Chapter 32:
Beckinsile's Point of View
After two more long months of school, it's finally winter break. The atmosphere is light and happy as everyone leaves for their two weeks of winter vacation. Lots of people are talking about their vacations but I'm just glad that I get to stay home and be lazy for two weeks. My grandparents and Aunt Helena's family are coming over for Christmas dinner but that's the biggest thing that's happening to me over winter vacation. Oliver's not going anywhere either so he's promised to help me in my quest to be lazy for two weeks straight. Fiona, on the other hand, is accompanying her family to UCLA to pick up her brother and then her whole family is going to Cancun for the two weeks of vacation.
"I'm going to miss you; text me whenever you can..." Fiona says and pulls me into a hug before getting into her car.
Oliver drapes his arm over my shoulder and leads me to his motorcycle. The first snowflakes of winter are accumulating and there's a light dusting over everything. Oliver hands me his spare helmet and I put it on before straddling the bike. I zip up my coat and grab onto him as he speeds out of the parking lot.
We arrive in my house and my mom's car is in the driveway which means that she's already picked up my grandparents. I get off the bike and unstrap the helmet. Oliver gets off too and takes off his. He pulls me in and leans closer. I place my lips on his and feel his hand caress my cheek gently. We let go and his hand lingers on my cheek.
"I don't know if you'd want to do this but my grandparents are in town and they've undoubtedly seen what just happened..." Oliver places a finger on my lips, interrupting me.
"Are you asking if I'd like to meet your grandparents?" Oliver smirks.
"Well...only if you want to..." I stare at the snow collecting on the driveway.
"I'd love to," Oliver sets his helmet and mine on the bike before following me up to my door.
I unlock the door and immediately catch a glimpse of my grandfather and Nate standing nonchalantly by the door.
"I told you that everyone in my family had a spying problem." I roll my eyes as Grandpa and Nate break down laughing. "We should meet my Grandmother first; she's nicer..." I stick my tongue out at Nate and walk towards the kitchen.
I can smell my Grandmother's famous Chocolate Christmas cake baking as we enter the kitchen.
"Becky," My grandmother squeals and pulls me into a hug.
"Gran," I say and hug her tightly.
"I've missed you so much; you look so pretty, sweetheart..." Gran smoothes my hair and pinches my cheeks a little.
"Thanks; I've missed you too..." I smile as she takes notice of Oliver.
"Who's this?" Gran brushes her hands on her apron and gives Oliver a smile.
"This is my boyfriend, Oliver Marshall..." Oliver holds out his hand and she laughs a little before pulling him into a hug.
"Pleasure to meet you, ma'am..." Oliver says as Gran lets go of him.
"Call me Elizabeth..." Grandma says and smiles at Oliver.
"Gran, we're going to go see Grandpa..." My voice trails off a little.
"Do me a favor and teach him a lesson for spying on you kids; I told him to stay away from that window but Nate was more convincing..." Gran smirks and gets her cake out of the oven.
"Hey Oliver," My mom says before he leaves.
"Yes, Mrs. Williams?" Oliver smiles politely.
"Does your family have any plans for Christmas?"
"No, my siblings are coming back home but none that I'm aware of..." He has a smile on his face as he responds.
"We'd love to have your family over for dinner on Christmas if you guys would like to come..." My mom gives him a small smile and he nods.
"I'll mention it to them; I think they'd love to spend Christmas with friends." I push Oliver into the living after he responds.
Grandpa and Nate are seated on the couch and Grandpa is giving him one of those 'back when I was a boy' stories. Nate looks like he's about to fall asleep; relief washes over his face as we enter the room.
"How'd Gabe get out of this story?" I smirk as Grandpa gets up and gives me a hug.
"I've missed you, Becky..."
"I've missed you too, Grandpa..."
"Thank you, thank you..." Nate mouths with folded hands and a praising expression.
"Grandpa, there's someone I'd like you to meet...This is Oliver Marshall, my boyfriend..." I let go of him and allow Oliver to step forward.
Grandpa shakes Oliver's hand firmly.
"So, you're the boy that's putting a smile on my Becky's face?" Grandpa looks serious but his eyes are gleaming; he's truly a child at heart.
"Yes, sir; I'm hoping that I am..." Oliver smiles back.
"If you make Becky happy then I'll accept it; welcome, Oliver..." Grandpa chuckles a little and I see Oliver's shoulders loosen up a little bit.
~~~~~
I'm still on my computer looking up gifts for Oliver around ten o'clock. I feel sleepy thanks to Gran's huge dinner and rich chocolate cake. I rub my eyes a little and continue my search. I'm thinking of getting him a necklace with the All Time Low logo on it, to fuel his fanboy-ness but I haven't come across the perfect one yet.
I type it in the search bar one more time and suddenly the perfect one presents itself. It's small and strung on a leather cord. I click on the website and find out that it's in stock and can be rushed for a small fee. I click 'add to cart' and begin checking out.
"Its fate," I sigh happily and click on rush shipping.
Christmas is on Wednesday and the rush shipping says that it should arrive by Tuesday so I order it as fast as I can. I get a confirmation email that says it should arrive by Tuesday and then I go bed with a smile on my face. This is the start of a great vacation.
~~~~~
"Becks, you want to come over and bake gingerbread with my family? My siblings are in town and they really want to meet you..."
"How did they find out about me?" I smirk.
"I may or may not have mentioned at the dinner table last night..." There's silence on his end of the phone conversation after he says that.
"You're too sweet," I sigh happily before answering his request. "I can't see why my parents would say no; my mom's taking my Gran out to the mall for last minute shopping and all the 'men' are going to a hockey game in the city." I put air quotes around men because they're all just a bunch of children.
"Good, do you want me to come pick you up?" Oliver asks sweetly.
"Sure, I think both of the cars are gone so I have no way of getting to your house." I chuckle a little.
"Okay, I'll be over in fifteen."
"See you then; love you, Oliver." With that I hang up and go get ready.
~~~~~
Oliver's on my front steps in fifteen just as he'd said. I give him a small kiss as he leads me to the car. He opens my door for me and I slip in. We drive in silence and when we pull up in front of his house I notice two cars that aren't usually there; they must be his siblings'. He grabs my hand and we walk to his front door. Oliver pulls out his keys and unlocks the door.
"Oliver's home," I hear a female voice call from the kitchen.
She walks out and gives me a huge grin. The girl has long, chestnut colored hair and bright blue eyes surrounded by black eyeliner. She's dressed in a pair of leggings, a long sleeve shirt and an apron covered in Santa hats.
"Hi, I'm Victoria, Oliver's older sister." Victoria holds her hand out for me and I shake it.
"I'm Beckinsile..."
"I know; Oliver talks about you all the time..." My cheeks warm at her comment. "Don't worry, Beckinsile; it's all good things...Why don't you guys come out to the kitchen; that's where everyone else is." She sets her hand on my shoulder and leads me to Oliver's massive kitchen.
"You must be Beckinsile..." A woman with a kind face and blue eyes like Victoria's holds her hand out for me.
She's dressed in a pair of jeans, a t-shirt and an apron that also matches Victoria's. Her hair is piled up on her head and held together with chopsticks.
"Hello, it's very nice to meet you..." I smile and shake her hand.
"I'm Marsha, Oliver's mom..." She smirks in Oliver's direction before moving on. "Luke, we have a guest..."
A boy with dark hair and brown eyes walks into the room. He's wearing a sweatshirt and a pair of blue jeans.
"You must be the girl Oliver can't stop talking about..." The boy smirks and holds his hand out to me.
"You leave your brother alone; it's cute that he talks about her so much." Marsha narrows her eyes at the boy but she's still smiling.
"No, it's creepy mother...I'm Luke by the way." I shake Luke's hand and give him a polite smile.
"I'm Beckinsile..."
"That's a cool name..." Luke's voice trails off the minute he sees the gingerbread cookie dough. "Are we making gingerbread?" He practically squeals.
"Yes, don't we every year?" Marsha smirks as she spreads out the dough. "Everybody grab a cookie cutter and begins cutting out cookies..." Oliver's mom moves off to the side as we all begin cutting out cookies.
After all the dough's been turned into little gingerbread men, we begin to add cinnamon candies as buttons and then pop them in the oven.
"Would you guys like hot chocolate?" Marsha has a smile on her face she pulls some mugs out of the cabinet.
"Yeah," We all say in unison.
Ring. Ring. Luke grabs his phone and goes out of the room to answer the insistent caller.
"So, do you have any siblings, Beckinsile?" Victoria says, trying to make small talk.
"Yeah, I've got two brothers..."
"We're twinning..." Victoria smirks and high fives me. "It's a handful being the only girl, isn't it?"
"It's terrible; they're always ganging up on me and being really annoying." I say as I take a seat with Victoria at the breakfast bar.
"I totally get you; Oliver and Luke have pulled so many pranks on me like you can't even imagine."
"Pranks are the worst..." I nod my head in agreement.
"What are your brothers' names?"
"Gabe and Nate Williams..."
"I remember Gabe Williams...He was a freshman when I was a senior yet he still had the balls to flirt with me...Lord, he was such a player..." Victoria shudders at the memory and I laugh a little.
"He's still that cocky, I'm sad to say..."
"I can imagine; boys like him never grow out of their egos..." Victoria has a gleam in her eyes as she turns to face me.
"Agreed," I high five her and we both giggle.
Oliver's mom brings around the hot chocolate and pulls the gingerbread out of the oven. She hands us each one and we all take a bite at the same time.
"Oh my gosh, these are amazing!" My eyes light up and Oliver smirks a little.
"I'm glad you like them," Marsha blushes a little at the compliment. "You know what we should do...we should watch a Christmas movie..."
"Mom," Oliver whines.
"Nonsense, Oliver Marshall...I've made my decision...what movie would you like to watch, Beckinsile?"
"I like 'It's a Wonderful Life'..." I say shyly.
"Your girlfriend has taste," Victoria says through bites of gingerbread.
"Thank you," Oliver says as we all walk towards the living room.
Marsha sets up the movie and we all settle into the couch. I'm mushed comfortably in-between Victoria and Oliver as the movie begins. The Marshalls have got a fire burning in the fireplace and there's snow falling outside; the whole situation is picturesque and cozy.
~~~~~
"I'm so glad you came..." Victoria says as I stand in the doorway with Oliver.
She pulls me into a hug which I gladly return.
"Thanks so much for having me; I had a great time..." I say sincerely as Oliver pulls me out the door.
"Your family is so much fun," I tell Oliver the minute we're in the car.
"I'm glad you liked them..." Oliver chuckles and clips his seatbelt in place.
He backs out of the driveway and drives towards my house. When we arrive, I get out of the car and Oliver comes over to my side. He wraps his hands around my waist and places his lips gently on mine. I tangle my fingers in his hair that's full of little snowflakes thanks to the now falling snow. I tilt my head around and pull him closer to me.
