Chapter Sixteen
Everyone stares at me. They want to know just who these two men are and what their beef with me is. To be honest, I don't even know. But I explain who they are to them. I tell them all that the two introduced themselves in the library as Morden and Devdan and that they too enjoyed Patterson's books.
"Just like I thought at the time when I responded to the book note, they were harmless. But they aren't. They aren't." I throw my hands up to my face and cover my eyes. "I'm scared. They wouldn't kill Hakkie, would they?"
I glance around the room. Sangyeon closes his eyes, trying to wrap his head around the threat. Eric is taken into the comforting arms of Younghoon and New. Hyunjae looks stunned. Juyeon looks confused (but, when does he not look confused?). Jacob and Kevin are conversing with one another. Sunwoo and Q are flicking their eyes from Seungkwan to Jinho to Jongho to Shinwon and then to me.
"I don't think so. But I don't think that they know that you know who they are, that can benefit you and Hak," Seungkwan says.
"That's true," Hyunjae states.
"So, what should we do then?" Jongho inquires. "Sit around and talk?"
I face him. Then I shoot a glance at Shinwon. I feel bad for what I'm about to suggest, but it's the only idea my brain can muster up. "Perhaps, we give them what they want. If Shinwon's next on their list to target, we dangle him out there. One of them will bite and then we can act."
Shinwon looks at me, blinking.
"Of course, if you don't want to, we can always think of something else instead," I quickly say.
Shinwon shakes his head. "No, I agree with you. Make them continue to think that you don't know and then spring the trap on them."
"So, how do you propose we do this then?" Younghoon asks.
I look around the room again.
