Chapter 2
Rosie lazily opened her eyes. She had a good rest. Sitting up and stretching her arms and wings, Rosie regained her happy bounce.
In her past, she would hate being a bird. Her wings were heavy and uncomfortable, and they were hard to hide. She thought she didn't deserve to be cursed, but she still would be nice to everyone. But more recently, Rosie has come to terms with being a bird. It somewhat fit her. Birds were happy and sometimes loud, not to mention they are very compassionate. She also learned more about her being a bird, and their weight gets forgotten once you've been carrying them for so long. It wasn't that bad.
But, she still didn't know if others would feel the same way.
That's why she would get ready to go back to the ALiP house with her jacket secure around her waist. Rosie when nowhere without it. People may not have a positive outlook on her being a bird, just like she did at first.
After Rosie had packed a little purse, she set out. She would fly a few blocks away, then walk. This time, she would fly as a bird. She morphed into her bird form and held her purse in her beak. The bird flew over the skies until she found where she wanted to go. She then would get close enough to the ground, throw her bag into the air, morph back to a human, and catch the purse. A fun trick she learned to do. If she was going to be a bird for the rest of her life, might as well be a cool one.
Rosie tucked in her wings and put on her jacket. She walked for a few minutes, humming a happy tune until she made it to the door. But, waiting for her, was Comet.
"Hey Comet!" Rosie chirped happily to her friend. But, Comet seemed less excited.
"Hey Rosie..." he said, a bit uneasy.
Rosie cocked her head in confusion, wondering what was bothering her friend.
"I saw you leave yesterday, Rosie." Comet slowly confessed.
Rosie froze. She couldn't believe her ears. She was certain she checked if someone was watching. Maybe she didn't check hard enough. What does Comet think now? I mean, what would anyone think if they found out their friend was a bird?
Rosie's jumble of anxious thoughts were interrupted by Comet placing a hand on her shoulder comfortingly.
"Hey, it's okay. I think it's cool that you have wings." Comet said with a smile.
"Really?" Rosie asked. She never really thought that someone could find her wings cool. She always saw them as a burden or something.
Comet smiled wider, awe filling his eyes. "Yeah! They were pretty, and it must be so fun to fly!"
Rosie laughed. It felt nice to be more open about this. But, this still didn't prove much. Comet may find her being a bird cool, but others still might have other opinions.
"I'll tell ya what Comet." Rosie said, quieting her voice a bit. "I can show you how fun flying is, but you have to promise to keep it a secret."
Comet immediately responded with an ecstatic yes to the idea of flying. Rosie liked how enthusiastic he was about this. So, she led her friend a bit away from the ALiP house. When they were far enough away, Rosie took off her jacket and spread out her pastel pink wings.
"wOAH!" Comet exclaimed. Apparently they were even cooler to see for a second time.
"Come on!" Rosie said while crouching.
Comet nodded and climbed onto her back, holding on tight. Rosie needed to stand there for a bit to get used to having something in her back, but she soon pushed off the ground and into the sky, flapping her wings hard to get high enough so she could glide. Comet made awestruck exclamations the entire time.
It was fun, that Rosie couldn't deny. But she could never be sure everyone else would take it as good as Comet had.
