The Party
So, today is the day of the party and I just don't care. I'm not looking forward to being around annoying rich kids. But I am going and that's only because Sadie is going and I don't trust Ripley. Even though he bought my friends and I a lot of stuff, Ash spent the most, he was really taking advantage of it. CC, Sadie and Kit were spending the time they had before the party getting ready. I think Sadie said something to treating them to a spa day. Ash is probably sleeping and I have no idea where Wyatt would be. I'm not sure if he has a girlfriend or not if if he's just hooking up with random girls. He pretty much quiet around everyone else unless it's necessary to talk. Oh and did I not mention that I get to work today. I already Mallory I had to leave early and she was okay with it. So, I'm at work and for a Saturday, it's kind of slow. I mean that could be due to the weather, it looks like it's going to storm. Today I just decided to wear my party outfit kind of ripped jeans with a grey skull shirt, brown boots and a silver ring.
"Dude just calm down, it's not like there's a hurricane coming." Jeff said.
He noticed that I looked nervous and I am, but not that much. 'm just nervous about this stupid party and I know earlier I said I didn't care, but lets face, I do. I still don't want to go, but I also don't want anything bad happening to Sadie. And finally, no, I don't like her.
"Nah, I'm going to a rich kid party tonight. Someone that I know is going to be there and I just don't want her to get hurt. I think her boyfriend is a tool." I replied.
"Sounds like you like her." He pointed out.
I shook my head, "Hell no! She's a spoiled rich girl, I hate her."
"Whatever you say. I don't get into people's business."
"Same here."
He stood up, "Then why were you asking about my personal life the other day?"
I looked at him, not thinking her would remember that, "Uh, I was just um curious."
He just looked at me and then sat back down. It still bothers me that my manager lied or maybe she didn't. I don't know. Does Jeff have a kid or is he telling the truth? I don't know and it really bothers me. I hate that it does, I hate that I want to know what's going on in my co-worker's life and I hate that I care so much about someone that I hate. I thought school was stressful. Two girls walked in, it were the two rich girls that were hanging out with Ripley that one day. Um, Brooklyn and Samantha I believe. Samantha was wearing a plaid skirt with a black cami crop top, white converse and a grey guy jacket. I wonder if she has a boyfriend. Brooklyn was wearing a Mickey Mouse tank top with jean shorts, light blue Vans and a red umbrella.
"Lanny?" Brooklyn looked at me not so confused.
"Yeah, I don't live a luxury style of not working." I added.
"I'm not judging, but I do want a vanilla soft serve cone with rainbow sprinkles." She replied with a smile.
"Jeff, mind helping me out?" I asked.
He shrugged and got up, making her cone. I looked Samantha.
"Oh um, strawberry in a cup." She replied.
Jeff and I finished the orders and gave it to the girls, who were eating here. They were talking about the party. I couldn't help but listen.
"My mom is so angry that I spend only $29 on my shoes for the party and I'm like that's so stupid. I liked the shoes, they were online with free shipping, what a deal!"
Why would her mom want her to spend more?
"How much was your outfit all together?" Samantha asked.
"$4,139."
I choked on my water, the two looked at me.
"You okay, kid?" Brooklyn gave me a weird look.
I nodded and went to my own business, which was listening in on their conversation.
"So, when do I get to meet your boyfriend? Is he coming to the party?" Brooklyn smiled at Samantha.
"I don't know. He got invited but I'm not sure if he's going to come. Even if he does, he wants our relationship to be a secret."
"What a pig." She rolled her eyes.
"Aren't you hooking up with a guy that sleeps with a lot of girls?"
"I mean, we agreed to it. Not to be tied down."
"That guy sounds like a pig. How many girls has he slept with?"
Brooklyn shrugged, "He doesn't talk much."
"Oh well, even if my boyfriend comes, he's not a rich kid, so it'd be hard to be an actual couple anyways."
I wonder who they're talking about. Why am I so curious, I know I shouldn't be.
"Leave it alone, Lanny. Plus, isn't it time for you to go?"
I looked at the time and it was. I took off my apron and left. I went back home, where I was stopped my mom. I rolled my eyes.
"Where were you?"
"Work. Now excuse me, I have to get ready for a party." I moved her out of my way.
"What party?"
"A rich kid party, with my new, rich friends. I ditched Ash."
She bought it. I can't believe she didn't see through my sarcasm. Or maybe she did and she just hates Ash so much that she wanted to believe it. Who knows, I guess we'll find out when he comes to pick me up. All I had to do was put on a grey blazer to make it a semi-formal outfit, charge my phone for a bit and then I'm good to go. About an hour later I got a call from Wyatt saying he was outside and Ash was about to knock on the door. I quickly put on my blazer, grabbed my phone and ran down the stairs. My mom was kind of excited to see my new rich friends. She waited by the door. Someone knocked on the door and it was Ash. He was wearing kind of ripped black jeans with a graphic design shirt, a demin jacket with a grey hood, a polka dotted tie, black belt, grey dressy shoes and a really expensive silver watch.
"Did Ripley buy you all that?" I was a little shocked.
He nodded, "Yeah, pretty much. The watch was $9,000."
"Holy crap!"
Ash looked inside my house and saw my mom, who looked pissed, "Ah! Momma Sophia!"
"Get out of my house." She stated.
"Right on! Fight the power!" He said with a smile, "Lets go Lanny."
My mom was about to say something, but I quickly ran out to Wyatt's car. Wyatt was wearing black pants with a chain, a light blue button down shirt with some sort of design on the pocket and black converse. We picked up CC and Kit and then we were off. CC was wearing a colorful dress with so many different patterns on it, black converse, a leather jacket and black cross earrings. Kit was wearing A blue skirt with a black leather buster, black converse, a gold cuff and an owl necklace. We got to Ripley's house and his house is huge. I knew he was rich, but didn't know he was this rich. We walked in and right away was greeted by a girl with brown hair and dark brown eyes. She was wearing a black Gothic dress, black boots and a bat necklace. There's no way this girl is rich.
"Hello! I'm Laura, welcome to my home, if you steal anything I punch your nipple." She said with a smile.
"Wait. Your home?" I asked.
"Did Ripley not tell you that he had an older step sister?"
"Nope!" I smiled.
"Yeah, figures, he doesn't like to talk about me. I'm too 'weird' and not stylish enough to be rich."
"What are you talking about? I love that dress!" Kit smiled.
"Thank you! I got it on sale, but don't say that around these kids, they'll have a panic attack."
"I take it you weren't always rich?" I asked.
"Nope! My mom married his dad and his dad makes bank every day."
"Well, you seem a lot cooler than Ripley." I pointed out.
Just then Ripley walked up to us with Sadie and a smile.
"Happy you guys could come!"
"Well, you spent a lot of money on us, we felt obligated." Ash replied with a smile.
Ripley took that as a joke, but by all means, he wasn't joking. He seriously hates everything related to Ripley. Even his clothes. Ripley was wearing tan pants with a black button down shirt, a smart watch and a dark blue belt with black converse. Sadie was wearing a white dress with a cherry pattern on it and a black belt in the middle of it, pink converse and a pink and white flower necklace. She looked great. Ripley's hand was slowly lowing to her waist and she looked so uncomfortable. I should stop it, but then everyone would think that I like her, which I obviously don't. I shrugged it off and walked with Ripley. CC and Ash were with me. Kit went snooping for guys and Wyatt said he had to look for someone. I wonder if... No that's stupid, he can't be a pig. It's Wyatt. I looked all around this house and I was too scared to to touch anything, I might break something and I don't think that would be good.
Ripley turned to us, "Sadie and I are going to my room, feel free to make yourself comfortable."
They left and Sadie did not look like she wanted to go. CC and ash both said they were going to the food, I decided to find the other two. I was walking around and saw Wyatt talking to Samantha. Is he her boyfriend? Samantha was wearing a light green floral print dress with a silver crown ring and white sandals. She was playing with her hair and had a smile. I could barely hear that, but I did hear this.
"I'm so happy you came!" She said happily.
He is. I can't believe it. Why? I moved a little closer to try and hear them better.
"Yeah, Sammy, about us. It's definitely not going to work. Keep my stuff, I don't care." He's so cold.
"What?" She was so confused and sounded so sad.
I can't blame her, how could someone be that cold?
"I like someone else, a lot."
The weirdest thing is that I don't think he knows that he's being really mean. I think he's just saying the truth and doesn't realize that hurts. It's like he has no empathy or sympathy. Is Wyatt a sociopath? That would explain a lot actually.
"Oh. Well, cool." She walked away.
I decided to follow Wyatt to the backyard, but instead I was stopped. I heard someone crying in the bathroom. I knocked and noticed it was unlocked. The person who was crying was Kit. She just looked at me. I looked back.
"Get out, Lanny!" She shoved me and locked the door.
Well, alright. I was going to keep following Wyatt, but I decided to look around. I walked by a bedroom and heard a girl say no multiple times. The I heard the guy's voice and realized it was Ripley. I knocked and he answered.
"Lanny, how are you? Enjoying the party?" He asked with the door slightly open.
I slowly nodded, "Is everything alright."
"Just a friendly game of go fish." He added and shut the door.
I thought I heard Sadie say help in the back, but I wasn't sure until she texted me SOS. I tried to open Ripley's door but he locked it. I ran over to the food, Ash is pretty strong and I thought he could break down the door. I asked him to and he was waiting to break something in this house. He slammed through the door where Sadie was trying to get Ripley off of her.
"Oh, that's why the door was locked. Well, I'm going to leave you two to it!" Ash said with a smile and went back to the food.
I was not expecting him to understand the situation, so don't get offended, he is actually an idiot. I pulled Ripley off of her and punch him in the face.
He looked at me with blood dripping from his nose, "Are you serious? Get out of my house."
"Not without Sadie." I added.
"She likes it here, isn't that right dear?"
She shook her head.
"No. You like it here, we talked about it." He seemed to be very controlling.
I saw the look in Sadie's eyes, she really wanted to leave, but was too scared to say anything. I wasn't paying attention to Ripley and before I knew it, we were outside. He punched me, I punched him back. Ash ran out and started to fight with Ripley. That gave me time to go back and get Sadie. I grabbed her and tried to leave through the front, but all the rich kids were blocking it. So, we had to leave through the back. Ripley noticed I was leaving and ran up to me.
"No hard feelings, right?" He asked with a smile and multiple bruises on his face.
"Fuck off." I shoved him.
He shoved me back.
"Stop fighting!" Sadie yelled.
"Right, lets stop fighting. You should respect me, I bought all of you stuff and if we forget about this, there's more stuff on the way. I noticed Wyatt outside with Brooklyn, who was wearing maroon pants with a gold sequence shirt, black boot heels and a black bracelet. She looked pissed at Ripley. My whole group of friends walked up next to me.
"Fine, pay me back," Ripley added, "You guys owe me a lot."
We all shrugged. All of us but Kit and Sadie, who actually didn't have Ripley buy them anything, undress. We were all in our underwear and threw our clothes at Ripley. We left. As we walked to Wyatt's car, we were stopped by Laura.
"I saw what you guys did."
We all had stupid smiles on our faces, feeling like heroes.
"It was pretty cool, besides the fighting. Here's my number, I would love to spend the day with you guys." She smiled.
"Cool."
"Oh and stop by my shop! It's right outside of the boardwalk and it's called Felix's." She smiled.
"Alright, why is it called that?" I asked.
"After one of my pet rats."
"You have rats? Awesome." CC only uses the word awesome when she thinks something is really edgy.
We left. Wyatt said he was actually going back to the party because he had to finish something. I wonder what. Kit didn't say anything, just went home. CC decided to walk home Ash. So, it was just me and Sadie. I felt like I should walk her home, so I did. The weather was really nice and warm. I'm happy about that because I'm just in socks and boxers.
"You should go home and change, I'll be fine on my own." Sadie said.
I shook my head, "It's all good."
We continuted to walked.
"You know, I didn't even want to come to the party." I said.
"But someone dragged you because you hate all rich kids including me."
"Nah, I was worried about you."
"But I thought you hated me." She looked me.
"I do."
"And you also hate Ripley?"
"I do."
"Then why come? What's the difference between Ripley and I?"
"I don't trust him. Since day one, I never did."
It was quiet again.
"Lanny?"
"Yeah?"
"You trust me?" Sadie questioned.
"Of course."
"You care about me?"
"Yup."
"You hate me?"
I stopped and looked at her with a little smile, "No doubt."
We just looked at each other for a while. Like a long time. Then, what felt like out of no where, we kissed, for a really long time. Longer than when we were staring at each other. The weirdest thing about this kiss is that it felt so right. It was like the perfect kiss. She pulled away with a smile and giggling a little.
"What?" I was confused.
Is she going to say I'm a bad kisser.
"I can't get over the fact that you stripped down and threw the clothes at Ripley."
I laughed a little, "Yeah and now I'm walking a girl home in my underwear. So, hopefully there are no cops around."
We talked for the rest of the back to her house, eventually holding hands out of nowhere and neither of us realized it. I walked her up to her front door.
"Thanks for tonight."
"No problem." I replied.
"Um, could we please not talk about what happened. You know in the room?" Sadie questioned.
"I would never make you talk about that."
She smiled and then the door open. Standing there was a big man in a cop uniform. I looked at him, then back at Sadie.
"Did I not mention my dad was a cop?" She asked.
I shook my head.
"Who is this?" He had such a deep voice.
"My boyfriend and I'm not dating him to piss you off. He's a really sweet guy." She added.
"Boyfriend?" Her dad and I said it at the same time.
She looked at me with a smile, "Yeah, boyfriend, you got a problem with that?"
"Not at all."
"I do. Get inside Sadie and tell your this boy to where some clothes next time."
"Next time?" Sadie looked at her dad.
He didn't say anything and shut the door. More like slam, but still. I walked home, I still hate Sadie, by the way. When I got home and walked in my mom just looked at me.
"Where are your clothes?"
"Hate those rich kids!" I said walking up the stairs. Nothing is taking this smile away.
