Mark my words
"Mark my words" was what she spoke.
To that day my family was cursed.
You see the Albarn family were very very unfortunate.
It all began with my great great great grandfather.
An egotistical man.
Mr Albert Albarn was his name.
He thought he could have it all.
All the money.
All the fame.
And all the women.
And he did.
Until he didn't.
A night that changed our family's fate. You see Albert had many parties.
His mansion filled with people drinking wine and dancing and betting on nonsense.
The woman stood on a balcony.
Long white hair. Glowing red eyes.
And Albert wanted her.
Badly.
He spent the night trying to get her, well really get her in his bed.
Of course the poor woman had enough and left the entire party.
But overtime they met again by chance.
The witch never believed she could fall in love.
And to a scum no less.
But she had.
She believed his promise that he would change. Only to come to the heartbreak he broke it. By cheating with another.
So in return she set a cursed.
"Mark my words every next generation of your family will live an unhappy life like the one you will and this spell can only be broken if they learn how to really love"
Those were the words she last ever spoke to any Albarn.
Alfred never took it seriously. Not even when his mother died the next day.
And his father the next.
Then his wife left him with a baby boy to raise on his own.
Even when he had an accident and could never walk again.
But maybe he did. Since he recorded every unfortunate thing that has happened to him.
And every generation has their own journals as well.
I've read every one except my fathers.
He says I can read it when he's dead. Although I already know one.
When my mother left him.
Now it's my turn.
I'm Maka Albarn.
I've been recording a journal as well. I'm 52 pages in. It includes over 200 unfortunate things.
I sighed and closed my journal. The breeze was nice.
Right now I was under a cherry blossom tree. Skipping lunch as usual. I'm not the foodie type.
About now though I could go for a book. I walked inside the huge academy I attended and headed to the library.
My favorite place.
Today I'm feeling like a good fantasy book.
I greeted the librarian and headed to the fantasy section.
Once there I realized I couldn't even reach that high up the shelf.
I reached with no luck.
Luck psh that's right I don't have that.
"Aww Maka you still can't reach it" I turned to meet red eyes.
Soul Evans.
The guy who hasn't made my life any better dating all the way back from elementary school.
I have many entries of him in my journal of unfortunate occurrences.
"I can't control how much I grow" I muttered still trying to reach the book. The faster I did the faster I could get out of this situation.
Soul tsk'd and grabbed the book before I could.
"Aw this is what you want" he flaunted the book at me and I glared.
I tried snatching it but he raised above me to where I couldn't reach.
"Soul just give me the damn book!" I groaned now grabbing onto his arm trying to pull it down.
"Why don't you ask nicely then" he teased.
"Please!" I yelled.
He threw it across the room alarming the Liberian who kicked us out.
"Look what you did soul now I can't study!" I yelled at him.
I chased him outside of the school and now that I had calmed down I walked behind him still yelling at him.
"Why are you still following me anyways I could care less about your ranting" he said annoyed never looking back at me.
Soul just continued walking away from the school but I continued.
"You owe me Evans if I had it my way I- Ah!" I yelped as I didn't watch my steps and fell over.
It was my fault for walking down the stairs like a maniac. I always let my anger get the best of me.
I fell down a couple of steps but then I was stopped.
"Annoying girl tripping over yourself" he muttered as he picked me up.
I stood straight but winced as I felt a sharp pain on my knee. I looked down at it to see it was scraped.
I haven't had a cut like that since I was little.
The pain was new yet familiar.
Soul noticed it and put my hand over my shoulder.
"Crap here hold on" he said as he held onto me. Soul walked me down the long steps of the school to the parking lot.
He led me to his motorcycle and I felt confused.
Why was he helping me?
He was being weird.
Soul stood there thinking of what to do before sighing.
"Maka I'll take you to my house and we can fix you up" he said scratching the back of his head.
He helped me onto his motorcycle before getting on himself.
"Hold on tight" he said before he sped off.
After getting to his house I was surprised. He didn't live in just a house.
More like a mansion!
He helped me in and took me to the bathroom. Soul rubbed alcohol on my wound which stung and I voiced that.
"Ow soul!" I whined.
"Quiet I'm trying to help" he said sincerely.
It was weird for him to be doing this.
"Why are you helping me" I questioned.
He looked away from my wound and looked me straight in the eyes. His blood red eyes looked deep into mine.
I found myself blushing. It was the first time we looked eye to eye.
And he had this look in it I've never seen before.
Sincerity determination.
"Just don't question this" he said getting back to my wound.
He finished up bandaging it and he stood up.
"Alright that should do it" I looked down at my bandage and wondered what would happen now.
We stayed in the awkward silence for a moment before I shrieked.
There was a loud thunder that had scared me.
I jumped into his arms hiding myself. It was as if my body acted on its own. Why did I find security in him though?
"Just a little longer" I said shutting my eyes and holding him tighter.
To my surprise he didn't make fun of me.
Soul patted my head as if he understood.
We walked out of the bathroom and into the hall. He had an elegant house.
White carpet large staircase grand windows.
They were covered in water from the rain.
"Looks like you should stay until the rain calms down do your parents mind?" He asked.
"No" I said simply. My dad was always gone out to clubs and girls houses. He only was around to check on me once a month.
"What about yours?" I asked. Soul just smiled. A sad smile.
"They're overseas they'll never know" he said.
This big house. Suddenly I realized how quiet and lonely it seemed.
He showed me around but one thing in particular caught my eye.
In the hall there was a big painting. It was of a woman with white hair like souls.
"Who's this?" I asked.
Soul turned to look at what I was referring to before answering.
"Oh that's my great great great grandmother my whole family looks up to her for being one of the few witches in the world" he said.
My eyes widened.
"Why you ask?" He gave me a confused look.
I shook the thought out of my head.
Soul couldn't be.
Connected to all my problems? No way.
"Nothing just curious is all" I laughed awkwardly and he gave me a look before shrugging.
Soon night rolled in and the storm hasn't gotten better.
"Guess your staying" he said.
We were in the living room and sitting on the couch. Talking to him was so weird. A normal conversation and we weren't even fighting.
"There's a guest room next to my room I'll take you" he said.
I followed him upstairs and noticed a black piano. Did he play?
Soul seemed so mysterious now.
We got to a door and before he walked away he said one last thing.
"Oh and if you need anything my rooms right next door" he said walking away.
But once again to my 'luck' a loud thunder was heard.
I squealed and jumped on souls back.
"I don't want to be alone!" I yelled.
Soul balanced himself before falling from me jumping onto his back.
"You really are Pesky" he groaned.
Soul carried me into his room and sat me on his bed.
His room was messy. He had a big tv and computer. But plates were stacked on each other and cups.
Bag of chips as well.
Did he spend all his time here?
Suddenly the lights went out.
"The powers out" he said. The rain kept pouring drowning out the silence.
I felt the bed sink down and I knew he had sat down. It started to sink in.
Soul and I would be sleeping together!
Good thing the lights went out. Or else he would have seen my loud blush. Suddenly I heard a noise.
It was familiar. To when I would be changing at home and throw my shirt to the floor.
Was he shirtless!?
"Are you going to lie down?" He asked.
I tensed.
"U-Um.. Y-Yeah of course!" I squeaked out. I laid next to him and I was so close. His warmth was just an inch away.
"Why are you being all nervous?" He asked.
I looked away embarrassed when souls face was suddenly right next to mine.
His hot breath making me feel even more flustered.
"You don't have some secret crush on me Maka" he teased. Even when he said Maka he whispered it in my ear very slowly.
I shoved his face away with my hand.
"O-Of course not I've just never slept with a boy in the same bed" I explained.
And suddenly the curtain moved letting the moonlight in.
There I saw soul. A huge smirk on his face. That look in his eyes.
He pulled me into his embrace. I blushed even harder if I could as my face laid on his bare chest.
"Heh mark my words I'll get you to like me"
Then I knew.
Mark my words.
The spell that always comes true.
