Chapter 63

"This is the 9th time for a phone call and 17 times for a visit!" Mom shoved her phone in her jeans and draped the blanket around me just after I sit on the couch. I had another three-day rest, twice doctor check with barely any difference in my health. I still have a fever.

Mom curses under her breath as she has been bothered by media for so many times. We are getting calls, people waiting outside our home to take my interview on the matter but mom had rejected every call and denied every request.

"It will be over soon! They are gonna give up." I pushed the remote button hard and mom went away to the kitchen to prepare soup for me. I simply switch on the tv and watch the news.

Mom had told me that she had seen twice the news about me and my boss, but not me. I hope to catch a glimpse of it. I flip through different news channels but it isn't there. It has been a week after all.

I flinched when Mom angrily tossed the basket in which she was washing the vegetable because the bell for our home rang again.
"These shameless money eating people won't give up. They don't understand the meaning of no!" She swears loudly.

"Ignore it!" I mumbled in annoyance and switched to the Cartoon network to watch Tom and Jerry. Eating popcorn while stuffed in a warm blanket and watching my favorite show feels very good.

But looks like the doorbell isn't going to stop. Ding ding ding!!!!

Mom, who has picked back the basket she tossed at the corner of the sink, now was cutting them. She huffed in annoyance, rolled her sleeves up and came out of the kitchen. Her lips were curled in anger, cursing continuously coming out. She is very angry now and I am sure that the reporter outside our door is going to have one hell of a deafening scolding.

Mom quickly sprinted down the stairs and opened the door. I shift in my couch as if it would make any difference but I wanted to hear how she rats them out.

But it was odd. Instead of shoutings, it was quiet whisperings.

I couldn't figure out anything but mutterings were clearly happening. Who could be now? My brain was already anticipating when I hear footsteps of two people. I looked up to see one familiar face.

"Mr castor?"

Mr. Castor is wearing a gray suit with shiny boots, and his blonde hair combed perfectly. He smiles at me in a very content way that I had an urge to swallow.

I spoke returning the smile. "I'm fine, Mr. Castor. It is really nice of you to come but you didn't have to come and personally see me." I tried to sound genuine and thankful as I could.

"Actually your mother had informed me a few days ago about your well being but I had to come. We have something important to talk about. It's about your job and boss."

I quickly loosened my blanket and asked. "What happened to the boss? Is he fine or okay? We he attacked again? Is he-"

"Nothing like that had happened!" He calms me down while I was surprised at my own behavior. "I think before we get into details I should start from the beginning."

"I think not!" Mom interrupted. "You don't have to do this!"

"What is going on here? Is there something you both know but not me?" I ask.

"She has to know!" Mr castor told my mom. She looked disappointed but he turned to me.

"It's time you should know who I am. So you won't have to call me Castor when we are not seen?"
.
"I'm story but I didn't understand a bit!" I am a lot, confused.

Mom interrupted once again as she sat beside me, and put her hands over my shoulder. "Sweetheart he is someone you are related with. I thought I would ever face him after everything. But I had no idea you were sort of working with him."

Okay, now I explode. "What the hell is going on! And Don't say something rubbish like he is my lost father or whatever. His resemblance is making me tense up."

"No he isn't, " mom tried to control me as I have shoved her hands away from me, " but a little closer. "

My eyes flicked at the man and he spoke. "I am Albert Forbes. A name my parents gave. I'm your father's little brother."

"Shut up! Just shut up and get out. Anything but not this bullshit and mom you are believing him. You once had told me that you never met dad's family and now you believe him."

"My sweet Caroline. I'm sorry but I have lied to you, a lot." She said in apologetic tone but it had no effect on me. I was rather pissed.

I push my blanket away as I feel my blood boil. "Now you need to shut up too, mom. This is just too much. I've had enough of your lies. You first hid the fact about our loan. Then you go behind my back instead of asking me about my boss and his life. And now this family crap. My head is spinning like hell. Just say this is some sort of joke. "

"I wish if it was!" She turned to him. "You see. I told you she isn't ready and she never will be!"

"Her life is in danger." I hear Mr. Castor or whoever he is said to mom.
" That is the most important thing for me right now. I can't just wait and see another family of mine getting burned in this stupid fight of two rivals. "

"What do you mean by danger, Albert?" Mom sound super alert at this. And so am I.

However, he looked surprised. "What do you mean by that? Don't you have any idea! Didn't Caroline told you anything about Edward blake?"

Mom turned to me, looking scandalous while I averted my gaze from her. "Who is this Edward guy. Never heard of him. Caroline, what is he saying? Wait-do you know who's behind this attack?"

"NO!" I denied.

"She's lying, Elizabeth." Mr. Castor stared. "Caroline, what do you think is important?"

"What is important is my job! And if you think I had not thought of it, then trust me I have. There are so many reasons why I'm stuck to it. I haven't applied for training. This year of mine is now waste already and then we have such a big headache that only my job can get rid it of. So I need it. If Edward is powerful then so are Mikealsons. I know this and boss helped me survive this whole attack."

"And who do you think got you in the first place? Mikealsons!! Why do you think I quit Edward and joined Mikealsons in the first place? To keep an eye on you."

"I don't need any protection. I'm not a baby!" I yell.

Mom spins me around so I will look at her. "So you knew and you didn't even tell even when I asked you back in the car."

"Yeah because I didn't want to scare you."

"Looks like you both have a lot of explaining to do!" Mr. Castor commented.

However, mom snapped. "I think WE HAVE a lot of explaining to do cause I wasn't planning to tell her anytime soon."

"MOM!!!! I'm still here! How could you even say that?"

"You can shout how much you want but you should know everything from the beginning because if your job is serving people like them then I won't allow and you need to know why so you can decide for yourself."

I rolled my eyes dramatically as I sit back on the couch, followed by him.

"Since childhood what I have told you about your father was something everyone would describe as a bad person. An alcoholic and abusive husband. But he wasn't. Now I know what exactly your thoughts are, Caroline but that was the only thing I could ever tell you. Your father, Bill was the best partner I could have in the entire world. I was a sophomore in college when I met him. Since I was fond of books, I use to spend my free time in a library near my college. That's where I met him. He was the librarian's son. We use to see each other from far and a year later, we finally spoke. Soon, we started dating and I left my studies after finishing college to marry him.

He had told me that I don't need to do any job. And I believed him. And who wouldn't? He uses to bring me costly gifts, take me to expensive restaurants. So, I thought he was financially strong but I had no idea where his money came from!

After, our parents agreed, we married each other. I considered myself the luckiest woman as he was exactly what every woman wishes for.

He was loving, caring and barely fought to me. A year you were born. And with that so many worries. Bill wouldn't sleep or eat properly. He, in fact, would disappear sometimes for a day or two. And every time I ask him, he lied that he was on a business trip for the company he worked for.

A few months later, he came in panic and told me to pack our stuff because we have to move. I asked and again got a lie in response. He told me his company is opening the head center in Brooklyn and he is the head chief. We moved with you. Till then I never visited his work because he has strictly told me but after moving to Brooklyn, I was suspicious of his strange behavior and that's when I came to know that there is no company and everything was fake.

When he returned, I confronted him. He hid everything as long as he could but he had to finally tell me because everything was out on control. You were in danger. We were in danger. Your father told me that he is an agent for businessmen who deal with illegal supply of weapons to bad guys. And not just him, his brother, him, too. Both of them were engaged in these kinds of activities and none of us knew, neither my parents, not theirs. Before marriage, they weren't deeply engaged but connected to a lot of people. But after we got married, your father and Albert started taking big orders." Mom stiffened and looked away as tears welled up in her eyes.

This time, Mr. Castor took the lead.

"And your father made a big mistake. He hadn't changed his identity when he made his first big order. You see Caroline when people engage in these kinds of things, they have to stay hidden especially when they have a family to look for. Bill made the exchange but it turns out the stuff was fake and they have been created by the other party. When they demanded the money they had paid, those people denied and the blame was put on Bill. The weapon exchange amount was around 87 million so it was more than enough for those bad guys to kill Bill. That is why he was worried as Elizabeth was two months pregnant.

Bill knew he was stalked by the people he worked for and he and you would be tracked. So just after you were born, he decided to move from our hometown here.

And he did. But he couldn't get rid of them as they knew his real name. So searching him wasn't that hard. I was helping your father but it was of no use. He was not afraid to die but he couldn't die and leave you alone. So the best thing he came up was abandoned you and went on complete hiding. "

Mom's face was wet with tears. My eyes were teary too. She said afterward. "You were not even three years old when your father disappeared. He showed up a few times but only for the next few months and then never came back. And neither did he."

"I was recognized too. Bill had asked me to watch over you but I couldn't. I was already into these things."

"Then mom why did you lie about my father? You told me he was bad for you!"

"I didn't have a choice. The first time you asked me about your father when you were five. I didn't want you to miss him because I had no whereabouts of him. The only way to keep you quiet about this was by telling bad things about him." Mom explained.

"So where is he now?" I ask, crossing my finger.

Mr. Castor went pale and sad. "I'm sorry but he died a few years back. Those people got him. Your mother seems to be aware of it."

"Yes, I am. I heard about it months later in the news when his name was taken as a dead terrorist. Your father was blacklisted. Normal people weren't aware of it but the government knew. So you see how things turned out for him. I don't want that for you because if a businessman is capable of killing his rival then he can go to any limits to finish it."

I was silent for the first time because I had no words for this. I'm feeling so many emotions at the same time. My father was an agent of illegal weapon supply to the terrorist and he is dead. Then what is the point of calling him a good husband anyway? What should I consider him?

My mom was right. I wasn't ready for this and I think I would never have been. This is just so much!

"Caroline!" Mr. Castor spoke. "I know how you are feeling now but you have to know this that you don't deserve that life. This much exposure could be dangerous to your mom, too. Bill is surely dead but remembers those killers had almost got you and your mom last time and revenge never stops. People like them enjoy killing and they would kill you both if anyone came to know who your father was. So think before you make your decision. And I can assure you that Edward blake has eyes on you."

"How can you say that?"

"Because I use to work with him. I think I have told you and Niklaus Mikealson when we first met."

"So you left the Blakes to work with Mikealsons for me."

"Yes! Without a doubt. Actually, I wasn't aware of you and Elizabeth for years. Honestly, I have forgotten about you both. And after so many years I saw your picture in a file. It was on Edwards' desk. I was there for the discussion of our casino project when he talked about Niklaus and that he was hiring someone. There were two files. One of them was about you. "

"How did he know about this? Aren't these things kept confidential?"

"I think someone from Niklaus company told him. But anyway, when I saw your photo and details, I knew it was you. My niece. And all of a sudden I had the urge to meet you and see you. But I was ashamed. I never looked back at you or her to ask how you both have been. Edward was thinking of buying the girl who gets to become the PR to spy on him. So I had already left an mail to do the casino project with Mikealsons in case you were chosen. And then you were so I quit. And now I know how much Edward wants to harm you because you stood up against him. And he is a bad guy. A very bad guy"

"But my boss is not a terrorist. This is different."

"What makes you think this is any different? I don't know much bout Mikealsons but they aren't very innocent. And this is about the exposure of you two. Have you any idea how much I have tried and made sure that none of the news channels get your photograph!"

"Well, it's not gonna be a big issue because my boss,'s father also doesn't want this to be any big. He is as worried as you. It's just the reasons may vary."

"I don't care about what they do or not!" Mom shouted. "I'm taking you tomorrow at work and you will be signing your resignation."

"I can't resign without giving notice a month before. That's against the policy. "

"You don't have to worry about that, " he says confidently. " but you have to quit and about your loan, it's my responsibility now. You don't have to worry about it."

"And I'll go with you tomorrow. Let me see how they won't let you resign." Mom flared in anger.

"You don't have to. I'll go by myself. "

"No, you are not going alone."

"If you come with me then I'm not gonna sign on the resignation paper," I shouted back.

"Fine, but come back without any bad news."

"I will!" Sadly, I murmured.
