"You don't own me. I'm not just one of your many toys."
"PLEASE!" I shouted into the dark night. It's been three days already and I've seen no one since those three guys left me in this darn hole. It's been three days without food or water, my ankle is throbbing, and I feel like I'm already dying. "Pl-please! My name is Sarah Swan.. I know people that are rich. If you get me out of this hole and off this island, they'll pay you whatever you want." Everything was silent except for the crickets that were chirping away into the night sky. "Please. I'm begging you."
"We don't want your money, girl." A light filled my eyes and I flinched back, my chapped lips started bleeding because I bit down onto it too roughly in shock.
"Please." I shakily stood up, wobbling on my swollen foot. "I'm - I'm hungry and - and thirsty." I covered my eyes a little with my left hand, my other hand holding onto the wall of the hole. I licked my dry lips, the taste of bittersweet iron filled my senses making me cough in disgust. "Just - Just give me something to eat and I'll leave you alone. Please." To my dismay, the guy walked away without even looking at me. "No," I whispered to myself, slumping down to the ground.
"Here." A piece of bread was then thrown at me. Greedily, I grabbed it, not even caring if it was poisoned or not, I was just really hungry. I gobbled it down way too fast in my opinion.
"Thank--" Before I could finish thinking the stranger, he was roughly grabbed and pinned to a nearby tree. I let out a loud squeak, standing up in shock.
"You gave the prisoner food?!" An angry, loud, booming voice yelled out. "You know the rules," The person spat, grabbing into his spear and raised it to the guys' shoulder. He then pushed, and the spear went into the man's shoulder. He bit his lip, grunting, not allowing himself to scream or yell in pain.
"I know," The guy breathed out in pain. Obvious stress in his rough voice. Even though his voice was rough, it was at a slightly higher octave than most other guys voices. And plus, it was a lot softer than any of the other guys that were around here.
"Then state them," The obviously older man ordered. "State the rules."
"Don't talk to the prisoners, Don't look at the prisoners, Don't feed the prisoners," The man recited, sounding like he's done this a million of times.
"Then why don't you follow those rules!?" The man angrily yelled, slamming the spear further into his shoulder. Still, he didn't let one single sound escape his lips which made me surprised.
"I-I don't know," He gasped out. He had his head tilted back, biting down on his bottom lip, trying to hold back the pain he was feeling.
"Since you don't know how to follow the rules, you're going into the pit," The 'leader' spat out and you could see the pure panic strike through the other guys face. He shook his head, stuttering out a response to only get punched in the face and dragged away, out of my sight.
"Hey," I spoke but it came out as a whisper. "Hey." I cleared my throat. "Hey!" I pulled myself up into a straighter position, gripping the dirt walls that surrounded me.
"What do you want, girl!?" The leader spat, staring down at me.
"What-what are you gonna do to him?" I questioned, my blue eyes staring into his soul-less black ones.
"Nothing that concerns you," He spoke and swiftly walked away from me.
I grasped the dirt wall, feeling determined. I am not gonna just sit here and slowly die. I am not gonna sit here and watch as day passes to night. And I'm certainly not gonna sit here and listen to them torture the only guy who was actually nice to me.
"Don't give up," I whispered to myself. I steadied myself and started bouncing up and down on my feet before I lunged myself upwards, grunting. I bit down on my lip, not caring about the blood gushing out of the cracks. I pulled myself out of the massive hole, sweat rolling down into my eyes and down my cheeks, dripping into the dirt below me.
Grunting, yells, metal hitting metal, and swooshing sounds filled my senses, making me come to the conclusion that people were fighting.
Quickly, I rolled onto my back, breathing in and out deeply. I then scrambled to my feet upon hearing voices getting closer to me. I ran towards where I heard that one guy - the one who gave me food - screaming in rage. What I found shocked me.
He was in a hole just like I was, but his was way deeper and he was chained to the ground, making sure he couldn't get out. He was wearing no shirt, showing off all the slashes he has on his stomach and back. My hand flung up to my mouth, stopping the gasp that wanted to escape.
I quickly slid down the dirt wall and landed just a few inches away from him. He looked up at me, eyes narrowed in suspicion. "I'm here to help you," I whispered out, my hands shakily making their way towards him. Instantly, he flinched back. "I'm not gonna hurt you," I told him, clasping my hands around his chained wrists. "I don't think I could even if I tried." I chuckled and I saw his lip turn upwards slightly. I took this moment of slight trust and unhooked his wrists from their chains.
"T-thank y-you," He stuttered out, staring into my eyes. I smiled lightly at him, slinging his arm over my shoulder. "L-lincoln." I stared at him in confusion. "My name is Lincoln."
"Well, Lincoln, my name is Sarah," I grunted, using my free hand to grip the dirt. He used his free hand as well, helping to get us both to the top. "I seriously didn't think this through," I grunted, holding up both of our weights together. "You could help a little more," I grunted out through clenched teeth. "You might be injured, but you weight like a thousand pounds."
"I-i'm trying," He grunted out, pushing me upwards a little. I gripped the top of the hole, pulling him up to my height. He then threw me up into the leveled ground. I rolled into my stomach, grabbed his hand with both of mine and pulled him up as well. I pulled him up to his feet and threw his arm over my shoulders.
"I've never seen someone so strong before." I whipped around, Lincoln grunting as I did so. My eyes widened as I saw a group of people dressed in black, holding swords. There was a man standing in the front, he was the one who spoke. He had an impressed look on his face. "What's your names?"
"S-Sarah," I stuttered out. "And-and this is Lincoln." I visibly gulped.
"Well, Sarah, I admire your strength." The man walked towards me. "I'm Ra's Al Ghul and you are now mine."
"I'm sorry, but if you take me, you take Lincoln as well. We're a packaged deal," I told them confidently. I then frowned at myself, confused on why I was suddenly acting like this. Why was I acting confident when I certainly wasn't. I shook my head at myself, staring into his eyes.
"I can work with that." He smirked.
I was making a deal with the devil without even knowing it.
