Chapter 6: Hurting (Part 2)

"Something's bothering you?" Jihyo's reverie was cut when she heard Jongin asking. "You know you can always tell me-"

"How's Soojung and you?" Jihyo cuts Jongin.

"We're good." Jongin answered, smiling fondly. "She's very nice and sweet. I think she'll open up to me anytime soon. Then I guess when that day comes, she'll finally say yes to me!" Jongin smiles widely.

"That's nice..." Jihyo gives him a small smile.

"You know, I've never felt anything like this before. I mean, I'm really happy whenever I saw her. I feel giddy whenever she comes near me. I feel nervous just by looking at her... butterflies will be damned because I feel the whole zoo whenever I'm with her!" Jongin chuckles at the memory of a blushing and smiling Soojung when he whispers sweet nothings to her. He swears it was the most wonderful moment in his life.

"It feels so surreal everytime I'm with her!" Jongin exclaimed.

Jihyo looks at him in awe. She's truly happy for him, now that he find someone who he can get serious with. She'd never thought that there would be a girl who will like the childish, playful and a chicken maniac Jongin, and not just because he's Jongin - the popular jock that everyone knows.

"I'm so happy for you..."

"Thanks." Jongin smiled at her fondly, which Jihyo tries to avoid.

Once again they were in silence, looking at the clear sky. Jongin is silently eyeing his bestfriend, he can sense that she's being a little distant to him.

"Jongin," Jihyo finally speaks, sadness lacing her voice. "Remember when you kicked the soccer ball inside the classroom during junior high, and you accidentally hit the fluorescent light that hits my head?" She asks swaying her right foot, kicking an invisible rock.

"Of course." Jongin smiled at her. "God, you've got no clue how scared I was that time! I thought you'll collapse or something, and worse, I'll be kicked out of that school!" The two of them laughs at the memory.

"I'm also scared that time. I thought my head bled since it hit me right on top of my head."

"I thought you'll be mad at me and transform yourself into amazona and flip me like a rag doll. Just like what Hulk did to Loki in The Avengers movie." Jihyo laughs geniunely this time.

"You know I wouldn't do that."

"I know. And I really thought you'll curse at me when I went near you, but then when I looked at you you're even smiling at me and coolly says that you're okay."

That's true. Jihyo should be cursing and flipping him her middle finger when that happened, but when she looks at him, his eyes were teary and his voice cracking a little as he asks her an apology, her impending wrath suddenly evaporated, thus giving him a smile as she shruggs off and says she's fine.

"I'm still keeping that ugly note that you gave me after you were sent to the detention." Jihyo smiles as she looks at him straight to his eyes.

"Really?" Jihyo hums and nods a yes. "That's really..." Sweet, that's what Jongin wants to say but that's so cheesy, and Jongin isn't cheesy. "...thoughtful of you." Jihyo gave him a small smile.

Jongin throws his now empty can of beer, mimicking how basketball players do whenever they throw the ball to the hoop. But since basketball isn't his expertise, his attempt to shoot the can failed.

"And you call yourself a varsity when you can't even shoot the can inside the bin? It's not even that far!" Jihyo commented.

"Then show me how good you are! Make sure you can shoot that or else I'll make you eat the dust." Jongin said, trying to hide his smile that is gently creeping on his lips.

"Watch me."

Jihyo raised her right hand and release the can as soon as she feels that her angle is perfect to shoot the can. And just like a pro, the can went in the bin smoothly.

"Yes! See that? That's what you called goal." Jihyo boasts as she chuckles.

"You really like to win over me, didn't you?" Jihyo's smiles slowly fades. She didn't know if Jongin meant other things other than that little shooting game they had.

Clearing her throat a little, Jihyo bravely face Jongin and look at him to his brown orbs.

"Jongin?"

"Hm?"

"If I ask you to do something, will you do it for me?"

"Sure. Anything..."

"Then, umm... will you do me a favor?" Jongin nods at her, listening intently. "Let's stop being friends."

Jongin eyes went wide, mouth's agape. He can't understand why Jihyo wants to unfriend him.

"Wha-WHAT?! Did I heard it right?"

By this time, Jihyo's eyes becomes watery. She doesn't want to do this, but she should.

"W-why?! Did I do something wrong? Did I hurt you or something? Tell me so that I can-"

"I'm in love with you, Jongin... that's why..." Jihyo's voice is so soft that it almost came out as a whisper. "I didn't want to feel this way because you're my bestfriend. And as much as I wanted to be always by your side, I can't... especially when I don't look at you the way it should be." Her tears finally fall down. "I can't be friends with you when I wanted you for myself. I don't want to be selfish... not when I'm seeing you happy with Soojung. And the longer I stick with you, the more I'm hurting myself..."

Jongin was baffled. He didn't know what he should feel about Jihyo's feelings for him. He didn't expect that Jihyo, his only girl bestfriend, was in love with him.

"I... I d-don't know what to say..."

Jihyo sniffles as she says, "I didn't mean to fall in love with you, but I did. I didn't know when or how did it start, it just... happened."

"I'm... I'm so sorry... I didn't mean to-"

"It wasn't your fault, Jongin." Jihyo wipes her tears hastily.

Jongin looks down at his lap. He never thought he had hurt her without him knowing. If Jihyo says she's hurting, then how much more whenever he tells her who's he's dating. And damn he even asks her to be his accomplice to make Soojung to be his girlfriend.

"But hey! Don't worry," Jihyo playfully hits his shoulder with her fist, "I can surpass this!" She gives him a small smile though her tears kept on pouring. "It's just that I can't be with you for a while... maybe when I finally get over you, we could be friends again. Although I didn't know when was that... but hopefully it'll be sooner, because I'm sure I'm going to miss hanging out with you." Jihyo tries to smile but eventually failed because of non-stop pouring of her tears.

"Princess-"

"And stop calling me that already!" She playfully glares at him. "It's Soojung's nickname now, not mine. Besides, how can I move on if you keep on calling me that... do you get me?" Jongin wants to say something but when he tries to open his mouth, nothing comes out.

"Also, I won't be able to watch your soccer game next week. It sucks, I know, but you guys will win the game anyway..." Jihyo looks everywhere but to Jongin, and tries to calm herself before saying goodbye to him.

"Hey! I think I should go now since mom told me to come home early. And I think you should go too since you have to go to Soojung's." Jihyo stands up and dusts off her pants. "So... I guess it's time to say goodbye. Take care of yourself, Jongin. And don't eat too much chicken, your cholesterol might shoot up even before you get older." She chuckles, trying to lighten the mood when she noticed that Jongin remains silent. "Goodbye, Jongin..." Jihyo whispers before she turns her heel around.

"I'm not going to say goodbye, Jihyo." Jongin finally breaks his silence and stands up. "I'm not going to say goodbye because I'll wait for you to come back. And I know you'll come back!" Jihyo's eyes gets blurred once again. It takes too much courage for her not to look back Jongin because she knows it'll be much harder to let go of him. "We're still friends, no matter what happen. And I'll wait for you until that day comes and befriended me again..."

"I'll keep that in mind." She said, side glancing him. And with that, Jihyo walks away, tears falls continuously, not minding whether people looks at her.

Author's Note:

So what did you think about the chapters, Mylene?

Anyway, about the incident that happened to Jihyo and Jongin during junior high school, it did happened to me during my first year in high school. And the perpetrator is none other my crush hahaha... talking about clichés!

And yes, he did gave me a note telling me how sorry he was and that he wants me to be his friend since I didn't yell at him or something (well my bestfriend back in high school did the scolding for me since she's aware that I'm not going to do anything to him, hahaha)... I mean how could I if he's almost in tears while asking for an apology?! Unfortunately I lost his note (which is more of like a scratch paper) but we did became friends.

Hope you like this chapter My-my!
