My Immortal
{Warning: contains self harm and some graphic and sad stuff.}
I'm so tired of being here
Suppressed by all my childish fears
Maka sat on her bed letting the tears flow. Soul had been on another date, this time with a girl he insisted he loved. Maka's heart knew he wasn't really in love, it never was love.
"Maybe it'd be better if i was dead." Maka said out loud. By now everyone had noticed that Maka was depressed. Her hair was never tamed and she defiantly had bags under her eyes. Maka's eyes were sparkling with tears, fresh. She stayed in her room all the time and would barely eat. Soul is probably the only one who hasn't noticed. "I mean, the one I actually care about," she choked on a sob, "doesn't seem to care."
And if you have to leave
I wish that you would just leave
"Soul!" Maka bounced out of her room, leaving all the sadness behind her. "You're home!" She exclaimed. The emerald eyed miester happiness jerked in her stomach as Soul stumbled into the living room, bottle in hand. Hie aroma let a disgusting smell reeked of alcohol and his body swayed to the side.
"You know," Soul slurred, "I think I'm gonna marry er." Maka watched as her partner stumbled around the room, her heart shattered. Why? That was the real question. She let a tear escape before wiping the useless tear be forgotten.
"Soul, you can't get married-"
"Quiet!" Soul screamed. Maka stepped back, reaching out to him was no good in this state. Soul stumbled to the couch and flopped his squirming body down. Her eyes rested on the bloody eyed weapon who looked out the window, a distant look that reflected the moonlight. Maka played with her hands before slipping into the kitchen. She opened the refrigerator door and walked back to her partner. Soul always complained about being hungry when he was sober, so if he ate now he won't be hungry later. Soul's logic was different however. He believed that if he ate now he'll throw it up later. Maka let her hand fall so the salad was in front of his face. His ruby eyes scanned the croutons and veggies before smacking the appetizer to the floor. Salad pieces went all over the carpet and the plastic container made a crunching sound.
"I'm no vegetarian you know!" Soul guzzled the drink again before getting up. Maka had had enough of this. She stepped in front of Soul, arms crossed, and starred him down. His clothes stunk of cheap perfume, probably from a stripper, and his hair ruffled to the side, caressed by some slut. Maka hated to see him like this but if he was going to keep being an asshole she had to stop him. This has been going on for years, ever since he became a death scythe.
"That was rude, Soul Evans. I worked hard on-" Soul brought his hand to make contact with Maka's face. Her cheek grew red as the slap came across her face. Maka brought a hand to her face to feel it begin to swell. Soul gave her a cold glare before turning to the kitchen to find something not "vegetarian" Maka steamed as she realized her own partner hit her, her weapon hit her. The miester was in charge so what makes Soul think he can hit his miester, or even a girl. Maka stormed into the kitchen, a huge tic mark above her forehead.
"I've had enough of this!" Her yelling got Soul's attention, "You come home almost every night now, drunk off your ass. You bring home random girls when you think its love. Worst of all you expect me to clean up after you! Well i'm done." Maka let out a puff of air, her feelings finally heard. She felt a lump form in her stomach when Soul seemed to take in the situation for the first time since he got home. He let a look of sadness dwell in the air before replacing it with anger. His angry side always scared Maka, he would never hurt Maka but when he was in his angry mode anything can happen. He even hit her a few minutes ago, and for what? A salad, who knows what he could do for her yelling at him. Maka's bravely started to unravel when he took a step closer. She braced herself for another slap. He twitched when he realized she was scared.
"Fine! I'll leave then!" Soul hollered at Maka before entering his room to begin packing only his essentials. "I'm a death scythe, I don't need you anymore." Maka was frozen on the tiled floor of her kitchen. He couldn't be leaving. This was his home for so long, they've been partners for so long. This was the only place Soul felt he was wanted, Soul had explained to her many times he'd never leave. He said it was his worst nightmare to leave his only miester alone. Maka watched as he gripped the golden knob stitched to the door. That door separated their comfy apartment to the harsh world full of kishins and problems. Soul wouldn't leave her, he wouldn't. Maka teared up as he glanced back at her.
"Fine?" He sort of asked, not sure Maka really wanted this. Soul could feel the liquor inside him telling him to leave but he wouldn't leave without confirmation. The burning liquor burned the metal causing his hand to twitch against the metal.
"Fine." That was all that was answered after Soul turned his heel and headed for the exit. When the door closed the neighbors could defiantly hear Maka's sobs. She fell to her knees and hugged her chest, lurching herself forward. Maka heard the footsteps of Soul, leaving her behind, finding a better home.
'Cause your presence still lingers here
And it won't leave me alone
Its been about a month since Soul left. His stuff is getting packed by Kid and Black*Star because Soul was to embarrassed to come by himself. Since he left all Maka did was sit in her room and stare at the ceiling. She only ate when Tsubaki was around who would occasionally bring her Chinese food. Maka wandered into Soul's old room, memories flooded into her mind as she inhaled. She wouldn't lie to herself anymore, she missed him. As she continued around the room she looked in some of the boxes. A sock, dipped in red die laid on the top of one box. Maka giggled to herself as she examined it. The sock was smaller then her's now, to small for Soul now.
"So Maka, who is going to be your date?" Liz purred, her eyebrow's wiggling.
"I'm not really sure. I'm pretty sure no one will ask me." Liz rolled her eyes as she glanced at the ivory haired weapon watching them.
"Whatever."
Later that night Soul waltzed into Maka's room all happy. Maka looked up from her book and raised an eyebrow. He gestured for her to follow him. The miester rolled her eyes and wedged a bookmark in her book.
"What is it-" She stood, mouth agape, as she watched Soul stand in front of a sign saying "Will you go to the dance with me, Maka?" Soul smirked as Maka blushed a deep red. When she nodded her head, a little to fast, Soul jumped up causing his foot to end up in the red paint bucket.
"That sure was funny." She laughed a little longer to herself. After that night they were pretty close, always hanging around each other. His hand always laced between her fingers. Maka glanced at another object sitting in the corner, a beer bottle. Maka remembered the first time he came home drunk. That was when Maka knew he didn't want her anymore.
"Oh, hey, Soul." Maka looked up from her book for a second then returned. She hadn't noticed his drunken aroma. Soul grunted and trudged past her, dropping the bottle causing it to shatter. "Soul?" Maka called after him, shocked. Soul grumbled some curses and went to pick up the brocken glass, successfully cutting his finger. The weapon didn't seem to notice because he contuined to pick up the shards.
"Soul?" Maka put a bookmark in her book and got up. "Your bleeding?! Hold on i'll get-"
"No! Your not my mother." Soul spat. Maka sighed and thought he was just being stubborn.
"Stay right here." Maka tried to escape to the bathroom but got blocked by Soul. "Soul?" Soul grabbed Maka's arm and dragged her away from the door. He pushed her on the couch and told her to stay, like a dog. She obligated but fidgeted slightly at his new attitude. The rest of the night Soul would yell at Maka if she got up from the couch. Maka didn't question, she expected him to have news but eventually Soul went to bed and left a confused Maka on the couch.
"That was a weird night..." Maka paced around the room until she had gone through everything of Soul's. He had gone, but he was still here...
These wounds won't seem to heal
This pain is just too real
There's just too much that time cannot erase
Maka sat on her bed, alone. She had done it, and felt no regret about it. She had dragged the blade across the proper surface. Her screams would echo through the empty hall. Black*Star picked up the last box that morning. So if all his stuff is gone, why isn't he? Maka constantly thought about Soul, she had loved him and he loved her, so what happened? She couldn't keep going like this...She let the knife fall off her bed, making a red stain on the floor. She in-wrapped her body so her knees were clutched to her chest.
"Why?" She cried to herself. "Why did this happen?" She chocked on a sob. They we're the best of friends, so why did this happen? He's gone, why cant she forget about him? He's moved on so why can't she? Maka's life darkened day by day when Soul seemed to be moving on and enjoying his new life.
When you cried I'd wipe away all of your tears
"Maka?" She clutched her knees tighter. "Maka, what's wrong?"
"N-nothing, Soul. Just Leave me alone."
"Maka..." Soul stepped in the doorway as she continued to cry on her bed. He got it, she had gone on a date with her father, must have ended horrible. Soul walked over to his petite miester and snugged into her. He wrapped his arms around her and listened to her sobs. When Soul pulled back he lifted her chin so their eyes would meet. He rubbed his finger across her face, taking tears with it.
When you'd scream I'd fight away all of your fears
Maka screamed as she woke up in a jolt. She had had the worst nightmare she could think of, Soul leaving her. She panted as she tried to calm herself down.
"It's alright. He's right next door." Soul came bursting through the door as she finished her sentence.
"Maka?! I heard you scream are you-" He stopped and starred at her. His miester had entangled herself in her blankets and sat there, still panting. "Bad dream?" She nodded her head before laying back down. Soul knew the drill. He climbed in with her and rested his head on hers as they cuddled.
"You've got nothing to fear now."
And I held your hand through all of these years
But you still have all of me
"You ready, Maka?" Said girl nodded as her partner grabbed her hand, reassuring her. "It'll be ok."
Maka screamed as she threw her phone against the wall. Tsubaki had texted her about another guy wanting to be her partner. Ever since Soul left she she got calls about weapons who wanted her as their miester. Maka declined all of them, all she wanted was Soul.
You used to captivate me by your resonating light
Now I'm bound by the life you left behind
"Let's go, Soul Resonance!"
Those were the words that haunted Maka. She remembered how they would shout those unforgettable words, a flash of light would appear, and they would defeat every problem, together. She still couldn't accept Soul was gone.
"Soul, time to-" She stopped in her tracks as she closed the empty room. "Oh, right..." She walked away, making breakfast for one.
Your face it haunts my once pleasant dreams
Your voice it chased away all the sanity in me
Maka laid on the grass as she breathes in. It was a beautiful day. She turned to see Soul, sitting next to her. She scooted over to him and rested her head on his lap. He smiled down at her and rubbed her head.
"Never leave me ok?"
"Never." He kissed her forehead letting his voice echo in her head. Soul's puffy hair covered haft his face and his red eyes searched Maka's. He looked peaceful probably the only time she'll see it.
Maka woke with a start. She clutched her shirt, right over her heart. She breathed in and out, her breathes rasping. Maka's eyes looked around the room, hearing no snores next door. "He's still gone."
I've tried so hard to tell myself that you're gone
But though you're still with me
Maka sat on the couch, resting against Tsubaki as she told her everything. Maka had realized it was about time she told someone how she felt, but she still felt sick. Why did she have a sickening feeling when she confessed? They say if you talk about it you'll fell better, not in Maka's case.
"Maka-chan? Are you okay?" Maka nodded slightly, letting her bangs hide her eyes.
"He's gone Tsubaki..." Her cries were muffled against Tsubaki shoulder. About a month after Soul left their apartment his father called and told him he should come back and preform like his older brother. Maka guessed he decided to go...
"How can I still like someone I know will never come back..?"
"I don't know Maka-chan..." Tsubaki continued to rub Maka's back as her friend let out all the tears.
I've been alone all along
Maka sat on the roof, alone. She thought of Soul that night, her laughs echoed into the night. Maka was really crazy, wasn't she? She always thought of Soul so why would it be any different tonight?Maka then realized something, she never really had her partner. Sure, he shook her hand, and they fought, and defeated every problem, but were they really partners? He protected her, because he had to. He stayed with her, because he had to. Maka also thought about the first time he was drunk. By then, I think Soul realized he didn't need Maka and would just throw his life away, drinking and partying. Maka's been alone this whole time, fighting her own battle. She stepped towards the edge. Is it worth it? Will this solve anything? "Soul..." She breathed. He never did like her, did he? Those hurtful thoughts are what caused Maka to finally make up her mind. Her mind was never wrong, she was the smartest student at DWMA. Why would her mind give up on her now? The drugs and blades hadn't changed anything, she was still Maka.
Maka felt the wind past her. Her hair whipped as the wind rushed in her ears, her blood pumped as she felt the sensation. After it was over, she asked herself, "Was this the right choice?"

Soul rushed over to the hospital. He was such an idiot! He left to visit his father, he didn't want to hear it but he decided that would clear his mind of Maka. He thought about her constantly. The weapon had even thoguht about returning to his miester, apologizing and promising never to drink again. He guessed he was to late. He then left early after he heard the rumors, it mainly came from Tsubaki.
"Soul! It's Maka-chan. She's in the hospital." The line was cut as Soul rushed out of the house.
He speeded down Death City's streets as he rode his motorcycle. The motorcycle purred and grunted like normal but something was different. Her arms wrapped around his waist will always be remembered. Nothing else mattered to him right now. Sure, he left but he regretted it. He regretted not being with her. He regretted not staying with her. He regretted coming home drunk. He regretted not telling her he loved her.
Soul reached the hospital and jumped off his bike. He ran inside and told the receptionist who he needed to see, right now. He reached Maka's room and peered in to see everyone. Tsubaki was crying on Black*Star's shoulder as Kid held Liz. Even Patti was quiet. Kid nodded his head and grabbed Soul's shoulder, leaving his girlfriend's side. He led him down the hall, making sure the group didn't hear Maka's condition. They all knew but didn't want to hear it.
"What the hell happened?" Soul breathed.
"Soul," He started but chocked a little, "Maka tried to commit suicide."
Soul sat beside Maka's hospital bed. Everyone had already gone home but the hospital let Soul stay for another hour. The hospital was already closed so it was silent other than occasional coughs heard from other patients.
"I'm sorry, Maka. I should have been there for you. I should have-"
"Soul..." Her lips parted as she spoke. She didn't open her eyes but she gripped his hand tighter. Maka's locks shifted as she turned towards his voice.
"Maka? Oh my- I'm so sorry."
"Soul, I-" Her cough interrupted. "I-I-" Soul felt her head go limp and her hand fell. Maka's skin felt cold and the heart monitor stopped beating. Her face darkened and motionless. Soul couldn't process what just happened. Doctors rushed in when all that was hear was a flat beat. The nurse tried to pull Soul away from the bed but he pushed and fought against her, screaming he needed her. The doctors tried to rejuvenate his miester but all that happened was her body jolting against the shocks of electricity.
That was when, Maka Albarn, scythe miester, died.
