Under the Sea
This chapter took a bit longer because there is more than one story (Completely unrelated to each other) included here.
Anthromar- the name I'm giving souls species. It means 'water man'

"Maka, I know you think he's OK but he's a wild animal you can't trust him like you do. "
Maka rolled her eyes at her pink haired employee
"Kim, I swear it's fine he's just a small puppy dog looking for attention."
Maka granted she sat down to have heavy bucket full of cleaning supplies and other bucket filled with fish (salmon to be precise)
Kim let out a verbal huff and stomped after the girl,
"By attention do you mean dragging another employee down to the cool depth of his tank?!"
Maka winced slightly, that was technically her fault, Soul had felt threatened that 'another male was trying to capture the attention of his mate (I'm not his mate). Kim stopped at the door-not daring to go any further like most employees- and glared at maka,
" He nearly killed Hiro! Why can't Black*Star just do it?"
"Because Soul doesn't like Black*Star." And with that large metal door slam shut behind Maka and she walked down the long metal bridge that connected to the Anthromars tank.
It was 10:30, the aquarium had closed over an hour ago. The weather was getting chilly in early September, some of the animals would have to be moved soon...
"But not Soul."
Souls species come from Arctic regions... So he will naturally be an outdoor attraction year round.
"Hey there pigtails."
Maka huffed not really in the mood for the ever so needy Soul and his attractive accent.
" still wearing those on attractive cargo shorts I see? You should really wear the ladies shorts, they would really make your butt look good. Not that it doesn't look good all the time."
Her face glowed,
"Soul!" The men and women wore White polo shirts along with cargo shorts. The women however wore short cargoes and tucked their shirt in.
"At least we wear clothes."
Maka huffed and threw a salmon at his face, causing him to laugh. She watched in fascination as his long claws gripped the fish. Her eyes caught every detail of the sharp teeth poking out from under his great lips. He eat the fish slowly as if to savor every bite. Maka shook her head from most thoughts and continue to clean the side of the tank. (but she didn't miss the way his long tongue licked The webbing in between his fingers clean)
A splash of water I interrupted her thoughts.
"Arrrgg Soul!" Maka furiously rubbed the water off her cheek.
The anthromar laughed again, rolling on his back showing the world his scar.
Soul had been a rescue, found on the beach with his torso cut open from a rock. He had been really antisocial and absolutely despise the people who work there, but he had eventually opened up after Maka hit him with a pool skimmer and told him to stop being so grouchy.
"Soul if you don't stop getting the deck all wet someone's going to slip."
"Awww come on now love,"
His large gray tail switched back and forth pushing him towards Maka. She admired the way his backfin cut a path through the water. (He had the nerve to look offended when she told him that stereotype).
"Don't be like that...maybe I'll stop if you go get me some more of that delicious salmon."
Maka let out a groan well giving sold the evil eye,
"I left the bucket right there why don't you just tak-"
As if life wanted to play a cruel trick on her her boot slipped from under her and she fell into the depths of the tank.
Freezing.
The tank water froze her to the bone and seemed to pull farther and farther to the surface. She could've froze to death or drowned, if it hadn't been for two strong arms wrapping around her waist and yanking her up towards the light.
Maka broke the surface with a huge gasp.
"Breathe Maka, I got you."
Maka Took a glance up her Savior and was not surprised to see white hair. His skin and body was cold but warmer than the temperature he lived in. One of her arms was hooked around his neck and the other hand grabbed onto his fin.
"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry, are you ok?" Soul had placed her on the plastic deck she had been standing on, right next to the small latter that lead to the bridge.
"Y-yeah I'm f-fine." Maka shivered a little smiling slightly at the- now frazzled- sharkinoid.
Souls stare turned heated, causing Maka to realize how close they where. He held himself up on his elbows which were on either side of her thighs; his breath tickled her neck causing her swallow hard.
Soul grinned at her causing her cheeks to turn pink.
Leaning in he whispered,
"Did I ever tell you how much it turns me on when you're wet?"
---
This is supposed to be more like a fairy tale than in modern time)
"That song"
The anthromar eyes shot open.
"There it is finally"
Soul took off like a shot, traveling farther and farther north.
It was an alluring mating call that drove his instincts wild.
He had first heard it in the distance while his brother took him to visit the anthromars near the equator.
He had heard it, it swooned his soul to hear such beauty, sadly his brother quickly took him back towards Antarcticas coastline.
"I'm coming my love... You won't have to sing that longing song again."
Soul had left his brother behind to seek out love; he only hoped she would love him- anthromar and all- in return. He headed north west, towards the Bermuda Triangle.
"So my suspicions of her being a mermaid are correct."
He just broke the edge of the the triangle an hour ago, her singing stopped at 12:30 on the dot. Her beautiful voice only goes for half an hour.
"I found her sent! Just a bit further!"
Then, he found it:
The large pink clam that held his hearts desire.
Mermaid tradition states that once the the female becomes of age; she is locked away, only to be found by the one who finds her song the most beautiful. (He had heard the humans do something similar with towers)
Soul dug his tails in the mouth of her inprisonment, prying it open with a grunt.
She was small, smaller than he expected, her hair was pulled up into pigtails (something taboo). no it couldn't be... Her tail was not the normal plain silver or green...the fin was a bright red, signifying she was a royal.
To put it in simple words: she was not what he had expected.
"Then again..." He thought with a smirk as he pulled her out of the shell and into his arms,
"She's probably thinking the same thing."
Her large emerald eyes shining with happiness and curiosity told him he was right.
---
It's been a year since soul left.
Maka should be waking up soon.
"He's not going to make it."
The king of mermaids, spirit albarn, crossed his arms. The women beside him, kami albarn, lightly slapped his arm,
"Don't say that!"
She looked behind her at the seaweed that hid her pregnant daughter.
"Of course he'll make it! He's an Evans!"
The emperor of the anthromars, souls father, scanned the waters for his youngest son. Beside him, the empress and their oldest son nodded.
The family had not been to thrilled with their relationship, however they mended their ways before the new child was announced.
It was agreed that they would follow tradition to letter:
Once the female is one month pregnant, she will hibernate for a year. The male is then charged finding a safe spot to hide the female, while covering her in his scent. After, the male must collect food, half from where the female was born, half from where the male was born.
Maka was born in the Caribbean, Soul was born in Antarctica. While tradition doesn't state for over protective parents...they could help themselves.
"He had a whole year, I want him to bring her the ocean!" Spirit growled.
"Now, my son would do that exact thing! If it was realistic..."
The rulers bickered once again.
"Excuse me." Wes stared wide eyed at the ocean behind them
"Father, excuse me."
No avail.
It was coming closer
"Please! Gentlemen!"
"You should teach your son a thing or two-"
"At least I have a son!"
"GENTLEMEN!" Wes shouted. The two rulers whipped around to glare,
"What?!"
"That!!" Wes pointed behind them.
There, in the horizon, was Soul.
"Oh my..." Their jaws hit the ground.
Soul carried a humans fisher net containing the worlds most colorful tropical fish from across the Caribbean. Mixed in was;
"Is that an arctic seal?!"
The large sea mammal stood out from the colorful fish.
He didn't even spare them a glance as he passed them the net and disappeared into the weeds.
The family smiled at each other as the net- containing live fish- was tied at the end.
Inside the new mother woke to see her lover kissing her swollen, glowing stomach.
She called him over to her and gave him a long kiss. He smelled of far away lands.
"Only a few more days." She whispered. She glanced down, her stomach was warm and had a dim yellow glow.
He grinned his shark teeth and picked her up, bring her and the baby out to meet the family.
