Chapter 4: Welcome
Tabs was greeted by the smell of bacon when she reached the bottom of the stairs. She really hadn't realised how hungry she was until now.
She spotted James' dark head bustling about the bright, open kitchen as she entered. She watched him for a while as he ran around the kitchen, opening cupboards, stirring pots and throwing spices left, right and centre. He seemed immensely concentrated and Tabither had to cough loudly a couple of times to get his attention.
"Oh Tabither! Sorry, I didn't notice you there!" James laughed as he reached into another cupboard, grabbing three plates. He then set them out along the breakfast bar and gestured for Tabs to take a seat. She settled in the seat nearest the windows and watched again as James placed bacon, eggs, gammon, hash browns and baked tomatoes onto the plate in front of her.
"Enjoy!" James beamed as he turned back to his stove full of pans. Tabs too a bite of the gammon and felt it's warmth enter her body.
"This is amazing!" She exclaimed, diving into the rest of the meal.
"Glad you like it" James laughed in reply.

Tabs was half way through her second plate of James' delicious food when a boy entered the room. He didn't notice her as he headed to the fridge and buried his head inside.
He was cute. Very cute. He had messy ash brown hair that lay loosely in curles on his head. He was just shorter than James (who was by no means short) and he had broad shoulders that pushed together as he leaned forward to get something at the back of the fridge.
When he leant back, he was holding a carton. He turned around and had just brought the carton to his mouth when his gaze fell on Tabs. His eyes were a dark chocolate colour that showed his curiosity at the guest in his house. His eyes then changed to recognition and then amusement.
"You must be the danger girl! I'm Jackson, but everyone calls me Jax." He extended his hand towards Tabs. Danger girl!? What does that mean? She wondered as she met his hand with her own.
"I'm Tabither. You can call me Tabs" she replied, giving him a warm smile. He returned it.
"Morning son!" James said, turning to face the two teens. He then spotted the carton is Jax's hand. "Jackson Matthew James Peters! How many times have I told you not to drink straight from the carton! Get a glass!" James scolded, snatching the carton from his son's hand.
"Remind me never to eat from the fridge after you" Tabs said, a small grin on her face. Jax turned to her, his expression mirroring hers. Then he burst into laughter. His laugh was light, care-free. Why is he so perfect!? Tabs screamed in her head. She didn't let this opinion show however, and joined in laughing with him.
"You are something else" Jax breathed between giggles. "Something different."
Sorry. This was kind of a short chapter. I hope you enjoyed it!
What do you think of our new boy Jax? Quite a charmer isn't he? Definitely one to watch out for 😂
