Chapter Ten

"I heard about Bill Carlton. Is it true? Is something going on with the lake?" Andrea asked as Sam, Dean, Jenny and Sheriff Devins walked into the office. Lucas was sitting in one of the chairs, rocking back and forth.

"Right now we don't know what the truth is. But I think it might be better if you and Lucas went on home." Devins told Andrea as she huffed, Jenny tilting her head at Lucas.

The boy looked up and started whining, gripping Jenny's arm as he shook. The girl looked at the four around her in a mild panic, kneeling down next to Lucas.

"Lucas? Hey, buddy, it's okay— You're okay." Andrea pulled Lucas away from Jenny, who stood up quickly. Lucas didn't stop staring at the woman as Andrea led him outside.

"The hell was that all about?" Jenny shook her head unknowingly at Dean's question.

"Okay, just so I'm clear, you see...something attack Bill's boat, sending Bill—who is a very good swimmer, by the way—into the drink, and you never see him again?" Dean glanced down at Jenny's arm, noticing the bandage peaking out from under her jacket, and her barely damp hair.

"Yeah. That about sums it up."

"And I'm supposed to believe this, even though I've already sonar-swept that entire lake? And what you're describing is impossible? And you're not really Wildlife Service?" Jenny and Dean's eyes widened in surprise. Well... shit. "Yeah, that's right. I checked. Departments never heard if you three."

"Uh... Sheriff see we can explain—" Jenny smiled nervously, clasping her hands together.

"Enough. Please. The only reason you're breathing free air is one of Bill's neighbors saw him steering out that boat just before you did..." Jake slowly turned to Jenny. "And saw you jump into the boat after him, then proceeded to flip it. And only you came up. So, we have a couple of options here. I can arrest you for impersonating government officials and hold you as material witnesses to Bill Carlton's disappearance. Or, we can chalk this all up to a bad day, you get into your car, you put this town in your rearview mirror, and you don't ever darken my doorstep again."

The four sat in silence before Sam cleared his throat. "Door number two sounds good."

✧*:・゚✧*:・゚✧

Night had fallen by now, Sam, Dean and Jenny were all in the Impala driving towards Milwaukee. Dean stopped at a red light, silence filling the car.

The light turned green, Dean didn't drive.

"Green." Sam and Jenny said in unison, Dean hummed. "The light is green." The said again, and Dean nodded, turning right.

"Dude... interstate is that way." Sam pointed left as Dean nodded.

"I know."

"Then why are you turning left?" His brother asked as Jenny leaned forward, her head between the two boys.

"Because it's not over." She interjected, Sam frowning.

"What? This job.. It's over." Dean shook his head in defiance, continuing to drive. "If Bill murdered Peter Sweeney and Peter's spirit got its revenge, case closed. The spirit should be at rest."

"And if it's not? More people could die... And Lucas— shit, that kid looked horrified." Jenny stared off as she recalled the look of pure terror in Lucas' eyes when he stared up at her, a land a shiver ran down her spine.

"And what if everything's fine?" Sam asked as Dean turned to look at his brother, then back at the road.

"Look, I didn't talk to the kid, but Jenny did. And I know that, if I were her... I wouldn't leave this town until I knew he was okay." Dean stated as Sam turned to Dean.

"Couldn't have said it better, Winchester." Jenny patted Dean's shoulder, leaning back into her seat as Sam continued to frown.

"Who are you and what have you done with my brother?" Sam asked. Dean glanced over at Sam and scoffed.

"Shut up."

✧*:・゚✧*:・゚✧

"Are you guys sure about this?" Sam asked as Dean pulled up to Andrea's house, the three getting out.

"I just want to make sure they're okay." Jenny stated as she walked up to the porch, knocking on the door.

Within seconds, a frantic and horrified Lucas answered the door, Jenny's worries immensely turning to the worse. "Lucas?!" The boy ran up the stairs, the three bolting after the boy. "Lucas!"

Water seeped out from underneath the bathroom door, Jenny wiggling at the handle. "Andrea?!" Jenny yelled, and Lucas began pounding on the door.

Sam moved Lucas and kicked the door down, the three going to run in to save Andrea but Lucas latched onto Jenny, who lifted him up and turned him away from the scene. Jenny watched as Sam and Dean struggled to pull Andrea out from the bathtub, her body being held under by an unnatural force... Most likely Peter.

Finally, Andrea was dragged out of the bathtub, coughing up water as Sam threw a towel over her naked body.

Jenny sighed in relief as she ran a hand through Lucas' hair, shutting her eyes as she let out an exhausted breath. "You guys are okay.. You're okay."

✧*:・゚✧*:・゚✧

The sun was starting to rise, Jenny's hand was over Andrea's as she tried to comfort the crying woman. "You aren't going crazy, Andrea. Just— Tell is what happened?"

Andrea shook her head, wiping away her tears. "I heard...I thought I heard...there was this voice.

"What did it say?" Sam asked, grabbing the tissues and handed them to the woman, who slowly took them.

"It said— it said 'come play with me'..." She started sobbing, shaking her head again. "What's happening?"

Sam and Jenny shared a saddened look before Dean walked over and opened a scrap book.

Explorer Troop 37.

"Do you recognize the kids in these pictures?" Dean asked Andrea as Jenny leaned to look at them, recognizing one of the boys as Peter and another as Bill.

"What? Um— um, no. I mean, except that's my dad right there." Andrea pointed to one of the boys. "He must have been about... twelve in these pictures." Sam, Dean and Jenny all shared the same look with one another

"Chris Barr's drowning. The connection wasn't to Bill Carlton. It must have been to the sheriff." Dean explained as Jenny stood up, pointing to the picture.

"Bill and the sheriff—they were both involved with Peter."

"What about Chris? My dad— what are you talking about?" Andrea asked, looking at the three in confusion. Jenny shook her head, pausing when she noticed Lucas staring out the window.

"Lucas?" She spoke quietly, following the boy as he started walking outside. Sam, Dean and Andrea following.

"Lucas, honey?" Andrea called out as Jenny looked back at the three, shrugging in confusion. Lucas suddenly stopped and looked back at Jenny, then at the ground.

"You and Lucas get back to the house and stay there, okay?" Dean ordered as Sam and Jenny went to grab shovels from the Impala.

The three started quickly digging where Lucas had stopped. After a few minutes, Sam slammed his shovel into something and clinked. He tapped it again, raising his arms out.

The three dropped their shovels and got down in their knees, digging up the red bicycle Jenny and seen Lucas drawing.

"Peter's bike..." Sam muttered, the trio freezing when they heard a shotgun cock.

"Who are you?" Sam, Dean and Jenny slowly turned around to see Jake aiming a shotgun at them. Sam dropped the bike as Dean slowly moved in front of Jenny, a steel look on his face as Jenny rolled her eyes, stepping out from behind him.

"Put the gun down, Jake." Jenny demanded as he shook his head, gesturing to the bike.

"How did you know that was there?"

"What happened?" Dean started as he shrugged his shoulders. "You and Bill killed Peter, drowned him in the lake and then buried the bike? You can't bury the truth, Jake. Nothing stays buried."

"I don't know what the hell you're talking about." Jake lied, his expression shifting.

"You and Bill killed Peter Sweeney thirty-five years ago. That's what the hell I'm talking about." Dean snapped, Jake's grip on the gun tightened.

"Dad!" Andrea called out. Jenny's eyes flickered back and forth between Jake and Andrea.

"And now you got one seriously vengeful spirit." Jenny called out as Jake scoffed at her.

"It's gonna take Andrea, Lucas, everyone you love. It's gonna drown them." Sam explained, though it didn't seem like Jake was listening. "And it's going to drag their bodies God knows where, so you can feel the same pain Peter's mom felt. And then, after that, it's going to take you, and it's not gonna stop until it does."

"Do you even hear yourselves? You're all insane." Jake spat, and Jenny shrugged.

"I've been called worse." Jenny faked a smile as Dean's eyes flickered over to her.

"I don't really give a rat's ass what you think of us. But if we're gonna bring down this spirit, we need to find the remains, salt them, and burn them into dust." He explained, standing up straighter as Jake glared at the three. "Now tell me you buried Peter somewhere. Tell me you didn't just let him go in the lake."

"Dad, is any of this true?" Andrea asked, her voice cracked

"No. Don't listen to them. They're liars and they're dangerous!"

"Something tried to drown me. Chris died on that lake. Dad, look at me!" Andrea ordered, Jake turned to his daughter. "Tell me... Tell me you didn't kill anyone?" Jake looked away from his daughter as she broke into tears. "Oh my god..."

"Billy and I were at the lake. Peter was the smallest one. We always bullied him, but this time, it got rough. We were holding his head under the water. We didn't mean to. But we held him under too long and he drowned. We let the body go, and it sank." Jenny shut her eyes in defeat, looking away. "Oh, Andrea, we were kids. We were so scared. It was a mistake. But, Andrea, to say that I have anything to do with these drownings, with Chris, because of some ghost? It's not rational."

"What's not rational is thinking that holding a kid underwater is funny. You should have known better at twelve!" Jenny snapped at Jake, who had tears in his eyes.

"All right, listen to me, all of you. We need to get you away from this lake, as far as we can, right now." Dean ordered as Andrea looked down at the lake and gasped. Jenny looked at where Andrea did, her eyes widening in fear.

"Lucas!" Andrea screamed, the two women breaking out into a sprint, the men following after in a hurry.

"Lucas get away from the water!" Jenny yelled, watching as Lucas suddenly fell into the water.

"Oh my god!" Andrea yelled in horror, starting to take off her jacket. Jenny did the same, bolting down the dock, though it was much faster this time than when she attempted to save Bill.

Sam and Dean and quickly caught up with Jenny, the three diving into the lake together. Jenny swam down as far as she could, looking around in the dark water in hopes to spot Lucas.

"Jenny!" The girl looked up as she heard Dean's muffled yell, then turned back down into the water.

Not until I have him. She thought to herself as she felt her lungs tightening with her lack of oxygen.

"Jake, no!" Jenny looked back up, but she was getting so far down she couldn't see.

She suddenly lurched back when a hand grabbed her, eyes widening as she saw Lucas pass out. She gripped the boy tightly, swimming up as quickly as she could, starting to see the world around her darken as her strokes became slower, her kicks weakening.

Once again, Jenny broke through the surface, knocked out. Yet this time, she was successful on saving someone.

Sam and Dean wadded over, the younger Winchester taking Lucas as Jenny started to sink back under the water, Dean grabbing her unconscious body.

"Jen? Jennifer?" Dean patted her face, shaking her gently. "Jenny come on."

Her eyes shot open and she coughed up water, gasping. Dean sighed in relief, Jenny looking around.

"Lucas— Where's Lu—"

"Sam took him. He's fine. But you need to stop diving after people and almost drowning yourself." Dean frowned as he helped her swim to shore. Jenny looked around again, noticing Andrea crying, and Jake was missing.

"Where's... Where Jake?" Dean gave Jenny a knowing glance, feeling her heart sink. "Oh... we'll um... I guess we don't uh— have to worry about Peter anymore..."

✧*:・゚✧*:・゚✧

Jenny tossed her duffel bag into the trunk of the Impala with Sam, Sam shutting the trunk and turned to Jenny.

"Look... you can't save everyone, Jenny." The girl nodded in understanding, pressing her lips together in a fine line.

"I know... Doesn't mean I can't try though, right?" She smiled softly as Sam did, turning his head as Andrea and Lucas popped up.

"Hey... Glad we caught you guys in time." Dean walked out of the motel, Andrea waving to him.

"Yeah we were just about to leave. What'd you got there, Lucas?" Jenny gestured to the plate of sandwiches Lucas held, a smile on his face.

"Lucas insisted on making the sandwiches himself." Andrea smiled, her son looked up at her.

"Can I give it to them now?" He asked as Andrea smiled again, nodding. Lucas walked over to Jenny, handing her the plate.

"Well, thank you, bud. I'm sure these are amazing." Jenny grinned as Lucas smiled softly.

"Come on, Lucas." Dean called out from the other side of the impala, Jenny stood up. "Let's load this into the car." Lucas and Jenny walked over to Dean, taking the sandwiches from the woman.

Dean knelt down next to Lucas. "All right, if you're gonna be talking now, this is a very important phrase, so I want you to repeat it one more time."

"Zeppelin rules!" Lucas cheered with a grin, Dean and Jenny laughing.

"That's right. Up high." The two boys high fives one another as Jenny smiled at them, looking over at Andrea.

Sam walked over as Jenny walked to Andrea, hoping to give her a final goodbye. Instead, it was a goodbye kiss, shocking both Sam and Dean as much as it had shocked Jenny.

"Thank you for saving my son." Jenny slowly looked over at the Winchester brother's, mouths agape in such surprise a raccoon could nest in them.

"Oh— um.., Uh—" Jenny laughed, her cheeks flushing red as she scratched the back of her neck. "Yeah— yeah Uh... Anytime." Jenny thinks for a minute before Andrea and Lucas walk away, a sly smirk on her face as she turned to Sam and Dean.

"That... was highly unexpected." Sam commented as Jenny shrugged, clicking her tongue.

"Guess I'm just that good." She chuckled with a grin, Dean's mouth still open in pure shock. "What do you have to say, Dean?"

The man shook his head. "I have... no words." Though he did.

He was jealous. And not at the fact that Jenny kissed Andrea.

He was jealous that Andrea kissed Jenny.
