Ch. 4
The warm air swept across the two figures cloaks, in the approaching moonlight you could barely see the path they were taking.
Green eyes flickered to hazel ones and the owner nodded. In the dim light, they could see the castle up ahead. With careful steps, as not to alert anyone of their presence, they made their way to the large oak doors.
"When did he say he'd come?" The one on the left with black, unruly hair asked.
"Midnight," The other figure supplied, swinging her red hair over her shoulder and glancing around. "I feel so bad for making Molly watch him so late."
"It's okay Lils. She wants to know what he has to say too." He comforted, putting an arm around his wife's waist.
"James... What if something happens?"
"Then Molly and Bill will incinerate anything that comes close to our little one." James soothed, running his hand through her hair.
"Bill too! He's supposed to be getting good nights sleep before he goes for training. And he's supposed to prepare for Cairo!"
"Cairo?"
"Did you pay any attention in History of Magic? Even Muggle History?"
"No. I just ogled at you the whole time if I wasn't asleep." The man replied with a smirk.
"Shut it, James," Lily said, her cheeks burning. What he did to her...
The oak doors in front of them creaked and started to barely open. "Lily? James?" An old voice called out. James stepped in front of the crack in the door.
"It's us, Professor," James said seriously. The door creaked open slightly more and James squeezed in, followed by his wife who had much less trouble getting through the crack in the door. The doors closed again and they both turned to see a purple night gown hurry around the corner.
They sprinted through the halls of the castle and slipped through the opening the gargoyle provided. James stopped abruptly when the door closed.
"James?" Lily asked, looking back at her husband. He looked up with pleading eyes and pointed to where the tail of his cloak was caught in the closed door. Lily sighed.
"Uh, licorice wands." She tried, thinking really hard but not wanting to embarrass James by going and getting Dumbledore. "Acid pops," No "Lemon drops," Not that "Errr... Chocolate frogs?"
The door slid back open and James fell forward onto the next stair. "Ow," He grumbled.
"James, come on" Lily said impatiently. He scrambled to his feet and they both ran into the office where Dumbledore was, wearing a purple night gown, and a lilac night cap.
"Ah! Mr. and Mrs. Potter!" He said fondly, his eyes sparkling.
"Call us Lily and James, Professor." Lily supplied, dragging her husband to a chair.
"Alright," He chuckled lightly "You two aren't in school anymore, call me Albus." He provided, spreading his arms, palms of his hands out.
"Okay," James said cheerily.
"Lemon drop?" Albus asked when the couple had settled down in their chairs. Lily politely declined but James took one and popped it in his mouth. "So what brings you here on this fine evening... Or should I say morning?" Albus said, glancing at the clock on the wall.
Lily cleared her throat. "Well, we just had Harry's eleventh birthday party today... Er, yesterday. And he told us something that we would like you to confirm." James nodded and continued eating his lemon drop. "Uh... The Weasleys were there, and as you know, they have a daughter named Ginny." She continued, ignoring James who was nodding with every word she said. "Harry said that anytime he sees her, his chest twitches like his soul is trying to dislodge." She provided, twisting the rings on her ring finger.
"Ah," Albus said, scratching his chin. "You think this could be the start of a Bond." James took a deep intake of breath and the lemon drop went with it. He choked and Albus waves his wand, clearing James' airways.
"Thanks," He took a deep breath "Bond?" He asked. Lily rolled her eyes at him.
"Don't you read? Yes, Bond! I thought you knew what I was talking about?" She asked, throwing her hands in the air.
"I thought maybe it was the beginning of something, but not that!" He exclaimed. Lily put her head in her hands.
"What do you think, Albus?" Lily asked, raising her head. It felt so foreign to her, calling him Albus and not Professor.
"I think that it's a possibility." He rubbed his eyes "It sounds like the full Soul Bond hasn't taken place yet, if something big happens, that's the only way to know wether or not they are bonded." He said, steepleing (Literally have no idea how to word that) his fingers.
"So, what are Bonds?" James asked, still confused. Lily rolled her eyes at him and Albus smiled.
"They are when two people, a man and woman most likely, are paired together by something for a task. There isn't much knowledge on it, but we know every couple is paired with a large incident in time. They get special powers, many we still don't know of." He explained, looking back and forth between James and Lily "Some of those things include that their souls combine into one soul, which is what takes place when the whole Soul Bond is happening. They will be able to communicate to each other in their minds, and many receive many other powers. If they are indeed Bonding, of course. If they are, in the Wizarding world, it is equivalent to a betrothal. Not that the two parties would disagree... But that is only until they are older, maybe fourteen, then they are legally married in the Ministry's eyes... But being so young, and their magic not mature, it would have to wait. Each day with each other matures their magical core, so they will have the magic of a seventeen year old at thirteen and so on."
"So, they'll be able to talk to each other without saying anything" James sighed, leaning back in the chair and rubbing his eyes, "Merlin, that will be a hassle."
"Yes... They will also experience their magical cores combining, so their magic will be two times as strong. I'll make sure to tell the teachers here to watch both of them for any magical increases in power."
"Okay," James and Lily said in unison
"Also, they won't want to leave each other's sides, they'll find their comfort in each other. They will suffer from separation anxiety anytime they aren't around each other for a while. And that is all we know for now, most of the records were destroyed in the fifteen hundreds."
"Can't you use the records from after that?" James asked. Albus sighed.
"There hasn't been another Bonded Couple since the fourteen hundreds."
"Four... Fourteen hundreds!" James exclaimed, slack-jawed.
"Is there anything else you can tell us?" Pleaded Lily, leaning forward in her chair. Albus shook his head and sighed.
"If they are Bonding... Would you mind if I took some notes on it?" He asked.
"It's fine with us if it's fine by Arthur and Molly, of course." James replied.
"Alright," Albus sighed, leaning back in his chair. "If that is all,"
"Yes. Goodnight, Albus." James said, standing up and helping Lily up. They both walked out the door and as soon as they were out of the Apparation wards, they aparated to the area outside their own wards and entered the house.
Molly was sitting on the sofa with her head leaning on her hands, asleep next to her son, Bill, who was also asleep. His head was leaned on the back of the couch and his mouth agape, his long legs stretched out before him. Lily walked in front of Molly and shook her lightly.
"We have some information." And they relayed all that Albus had said to Molly and Bill, who had awoken.
"So, they're Bonding." Molly whispered. "Betrothed," Tears gathered in her eyes "Those poor babies..."
"Should we tell them?" Lily asked. Everyone fell silent. "Maybe they're too young to be worrying about this... He said that the Bonding would take place when something big happens... Even then, from what I've read, it will be a while before the full effects take place... The most is two years..." She trailed off and snuggled into James' side.
"I agree... We don't want to put anything more on them right now, if they wish to be together, then so be it." James agreed. Molly nodded and sat up, after being thanked for keeping watch on Harry, she left with Bill on her tail.
"We can't keep it from them forever." James sighed.
"I know, James... I know."
