Prologue

"Sir, I'd like to resign."

Firm in its tone, the man's polite deep voice resounds loud and clear.

His tall stature partly blocking the morning sunlight that penetrates in through the giant glass window on his right, creating a shadow on the white marbled floor in the richly furnished room.

Feet drawn together, fists by his sides.
Determination evident in the dark of his eyes as he stays still in his stance, gazing right in front at the unfolded resignation letter that rests on his boss's hardwood office desk.

The one he wrote last night with absolute dedication to his final decision.

"Taehyung are you sure of this? You are one of our most successful and highest-paid employees with hundred percent chances of further promotion. Your leaving will highly affect the company. Must you resign?"

His boss, a well-dressed man seemingly in his 50s glances at the half read letter with slight concern. For some reason, his ageing features do not exhibit any elements of surprise. No, as if he was expecting this to happen at some stage. But, utter disappointment does wash over him like a tide rising over a solitary cliff.

For Kim Taehyung - hard working, diligent and honest - had come to be extremely admired by all his acquaintances over the years. Even became a favourite of the higher managements. He was liked, respected and looked up to.

He was the perfect employee. His beautiful face along with irresistible charms only adding up to those amiable qualities he prepossessed. People wanted to be him, but they also wanted him. Men and women alike.

But Taehyung knows better. None of this is needed by him. Not anymore. Because–

The painful yearning he had assumed to be just a phase that he would be able to suppress during the past years, only proved to grow more and more overtime despite his relentless efforts. To the point until it became totally...

Unbearable.

His sole wish now, is relief.

"Taehyung please! Don't do this to me. I-I can't–"

It was one cold, cold day.

The nearly shivering boy struggled to fight back his own threatening tears. No courage persisting in him to turn around and face the swollen, pearl-glistened eyes of his.. sweetheart, his angel, his destined eternity, or such he used to call him. His love.

It was one noisy day too.

But the sounds of wheels rolling, luggage being dragged, opening of gates, clinking of machines in the distance, footsteps and chitter-chatters of people – everything fell stone deaf to his ears. All that he could hear were his love's hushed, pleading cries.

His love..the beautiful love of his life, his all-season spring in the form of a similar structured boy not much younger than himself, had realised, realised that this was just going into vain, yet could not help his unabated sobbing. Wanted to let it all out, the immense pain of his aching heart, just one more time, the last time.

Because holding in always makes endurance much more excruciating.

The boy felt his love's smaller, shaky hands reaching out to grab the fur of his coat from back. A touch he was sure he would not be able to ever feel again.

An extremely comforting, but weak grip in fact, that could be separated with the simplest of an opposing pull. Just like their relationship. He wished he had held on tighter, that the bond could be stronger.

"Please... please stay, how will I ever be happy without you?"

His love's crystalline tears that ran like a never-ending stream down the face, started to leave stains. And they would never be able to be as deep as the wound that pierced through his poor heart into a bloody, lonely mess.

The boy knew, when the only cure to his love's wound was the one who caused it.. how could it ever heal?

Taehyung knew. He himself was the cure, and cause as well.

He closed his eyes, sharply took in a hurtful breath, trying so hard to not let even a single tear escape and turned around. As much as he wanted to cry, he had to stay strong. For his love.

"Jungkook, we've both talked this through countless times, and could finally come to accept. Stop. Don't... don't try to hold me back now!"

It felt about impossible for Taehyung to not break while speaking the last part.

His stern response that sensed colder than the day made his love tear up even more. Fresh new ones reappeared over those dried lines of unhealed sorrow.

Taehyung suddenly felt the younger throw himself into his arms. His eyes widening and stomach churning painfully at the abrupt warmth of affection he wished he could treasure forever, making it harder for him to withhold. Maybe this really was the last time he could hold Jungkook so tenderly like this.

He heard his love mumbling some incoherent into his chest, which he when understood, shattered him into a million tiny pieces from inside. And those pieces further shattered into another million tiny pieces creating an endless loop of despair. It was something along the lines of

"It doesn't matter what we talked before Tae! Watching you l-leave in front of my eyes, it hurts...it hurts so much m-mo-more than any physical pain hyung... Till yesterday, you were there snuggling in my arms, a-and now? Knowing that we won't see each other after this moment..how can I be calm Taehyung? How? Wh-what happened to our...our promises, our memories..our oaths of being each other's forever...o-our love?? Don't put me through this misery hyung. Don't go! Please."

For a moment, hearing Jungkook's exhausted choked voice, Taehyung was urged to the core to throw all his suitcases away and embrace his love for eternity. But.

What had to be done must be done.
What had to be left must be left.
If destiny had planned their separation, they must accept it. A person's life is more than just a lover.
That's what he believed.

It was for the better of both of them.
That's what he genuinely thought.

Taehyung felt wet warmth running down his cheeks. Ah. His eyes had given up, but no, he couldn't. Tearfully, he hugged his love tighter than ever.

The moment was like a blur. As if the time had stopped. And there they stood, in a far corner, avoiding unwanted attention as they ignored the surroundings that seemed to have paused. In their own little world made of the most fragile glass. A house of cards that could crash by the gentlest of wind.

They remained like that before Taehyung slowly pulled away, gazing into the younger's doe like orbs with sheer sincerity. And said those aching final words to his love. He'd probably said those innumerable times before too, but this time they agonizingly stabbed right in the younger's chest.

"I love you so much Jungkook, I'll always do, without a doubt. You are my first ever love. But please understand, we can't be together. Every love doesn't last forever..."

Taehyung separated himself from Jungkook, still holding onto his hands.

"...You have your own life too, which is worth much more than just me. You are worth to live without me, you can! We don't have our ending together, but we made those beautiful memories which is something to look back onto and, smile. I'm sure, you'll soon find your own true happiness and you could move on. We both can."

He caressed the younger's flushed cheeks with gentle strokes of his fingers.

"And you'll always hold a special position in my heart, love. Let's just, not forget each other hmm."

Taehyung cupped his love's face and kissed him one final time, soft and pure.

"Goodbye Jungkook."

The younger was about to protest or say anything when they suddenly heard the announcement for the flight leaving to America. In a mere moment of seconds, picking up his suitcases Taehyung exited the waiting room.

And like a dandelion flowing away in wind, he disappeared in the crowds before his love's very eyes.

"Yes Sir. Never been more sure. It was a pleasure to work in your company. Thank you."

Saying the above words, Taehyung bows in front of his once boss. And marches out of his once working place with only one resolution in mind.

I'm coming back Jungkook, my love.
