Someone Pull The Fire Alarm

My alarm clock blared early in the morning, causing my eyes to shoot open, startled. Quickly, I slapped the thing so it shut up. The first day of freshman year, was finally here. All summer I had been dreading the day I'd finally leave my childhood behind and begin my, "adult" high school life. This sucks...

Tiredly, I climbed out of bed, and wandered out of my room into the kitchen. A quiet yawn escaped my lips as I itched the side of my head and began going through the cupboards. I grabbed a box of Honey Nut Cheerios and poured myself a bowl before sitting down at the kitchen island.

Summer went by so fast... I miss middle school... now I must act like an "adult" ugh... all those high school movies of the popular blonde bitches ruining everyone's lives scare me... is that really how it is!? People drinking and partying and doing adult things!? God, I just wanna hide under my sheets until my parents get home...

Finally, I finished my bowl and set it in the sink. With one last sigh, I trudged into my bedroom and flipped through my clothes.

First day... first impressions... no wait... everyone already knows me... so I guess it's more like... second impressions for peers... first impressions for teachers... yeah... so I should where something... I dunno... I'll just put something on and call it...

I pulled on a Smashing Pumpkins shirt, my favorite paint stained jeans, black converse, and a black jacket. My mind buzzed as I gazed at myself in my full body mirror. Yeah... I look okay...

Now that I was dressed, I brushed my teeth, did my hair, and everything in between. Then, I got a message from one of my friends.

Anna: hey, everyone hopes you have a good day at school, we miss you :(

All my friends went to the other high school... well... all the ones I like...

Me: aw, I hope you do too, I also miss you guys :(

With a sad sigh, I slid my earbuds into my ears, plugged them into my iPod, and hit play on the Smashing Pumpkins album, Siamese Dream. Quickly, I snatched my backpack with my things already inside from the night before, and walked to the bus stop. A few freshmen I recognized stood around, along with one or two sophomores.

I know them... but I'm not gonna talk to them... just... focus on the music... everything will be alright... this is gonna be a sucky day...

The bus pulled up and everyone climbed on, including me. I sat in a middle seat, by myself. A few boys sat in the back being loud and obnoxious, but I didn't take any notice to them. Lazily, I gazed out the window as the sun came up over the horizon. The bus only stopped a few more times before we headed to the school. No one sat beside me, which I liked very much.

As we came to a stoplight, there was a red truck right beside us. Their music was blasting so loud I could hear it even after I put my music on full blast. From what I could tell, there were about four boys in the automobile with Black Flag blasting loud. I like Black Flag as much as the next guy... but please... I'm tired...

The light turned green and the bus turned right, the red truck did the same, but then took another turn somewhere I didn't pay attention to. I can imagine what kinda boys they could've been... scary punks... happy they don't go here...

My thoughts came to a stop when the bus pulled up to the school. Everyone piled off the big yellow school bus and began the short walk to the front doors. I stood at the doors for a moment, looking at the big, plain colored school. With one more step... my childhood is officially over...

I took a deep breath, but before I could enter, the sound of Black Flag came up from behind me. I turned around to see the red truck driving around the parking lot as Slip it In was playing loud. To clarify, that song isn't exactly school friendly. Wow... definitely not my first choice in songs to enter a school with...

Four boys jumped out of the truck as the music stopped. They began walking my way. Wait... I know that boy... the one with the glasses... Mikey... we went to elementary school together... huh... weird...

Before I could have any sort of encounter with them, I went into the school. Quickly, I pulled out my schedule, and walked around trying to find my first period. Where the fuck is it!? Oh...

I stopped walking when I noticed a set of stairs. Seriously!? Ugh...

Quickly, I made my way up the stairs, and tried to find my class there. As I did, I wasn't really looking where I was going as I was so focused on my schedule. I had bumped into someone.

"Oh my god, I'm so sorry!" I cried, grabbing my dropped schedule.

"No, I'm sorry, I wasn't looking." He chuckled.

The boy I had bumped into was the boy I had seen earlier, Mikey Way. He was a friend in elementary school. But since he went to the other middle school these past years, I had no idea what he thought of me. I knew for a fact, that he had changed.

Now, he wore a set of black glasses that faded to white at the corners that were set over his distinct hazel brown eyes. His nose had become more pointed, lips more filled in, and a jaw line so fine it could cut a cake. His hair had become almost a mix of brown and blond underneath the red beanie he wore. I highly doubt he remembers me... but I sure remember him... his brother too...

"Oh wait, I think this is yours." He handed over my schedule.

"Oh, thank you." I handed over what had now appeared to be his schedule.

"Uhm, I saw that you had Mr. Black first hour. Wanna walk together?"

"Yeah, sure..." I took out my earbuds and slid them away with my iPod before we began walking.

"I'm Mikey, by the way." I know... we used to be friends...

"I'm Y/n..."

"Are you a freshman too?" I nodded.

"Yeah, I am."

"Cool..." He sent a friendly smile as we stepped into the classroom, "So uh, wanna sit together?" He asked, eying the desks put together in pairs.

"Sure..." I shrugged. We took seats in the back, away from everyone else, when a guy with long black hair walked in.

"Aww, Mikey, already found yourself a girlfriend?" He asked, standing at our desks. Gerard... his older brother... I remember him too...

"No," He rolled his eyes, "What're you doing here, anyways?"

"We got the same first period, dip shit!" He cried.

Another thing about high school... more combined classes with other grades... yeah I had classes like that in middle school... but now... any of my classes could end up being all seniors... and then me... a freshman... ugh...

The bell rang and Gerard took a seat in front of Mikey, resting his feet on the open desk beside his. His big black combat boots barely went over the side of the desk. A few more students walked in, taking seats and all before the teacher came up and began giving the routine first day speech.

"Man, this guy talks a lot..." Mikey said, more directed towards Gerard.

"Yeah, someone pull the fire alarm already." He chuckled. Someone pull the fire alarm? What does that mean?

"Oh shit, I dunno if I ever introduced you," Mikey turned to me, "Y/n, this is my older brother, Gerard, Gerard, this is Y/n. I met her in the hallway."

"Cool, you a freshman?" I nodded, "Yeah, I thought so. I'm a sophomore." Sophomore... so he's just a year older... sure doesn't act like it... I woulda guessed he's a junior...

"Alright class!" The teacher called, catching our attention, "Enough of me talking, I want you to turn to the person beside you, introduce yourself, and," He thought for a moment, "Ah! Your favorite part about our school!"

"Ugh..." Gerard groaned, "It was the fuckin' fire alarm. But now it's gotta be... nothing..."

"The fire alarm?" I asked, confused. He turned to me.

"Yeah, whenever someone wanted to get outta something, like a test or an assembly, they'd pull the fire alarm to get outta it. But there was this unspoken rule that you could only have it pulled once a month, so we wouldn't get into too much trouble. Last year, people totally ignored the rule. They couldn't get rid of the fire alarms, so now they have someone on watch all day long."

"Geez..." I spoke, "You ever pull it?"

"Nah, but Frank did," He snickered, "Got us outta doin' the mile in P.E. that day." I nodded, then the bell rang. So I grabbed my backpack, just like everyone else, and began towards the door with Gerard and Mikey beside me.

"What class do you have next?" Mikey asked as Gerard walked off. I pulled out my schedule.

As I stood there, I couldn't help but notice how much taller Mikey was from me. He was always taller back in elementary school... but now... he almost towers over me... geez...

"Uhm, math, with Mrs. Caroline."

"Oh cool, I..." He pulled out his schedule, "Yeah! I got that class, c'mon, I know where that is."

"Cool..." I followed him downstairs. It's nice... like I have my own little guide...

"Y/n!" A girl happily cried as we entered the room.

"Oh, Kim, hi..." I kindly waved, even though, deep down inside, I wish I hadn't seen her, "Don't leave me with her..." I whispered to Mikey.

"This is so cool! Wanna sit together!?" She spoke so enthusiastically, it made me want to barf.

"Uh..." I looked to Mikey, he shrugged, "Sure..."

"Yay!" Luckily, the desks were arranged into tables of four. So, I got to sit beside Mikey, with Kim across from me.

"Ay yo Mikey!" Mikey and I turned to see a boy I definitely hadn't met yet. He had bleached blond spiked hair, a lip ring, and a matching nose ring. As he got closer, I noticed gauges, along with how short he was, at least, compared to Mikey.

"Hey Frank!" He happily cried, "You're in this class!?" So that's Frank... interesting...

"Yeah, I'm the T.A.!" Frank came over.

"Sick..."

"How's your first day been?" Frank asked him.

"It's alright, like any first day of school," He shrugged, "Oh, but I did meet Y/n," I waved, "We met in the hallway and have first and second together so far."

"Aww, Mikey's already got himself a girlfriend!" Why do they keep saying that!? It's not funny...

"No, she's not my girlfriend!"

"Whatever..." Frank rolled his eyes with a smirk, walking to an empty table in the back as the bell rang.

I mean yeah... Mikey is cute... but I'm not gonna say anything... the things I know from elementary school have most likely changed... who knows? Maybe he's a complete ass now... I really hope not...
