Hand me downs
Dipper, Stan and Mabel sat in the living room together while they watched tv after dinner. Stan kept his ears open for his brother and the little side kick, but somehow no one has seen them since breakfast. Mabel was more worried that they got eaten in the woods.
They heard the doorbell ring and dipper went to answer as he was closest to the door while the other two family members were to sucked into the show to notice.
"Hey dipper," Wendy waved as he opened the door to her.
"Wendy? What are you doing here?" Dippers cheeks flushed with surprise seeing her.
"Is mabel and-" "it's make over time?!" Mabel came running to Wendy, shoving dipper out of the way.
"Brought all that I thought could be useful," Wendy held up a fully plastic garbage bag. Mabel took it and dragged Wendy upstairs.
"Wait don't we need the little dude?" Wendy asked as she went upstairs with Mabel.
"Wait this isn't for you?" Mabel asked confused and looked in the bag seeing a bunch of boy clothes.
"Nope it's for Leo," Wendy held up her little brothers old shirt.
"Uhhh what?" Dipper and Mabel stood next to each other.
"Where is he?" She asked curiously.
"The pipsqueak is down in the basement, good luck getting to him," Stan called but the vending machine door opened and the little blonde boy walked out and closed it behind him.
"Mr Stanley where's-" "up the stairs Wendy is looking for you," Stan cut him off and jabbed his thumb to the side.
"It's a make over for Leo?!" Mabel squealed more excited as she ran down the stairs to get him.
"Come on this is going to be so fun!" She grabbed his hand and yanked him up the stairs, he almost tripped multiple times.
"Ok ok ow," Leo pulled his hand back as Wendy waved at him while dipper was surprised by his presence.
"I brought my brothers clothes for ya man, take whatever you like," Wendy opened the bag and dumped everything out.
Leo didn't say anything, overwhelmed by it all.
"Well what about these cool camo shorts? You can blend in the trees," Mabel held up a pair of shorts and Leo made a face not liking them.
"Then what do you like?" She tilted her head to the side.
Leo stood there awkwardly with his arms crossed and eyes down, shrugging, not saying a word. Dipper rolled his eyes at the kid that was only a year younger than him.
"Hey.. why don't you just try some of these shirts on and if you like any of them you put them in a pile and if you don't like them put it back in the bag ok?" Wendy smiled gently seeing him tapping his foot anxiously.
"I... like the hat," Leo didn't look at them but pointed to the beige bucket hat.
"It's yours," Wendy started the pile for him.
"What about this I heart my time at summer camp tee?" Mabel held up a neon goofy tee shirt.
Leo smiled but shook his head.
"There's a cool blue zip up," she offered.
"I like it," Leo sat with the girls by the pile of clothes.
"Yes! Make over begin," Mabel set it with the hat.
The kids sat upstairs outside the twins room as they went through the clothes all together and dipper even helped, they all helped Leo how to style some of the summer clothes and winter clothes when they figured out he didn't know how.
"Leo? Are you upstairs?" It was ford.
"Yea I'm upstairs!" Leo called back and they all heard the older man's creaking up the stairs and he peaked over.
"Look at this cool hat old man," Leo put the bucket hat on with a bright smile.
"Looks pretty cool kiddo, but you've been up here for a half hour, it's getting late," ford leaned on the railing.
"Can I stay up another half hour please? We're almost done," Leo showed him the little pile of clothes that was left.
"Fifteen," he sighed shaking his head.
"Thanks," the boy gasped smiling. Ford grinned a little seeing how his son was already adjusting.
"Grunkle ford can I ask you questions about the journals?" Dipper asked before he left.
"I can't right now dipper, maybe another day," ford avoided awkwardly and left quickly, Stan fell asleep in front of the tv downstairs.
"What questions do you have about the journals?" Leo asked as he picked out another shirt that he wanted.
"Well I've been obsessed with the journal all summer I just want to know more from the author himself," dipper shrugged and Leo raised a brow.
"I grew up with ford, I'll warn you now, whatever your going to ask he won't want to talk about it for now, not till he's done with his work, that goes first," Leo shrugged folding the new clothes nicely to put in his pile.
"What about you?" Mabel asked kindly.
"Ok his work comes second, ford always makes sure I'm ok," Leo smiled back with pride.
"So he's like a dad to you then?" Wendy asked.
"Um no... he's not my dad technically," Leos smile dropped, he knew to keep it a secret but he wished he didn't have too.
"Where are your parents?" Dipper asked slowly but something told him he might already know.
"They've been gone for a long time," Leo mumbled awkwardly.
"Stanford saved me from some stuff a long time ago, I don't even remember my biological parents," he sighed closing his eyes.
"Do you think one of them had your eyes?" Mabel tried to be more positive.
"Ford told me neither of them did, it was a big surprise," he scoffed.
"I actually should go back down, thank you guys for helping me, thanks Wendy for the clothes," Leo made his escape and Wendy offered a soft smile.
"I'll help bring some of the clothes down," she huffed standing up and picked up the folded pants while Leo picked up the shirts.
"I'll come back for the rest tomorrow, have a good night guys," Wendy waved at her other friends.
"Oh bye Wendy," dipper was sad she was leaving already.
"See you tomorrow!" Mabel waved.
Leo didn't say anything anymore as he went to the secret vending machine and punched in the code.
"Hey kid, before I go," Wendy nudged him with her elbow before Leo escaped.
"It seems like you have some shit going on, if you need someone to listen come find me, my mom died when I was about your age or so, I know it's hard," she knelt down to his level and Leo looked down.
"My parents wanted me dead, I don't care about them," Leo didn't seem bothered by it.
"Fords been taking care of me since I was a year old, I really don't remember them," he said casually and took the folded pants from her as Wendy stood there in shock.
"Bye bye Wendy thank you for the clothes again," Leo smiled sweetly before leaving to go to the basement.
Wendy stood there with her jaw dropped and didn't know how to process the causal dark news. Why does she hang out with the strangest people..
"Maybe I should apply to colleges out of Oregon," she whispered rubbing her forehead.
