustrated. Although I don't know why. Oh, I know why cause You can't stand that Jason guy with June my inner voice said. This is getting creepy, maybe I was imagining stuff. I need some rest to cool myself I thought to myself. As I went into my room, I noticed Liam, he was doing something on his laptop, I didn't wanna disturb him. I changed into something comfortable and I was lying on the bed contemplating also I wanted to relax the sore muscles cause of all the dancing.

So how was practice? He asked suddenly but still focusing his view on his laptop screen.

It was alright!   I replied instantly with a sigh.

I wanted to keep the conversation to the minimum since I was not in a chatty mood.

Just Alright? What's wrong?  He asked with a small chuckle.

Nothing.. Everything is fine, that's why I said alright!   I said looking annoyed.

Ya right!    He rolled his eyes.

Can we just stop talking? My head hurts!   I exclaimed.

Fine! I'll shut up!    He chuckled softly.

Thank you!   I mouthed sarcastically.

He stayed silent for a few minutes but then again it was like the calm before the storm.

So Becky says You were really upset the other day at practice? Her exact words were " I think he was trying to blow up Jason's head with his stare! "   He said with a smirk.

It's cute, how close you both are! You know.. You guys tell each other everything like an old married couple!   I said sarcastically.

Yeah, well at least we are not brooding in silence! He fought back.

So you both really are a couple huh? Interesting? I smirked.

I think we are getting off-topic Buddy!  He said firmly.

I don't know, are we?! I smirked again.

He avoided me and carried on with his investigation.

I think I know what's bothering you! It is a girl and She has the name of your favourite month of the year! Am I close? Help me out here..will you?     He asked with amusement.

First of all, June isn't my favourite month and second of all, you are wrong!  I said with a fake laugh.

Alright fine!  You might have got something okay?  I yelled in frustration.

I am glad my misery is amusing to you!   I snapped.

Come on, I was just kidding!   He said punching me playfully.

Yeah.. Whatever. It's doesn't matter now! I mumbled.

Am I imagining or did I really love to see Andrew Mitchell get jealous?   He said and started laughing.

Jealous?!? And me? Pff. Oh please!   I said with annoyance.

Yeah..Okay, I am sorry! You are not jealous, what was I thinking!?!!    He said looking serious.

You are insanely jealous! He said and started laughing again.

And why is this funny? I asked looking annoyed.

It's not you, it's me!    He said still laughing frantically.

What?!?   I asked with wide eyes.

It's just that...I can't believe Becky's stupid plan worked!   He exclaimed.

What plan? I asked looking confused.

Well..I wanted to pair you up with June for the dance but Becky said it won't work and so she paired June with Jason! He said casually.

How can you even do that!?!    I asked with frustration.

Dude, I am the secretary of that class remember? Everything was us Mr.Anderson just read out the list we prepared.  he said proudly.

These two were like the evilest creatures I have ever known. I was glaring at him furiously.

Don't stare at me.. I am on your side!  He said smiling.

On my side? So you both were playing cupid all this time? I shot him with a question.

Well..Yeah but see it worked?   He said looking excited.

Did nothing work okay? June is still Jason's partner and I am still the miserable dance choreographer pinning over a girl I can never have!    I snapped again.

Okay.. now it worked! He said smiling brightly.

He was really getting on my nerves. I decided to do what I do best, ignoring my feelings. And so I decided to storm out of that room.

You know what? Forget it! I said and walked away in frustration.

The plan wasn't to make June your partner, The plan was to make you realise what you just said!   He said slowly.

What does that even mean? I asked with annoyance.

You are right! You are pinning after some girl, you can never be with! He said looking serious.

Well..Thank you, For the reality check!   I snapped again.

Hear me out will you? He asked looking slightly annoyed.

Oh, there is more?   I asked as my words were laced with sarcasm.

I know you are being forced into marrying Sharon!  He said suddenly.

I was speechless for a minute there.

Okay, I don't have time for this!   I said with a fake laugh and started walked towards the door.

You can always run but never hide from the truth!  He said firmly.

You don't know what you are talking about! I said with gritted teeth.

Oh, I know..I am just trying to talk some sense into my best friend!   He said angrily.

The room was soon filled with silence. I was standing there expressionless, staring at the wall.

Do you think you live like this? Knowing you gave up on your first love and the last love! He spat.

His words hit me like a heart attack.

Sh-she is not. I shuttered.

I was interrupted when he took his laptop and showed something that changed my world upside-down. It was a picture of Alison with June's parents. I recognized June's parents cause I have seen their pictures in June's dorm room.

Yes.. June is Alison and Alison is June!   He said slowly.

Wh-What? I shuttered again.

All those years ago, She didn't leave town because of you! She was in an accident and she a severe head injury. Due to that trauma, she never recovered her memories. The doctors advised June's parents to let it be that way. Becky came to know about this when she was in high school with June. She said whenever June was questioned about her past, June panicked. June's parents made sure that she was never hunted by questions about her past. He explained patiently.

I was staring at her picture keenly. I was trying to process everything what he just said. Suddenly realization hit me, I remember once when I asked about her middle school, she said she blacked out the most of it. Whenever I asked something about her childhood she knew stuff only what her parents said or made her believe.

I..I can't believe this! I exclaimed.

What do I do now? I mumbled slowly.

Tell her everything! Get the girl man! Liam said with a smile.

I was silent for another minute.

I'll tell her! I said as a small smile appeared on my face.

Liam nodded with a smile.

Day 5 &6 ..

For the next few days, I tried my best to tell her but when I ever I looked at her,I don't know why I hesitated. Our practice sessions turned awkward in no time, well at least for me. I only spoke when I had to give her instructions about the dance steps or something like that. I think even she noticed my odd behaviour. It was horrible, I was never nervous around anyone as much I was around her. I explained the issue to Liam and Becky. Yes, apparently they took the liberty to join me in their little team. They called it Project AJ as if it wasn't obvious enough. Becky came up with this insane idea to ignore June and skip the dance practice session the next day. She said June will go crazy and she will come looking for me. Well, I did what she said since I was in her team (air quotes). It was a horrible thing to do but I had to shut June out according to our plan. So I didn't pick her calls or return her messages. I never for one minute believe that insane plan can work until I got a text from Becky that said June was really coming to meet me. I was literally jumping in joy. We planned the entire thing. I was ready for the surprise date. Well, it wasn't a surprise for me. But then something terrible happened. June didn't show up. I thought I got stood up but then I realized she was the one who wanted to meet me. I knew something was wrong. It was like she disappeared. We couldn't reach her phone, We had no idea where she was. Soon the surprise date turned into a search party. We didn't know where to search for her. We searched for the places she visits often. We were searching for her over an hour, then it turned into a complete disaster when Becky fell down. We rushed to the nearest hospital. The doctors said she broke her leg, It was a total bummer. I was still freaking out about June, I don't know what to do. What if someone kidnapped her? Why was she giving the radio silence? Should I in front of the police? All kinda thoughts filled my mind. Then suddenly I saw June over the distance, she was looking straight at me and I noticed she was smiling brightly. Watching her like that was the best feeling in the world. A huge weight from the heart was lifted. I couldn't explain the joy I felt when I saw her. She ran towards me and hugged me tightly. That was the moment I realized how much big of an idiot I was to think I can live without her. It was impossible. I was totally hooked. I was truly madly deeply, foolishly, completely in love with Alison June Paxton. I don't care to say it aloud anymore. I just want to be with her always.

Now.

I guess, tomorrow is my last chance! I mumbled.
