Ruby's PoV:

After putting in the last bag, I slammed the trunk.

"Thanks so much, Ruby."

I shrugged. "I'm just happy to have you."

She blushed, and I blushed in response to her blush, because it was such a cute blush, and we were both a blushing mess.

"Anyways, let's go kill some time.", I said after the awkwardness.

She nodded. "Yes. Of course."

We both walked to our doors,
and went inside the car.

I closed my door and turned around to look at the others.

"Finally.", Lapis said.

"We weren't in there for that long.", Sapphire responded.

"Whatever. Let's leave already!"

I turned back around, put my hands on the steering wheel, and backed out of the driveway.

"Where do you guys wanna go first?", I asked.

"Bookshops!", Sapphire squealed.

"No!", Amethyst and Lapis said at the same time.

"I hate books."

Sapphire turned around to face the two dyed hair teens. "How can you hate books?"

"Because their so boring..." Amethyst complained, "if you can't say what you need to say in 10 pages or less, then you shouldn't be an author."

Sapphire groaned. "Please, guys. I have to go.", she begged. "Don't ruin this for me."

"No.", Amethyst pleaded.

"Lapis! Peridot loves books– go buy her a series."

Lapis shrugged like she didn't care. "Peri has enough books at her house."

"Yeah but, the more the merrier."

Lapis sat up. "Not for Peridot! She has so many books, that I have to hold some in my locker, and my bedroom."

"Why are they in your bedroom?", Amethyst snorted.

Sapphire sighed hopelessly. "You know in bookshops they don't only just sell books. They can sell other things ya know?"

Amethyst scoffed. "Pfttt. Like what?"

I tuned in, "They have bookmarks and lava lamps. Reading lights, and gift cards. And, hey. They even have a Starbucks inside."

"Starbucks?!", Lapis repeated.

"Yup."

"Kk. Let's go.", Amethyst said happily.

"Amethyst, you just had a donut.", I said.

"Eating a donut doesn't mean I can't have a latte."

"Where is Peridot anyways?", Sapphire asked Lapis.

"I don't know", she said, "probs doing some nerdy things, or working."

"Peridot has a job?", I asked.

"Yeah. She works at a GameStop."

Amethyst snickered quietly. Lapis turned to her. "What? Is that a problem?", she snapped.

"Calm down, bruh. I didn't say anything.", she replied.

Uh-oh. I knew where this was going. Amethyst used to have a crush on Peridot before her and Lapis started dating. Did I mention that already? Every time she talks about Peridot, it gets awkward for them.

"Then what was up with the laugh?", Lapis said more angrily.

Steven had noticed what was going on, and took off his right headphone. "What's going on?", he asked calmly.

"Nothing.", I informed him. I didn't want him to get involved in them fighting.

"Dude. You got triggered 0-100 real quick.", Amethyst responded with a slight attitude. "I didn't mean anything to offend you."

"I'll go back to a 0 when you tell me why you laughed!", Lapis yelled.

Amethyst glared at Lapis. She glared back.

Oh god. I turned up the radio up to a 45. The music immediately shut everyone up.

The cars aroma calmed down after five minutes. Lapis and Amethyst hadn't really gotten along well since her and Peri started to date. They weren't taking to each other for a while, until Amethyst moved on and started dating Pearl. Then everything kind of went back to normal. But Lapis and Amethyst have been arguing more lately. And Lapis gets more offended and defensive towards Amy.

I turned down the music by 30. I took a deep breath. "Are we calm now?", I asked quietly.

I looked back at them. Lapis and Amethyst weren't facing each other anymore, but they both silently nodded.

"Okay. That's good. We're here now, so get out."

I had parked in the parking lot of book shop. It wasn't small but wasn't big.

I opened the door, and grabbed my wallet and car keys. Lapis and Steven hopped out one side, and Connie and Amethyst on the other side.

"Ruby. Can I get something?", Steven asked.

I took his hand as we walked inside. "You can get whatever you want.", I told him.

Steven smiled, and hugged my side. "Thanks! How about Connie?"

"Her too, of course."

Steven let go of my hand, and ran over to Connie, who was walking with Sapphire. "You heard that, Connie? Ruby said you can get whatever you want!"

Connie's face immediately lit up. "Really?!"

I nodded my head.

"Omg ,omg! Thank you so much! I really wanted to read another series for a change."

I gulped. Connie wanted a whole book series? "Sure." Why did I say that?

Connie and Steven both laughed, and ran inside the store. I turned around for Sapphire, but she was long gone inside.

I opened the door and stepped inside the air conditioned store. Lapis and Amethyst were right behind me. "I'm not buying anything for you guys.", I snarled.

Amethyst shrugged. "Meh. Not like I care."

"You better not shop lift anything.", I replied. "I don't want to get kicked out in front of them."

Amethyst gave me a sinister smile. I frowned. "Great. Looks like I'm gonna have to follow you like a baby."

"You don't have to do that!", Amethyst yelled. And she stormed off. But like I said, I followed her.

I shrugged. "Too late."

Sapphires PoV:

I followed Steven and Connie to watch them. I really wanted to walk off, and look for books for myself, but I knew I had a responsibility. Rose trusted me and Ruby.

Steven and Connie were looking through the teen section. Then somehow, I let them wonder to the adult section.

"Hmm. What do you recommend, Sapphire?", Connie asked as she examined the bottom shelf.

I shrugged. "I'd recommend a book called Gone. I read it in the sixth grade– still one of my favs."

Connie brightened up. "Cool. What's it about?"

"It's about a town called Perido Beach. Just like Beach City. And all of a sudden all the adults disappear. Well, to be more clear, everyone over the age of fourteen. And a barrier that can't be broken surrounds the town. Bullies take over, hunger grows, animals mutate, and kids learn they have powers."

Connie looks so hooked in. "Omg! That's sounds really good. I'll go ask the clerk if she has it."

Then Steven walked up to me with a big black book, titled: Fifty Shades of Gray. "How about this book?", He asked all innocent.

I mentally screamed. "Anything but that one!", I said a little too loudly.

"I'm gonna go find a employee.", Connie said. Then she ran off.

I took the book from Stevens hands and placed it on the shelf. "Let's go find something more for your age."

"What's wrong with this book?"

Sweat trickled down my face. "Uh. It's just... a bad book. You know, written poorly."

He smiled and shrugged. "Okay."

I took Stevens hand and we walked to the their aisle. Amethyst was reading a book, which was surprising!

"Amethyst?", Steven squeaked.

She jumped up and dropped the book. "Ah!" She scrambled to pick up the book from the floor. "Uh- I... I was just checking this... book cover. It's pretty cool."

She placed the book back on the shelf and acted like nothing happened. "So... We leaving yet?"

"No. Connie's looking for a book I recommend. And I don't know where Lapis and Ruby are."

Amethyst shrugged. "Well, I wanna leave." She began to walk pass me. "Ruby was following me for like a minute, then I kind of wondered off."

I let go of Stevens hand. "Watch him real quick. I'm gonna go find a book to get."

Amethyst gave me a thumbs up. "K."

*Time skip cuz I'm lazy af*

"So, Connie, did they have the book?", I ask.

"Unfortunately not, so I just got a bunch of bookmarks.", she says happily.

"Oh, well, that's cool too."

Then Ruby comes with Steven from nowhere and taps on my shoulder. "Yeah?", I ask.

"We gotta leave.", she says.

"Why? We just got here."

"Well, my mom came early from work and went home. She called me asking why there were random people in her house."

I put my hands on my face. "Oh great...", I groan. I sigh and look at the door. "Fine. Let's go."
I look over at Connie and Steven.

"Aw, do we have to go?", Connie says.

I nod sadly. "Unfortunately. We can come back another time, I promise."

Connie sighs and puts a book that she was looking at back on the shelf.
"Okay..."

I hold her and Stevens hands and we head to the exit. "Where's Amethyst and Lapis?", I ask Ruby.

Ruby shrugs. "I think they're already waiting in the car."

We go to the parking lot and not surprising, Amethyst and Lapis were already in there ready to leave.

"Finally," Lapis grunts, "I hope I never come back here."

Ruby turns on the car and backs out. "Sorry, Saph. I'll get you something next time."

I shrug. "It's okay. But, thanks, for taking me."

She smiles and I smile back. Then everybody goes to silence.

***

Ruby's PoV:

I ring on the doorbell and after a few footsteps, mom opens the door for me.

"Oh, finally you're here!", she sobs dramatically. "And you brought your friends too!"

They all smile and wave hello as we walk inside.

"Sup, Scarlet.", says Amethyst.

"Hello.", says Lapis.

"Hi Scarlet", says Sapphire.

"Hello!", Steven and Connie both say.

Mom pulls me aside to the kitchen and crosses her arms. "Care to explain why all these people are here?"

"Listen, mom", I start, "Jasper broke her nose and this was the closest place near by. So, I called Rose and others so they can help her."

"Why didn't you call an ambulance?!"

"Jasper begged me not to! She can't go back there.", I yelled.

Mom sighed and shook her head slightly. "You could've at least contacted me first."

"You were at work.", I say.

"Fine," she huffs, "but none of this is my responsibility. And you know we're going camping this afternoon." Then she stops and gives me a sinister smile.

Oh God...

"Why don't we invite them?", she suggests.

"No!", I shout. "Only Sapphire, I already invited her and she agreed!"

"It was your smart move to bring them here, so why can't we bring them to camp?"

"Because they're annoying! They'll ruin everything." I stopped and peeked at Jasper. She was lying down on the couch with a big white band aid on her nose. "And I especially don't want Jasper to come. We're not friends anymore.", I grumble.

"Hey, who knows? Maybe this can help you guys become friends again." Mom goes back into the living room before I can argue any more.

I smack myself in the head. Why me?!

Mom walks up to Rose and they both start talking. What is she saying? Oh no... They're both laughing. Christ, I can't watch. I turn away towards Amethyst who was sitting next to Pearl.

"What's wrong, Ruby?", Pearl asks.

"My mom wants to invite all of you to camp with us.", I groan.

"Camp?"

"That sounds so cool!", Amethyst says. "Please, I wanna go! Please, Rube, please!"

"Shut up!", I say.

Amethyst smacks me on the side of my head. "Ruby! I've never been camping before, you have to let me go!"

"Why do you want to go so bad?", I say coldly. "You don't even like to leave your bed, and you want to go outside the state?"

"I swear I'll be productive.", she says.

"Psh. Good luck getting Rose to let you leave."

Rose stands in the center of the room and clears her throat. "Good news l, everyone! Scarlet was kind enough to invite you all with her to go camping. Including, you, Jasper."

Jasper sits up from the couch confused. "What?"

"You'll have to ask permission from your guardians, however.", Rose says.

I send death glares at my mom who's smiling across the room. She does this on purpose to torture me.

"So, you can all go to your homes and pack if you're interested in going. Please make sure to ask your parents, Lapis."

Lapis nods and takes a sip of water. "Sure. Can I invite Peri?", she asks.

"Of course.", mom says and I glare at her once again.

"Well then, off you go." Rose goes to the table to grab her purse and medical kit, but Pearl already had it in her hands.

I stomp up to my mother who was casually drinking tea in the corner. "Mom! Why would you do that?!", I shout.

"There your friends, sweetie. You should be happy about this." She pinches my cheek and I flush with anger. "Now go upstairs and get ready in the next hour. Help Sapphire too. I'm gonna go upstairs to pack as well."

She puts down her cup of tea and heads for the stairs. "And you're absolutely adorable when your mad, honey!"

I groan and dump the tea in the sink. She's pure evil...
But, she is right about one thing: They're my friends, and I should be happy.

Yeah, I'm not really proud with this chapter but I just did what I can to publish a new thing for you guys to read. The next chapter will be exciting, I guess... But, sorry for not posting a lot :( I like to procrastinate. I'm sorry if there's any errors or the chapter was boring.
(I saw Moana and the songs are stuck in my head :3)
