Scarlet In The Hall With The Rope

Chapter 24:

Beckinsile's Point of View

"Another week gone by," Oliver says into the phone one Friday evening a couple of weeks before Halloween.

I'm seated on my bed talking to Oliver as I've done every night before now. I've disregarded my weekend homework in favor of TV and conversations with Oliver. I get up from my bed and walk down to the living room. Gabe is at a party and Nate is at hockey practice so I have the house to myself until my parents get home from work.

"I know; school is just flying by," I say with a laugh as I sit down on the cozy couch.

"I wish it'd just be Halloween already; do you have any Halloween plans yet?" Oliver asks.

"No, the usual most likely; watch horror movies, hand out candy and terrorize the neighborhood children." I say with an easy laugh.

"Would you like to swap those plans, as awesome as they sound, for a Halloween party with me? My friend Brad's hosting a party and says I'm welcome to bring a guest..." Oliver's voice trails off as he waits for my response.

"I guess I'll ditch the comfy couch and huge bowl of candy for your party Oliver but it won't be easy breaking up with my couch..."

"I know but just tell it to be strong; I know it can get through this no matter how hard it seems in the moment..." I can hear Oliver howling with laughter.

"The couch doesn't find it that funny," I pout but even I can't keep this act up.

"Hey, do you know what you're going to be?" Oliver asks in a more serious tone.

"No, do you have any ideas?"

"Well, I've always been a fan of the Victoria Secret Angels but that's much too conservative for you..." Oliver says thoughtfully.

"You dirty minded little boy; your mama needs to take you to church ASAP..." I can't contain my laughter and soon enough both of us are laughing until we literally can't anymore.

"I'm sure anything you come up with will look amazing on you..." Oliver says sweetly.

"Aw thanks, Olly Pop." I can feel myself blush a little even though he can't see me.

"What do you think I should be?" Oliver says after a slight pause.

"Tarzan, king of the jungle..." I say with enthusiasm.

"Oh and I'm the dirty minded person; Tarzan wear like one piece of cloth and calls it clothing." Oliver scoffs in a mock disgusted way.

"Aw, is somebody self-conscious? Need I remind you that you're the one who asked me to be a Victoria Secret Angel...?"

"I didn't straight up ask; it was more of an implied thing..." Oliver has a smirk evident in his tone.

"How charming; your mother would be so proud..."

"Thank you," Oliver chuckles.

"Oliver, we should do something tonight..."

"Well, what do you want to do?"

"You could come over to my house; we could order pizza and play board games..." My voice trails off as Oliver begins to respond.

"Do you have Clue?"

"Yes,"

"Good; I'll be over in ten; you should invite Ed and Fiona too. Board games are more fun with friends; bye, Becks..." After Oliver hangs up, I immediately dial Ed's number and then press "add call" so I can talk to both Ed and Fi at the same time.

"Hey," It's Ed's voice that I hear first followed by Fiona's.

"Hey guys; do you all want to come over? Oliver and I were going to order pizza and play board games..." I hold my breath as the two respond.

"Yeah; I'll be over in like five...Fi, do you want a ride?" Ed says as I wait for Fiona's response.

"Yes to the pizza and yes to the ride." Fiona says happily and hangs up.

"See you soon, Becks." Ed then hangs up to.

I go to the kitchen and look for the pizza delivery number. I locate it and dial the number. I hear it ring a few times before a cheery female voice picks up and asks for my order.

"I'll take a large cheese and a large pepperoni..." I say as I pull out the emergency credit card from the kitchen drawer.

"That'll be fifteen dollars; how will you be paying today?" The voice says.

"Credit..."

I give her the credit card number and she tells me that my pizza will be delivered to my house in thirty minutes or it's free. I thank her and then hang up as I hear a knock at the door. I get up and discover Oliver on my doorstep.

"Olly Pop," I squeal a little as he pulls me into his embrace.

We walk into the living hand in hand and plop down on my mom's prize sofa at the same time. Oliver is dressed in black sweatpants, a tight gray t-shirt, and a pair of red converse. His hair is tamed by a black beanie and he has a four leaf clover leather necklace around his neck.

"You're so adorable when you think I can't see you checking me out." Oliver runs his finger through my hair as I lay my head down on his shoulder.

"Aren't I adorable all the time?" I ask in a cutesy voice.

"Touché," Oliver chuckles as he intertwines our fingers.

There's a knock at the door a minute later; Oliver and I get up unwillingly to answer it. I walk towards the front door and open it to find Ed and Fiona standing on the front steps. They walk through the front door and give me a hug. Our whole little group walks towards the living room laughing and chatting. I send Ed off to find Clue and Monopoly while I go look for pens. We've both completed our missions within a few minutes and are back in the living room with Fiona and Oliver. I set up Monopoly and we begin playing.

~~~~~
There are two boxes of pizza on the floor and soda cans littering the floor. My parents had come home for about five minute before leaving for some client dinner. They didn't even care that I'd invited friends over without their permission; which was nice since I never get away with anything. We're deep into a game of monopoly and I'm losing. Oliver of all people is winning and Fiona is a close second. Ed and I have given up playing; we mostly just hand in rent money on every turn as opposed to actually doing something. We both just lay there on the ground and hand in our money like clockwork; I don't think either of us has bought a property all game, courtesy of Oliver and Fiona.
"Guys, can we stop playing?" Ed and I whine.
"Yeah, you guys have already won so let's just play Clue now..." Ed says as he sits up.
"Fine; truce?" Oliver holds out his hand to Fiona and she unwillingly shakes it.
"Finally," Ed and I mutter at the same time.
I grab the Clue box and begin to set up the game.
"I call Green," Oliver says as I hand out the clue sheets.
"I'll be Plum," Ed says as throw pens at each one of them.
"White," Fiona grabs the rumor cards and shuffles the locations, weapons and suspects.
"I guess I'll be Scarlett..." I say as Fiona puts three cards into the confidential envelope.
Fiona hands out the rest of the cards and we all mark down our rumor cards on the clue sheets. We all set our pieces on the starting places before I roll the dice. I move the number of spaces and end up in the observatory. I decide to start a rumor.
"I think it was Peacock in the observatory with the pistol; can you prove me wrong?" I turn to face Oliver who's to my left.
Oliver takes a card from his deck and shows me. It's Peacock. I mark it down on my sheet and we continue on with the game.
~~~~~

It's been half an hour and we've reached the pivotal part in the game. Everyone knows at least part of the mystery and is racing to solve the rest of it. I, unlike the others, know the whole mystery and am just waiting with baited breath for a turn to take me to the pool. The dice come to me and I roll. I hold my breath until the dice are out of my hands. The numbers on the dice are more than enough to get me to the pool. I can here everyone groan as I check my clue sheet.

"I think it was Scarlet in the hall with the rope..." I pull the cards out of the confidential file and smirk.

I throw the cards on to the board one by one. I can see Ed roll his eyes next to me which makes my victory all the more enjoyable.

"Good game," Fiona smiles and gives me a high five.

"I just can't believe that I'm dating a murderer; this is some new information, Beckinsile." Oliver gives me a high five and pulls me into a hug.

"You two are too cute," Ed smirks as we all stand up.

"Thanks; do you guys want to stay for a movie?" I ask as I push the game board off to the side.

"I wish I could but I have a job interview tomorrow and Fi has work in the morning." Ed says with a forlorn look.

"Aw, good luck tomorrow." I give Ed a hug and walk the pair to the front door.

"Thanks; we'll see you later!" Fiona gives me a hug as she follows Ed out to his car.

"Do you want to stay and watch a movie?" I ask as I shut the door.

I turn around and find that Oliver is not behind me. I walk out into the living room and find him comfortably seated on the couch. I slide in next to him and he puts his arm around me. I turn the TV on and sign into Netflix.

"What do you want to watch?" I turn to face Oliver.

"Batman," We say at the same time and then break down laughing.

"We're so N*Sync..." Oliver slaps his knee at his own awful joke.

"You've reached an All Time Low, Marshall..."

"Wow, low blows, Williams..." Oliver has that gleam in his eyes that I love so much and a dimple carved into each cheek.

"You're so cute," I say as the movie begins.

"I know," Oliver pulls me close and I rest my head on his shoulder.

~~~~~
It's close to 3 A.M. and I'm still lying on Oliver's shoulder watching movies. Gabe hasn't come home and Nate apparently went to his friend's house for the night. My parents haven't texted me their whereabouts which isn't unusual for them after a client dinner.
"Hey Becks, do you want me to stay?" I hear Oliver whisper in a raspy voice.
I think about a response and then end up just nodding my head out of fatigue.
"Would you mind?" I say in a weak voice.
"No problem, Babe." Oliver kisses my forehead as I lay back down on his shoulder.
Oliver shifts his position so that he's lying down. I lay down in his arms and he mutes the movie. I fall asleep to the sound of his heartbeat as he strokes my hair gently. I can feel him fall asleep with me and soon enough there isn't a sound in the house except for our steady breathing.
~~~~~

"Becks," I can vaguely make out Oliver's voice in my sleepy state.

"Yes?" I manage and steal a look at the cable box. 8 A.M.

"Do you know where your parents are?" He asks in a concerned tone.

"No, I think they've set a new record; they've never stayed out this late." I say with a yawn as I sit up.

"Do you want to call them?" Oliver sits up as well and adjusts his beanie.

"Yeah; thanks so much for staying with me all night..." I say with a sleepy smile.

"You're welcome, Babe; anything for you..." Oliver rubs his eyes as I reach for my phone.

I dial my mom's number and she picks up after the first ring.

"Mom, where are you?" I say in a slightly agitated way.

"I'm so sorry, Becky. I should've called but our friends from Germany are in town and we completely lost track of time."

"You two were hung over weren't you?" I say with an eye roll.

"Beckinsile Williams," My mom scoffs.

"I have every right to be mad; you left me alone until 8 A.M. You can at least tell me the truth; you owe me that..." I run my hand through my hair and stand up.

"We did have too much to drink and our friends took us back to their house until we sobered up...It wouldn't've been safe for us to drive, honey..." I can hear my mom's voice crack a little.

"It's fine; you guys deserve to let loose every once in a while but please don't stay out this late ever again." I say in a tone that's lacking emotion, most likely caused by my lack of sleep.

"Love you, sweetheart." My mom hangs up and I toss my phone onto the side table before plopping down on the couch again.

"Were they out partying?" Oliver says in a knowing way.

"Embarrassingly, yes... my parents have more of a social life than I do..." I laugh as Oliver takes my hand.

"You don't need a social life; you've got me and I'll keep you busy enough, promise..." Oliver holds his pinky out for mine. I lock mine with his and smirk.

"Do you want an early breakfast?" I say as I make my way to the kitchen.

"Do you have any coffee?" Oliver groans, still seated on the couch.

"I can make some," I say with a small smile.

"Okay; I'll come out..." Oliver stands up with little effort and follows me to the kitchen.

We get out the ingredients for French toast and begin mixing. As soon as the batter is ready, we dip the bread in and set it in a pan on the stove. I grab a spatula from the drawer. Oliver has one hand on my waist and one hand on my spatula wielding arm, just like at the fair except with a spatula instead of bottle toss balls.

"I can do this by myself you know," I look up into Oliver's sleepy gray-blue eyes.

"But it's more fun this way," Oliver says with a smirk.

"You're lucky I feel guilty about making you stay here until 8 A.M or this would not be happening right now." I laugh a little as Oliver tightens his grip on my hand in the cute way that he does.

"Oh, princess, I'd do that a million times over; you don't even need to ask...I refuse to leave you here alone at 3 o'clock in the morning." Oliver smiles as we finish the last piece of toast. "And don't pretend like your aren't enjoying this."

"Maybe I am..." I say as he lets go.

I go to the cupboard to get some plates and the bag of coffee. I grab two forks and hand Oliver a plate as I put a pot of coffee on. Oliver puts a couple of slices on his plate and then takes a seat at the breakfast bar while I serve myself. I take the seat next to him and we both dig in. I chew slowly, savoring each bite.

"This is amazing," Oliver exclaims as he goes in for another bite.

"I'm glad you think so," I smile and get up to pour us each a mug of coffee.

I don't normally drink coffee but this morning I need a pick me up considering I only got like five hours of sleep. I bring Oliver his mug and he immediately takes a sip.

"Thank God for caffeine," Oliver takes another sip.

"We'd all be zombies without it," I chuckle and take a sip.

The coffee burns my throat and tastes like tar but the boost of caffeine helps with my sleeplessness.

"Thanks for breakfast, Becks." Oliver gives me a hug as I set the dishes in the sink.

"No, thank you for staying with me all night; I'm sorry if your parents kill you for it..." I hug him back as we walk towards the door.

"Nah, they won't...my mom's helping my aunt move into her new apartment and my dad was working a case all last night. I texted him and since he's a cop he understood completely." Oliver chuckles as I open the door.

"Good, I'll see you later..." I wrap my arms around his neck and he pulls me close.

"I'll call you," Oliver whispers as he walks out to his bike.

I wave to him as he turns the corner and disappears.

Who's ready for a dramatic party? :P LOL, so these next few chapters will be told in either Beckinsile's or Oliver's point of view(it'll be indicated at the beginning of the chapter) and as I've said before I'm done describing school so I'll be skipping forward to key events instead of describing their boring days at school because that just makes the story unreadable :P ILY Guys!!! J <3
