Seeing Double

Seeing someone with the same face as me was a really weird experience. Probably not if I was a twin, but, I wasn't. It was fucking freaky, and the other me frowned as he looked me up and down.

"What's your name?" I asked him again.

"People call me Speed," he replied "But my real name is Callum Grady."

His voice was exactly the same as mine, and it sent a shiver down my spine as he spoke.

"Speed?" I asked, "What, are you some sort of shit superhero?"

Callum laughed then. Crap.  It sounded just like mine, and I found myself smiling back at him, despite the weirdness of the situation. Huh. Here I was looking at a stranger with the same face as me, and for some reason, I felt calm.

"I was chasing Magpie through downtown Pleasantville, and then I... I don't know what happened, but I woke up in this forest. I was exploring when I saw the fire start up."

"Well, thanks for stepping in," I replied "Where did you say you were from?"

"Pleasantville City," Callum replied "I assume that I'm in another dimension to my own as you are obviously supposed to be me."

Another dimension? Was he fucking mad?

"Hang on," I said "Let me get this straight, you believe that you somehow travelled to another dimension?"

"Well, it seems as logical an explanation as any," he replied.

I mean, he had a point. Maybe it had something to do with Will's spell when he tried to release Lucifer? I wasn't sure if it was even possible for magic to open a portal to a parallel world, but it was at least some sort of explanation.

"Alec!" I heard Kian shout from behind me. After a moment I felt his hand on my shoulder "Will's gone,"

Wait, what?

"What do you mean gone?" I asked, turning to look at him.

"M cast a spell and the three of them disappeared."

Shit. That wasn't good.

"Alec?" he asked looking at Callum with a shocked expression "Who is this guy?"

"I'm not sure yet," I replied "An alternate version of me... I think."

"I'm Callum Grady," Callum replied, looking at Kian weirdly "You look just like my friend Jasper. He's a Super too. Chameleon." He sighed "If this isn't Pleasantville, then what is this place?"

"Moonstone," I replied.

Yeah, this was going to take some getting used to.

"Huh, well, I suggest we work on finding out how to get me back," Callum said "Me being in this version of reality can't be a good thing."

He was right. If my alternate self could end up here, then, these different worlds were somehow merging together. Shit. Yeah, there is no way that was going to be a good thing. Maybe Lucifer was behind all this, opening portals to alternate universes to bring about the end of the world faster, maybe?

I had no idea, but seeing double of myself was starting to give me a headache.

"Alright, so you want us to find a way to get you home," I said "We'll need to talk to our friends, maybe we can figure it out."

"Those are your friends?" Callum asked looking behind us where Victoria, Michael,  Harry Jekyll, my mum and Dylan were waiting and watching us.

"Well, they're family, really," Kian replied.

"Do you have family back in... Pleasantville?" I asked him.

"No, my parents died when I was young," Callum replied "I was raised in several foster homes until my powers became evident."

"What happened then?" I asked.

"I was inducted into Turnscrew's Academy For Superheroes. They gave me a home, an education. Once I graduated I was offered an official position with the Supers, hence why I have a codename."

"Speed," I realised "Because of how fast you can move."

"Exactly," Callum confirmed.

"Okay, this is going to take a lot of explaining," Kian cut in "So, people have superpowers where you're from?"

"Well, some of us do," Callum replied as we headed over to where everyone was waiting "Before I left, we were having a bit of a crisis. An old villain had returned from the dead and he'd taken over Pleasantville. Seems like it's not much better in this world."

"No, you're right there," Kian replied "Here Lucifer has been released from hell, and the apocalypse could start at any moment. It's hardly going well."

"Well, that's what we're trying to avoid," I added "We're all fighting against it, as you can tell."

I cast a look back at the burnt-out ruins of our shack.

"I see," Callum said "So, in this world, Lucifer actually exists?"

"That's just scratching the surface, really," Kian replied "Alec is a werewolf, me and Dylan are vampires, Victoria is a witch and Michael is an angel."

"Then there's Harry Jekyll," Kian added, "And ghosts as well."

"All of you are supernatural?" Callum asked in disbelief.

"Well, my mum isn't," I replied.

Also, as Kian mentioned it, I wondered where Grace had disappeared to... I hadn't seen her since the fire started.

"This is a lot to take in," Callum said as we reached the rest of the group.

"I couldn't stop him," Victoria said almost immediately "He started to chant and I..." she stopped as she saw Callum "Who, uh, who is this?"

Everyone was looking, and even though it wasn't at me, Callum was my double and I still felt it.

"He looks... like you," Dylan said.

"Guys, this is Callum," I said "And from what we can gather, he's me from an alternative world."

"Well, that's a problem," Harry Jekyll said with a worried look.

"Seriously?" Victoria said, looking Callum up and down "He's an alternative version of you? The height is a bit off."

"We're the same bloody height!" I replied.

"How did you get here?" Michael asked Callum, changing the subject.

"Well, to be honest, I'm not exactly sure," Callum replied "I blacked out, and, then I woke up here."

There were a few moments of silence before Dylan spoke.

"This is seriously weird," he said, "Even by our standards."

He's right, it was. Here we were, a group used to the paranormal, and now we had to add a fucking superhero into the mix. It was too much. The ratio was off. Massively off. We had to get Callum back to his own realm of existence, and quickly.

"So, what's our plan?" Victoria asked "Because The House Of The Apocalypse have made the first move now. It's only a matter of time before Lucifer strikes."

She wasn't wrong. Lucifer still hadn't shown up since his release from hell. It was almost as if he'd completely vanished from the face of the earth.

That didn't bode well at all.

"We need to find another way back to my world," Callum replied, "Maybe whatever brought me here is connected to this apocalypse your facing."

Maybe, he was right. The spell that Will had cast to release Lucifer might well be connected to Callum's arrival. It was the best lead we had. Well, to be honest, it was the only bloody lead we had.

We had no choice but to roll with it.

"Okay, listen up," I said all eyes turning towards me.  I felt sick and tired after everything that had happened and I wasn't sure my nerves could take much more "Right now, we have to lay low. We can't afford for The House Of The Apocalypse to get their hands on Callum. We'll head to Victoria's and keep him safe there until we figure out exactly how he got here. I think if we find out how he got here, then we'll be able to get him back."

"I agree," Callum said "None of us know if there are consequences to me being here. We need to be careful about how we proceed."

"Well, I have a few theories," Victoria said "I'll need to look at a few books from my library to narrow it down."

"So, it's settled then," Kian said "We go to Victoria's."

"Everyone form a circle, and hold hands," Victoria continued "I'll transport us."

Callum immediately took my left hand, while Kian held my right. Once everybody was ready, Victoria began to chant.

"Undi Homs Vwet Mar Gaerh... Undi Homs Vwet Mar Gaerh..."

"What's going on?" Callum asked.

"You'll see," I replied "Just hold on tight, and, you might want to hold your breath."

Callum frowned, but he didn't have much of a chance to prepare himself as the world around us spun into darkness.
