CHAPTER SEVEN, zombie light garden

Davina had to admit she was impressed by the whole song and the dances. She was amused and intrigued by everything. At one point she ended up standing by Bonzo, watching him curiously as he worked the DJ. It was all so cool and she was so impressed by everyone's dances. When the song was over, Davina found herself exploring the club. She had no idea this place existed and it was the most fascinating thing she had ever seen. As the night went on, Davina overheard a little girl and it sounded like she was practicing cheering. Her curiosity got the best of her and she followed the voice.

"I'm crazy, I'm cute, zombie to boot. I'm rockin', I smile, zombies aren't vile."

Davina found herself in a room that had lights scattered around. There was some different paintings on the walls as well. There was a round platform in the middle of the room that the young girl stood on. On the round platform, the middle of it was open and overlooked the main floor, a railing surrounded the opening of the round platform. A stuffed dog was sat by the young girl as she cheered and Davina couldn't help the smile that formed on her face.

"I don't know much about cheering, but I thought that was really great." Davina speaks up, startling the little girl. She smiles sheepishly. "I didn't mean to interrupt or startle you, I just overheard you cheering and it sounded amazing." She told her.

The young girl turns to face her with wide eyes, looking scared and nervous about getting caught. "I wasn't doing anything. Certainly not cheering." She drops the pom poms that were most likely handmade, looking nervous. "Please don't tell anyone." She pleaded in a quiet voice.

Davina frowns, confused why anyone would be upset with the little girl cheering. She was just doing something she loved and that was okay. Davina steps closer to her, giving her a small smile. "I won't tell anyone. I promise. I'm Davina." She introduced herself, deciding not to ask why she was afraid to be caught cheering.

The girl relaxes a little, smiling shyly. "I'm Zoey." She walks over to where Davina stood, sitting on the edge of the platform. "You're the girl on the football team right?" She asked curiously.

"Yeah, that's me. How'd you know that?" Davina inquired, curious and surprise about how she knew that.

"Me and my dad go to the football games to cheer on my brother." Zoey smiled and Davina's eyes widen a bit, looking surprised.

"Zed is your brother?" Davina had no idea Zed had a younger sister, but she could see it now. Zoey did look similar to Zed.

"Yup. So, do you like my brother?" Zoey asked, her lips curling up into a mischievous smile.

"Um, well...I mean...Yeah, we're close friends." Davina stuttered a little, her cheeks turning a light shade of red. "So, uh, you're great at cheerleading, Zoey." She quickly said, hoping to change the subject.

Zoey's eyes lit up. "Thanks, but my pet Xander doesn't seem that impressed." She admitted, picking up her stuffed dog and placing him on her lap with a small pout. "Well, I think he should be, you're really great at it." Davina comments, smiling at seeing the young girl grin at her comment. "And anyways, I think you're old enough to have a real pet, I'm surprised you don't have one. I think you would be a great pet owner." Zoey smiled excitedly at her words.

"Stop teasing her." A familiar voice speaks up, causing Davina to turn around, seeing Eliza walking over to them. "You know they don't allow zombies to have pets."

Davina's eyes widen at hearing that and she frowns, a frown on her face. "No, um, I'm sorry. I didn't know that. That's awful. It's unfair too." She glances at Zoey and she frowned, hating the idea of not being allowed to have a pet. "But um, yeah, I'm still learning things about zombies, everything I've been taught about you guys are wrong and I hate it me and others had been taught wrong about you guys. I mean, you're great, Eliza. You're so talented with computers, you're really smart and cool, also pretty."

Eliza looks surprised by the compliment and smiles shyly. "You think I'm pretty?"

"Yeah, of course." Davina smiles. "You're style is so cool, by the way." She adds, pointing at Eliza's jacket. "Love your jacket."

"Thanks." Eliza grinned.

"There you are." A relieved voice says and Davina glances over to the direction she heard the voice, smiling upon seeing Zed. Zed was relieved he finally found Davina and that she was alright. He had been trying to look for her for awhile and had gotten worried. He was so relieved to see her safe. Then his eyes widen when he noticed his younger sister there. "Zoey? Woah...What are you doing here?"

"Please, I'm not gonna miss a Zombie Mash." Zoey shrugged.

"Zoey..." Zed's voice trailed off as he sighed, upset that his sister came here when she wasn't supposed to.

"Come on." Zoey grins and moves to sit on her knees. "Who's a good boy?" She asked, pretending as if Zed was a dog. Davina raised her eyebrows, looking a bit amused as she watched this. Zed crosses his arms, looking a bit reluctant at first before he imitated a bark. Then he pretends to act like a dog as he walks over to Zoey, causing her to smile wide. "Good boy, good boy." Davina smiled softly, thinking it was sweet how Zed was with his little sister.

"Alright, alright. I'll take you home." Eliza offers, pushing Zed away. She then picks up Zoey with a smile. "Zed's gotta make sure Davina gets out of here."

"Eliza, we should definitely hang out sometime." Davina suggests with a smile. "Maybe you can help me with computers. I'm terrible at it." She admitted with a chuckle. She hadn't been lying. Computers were not her strong suit.

Eliza pauses, narrowing her eyes at Davina to see if she was lying. But she didn't see any sign of a lie, so she relaxes and smiles at her. "Yeah, sure."

"I love your boots by the way." Davina adds. "They're so cool." She compliments her. "Seriously, your style is so cool."

"Oh, thanks. They're orthotic. I've got the draggy foot thing going on, so..." Eliza's voice trailed off as she shrugged. Davina chuckled and nodded. She grabbed the pom poms and handed them to Zoey, who smiled at her.

Eliza then turns to Zed with a smile. "She's cool." She whispered.

"Yeah, for a human, right?" Zed asked with a small smirk.

Eliza shakes her head. "No, she's just cool. You guys look good together." She admitted, earning a surprised look from Zed before he smiled a little. Eliza then started to leave with Zoey, but before they did Davina noticed Zoey almost forgot her stuffed dog.

"Hey, Zoey. You almost forgot Xander." She held up the stuffed dog, holding it out for the young girl.

Zoey smiles wide and takes the stuffed dog, hugging it close to her. "Thank you, Davina." She grins, waving goodbye before leaving with Eliza. "So, uh, what is this room? What's up with all the lights?" She asked curiously, glancing around the room.

"It's a zombie light garden." Zed replied with a soft smile, offering his hand to her.

"A zombie light garden?" Davina said curiously, putting her hand in his and letting him pull her closer to him. "I've never heard of that before. Sounds pretty cool."

"Yeah, it is. It's one of my favorite places." Zed explains. He pulls her onto the round platform and she sits on the edge, smiling as he stands between her legs. "You like the mash, so far?" He asked curiously.

Davina grins and nods, glad he had trusted her enough to share his secret place with her. "Yeah, it's amazing. The fact you brought me here and that I've met other zombies, I'm really honored, Zed. Thank you."

"You're welcome." Zed smiles and reaches his hands out, taking hers. "I trust you. I've been trusting you and I'm happy I have. You're so kind, Davi. You've done nothing but show me kindness and support and I'm glad I've found someone like you."

Davina felt butterflies in her stomach and her heart raced at his words. She lifts his hands and kisses his knuckles, smiling softly at him. "I feel the same way. And I'll continue to support you and stand by your side. You have no idea how much you mean to me, Zed." She didn't have the courage to tell him how she truly felt yet, but she hoped that she could tell him someday.

Zed smiles wider and he felt butterflies in his stomach at her words and the fact she kissed his knuckles. She was the first girl he had ever felt this way about. She was so different than the other humans and he liked her because of it. He had always wondered if he would find someone, if he would find a girl he was truly interested in. And then he met Davina. She was a human, but she was different. She was kind and sweet. She had a bit of spunk to her and he found that so attractive. She was a strong and fierce player on the football team and could be sarcastic and witty but also sweet. She was the whole package and he was so glad that she was in his life.

"You mean a lot to me too, Davi." He replies, squeezing her hands softly. He wasn't ready to confess his feelings for her, but he had a feeling she felt the same way. He was planning to tell her how he truly felt about her. Just not yet. He didn't have enough courage to do it.  "This is random, but, uh, I got a question. What got you into football? Is it a family thing?" He asked curiously. He didn't know much about Davina's family, but he wanted to learn more about her and her family.

Davina tensed up a bit and bit her bottom lip, glancing down at their hands. She didn't really want to talk about her family. She was trying her best to keep them away from her mind. She didn't even like to think about them. Zed seemed to notice this and frowned.

"Hey, are you okay? If you don't wanna talk about your family, you don't have to. I won't make you." He reassures her. He didn't mean to upset her, he had just been curious and wanted to learn more about her. "I just...I wanna know more about you."

Davina's eyes flicker up to meet his gaze. He was so sweet and kind, it made her heart melt. He was so respectful and understanding and she loved him for that. "It's not that, it's just..." She takes a deep breath. "It's just kind of a hard subject to talk about...Okay, so my dad and older brother, they both played football and taught me everything I know about it. Then my older brother went to the military after he graduated high school and I just...I kind of lost interest in playing football. It didn't feel right to play without him. And when my older brother died in battle, that's when I stopped playing entirely. It just wasn't the same anymore and I just didn't have the heart to play without him. I was only thirteen when he died and I didn't know how to deal with it." She confessed.

She hadn't talked about her brother to anyone in a long time. She didn't know why she decided to now, but there was something about him that just made her feel comfortable and safe and like she could tell him anything. "I guess, it wasn't until recently, where I've wanted to play again. It's like I have the passion and heart for it again. And I'm really glad because it allowed me to spend more time with you." She admitted, a soft smile on her lips.

"Davina, I had no idea..." Zed frowned, not knowing what else to say. He had no idea how to respond. He hadn't expected her to tell him all of this. He felt so bad for her, she had gone through so much. She was so strong, having dealt with so much and he admired her for it. He hated that she had gone through so much loss. But he was also glad he got to spend more time with her thanks to football. And he felt honored she told him this.

"It's okay, you didn't know. I never told you, I haven't told anyone. You're the first person I've told about this." She confessed, reaching a hand up to brush his hair back. "I haven't talked about my brother in years and it's weird, I feel like I can tell you anything. And I want to."

"I feel the same way, Davi." Zed admits, moving his hands to cup her face, his thumbs brushing her cheeks. He couldn't explain it, but there was something about her. Something that just made him feel like he could tell her anything. He felt comfortable with her and he loved that about her. "I've never had this before, a connection like this with someone. You're so special, Davina."

Davina felt butterflies in her stomach as he said those words. "You're so special too, Z. In more ways than you know." She smiles softly at him, placing her hands on his. "You're incredible and I'm lucky to have you." She admitted, moving his hand and kissing his palm.

A shy smile forms on his lips and he couldn't help the blush that appeared on his cheeks. His eyes were focused on her lips, his thoughts were all over the place. He wanted to kiss her. He had wanted to for awhile now. He was falling for her and he was falling fast. He wondered if she was falling for him too. He hoped she was. He wondered if she would be okay with him kissing her. His eyes move back up to her eyes and he noticed she had been staring at his lips too. That's when he decided he was going to kiss her.

His eyes move back down to her lips, his hands still cupping her face. Her lips looked so soft and he wondered how it would feel to kiss her. "Screw it." He muttered and he leaned in to kiss her, but stopped when suddenly lights were turned on, panicked screams are heard and the music is shut off. Zombie Patrol is heard causing the two to share a panicked look.

"Come with me." Zed quickly ushered her, gently tugging her along with him.

"Where are we going?" Davina asked in a hushed whisper as they ran off.

"Somewhere safe." Zed replies and pulls her over to a wall. "Come on." He whispered and opened a secret door.

"Woah..." Davina said in awe as he revealed the hidden passage. She followed him inside, her heart racing with adrenaline and anticipation. The passage was dark and narrow, but Zed's hand in hers provided a comforting anchor in the uncertainty.

The narrow passage felt like a maze, twisting and turning, but Zed seemed to know exactly where he was going. Davina's heart was pounding in her chest as they hurried through the darkness, the sound of Zombie Patrol echoing faintly in the distance. She couldn't believe they were running from the authorities, but at the same time, she trusted Zed completely.

Finally, they emerged into a dimly lit room, hidden away from prying eyes. It was small but cozy, with makeshift furniture and decorations that gave it a homely feel despite its clandestine nature. Zed closed the secret door behind them, and they both let out a breath they hadn't realized they were holding.

"Are you okay?" Zed asked, concern evident in his voice as he turned to face Davina.

"Yeah, I'm fine," Davina replies, though her voice trembled slightly with lingering adrenaline. "That was...Intense."

In the dim light of the hidden room, Davina and Zed stood facing each other, the tension from their narrow escape still lingering in the air. Zed reached out, his hand finding Davina's and squeezing it gently, reassurance passing between them without words.

"I'm sorry," Zed apologizes, looking guilty. "I didn't mean for things to escalate like that. I just wanted to show you a good time, not get you caught up in all of this."

Davina shakes her head, a small smile tugging at her lips despite the lingering adrenaline. "Hey, don't apologize. This...This is all part of the adventure, right?" She squeezes his hand back, her eyes meeting his with unwavering trust. "And besides, I trust you. Completely."

Zed's expression softens at her words, gratitude flickering in his eyes. "Thank you, Davina. For trusting me. For being here."

"Always," Davina replies, her voice unwavering. "You've shown me a side of the world I never knew existed, and I wouldn't want to be anywhere else."

For a moment, they simply stood there, their hands intertwined, the weight of unspoken words hanging in the air between them. But then Zed took a step closer, his gaze locking with hers in silent understanding. And in that moment, with the world outside fading away, they closed the distance between them, their lips meeting in a gentle, tentative kiss. They both haven't kissed before this and this was their first kiss, but it was perfect. It felt right. The kiss was soft and sweet, filled with unspoken emotions and promises of what was yet to come. And in that moment, the world fell away, and all that mattered was the two of them, lost in each other. When they finally pulled apart, neither of them could suppress their wide grins. Davina's heart was pounding in her chest as her eyes met Zed's, a giddy feeling bubbling up inside her. She could tell from his expression that he was just as happy as she was, and it made her feel like she was flying. They were both blushing, neither of them able to believe what had just happened. After all, they had just shared their first kiss. It was special and intimate and perfect, and neither of them would have it any other way.

"Well, uh...That was amazing," Davina admits, unable to keep the smile off her face. "I didn't know you were such a good kisser." She teased, earning a laugh from him.

He chuckles and shakes his head. "Yeah, you're not so bad yourself." He teases back, causing her to laugh. "That was my first kiss." He confessed.

"Mine too." She smiles, feeling a rush of warmth at their shared experience. "I'm glad it was with you."

Zed's smile softens, his eyes filled with a warmth that sends a shiver down Davina's spine. "Me too," He whispers, his voice barely above a breath. "I wouldn't have wanted it to be with anyone else."

In that moment, surrounded by the quiet intimacy of their hidden sanctuary, Davina feels a surge of emotion welling up inside her. She knows, without a doubt, that she's falling for Zed. Falling fast and hard, with no intention of looking back. And as she gazed into his eyes, she knows that he feels the same way.

"I'm falling for you, Davina. And I don't want to stop." He admits. "I know we haven't known each other long, but you're so special to me. You're so amazing and kind and beautiful and so many other incredible things. I can't stop thinking about you. And I just...I know this might sound crazy, but I've never felt this way about anyone before. I can't explain it, but I feel a connection with you. Like, something deeper. I don't know...I just know you make me feel more alive than I ever felt in a long time." He confesses. "And I think, I hope, you feel the same way."

"Zed, I...I feel the same way," Davina admits, her voice soft but filled with sincerity. "I've never felt this way about anyone before either. You make me feel things I never thought possible. You make me feel alive and seen and understood in a way that no one else ever has. You're so amazing, Zed, and I'm so lucky to have met you. To have gotten to know you. I'm falling for you too, and I can't imagine feeling this way about anyone else." She pauses, taking a deep breath as she lets her words sink in. "You're so incredible, and I want to be with you. If you'll have me, of course."

Zed's expression softens as her words sink in, his heart fluttering in his chest at her confession. "I want to be with you too. I'd love nothing more than to be your boyfriend, if you'll have me as well." He replied, a smile on his lips.

Davina felt her heart race at his words and she couldn't help but grin. "Obviously, I'll have you. I wouldn't want anyone else." She replied. Zed laughed and leaned down, his lips meeting hers again in another soft kiss. He wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her closer and Davina's arms moved to wrap around his neck, pulling him closer as well. Their bodies were pressed together as they kissed and Davina could feel her heart fluttering in her chest.

The kiss was slow and tender, filled with unspoken emotions and a silent promise of what was yet to come. Davina's hands moved to tangle in his hair, pulling him even closer as she lost herself in the moment. She had never felt so happy and alive, and she never wanted it to end. When they finally pulled apart, their breaths were shallow, and their eyes were locked in a heated gaze. Zed's hands moved to cup her face, his thumbs brushing her cheeks tenderly as he stared into her eyes. Davina's eyes were filled with desire and longing, and she couldn't help but pull him into another passionate kiss. They both knew this was only the beginning of their relationship, but they were both eager to explore this newfound intimacy. As their kisses became more heated, Davina and Zed knew that this was just the start of something incredible, and they couldn't wait to see where it would take them.

"As much as I hate to admit, you should probably head home." He mumbles against her lips. "We can talk tomorrow, okay?"

"I don't wanna go. I wanna stay with you." She replied, a small pout forming on her lips.

Zed chuckles, pulling away from her slightly, but not moving his hands. "I wish you could stay, but we can't get caught. We'll be in so much trouble. And it's not that safe for you here, especially at night. So I want you to go home, where you're safe."

"Fine." Davina huffs and gives him one last kiss before pulling away. "You got a phone right?" She asked, pulling a pen out of her pocket. She always kept a pen with her, in case she had to sign something or just to write stuff down.

"Yeah, I do." Zed admits. "Not the best but it still works."

"Good." She grins, putting her pen away and takes his phone when he hands it to her. "Here's my number, text me or call me whenever you want. I'm usually free." She put her number in his contacts and gave it back to him.

"Thank you." Zed smiles softly, pocketing his phone. "I'll show you back to the secret exit and make sure you get back safely. Come on." He led her back through the narrow passage, his hand firmly holding hers as they navigate the twists and turns. When they finally reach the secret exit, Zed opened it cautiously, peering outside to ensure the coast is clear before motioning for Davina to follow him.

"Be careful out there," Zed murmurs, his voice low with concern. "And remember, if anything happens, if you ever need me, just call, okay? And text me when you get home so I know you got home safe."

Davina nods, a soft smile on her lips as she squeezes his hand. "I will. And thank you, Zed, for everything. Tonight has been...Unforgettable." She kissed his cheek and pulled away, waving goodbye.

Zed returns her smile, his eyes filled with warmth as he waves back. "Goodnight, Davina."

"Goodnight, Zed."

With a final glance and a lingering touch, Davina slips out into the night, disappearing into the darkness as Zed watches her go with a mixture of worry and longing. As she makes her way home, her mind buzzing with thoughts of their shared moments and the promise of more to come, Davina can't help but feel a sense of exhilaration coursing through her veins. This is only the beginning, and she can't wait to see where it leads.

She felt giddy and excited and couldn't stop smiling on her walk home. She had her first boyfriend! He was a zombie, but still. She didn't care about that, he was amazing. She had fallen for him and was so glad he had fallen for her too. When she got home, she texted Zed and let him know she had made it home safely and that she would see him tomorrow. He responded immediately, telling her goodnight and that he can't wait to see her tomorrow. She was smiling and giggling, not being able to help herself. She had a boyfriend and she was happy. She looked up from her phone when the light in the living room suddenly turned on. She grimaced when she saw her parents sitting on the couch. She didn't come home after the game and just told them she was out with friends. But she was out later planned and her parents were not happy.

"Sit down, now." Her father commanded, his tone angry and stern. Davina sighed and sat down in the chair across from them. She was so happy and excited and her parents were going to ruin it. She shifted uncomfortably in her seat, bracing herself for whatever lecture her parents had prepared for her. She knew they wouldn't be pleased that she was out late without telling them, but she couldn't bring herself to care at the moment. All she could think about was Zed and how happy she was to be his girlfriend.

A/N changed things up a bit for this scene lol i love davina & zed so much
