Downtown
Ford woke up finally after a good few hours of rest, not realizing how long he dozed off. He yawned and stretched his arms above his head, looking around for his boy.
"Leo?" He called seeing he wasn't in the lab.
Ford raised a brown and yawned again rubbing his head when he got up to look around. Calling the boys name again looking any sign where he could be. He went to the second floor and the first floor of the underground bunker but there was no sign of the child.
Suddenly a wave of panic flooded the older man's mind and he went up to the shack hoping Leo was close.
"Leo? Leo where are you?" Ford walked around the shack and got no reply.
There was know only fear spiking in his heart, ford ran up the stairs and knocked on the twins bedroom door where there was noise but it was a little Asian girl that answered the door.
"Grunkle ford? What are you doing up here?" Mabel looked confused as she and a larger brunette tween were laying on the floor with teen magazines and stickers surrounded them.
"Have you seen Leo?" Ford asked as Candy went back to her friends.
"Who's Leo?" Candy asked with a sly grin.
"He's uh he's their cousin, have you seen him?" Ford gulped a little letting himself slip up.
"Cousin? Oh uh Nope, maybe he's hanging with Wendy again?" Mabel offered rolling to lay on her stomach instead, thrown off by the cousin comment.
"Alright I'll check, let me know if you find him," Stanford pursed his lips and closed the door for them before racing downstairs but almost ran into his twin brother around the corner.
"Look where your going point Dexter," Stan grunted backing up.
"Stan were you with Wendy?" Ford asked quickly.
"Yea her and soos are closing up the gift shop, it's called a job," Stan crossed his arms rolling his eyes.
"Was Leo with them? Have you seen him today?" The scientist asked.
"Haven't seen your pipsqueak all day... is everything okay?" Stan looked at him confused seeing the anxiety rolling around in the other man's head.
"I fell asleep and now he's gone, dammit he should've woken me up if he was leaving the premises," ford pushed past him but Stan followed anyways.
"He's a kid let them venture around, mom and dad let us go who knows where all day long, we turned out alright," Stan helped him look for the boy anyways.
"Yea but there went evil entities that hunted us in Jersey, he's going to get hurt," ford went outside and saw nothing.
"Shit shit shit, Leo!" He yelled for the boy louder now.
"Whoa smart guy hold on, use your brain, if you were an eleven year old boy in a new town where would you want to go?" Stan asked standing on the stairs but noticed a shiney object under them from where the sun hit the cracks. He went around and pulled out some tech savvy blaster.
"That's Leo's, he must've came out to see if it worked, but he wouldn't leave it behind," ford picked up the gun when Stan handed it off.
"So where do dumb kids go?" Stan raised a brow.
They both thought for a moment.
"The arcade? A park? Shopping? Are there kid stuff in this town?" Ford asked.
"Let's start with the arcade, other stuff for him to shoot there," Stan motioned for ford to follow him. The men went to the older vehicle as Stan had his keys in his pocket and ford sat passenger.
"You still have this piece of junk car?" Ford was surprised seeing the old old car from many years ago.
"You think I'd let this hot ride go?" Stan smiled patting the car before driving off.
-
"Leo??" Ford called as the two old men walked around the streets of the town but Stan smacked his shoulder.
"Stop yelling your going to draw to much attention," Stan warned.
"What if he doesn't know I'm looking for him? How can we find him?" Ford asked glaring back.
"He'll show up, take it easy," the con artist rolled his eyes and fled grumbled but agreed to stop yelling.
They walked together in silence while ford was looking around frantically, stopping at every store to look inside.
"So you said this kid is hunted, is it something I should be cautious of? Or the twins should be cautious of?" Stan shoved his hands in his pockets.
"No, don't worry about it," ford scoffed.
"Stanford," he stopped him.
"I might not know the kid or like him very much but he's a kid, I care for his wellbeing, I care if he's safe," Stanley told him quietly and ford sighed shaking his head.
"It's just... complicated, he's special," ford started slow.
"Are you using him for something? Ford he's a kid so if he's just a pawn for some shit-" "I'm not using him, but there's monsters out there that would,"
"Like actual demon monsters,"
Stan watched his brother for a moment seeing if he was lying at all but let out a long groan.
"Of course your babysitting project would be wanted by monsters," Stan huffed and heard children laughing. They both looked but it was just a group of teenagers, no Leo.
"Babysitting project?" Ford caught the insult.
"You don't understand how hard being responsible for kids that age, I don't know how long you've been watching him for but teen years would not be to fun, they like to rebel," Stan shrugged and kept walking.
Ford closed his eyes and inhaled a deep breath collecting himself. Babysitting? Babysitting! His heart raced already and the annoyance made him walk faster.
Stanford heard finally a familiar laugh from around the corner and took off in a sprint. No no no it can't be because-
He spun around the corner and saw dipper with Leo, they were loudly cackling while walking on the sidewalk with ice cream cones.
"Leon Filbrick!" Ford yelled and spooked the children.
"Dad?" Leo was surprised hearing his full name.
"Where the hell have you been?! I thought something terrible happened to you!" Ford knelt in front of him and checked the boys eyes with a flashlight.
"Are you hurt? I've been looking for you," ford checked for any injuries.
"I-I've been with dipper," Leo was startled now as he allowed the eye check.
"We wanted to hang out grunkle ford, but it was my idea to come to town," dipper took the fall as Stan followed them finally.
"Did you take the golf cart to get out here?" Stan asked taking his nephews side.
"Yea, but I brought my knife, I'm not stupid," Leo showed his switch blade he kept folded in his pocket.
Ford stood shaking his head and took a deep breath.
"We are going to have a talk young man," Stanford told him sternly but the boy didn't look nervous for the trouble he could be in.
"We only left an hour ago, I'm okay, we were going back before dinner," Leo crossed his arms and adjusted his hat.
"This is serious Leo," fords eye brow twitched.
"It's not," he scoffed.
"Leon,"
"I didn't do anything wrong!" Leo cried out defensive.
"Said I could be a normal earth kid and I can't even do normal earth kid things," he pouted frustrated.
"Take it easy on the kid, he was with dipper, he's the weirdly most responsible person he could've been with," Stanley set his hand on dippers shoulder.
"Let's go home, this conversation isn't over," Stanford tsked looking down at the kids.
Leo didn't say anything but as soon as ford turned back to go to the car, the eleven year old flipped him off behind his back.
"Did you call him dad?" Dipper whispered when they went back to the golf cart.
"No, don't talk about it," Leo huffed pulling his bucket hat over his eyes and pouted in the passenger seat.
