Wait.. what??

Those three words coming out of Klaus Mikealson's mouth made me think of every moment since the day I met. There was not a single moment where I can tell if he was just genuinely concerned and cared or he was really in love with me the whole time.

He is an expert in masking what's underneath him. But all this confession, to what end?

"You heard me." He snaps me out of reverie. I didn't realize my mouth was hanging open.

"And why do I believe you?" It was fazing me.

"You know this for a long time." He clarifies. "I could see the difference in your behavior."

"And yet you rejected me." I scowl. "I opened my heart out, you broke it. There is no way I feel the same as I did before."

"You do!" He argues, feeling confident. I swallow. "You still do. I can tell."

"You can tell nothing!" I withdraw my eyes off him.

"You are acting childish."

"And you are acting way out of legal boundaries. The day I'm getting out of here, forget Edward, I'll sue you."

"I can assure you won't do it." He says. I wish I could wipe the smug look off his face. "And I have don't have to make any effort. You'll do it on your own."

"You wish!" I challenge him.

"Why are you doing this? I'm trying to help you. What is it that is making you hate me?" He sounds insecure.

"There is a list that has no ending," I tell him, moving away from him. The window is left open, and cold air is making the room chilly. Snow is falling and no matter how beautiful it looks, I can't take my attention off him. His confession is growing on me. I feel like abandoning everything and live for the moment that I've waited since I was told.

"Is this about Thea?" He queries, taking me sightly stunned. Last time I told him, he hesitated and I could feel he was trying to shut down the topic.

"It is more than Thea. It is about me."

"You are comparing yourself with her, aren't you?"

"And why shouldn't I?" I speak honestly. "What you are doing right now proves that my fate is just like her."

"You know nothing about her!"

"I do."

"You trust Roseline over me." He squeals. "A girl who works for my half brother."

"Yes. I have every reason to believe her."

"She is convincing I see."

"You should see where you fail, Klaus." I sigh, stepping closer to him. "Look there is still time. Things can go back to the way they were. Let this go. Now you know what Edward wants. You can end this without messing things more up."

"I don't know what Edward is planning. I just have a guess. He wants Rose to be part of my life and company together to do something very drastic. Unfortunately, I won't let either of them. After marriage, she would be bound to me and I'm gonna make her tell him exactly what I want him to know."

"You want to use her, just like Edward." I could feel the disgust searing in my voice. "How sick can you both get?"

"This is about not me or him, this is about the people I love. Kol, Rebekah, my selfish parents, and now you." He tries to reasons with me but he sounds diabolical and absurd.

"It's not just about us and your family. Someone else's life is at stake too."

"Why everything circle backs to Rose?" He saunters back, running his hand into his hair. "Why are you protecting her? What she could possibly tell you to turn you against me?"

"It's you who turned me against you!"

"No, this is exactly what they want. Edward is using her to manipulate you into hating me. You know what, I'm not going to wait anymore. This has to end. The chase has gone way too long. I can't wait till she turns my own brother and sister against me!"

"And what about her sister?" I angrily shout.

"I don't care what happens to her sister or whatsoever."

"Well, you should. You know her."

His eyes stop at me, gazing confusedly. I have a feeling I should tell him. Maybe there is a part that regretted what he did to Thea and then maybe he will help Rose get out of this mess.

"What do you mean?" He snaps.

"I mean Thea. She and Rose are related. They are sisters."

His reaction was priceless. "Rose is fake. Her sister is—"

"Charlotte Collins." I finish for him. "Rose is Charlotte."

"You must be joking because all of that I was forced to do to protect her sister. Rose can't be her."

"Protect what?"

He shakes his head, rapidly pacing around the room. My instincts tell me he is either confused more than ever or he is regretting about something.

"Thea." He answers. "She was the one who demanded to be out of my life. And I had to do the horrible thing without getting her sister's life in trouble."

"I don't understand, Klaus."

"Because you can't." He stops. "I thought I was prepared for everything  Edward was planning but he always has been one step ahead of me."

My confusion is overwhelming. "What are you saying? I have no idea what you are talking about."

"Let me tell you then." He expels a heavy breath. "Thea Collins came into my life as my new PR. Her dedication toward work was inspiring. She was an ambitious and passionate woman. That is how she had my most attention apart from my work. Soon we were close and fell for each other. I knew Edward was a nasty rival but I had no idea he had attacked my company internally through her. I blindly trusted her and never bothered to look into her life. Edward was manipulating her into dissolving my company but Thea retreated back and told me the truth before anything disastrous took place. I was angry but eventually came around and forgave her. We decided to move on with our life together without any worries. But there were certain things even she wasn't aware of. Like her sister and Edward's meeting. Behind's Thea's back, Edward was creating a backup in order to keep her control and she happens to break the most important rule: Never fall for me.

If Edward knew Thea confessed, Charlotte would be in huge trouble  To protect her, we couldn't be together and we also couldn't just leave things away without tipping off Edward.

So Thea came up with a solution. A way to get out of my life without effecting her sister's. We had to create a scandal to distract Edward from knowing about our feelings. So she tarnished her reputation. Our story was a bad ending."

He pauses while I was processing everything. My gut told me there was more to the story and yet I didn't convince myself enough to believe.

He silence followed for the next few moments. He continues. "That is why I was so cold to you for so long. I surround myself with different women to keep me away from thinking of her. I only brought you into my life to fill the void but your striking resemblance and challenging personality drew me close to you again."

"So, you love me because I'm a replacement for Thea." I accuse. Of all, this was the hurtful conclusion I could draw.

His gaze matches mine. "No! Not anymore. That is why I pushed you in the beginning."

"And that makes a difference, how?"

"Yes, you are full of light and happiness. I wanted someone to make me feel those things. With you, I felt, bit by bit, day by day. So you tell me, do you regret coming into my life?" He questions which shocks me. There were times when I did felt tings of regret but I can't shake away the feelings that yearned throughout this year. For a long time, I kept guys away from my life and he managed to flood my heart with love for him. Klaus was never my type but somehow he's the only one I want. "Do you?"

"No!" I hope I'm giving the right answers. "I don't regret. But since everything is cleared out between us and I don't feel mad at you, you can let me go."

His eyes flicker. "This is not the point of the conversation."

"Okay, so tell me what are you gonna do next? Now you know Rose is Charlotte and she got caught up between two brothers. Are you still up for using her just as Edward?"

"I'm nothing like Edward." He implies it.

"Says the guy who is ready to marry a girl he doesn't love." I can hear the sarcasm in my own voice. Bet he failed.

"Then I'm gonna come up with a new strategy." He states. "Rose risked her trust with her boss for you which means she isn't fond of Edward. She would gladly betray him. So I have an advantage. I can use it to turn the table."

"Well, it's not just Edward she hates. It's you, too. Like me, she doesn't know it was Thea's decision to create a scandal about herself. She holds you responsible. "

"I'll convince her just like I did to you."

I laugh. "She's not in love with you but I can be helpful in that matter."

He twitches his brows and he looks damn cute. God, my anger has evaporated so soon.

I explain. "Rose trusts me. She will believe me if the truth comes out of my mouth. With her support, we could find anything against Edward. Moreover, I can get the hell out of this hell hole."

" You have to be here, protected. Leaving you outside is risky. Edward has eyes and ears all over the city. Besides, I know what I have to do."

"I don't take orders from you. And I have a strong feeling whatever you are planning is not good."

"Leave that part to me, love!" He smirks. Frak, so cute, again.

"Klaus, please. I want to get out." I calmly request him. This stupid place suffocates me.

He bites his lips, thinking deeply. I only pray. "Fine. Just this once. Then you are coming back until I figure out a permanent solution."
