CHAPTER ONE!
Isaac Lahey honestly never thought he would be back in Beacon Hills. He thought he left for good. But sixteen years ago he moved back to his home town. For some reason he just got the sudden urge to move back and when he was finally back in Beacon Hills, it felt right. Sure, it felt weird because everything in Beacon Hills reminded him of everything he went through growing up, but he had to admit he was glad to be back. He met someone new, fell in love with her, and made a family with her. He was finally happy again. It was kind of tough getting into a relationship, he hasn't gotten into one ever since Allison died.
Okay, well, he has tried dating here and there, but that's all. He didn't feel like any of those girls he dated with would be his forever best friend. And it was hard dating when you had to keep a secret as crazy as being a werewolf from that person you're dating. It isn't until he moved back to Beacon Hills when he meets his forever best friend. Josephine 'Josie' Brooks. She worked at a café she owned that was passed down in her family from generations to generations called Brooks Café.
When Isaac first walked into that café and locked eyes with her, he was taken away by her beauty. Some would say it was love at first sight and Isaac and Josie would agree. Since that day the two hit it off well and became friends quickly. Over the months of getting to know each other, Josie finally grew comfortable enough to explain to him how she and her family are a line of hunters that protect the supernaturals from evil supernaturals and the hunters who hunt the supernaturals. Isaac was relieved she already knew about the supernatural existing so he didn't have to explain it. He was also relieved she already knew about the supernatural because that meant she wouldn't freak out much about him being a werewolf.
A couple months after being friends with each other Josie and Isaac started dating. And thanks to Josie, she taught him how to love again. At the end of that year they got married and one year later they had a beautiful baby girl they named Imara. After explaining to Josie what he went through, Josie suggested on naming their daughter Allison after Isaac's first love and while he thought it was sweet she wanted to do that, he decided against it. But they both still wanted to pay a homage to Allison since she was important to Isaac and so they chose to have Imara's middle name be Allison while Imara's name was picked after Josie's grandma who had passed not long before Imara was born. Josie and Isaac had a strong and happy relationship and they still have that to this day.
Imara is now a teenager, growing up to be a strong and beautiful woman. Isaac always said she was taking after her mother and Josie always teased him saying he was so head over heels for her. Isaac would just chuckle and nod, not bothering with arguing because she was right. Sometimes Isabella thought her parent's relationship was so gross because of how in love they are. Although she had to admit it was sweet and something to admire since they still loved each other after for sixteen years. Imara was now fifteen, turning sixteen very soon. Imara didn't really care about turning sixteen. She knew that it was a big deal for some girls and that they all would want a Sweet Sixteen, but she didn't care. She just thought it was another birthday.
She didn't want a Sweet Sixteen party. She honestly didn't want any parties. The thing about her is that she hated her birthday parties. Ever since her 10th birthday party when a group of girls who she thought were her friends at the time didn't show up and instead played a prank on her, she hated having her birthday celebrated. That day she learned how to keep her guard up more and be wary of who she considered her friends. From then on, she preferred to spend her birthdays quietly with her family, maybe going out for a nice dinner or having a movie night at home. Unbeknownst to her, her best friend pulled a prank on the group of girls the next day because of what they did to her.
Eli Hale had set up a trip wire and a bucket full of syrup over the door of the classroom the group of girls had at the end of the day. He timed it just right where the group of girls left the classroom at the same time when the hallway was busy, meaning they were embarrassed in front of the whole school. He did have some help from Luke Stilinski with the prank, who was often known as the master of pranks. Eli thought it was a successful prank....Besides the fact he got detention. It was still worth it though. He didn't like when his best friend got hurt by anyone. Even if he knew Imara could take care of herself, he still felt the need to look after her. After all, that's what best friends are for, right?
As her sixteenth birthday approached, Imara made it clear to her parents that she didn't want any fuss. However, Josie and Isaac couldn't let such a milestone birthday pass without some sort of celebration. They respected Imara's wishes for a low-key affair but still wanted to make the day special for her. So for her upcoming birthday they planned on doing something special for her, but of course it was a secret from her. Imara had no idea what her parents had in mind for her special day coming up in a few days, but she didn't care much as long as her parents were not making a fuss about it.
Imara thought today was just gonna be a boring day. She was currently in her bedroom, laying on her stomach on her bed, and there was a book in front of her that she was reading. Imara liked to read. She was a nerd like that. But hey, she was a proud nerd. She was engrossed in her book, the world within its pages captivating her attention entirely. She often found solace in the worlds crafted by authors, where she could escape the monotony of everyday life and immerse herself in adventures beyond her own. The soft rustle of pages turning filled the air of her room as she devoured each word hungrily, her mind wandering to distant lands and thrilling escapades.
It wasn't until she suddenly heard a knock at her window, causing her to jolt up, and was met by her best friend's grinning face. Eli was her neighbor and they have been best friends since they were five. They were inseparable, often doing everything together. The two were practically joined at the hip.
She rolls her eyes and got up from her bed, going over to her window, and opens the window for him. "What do you want?"
"Is that any way to greet your best friend?" Eli asked her, a smirk plastered on his face. He knew his best friend was an introvert. She would prefer staying home and read books than go out and socialize. But he wouldn't change a single thing about her. He still tried to get her out more and hang out. It was like an accomplishment for him when he succeeded.
"Depends," She says, leaning against her desk as she looked at him. "You interrupted my reading." She complained with a pout.
"I didn't know I needed permission to see you." He jokes, climbing inside her room. Eli, with his typical mischievous grin, plops down on Imara's bed, making himself comfortable. "So, what fascinating world were you lost in this time?" He asked, peering at the book she had been reading.
Imara couldn't help but chuckle at Eli's antics, shaking her head as she joined him on the bed, sitting by him. "The Hunger Games series."
"Again?" He chuckles. He knew she liked to read but he didn't realize she read those books over and over. "Don't you have those memorized by now?" He teased playfully, nudging her shoulder with his own.
Imara rolls her eyes, giving him a playful shove back. "Hey, don't judge my reading choices. The Hunger Games is a classic, okay?" She defended with a grin, her eyes twinkling with amusement.
Eli laughs, nodding in agreement. "Alright, fair enough. Can't argue with that. But you know, there are other books out there too. Maybe I should broaden your horizons a bit." He teased, waggling his eyebrows suggestively.
Imara scoffs, giving him a playful shove. "Oh, please. Like you're the pinnacle of literary taste," She retorts with a smirk. "I know for a fact you only read comic books."
Eli gives a mock look of offense, holding a hand over his heart. "You wound me, McCall. You know I have more depths than just comics," He says, his eyes twinkling with mischief. "I'll have you know I have a very extensive collection of books."
"Sure you do, Hale," She smirks, seeing right through his little act. She knew him too well by now. "Name one book besides comic books that you have read."
He pretends to think, tapping his chin with his finger as he hums thoughtfully. "The Outsiders." He responded, looking triumphant.
Imara looks impressed, arching a brow. "That's actually a good one. Did you really read it?" She asked, a hint of disbelief in her tone.
Eli feigns offense, placing a hand dramatically over his heart. "I'm hurt, Mars. Of course, I read it! It's a classic!" He insisted, though the twinkle in his eye betrayed his playful demeanor.
Imara chuckles, shaking her head. "Alright, alright, I believe you," She relents, a smile tugging at her lips. "So, what brings you here, Eli? Not that I mind the company." She added quickly, nudging him with her elbow.
"Wanna go for a drive?" Eli grinned, looking at her hopefully and curiously.
Imara raises her eyebrows, wondering what he had in mind but she had a feeling she knew what he wanted to do. "We don't have our license and neither of us have a car."
"But you have your permit and we could just steal the jeep." Eli told her, looking at her with a pleading expression.
"What is it with you and that jeep?" Imara chuckled.
"I dunno, I just like it." Eli shrugged, trying to act nonchalant.
"You like it 'cause it annoys your dad, don't you?" Imara asked in a teasing tone. She grinned, knowing full well how Eli loved to push his dad's buttons.
Eli chuckled sheepishly, scratching the back of his neck. "Okay, maybe that's part of it," He admits, flashing her a mischievous grin. "But come on, Mars, it'll be fun! Just a little joyride, nothing too crazy."
Imara considered his proposal for a moment, weighing the pros and cons in her mind. On one hand, she knew she shouldn't be encouraging Eli's rebellious streak, especially when it came to taking his dad's jeep without permission. On the other hand, she couldn't deny that the idea of a spontaneous adventure did sound appealing.
"Fine," She sighs, rolling her eyes but unable to suppress the grin tugging at her lips. "But you're driving."
Eli's grin widens into a full-blown smile of triumph. "Deal!" He agrees eagerly, rising to his feet and grabbing her wrist, pulling her towards the window. "Come on, let's go!"
"Hold on, I gotta get my shoes on first." Imara laughed, amused by his enthusiasm. Since she already had her socks on, she grabbed her sneakers from beside her desk and quickly slipped them on and grabbed her phone before following Eli out the window. They both climb down the tree outside her window, their practiced movements from having done this countless times before easily allowing them to reach the ground with ease.
The bad thing was that Hale's Auto Shop was kind of far from the Lahey house. Plus they also had to climb over a fence to get to where Stiles' old jeep was. Imara didn't plan on running at all today or climbing a fence, but here she was doing those things. She was starting to wonder why Eli was her best friend. He dragged her into a lot of things she never expected to do, yet he always managed to get her to go along with it. It was probably the puppy dog eyes he gave her. She could never say no to them. But the same went with him, he couldn't say no to her when she gave him puppy dog eyes.
As they made their way to Hale's Auto Shop, Imara couldn't help but feel a rush of adrenaline coursing through her veins. Despite her initial reluctance, she found herself caught up in the excitement of the impromptu adventure with Eli. She couldn't deny that there was a thrill in breaking the rules, even if it was just a harmless joyride. Once they finally made it to the shop, the two teenagers snuck around to the side of the building where the old jeep was parked. Thankfully, no one was around, so they quickly started to climb up the fence.
"I can't believe I'm climbing over a fence right now." Imara muttered under her breath. She knew she shouldn't be complaining because she chose to go with him, but she was still surprised at how quickly she got talked into it. She could have been relaxing at home, reading her book, but instead she was breaking into a place. She wasn't even sure how Eli convinced her to go along with his crazy antics sometimes, but she couldn't deny that there was a thrill in being bad every once in a while.
"You're life would be boring with out me." Eli grins at her. "Just admit it."
"It would be a lot safer." Imara joked.
Eli rolls his eyes playfully. "Whatever. You know you love the excitement." He grins, pulling himself up over the fence and reaching a hand down to help her. On her way down, her foot suddenly slipped and she let out a startled yelp as she tumbled backward, falling into Eli's arms. He chuckles, catching her with ease, his arms wrapped securely around her waist. He smirks down at her, their faces inches apart, his amber eyes glinting with mischief. "If you wanted me to hold you like this, Mars, all you had to do was ask." He teased, his voice low and playful.
Imara couldn't help but laugh at his cheeky remark, feeling the warmth of his arms around her along with her face growing warm their sudden close proximity. "Oh, shut up, E." She retorts, though her tone was lighthearted. She pushes herself away from him, straightening up and adjusting her grip on her sneakers. "Let's just get this over with before we get caught."
Eli grins, holding his hands up in surrender. "Alright, alright, let's go." He led the way over to the old jeep, bending down to hide behind it at one point so he wouldn't get caught. Isabella followed his lead, crouching down next to him and keeping an eye out for any movement. She didn't want anyone to catch them. If anyone did, they'd probably end up in a lot of trouble. Once they were sure the coast was clear, they quickly made their way over to the driver's side of the jeep, keeping low so as not to be spotted.
When they get to Stiles' jeep that was covered up, Imara knelt besides the passenger side while Eli knelt beside the drivers side. "All clear?" Imara asked him, not noticing anyone from her view.
"All clear." Eli confirmed, turning to face the covered jeep. He pulled up the covering, opening the jeep and climbing in the same time Isabella does.
Imara furrows her eyebrows with a pout forming on her lips. "Why are you driving even though I'm the one with the permit?"
"Aren't you the one who wanted me to drive? Plus do you know how to hot wire a car?" Eli countered with a grin, starting up the jeep's engine.
Imara rolls her eyes, but couldn't help but chuckle at his response. "Fine, you win this round," She concedes, settling into the passenger seat. "But you better not crash, or I'll never let you live it down."
Eli scoffs playfully, giving her a mock offended look. "Hey, have a little faith in me, will you? I'm an expert driver." He boasted, though his grin betrayed his confidence.
Imara raised an eyebrow skeptically, but said nothing more as Eli pulled out of the auto shop's lot, their impromptu adventure officially underway. As he backed up the jeep, the tarp covering the jeep fell off. He then pulled out of the parking lot and drove down the highway. Imara smiled, nodding her head along to the music. She had the window down, moving her right arm in waves as the wind pushed against her arm. Eli glanced over at her every once in awhile, a soft smile on his lips. As they sped off down the road, Imara couldn't help but feel a rush of excitement coursing through her veins, knowing that she was in for an unforgettable ride with her best friend by her side.
As the two of them continued their joyride, the music blaring and the wind rushing past them, Imara couldn't help but grin widely, feeling more carefree and happy than she had in a long time. There was something about the exhilaration of speeding down the open road, with no cares or worries, that filled her with a sense of freedom and contentment. She glanced over at Eli, who was focused on the road, and couldn't help but admire how handsome he looked in the sunlight, his dark hair blowing slightly in the breeze. She quickly looked away, not wanting him to catch her staring, and turned her attention back to the scenery whizzing past them, basking in the moment.
She didn't know what was going on with her lately. She had been feeling different around Eli. She found herself noticing little things about him more, like the way his eyes crinkled when he laughed or the way his hands gripped the steering wheel with confidence. She couldn't deny that she felt a flutter of something whenever she was around him, something that she couldn't quite put into words. She had always thought of him as just her best friend, but lately, she couldn't shake the feeling that there was something more between them.
As Eli turned down one road, the best friends missed the fact that a deputy was parked nearby. He rolled his window down, taking his sunglasses off as he watched the familiar blue jeep drive off. He raised his eyebrows when he noticed two familiar teens inside the jeep. He shook his head, sighing in annoyance. Of course, they would steal the jeep. He should have known. The two teens did this on a daily basis, and it was a miracle that they hadn't been caught yet. The deputy put his sunglasses back on, starting up his car and pulling out onto the road, following behind the jeep at a discreet distance after he made some phone calls.
Eli stopped at a stop sign next to a car with a brunette-haired girl in it. She glanced over at the jeep, locking eyes with Eli. She smiled flirtatiously at him, earning a surprised look from him and an eye roll from Isabella. The light turned green and the girl drove off. Before Eli could drive off as well, the back tires suddenly went flat.
"What?" Imara asks in disbelief, sharing a confused look with Eli. "Okay, I know this jeep breaks down all the time, but I didn't think the tires were apart of it breaking down."
"Let's check it out." Eli suggested. He got out the same time Imara did. Imara didn't even have time to look at the tire because first she sensed her dad standing by the right side of the jeep. Her heart dropped as she realized they had been caught.
Isaac smiles, showing his claws he used to flat the tire on the right side before he retracts the claws. "Hey, dad. Crazy seeing you here." Imara smiled nervously at her dad, her mind racing as she tried to think of a plausible explanation for their current situation.
Eli's eyes widened when he heard that and he glanced over to his left, sighing in defeat when he noticed Isaac standing there. Then he looked to his right when his dad revealed himself since he had been standing behind the jeep. Derek retracted his claws as Isabella and Isaac joined them. Isaac stood by Derek while Isabella stood by Eli.
Eli points at the tires. "We're not paying for those."
Derek nods. "Oh, yes, you are."
Imara then spots Deputy Parrish and Sherriff Stilinski behind her dad and Derek. She grimaces when she sees them. She knew this would happen, and she knew that her dad would have something to say about it. Parrish sighs, shaking his head. "Really, guys? Again? Do I even want to know how many times you guys have taken this jeep?" He asked, though his tone was more amused than annoyed.
"Probably not." Eli replied, a sheepish grin on his face.
Imara sighs, crossing her arms over her chest. "This is so embarrassing," She mutters, shooting a glare at Eli. "I told you we were going to get caught. I mean, how many times are you going to steal the jeep, anyways?"
Eli shrugs, his grin never faltering. "Until I get tired of it, I guess," He replies, his blue eyes twinkling with mischief. "Though you know me, Mars, I'll probably never get tired of it. This is just too much fun."
Imara rolls her eyes, despite the smile tugging at her lips. "E, why do I even put up with you?" She muttered, though there's no malice in her tone.
"Because I'm your best friend and you love me," Eli grins, nudging her playfully. "And you know you had fun, too, so stop acting like you're not." He pointed out, arching an eyebrow knowingly.
Eli puts his hands on his hips, his eyes widening when he looked behind Isaac and Derek and saw Sheriff Stilinski and Deputy Parrish. He sheepishly smiles. "What's up, guys?" He awkwardly waves at them. Imara sheepishly smiles at the men and waves as well. "Look," Eli looks at Isaac with a pleading expression. "Just don't be mad with Mars. I made her go with me."
"I figured." Isaac nods, his expression unreadable. "Imara Allison, get in the car, we're going home."
Imara sighs in defeat, knowing she was in big trouble. "Crap, you called me by my middle name." She whines, frowning. "Alright," She mutters, her shoulders slumping. "I'll see you later, Eli, good luck." She murmured, giving her best friend a sympathetic look.
"Thanks, you, too." Eli sighed, rubbing the back of his neck, looking at her sympathetically as she followed her dad to his car. He felt bad for getting her into trouble.
"Get in the car." Derek told Eli, who nodded and followed his dad to the car.
Sherriff Stilinski shakes his head as he watches the three leave. "I swear, these two are always causing some kind of trouble," He muttered, crossing his arms.
"Remind you of anyone?" Parrish chuckled, giving the man a knowing look.
The sheriff nods. "Yeah, Stiles and Scott," He chuckles. "But I think these two might just give them a run for their money." He sighed, shaking his head in amusement as he followed the others back to his car. It was going to be an interesting conversation with their parents, that was for sure. But deep down, he couldn't help but feel a sense of fondness for the troublemaking duo. After all, they were just teenagers being teenagers. And besides, he couldn't deny that they were entertaining to be around. He'd definitely be keeping an eye on those two.
As they drove home, Isaac looked over at his daughter. She was silent, staring out the window, her expression a mix of annoyance and guilt. "How many times have you and Eli stolen the jeep?" He asked her, not able to keep the hint of amusement out of his tone.
"Enough." Imara answered vaguely, her lips pressed into a thin line. She could tell her dad was trying to fight the urge to smile.
"Imara, why would you steal the jeep and go on a joyride?" Isaac raised an eyebrow, turning his head briefly to look at her. He was curious about what her reasoning was for stealing the jeep.
Imara shrugs, a sheepish smile tugging at her lips. "It seemed like fun, I guess," She admits, her cheeks flushing with embarrassment. "Plus we needed a ride for after the game to meet up with our friends later tonight." She murmured, chewing on her bottom lip.
Isaac couldn't help but let out a chuckle, shaking his head in amusement. "You could have just asked me, you know," He reminds her, his tone lighthearted. "Instead of breaking into the auto shop and stealing the jeep. You're lucky Sheriff Stilinski and Parrish are our friends or you would be in big trouble."
Imara groans, burying her face in her hands. "Don't remind me," She grumbles, peeking at him through her fingers. "I'm already embarrassed enough as it is. I knew we would get caught, we always do."
"Well, then maybe you'll think twice before stealing the jeep again, huh?" Isaac teased, giving her a pointed look.
"Yeah, yeah, okay, dad, whatever you say," Imara rolls her eyes playfully, her smile returning. "You're saying this as if you never did anything stupid when you were my age."
"I did but that doesn't mean you have to follow in my footsteps," Isaac replies with a chuckle. "Learn from my mistakes, Immy. You're smarter than that."
Imara nods, her smile softening as she looks at her dad. "I know, dad," She murmurs, feeling a surge of affection for him. "Thanks for not being too mad at me."
Isaac reaches over and ruffles her hair affectionately. "I could never stay mad at you, Immy," He said gently, giving her a fond smile. "But you're grounded for a week, no arguments." He added, earning a groan from her.
"Fine." Imara muttered, sinking further down into her seat, resigning herself to her fate.
Isaac glances at her, his lips quirking upward in amusement. "Hey, I'm going easy on you. Your mom would have your head if she were here."
"Oh, I know, trust me," Imara nods, a shiver running down her spine at the mere thought of her mom's wrath. "I'll take what I can get."
"Good," Isaac chuckles, giving her a teasing grin. "Because I can guarantee that your mom would ground you for a month and stop you from seeing Eli for a month as well."
Imara gasps dramatically, clutching her chest as if she had been shot. "She wouldn't dare," She exclaims, her eyes wide. "No Eli? How could she separate me and Eli? That's cruel and unusual punishment!"
Isaac rolls his eyes fondly, fighting back the urge to smile. "Stop being dramatic, you and Eli would survive a month without each other," He points out, arching an eyebrow at her. "Besides, maybe it would do you both some good to spend some time apart."
"Yeah, I don't think so, dad," Imara shakes her head, a frown tugging at her lips. "Seriously, who would I hang out with? I don't have any other friends." She pouted, crossing her arms over her chest defensively.
Isaac couldn't help but snort, rolling his eyes in amusement. "What about Luke or Alissa? They're your friends, too." He reminded her, giving her a pointed look.
"They're not Eli," Imara counters, her tone stubborn. "No one could replace Eli." She murmured, her cheeks flushing pink.
Isaac arches an eyebrow, not missing the blush on her cheeks or the way her heart skipped a beat. He smirks knowingly, a playful glint in his eyes. "Is that so?" He teases, a smirk tugging at his lips. "Someone's got a little crush on her best friend, huh?"
Imara's eyes widen in horror, her cheeks turning even redder. "What? No, I don't!" She stammers, her heart racing in panic. "Eli's just my best friend, that's all."
Isaac's smirk grew at hearing her heart race, not believing her denial. "Oh, yeah? Then why is your heart racing?" He pointed out, giving her a knowing look.
"I'm just embarrassed that you caught me and Eli stealing the jeep, that's all," Imara huffs, trying to cover up her embarrassment. "Stop teasing me, dad, it's not funny."
"Alright, alright, I'll drop it," Isaac concedes, though he still had a mischievous smile on his lips. "For now." He added, earning a groan from her.
"Thanks for your support." Imara grumbled, sinking further into her seat, her cheeks still burning with embarrassment. She looked out the window, watching the scenery pass by as her dad continued to drive them home.
Her mind was a whirlwind of thoughts and emotions. She was still reeling from the fact that her dad had caught her and Eli stealing the jeep, and that he had also teased her about her feelings for Eli. Was he right though? Did she have a crush on her best friend? She didn't want to think about it. It was too confusing, and she had enough on her plate already. She sighed, closing her eyes as she rested her head against the window, trying to calm her racing heart.
A/N i love eli & isabella so much, anyone got any shipping names ideas??
