Ch. 61 NO FRICKEN WAY
FYI, that last chapter was a HUGE hint to the series. Maybe not this book, but definitely the later ones. Also, I was informed that not everyone pronounces 'Cara' the way I do, so really it's supposed to be pronounced
'Car-a' when I know some people say 'Care-a'. The first is the one I used in this story.
Ginny was sleeping peacefully on her, rather comfortable, Bond Mate's chest. The fire in the hearth flickered off of their peaceful faces as each were lost in a world of their own. Perhaps they were talking, seated quietly on a tree in a meadow, or maybe they'd challenged each other to a race down the hill. Maybe they were just lying in the sun, enjoying each other's company.
But there was one thing they didn't know.
The red-headed woman standing in the doorway gasped and halted. The man behind her, of course, bumped into her back, nearly knocking his glasses off. "Oh James, they're so cute!" Lily whispered, entering the room. Cara slept tentatively in her mother's arms, her thumb in her mouth. A puff of brown hair has sprouted from her head, and when she opened her eyes you could see a light hazel that James was extremely proud of.
"Who- oh. Why're they on the couch? Didn't want to wake anyone last- oof!" Lily elbowed him in the side before he could continue. "What?" Lily rolled her eyes and walked around the couch, almost cooing at how happy her son looked when he was with his Bond Mate.
"Wow, look at this." Lily kneeled slightly, careful not to drop her baby. "Their hands are... I've never seen them glow this much." She remarked, looking at the two's intwined hands that had fallen off of the couch. Wave after wave of gold pulsated around the room, throwing shadows on the walls. A thin line of light was surrounding the two's bodies, making them have the appearance of being in one of those ancient paintings of gods.
"Well, I wonder why." James rolled his eyes. "You do realize they started dating, right? Probably strengthened the Bond and do not try to say that those two haven't been all over each other at least once." Lily was shocked, looking up at her husband with wide eyes.
"James... You... You actually said something intelligent for once." At this James sneered, "Anyway, should we wake them? We have to take Harry to get his robes, and I told Hermione I'd go with her and Ginny to get their dress robes." James nodded her on, and Liky handed him Cara, getting ready to wake up her son.
But he woke up before she even got near him, tightening his arms around Ginny for a second until he opened his eyes. He saw his parents, but his first priority was to make sure Ginny didn't have any dreams. When she'd finally woken up and answered him, Harry smiled, sitting up and yawning, Ginny barely awake beside him.
"Mum! Dad!" He exclaimed, wrapping his arms around them. The two laughed, joyous to see their only son again. "Oh, can I hold her?" He asked, looking at where Cara was glaring at the window which brought sunlight in the room. Harry could already tell she wouldn't be a morning person, just like her mother.
Lily carefully placed Cara into his waiting arms and the girl gurgled, making Harry panic for a second because he thought she was going to choke or something. But then the baby relaxed, grabbing Harry's thumb and closing her eyes.
Ginny watched with a studious expression, trying to block off the Bond as she didn't want Harry to realize he was getting cuter by the second as he watched his baby sister with loving eyes. The girl opened her lids again, looking around the room and to Ginny, who was sitting right beside Harry. The hazel eyed girl gurgled, pulling the closest thing to a smile she could.
"Aw, I think she likes you!" James cooed, wiping some hair out of his daughter's face. Ginny smiled back, but looked up to Harry's parents with a questioning gaze.
"Why are you two here? Is something wrong?" Harry looked up at his parents, suddenly realizing they shouldn't actually be there. He handed Cara back to his dad, not that he wanted to, he'd like to hold his baby sister all day, though his arms were getting tired.
"Well, you need to go shopping for the Yule Ball, Harry." Lily reminded him, "You'll be going with your dad, and Sirius is supposed to be here soon, while I'll take Ginny and Hermione." Ginny's jaw dropped.
"What?" She asked, and Harry grinned at her.
"This one hates shopping." He pointed to Ginny with his thumb, smirking.
"I- I'm sure I have some dresses in my closet. How about I go write mum? Should take a bit, don't wait on me-" Ginny tried to vault over the couch, but Harry grabbed her waist and stopped her. She screamed when she almost toppled over, but Harry kept her on the couch. "You're supposed to help me escape." She grumbled, finally pulling herself over the back and sitting back down. "Always abet the criminal when she has the power to make your life awful."
"Never heard that saying..." Harry grinned. Ginny glared back.
"Apparently so." She huffed. Lily and James watched the exchange with amused faces, glancing back at each other before James cleared his throat.
"Sorry to interrupt your flirt-fest, but we should really get going." Harry and Ginny turned bright red, "I understand Hermione is waiting in the Great Hall, so, we should probably hurry."
The Bonded reluctantly followed, well, most of the reluctance was from Ginny, and soon they parted ways at Hogsmead, James and Harry going to meet Sirius at the men's dress robes shop, and Lily, Ginny, and Hermione heading towards the line of boutiques that were so pink it made Ginny want to throw up.
"Okay, let's start here." Lily announced, gazing up at a sign that read 'Brightly Lit Dresses Boutique and Salon'. She and Hermione shuffled in, through the slight dusting of snow on the cobbles. Ginny stayed behind for a good thirty seconds, wondering how bad it would be if she took a sharp stone, cut her hair, and paraded to the men's stores where she could hide away under a new name. Then she remembered the Bond, sighed, and reluctantly followed.
The inside was nauseating. Pink fur like wall paper covered the walls, picture frames with photos of small animals and also a few of people were littered around. Dress sketches plagued the wall, getting stranger every two feet. There were dress robes, which Ginny figured she'd get one of those, but then she saw Lily and Hermione ogling at Muggle dresses in the corner.
"Wait, are we getting Muggle clothes or dress robes?" Ginny called, squinting at the lines of frilly outfits.
"Just think about it, Ginny! No one else will really be wearing dresses! Imagine the boys's expressions!" Hermione gasped, looking through the rows.
"I thought you didn't like shopping either!" Ginny exclaimed, pushing some feathers from a strange lilac dress away from her face. She sneezed. "It's awfully dusty back here." They'd migrated to the back of the store. Where most of the dresses were. At the sound of her voice, footsteps came from the back room.
"Ah! Hello!" A trolling voice twinkled. A lady came into view, her hair toppled dangerously on her head, a witch's hat teetering on the top of her golden hair. She wore enough makeup to smother an elephant, but somehow made it look elegant. Ginny guessed she was around twenty or so.
"Hello! My name is Lily, and this is Hermione and Ginny." Harry's mum introduced them, pointing to the girls in turn.
"What pretty names. They call me Prisistance." Ginny only had a moment to contemplate the slightly odd name before the woman said "Prisistance Boyle." Hermione and Ginny exchanged glances.
"Like, Katrin Boyle? Is she your sister or something?" Ginny questioned. The woman shook her head, making her hair wobble slightly.
"Daughter. Katrin is my daughter." She twinkled. Ginny raised her eyebrows, suddenly noticing how similar the two were. Grey eyes, sharp jaw lines, and wide eyes. "Do you, perhaps, know her?" Ms. Boyle asked, looking slightly hopeful.
"Kind of. She doesn't like us." Ginny said. Ms. Boyle's mouth pressed into a firm line, like she didn't agree with the statement.
"Oh, she's just... Shy... I am quite sure she like you." The woman said 'shy' as if it was difficult to choke out. Then, she brightened, waving to the selection of fabrics, "I see you're interested in our Muggle department. We have many wonderful dresses, let me show you around!"
About half an hour later, Ginny was shoved into a dressing room with two dresses. The first, a bright green that had frills around the edges. Ms Boyle liked it, but Hermione was shaking her head so much Ginny thought she might fly away with the breeze.
The second was a dark purple, with a flowing skirt. It was pretty simple, but apparently it looked pretty on her because everyone practically forced her to buy it.
After she bought that, which was actually not that expensive, only twenty five galleons and twelve sickles, Ginny collapsed at the seat at the front of the room, fully ready to go to sleep after Hermione chose her periwinkle dress with sequins. But even after that, Lily and Hermione buzzed around, talking to Ms. Boyle.
The door opened, making a cold gust of air wash over Ginny. She shivered, looking over to where a figure filled the doorway, eyes wide and boiling.
Katrin Boyle.
