"And like a moon, she had a side of her so dark, that even the stars couldn't shine on it. She had a side of her so cold, that even the sun couldn't burn on it."

"YOU don't have to do this," Oliver begged us, his wrists tried together with rope. I looked over at the crashed plane, refusing to look at anyone. Self-hate swirled around in my gut.

"Ivo says we do," I told him, licking my bottom lip and tasting the blood of the busted lip Ivo gave me earlier. "Your friends are a danger to his men."

"Go. Quick and quiet," a man ordered and the other men obeyed, hastily running towards the plane, guns locked and loaded.

"Slade! Shado! Run!" Oliver shouted, catching the look Ivo gave me, I turned around and punched Oliver in the jaw as hard as I could.

Gunshots echoed. I turned my head to see the men firing at the plane, shooting anywhere and everywhere. I tried to control the horror on my face, but I guess I didn't succeed as much as I thought.

Ivo smirked at me, anger and lust swirling in his eyes. I swallowed harshly and stood tall, refusing to believe he was intimidating.

Once the firing ceased, one of Ivo's bitches walked up and glanced inside. "There's no one here."

"They must have moved on from their position," Ivo spoke, whipping out a detonator and handing it to one of his men. "Chargers are placed. Here's the detonator. Make sure they have no place to return to. Go." He turned to Oliver in anger. "And you. Now you're going to take us to the graves. Let's go. Get him up. Let's get clear."

Ivo's eyes pierced into mine, anger shimmering brightly. I gulped.

IVO ran towards one of the skeletons on the ground of the grave area. His hands began wandering along the skeleton, almost as if he was feeling it up. "Where is it?" He questioned in panic. I gave him a confused look. "Come on, where is it!?" He stopped and turned to Oliver. "The Hosen, where is it?"

"What?"

"The arrowhead," Ivo spoke as if it was obvious. He pointed to the skeleton. "Every report said it was with these bodies. You said you and your friends were here. Now, where is it?"

When Oliver didn't speak, Ivo gestured to him as he spoke to his men, "Take him outside. Make him show you where his friends are hiding." The man threw Oliver to the ground a few feet away, making me wince.

"Take us to them," demanded one of the men.

"I don't know where they are!" Oliver spoke through gritted teeth.

The man bent down and positioned his gun on top of Oliver's hand. "Tell me, or you lose your hand."

"Let us suggest another option." Startled, I whipped my head around to see a woman with a bow and arrows, and a heavily built man with a large gun aimed at the man who threatened Oliver. I sucked in a fearful breath. "You hand the kid over to us, and we don't kill you all."

"So you three obviously took the Hosen out of the cave," Ivo stated, anger swirling in his blue eyes. He gestured to Oliver. "Lift him up. Now I know he doesn't have it, which means one of you two does." He took a threatening step forward, his head tilted. "Give it to me, and we'll discuss an exchange."

"We don't know what you're talking about," spoke the woman I assume was Shado. "Give us Oliver, and we'll leave you alone to look for it."

One of the men rose his gun, making Slade shoot him in the leg. "Anybody else want to be stupid?"

"Hey." Ivo rose his hands in surrender, making me smirk. He was scared. Good. "Hey! Fine. Take 'em. Cut him loose." He looked to the man by Oliver.

Once his hands were free, Oliver punched the man in the face, quickly grabbed my hand and began dragging me with him.

"What are you doing!?" I yelled out in surprise. Gunshots echoed around us, some barely missing Oliver and I as we ran.

"We have to keep moving, they're following us!" Oliver shouted back.

An explosion went off behind us.

WHEN we came to a stop, I ripped my hand out of Oliver's and became face-to-face with him. "Why did you do that!?"

Because of him, I'm going to die with him and his new friends. I can't die. Not now, not ever. I have a little sister to get back home to.

"Because you stopped the captain from killing me," Oliver retorted, breathing heavily. He looked to Shado as she approached us. "Thank you for coming." He gestured to Slade. "Shado, he doesn't look too good."

"He's not," she told Oliver before looking me up and down. "Who's this?"

"It's complicated." Oliver shrugged her off. "That Hosen thing they're looking for is back on the plane."

"No, I've got it." Shado took the necklace out from under her shirt. "It has a Buddhist inscription on one side. It reminded me of my father."

"I'm pretty sure they aren't interested in Buddhism." We turned to Slade who limped towards us, his voice deep and husky.

"What's on the other side?"

"30-30-175-12."

"Okay, numbers, what..." Shado trailed off. "Coordinates."

"To what?"

"A Kairyu-class Japanese submarine which ran aground here during World War II," I informed them, swallowing thickly.

"What do these guys want with a seventy year old sub?"

"The sub isn't important," I told them, glancing from Shado to Oliver. "-but what's on it... it'll save the human race." I might be scared of Ivo, but I believe in the cause he is looking for.

"Will it save him?" Oliver and Shado looked to Slade in worry while I stared at the trees behind him.

I helped Oliver hold Slade up as we walked towards the coordinates. "We need to change directions to 10 degrees north," Shado informed us, not glancing back.

"We need to rest," Oliver told her, turning as we stepped down onto solid ground.

"If Ivo and any of his men survived that blast, they'll be tracking us. We keep moving," Slade groaned out, making me turn to him with narrowed eyes. He took in a deep breath. He gave in. "Five minutes." We lowered him down against a tree.

Oliver looked down at me with pleading eyes. "You watch him, please."

"Of course." I nodded my head and sat down beside Slade, giving him the last of my water that was left in the small pouch I had.

"HOW are you holding up?" I looked over at Shado who seemed to be ignoring me. I grunted, almost loosing my footing as I kicked a root.

"I could do with better looking crutches," Slade joked, giving Shado a smile which made me smile. He was in love with her.

"You two seem like you've gotten pretty chummy," Oliver spoke as Shado walked away, an undertone of jealousy in his voice.

"We're here." Oliver and I let go of Slade in shock. There the ship sat. It was wrecked, but still good enough to stay afloat.

"There must be a fissure in the island below the waterline for it to come that far inland."

"Unbelievable."

WE practically slid down the ladder into the inside of the ship. My head hit the ladder, making me groan loudly. I shook my head quickly before grabbing onto Slade to help Oliver carry him.

Before we ventured further into the ship, we had to stop and let Slade sit down on the floor.

"He doesn't have long," Shado stated, making me nod in agreement, glancing at Slade.

"If this miracle drug is onboard, then we need to find it now," Oliver told us roughly. "Slade, we'll be back in a few minutes, okay?"

"I'll just get comfortable," he mumbled, laying his head on the cool wall.

"Come on." We walked into the another part of the ship. "There." I pointed towards a draw. Shado pulled it out, revealing medicine. "Mirakuru."

"Miracle," Oliver whispered.

"I was never sure it was real," I stated in awe. Maybe Ivo was right; maybe this is what will save the human race.

"What happens if we give it to Slade?"

"He needs a sedative in his bloodstream first." I frowned and shook my head at Oliver.

"They might have potassium bromide or barbital." We looked through the cabinets only to find one needle and it was empty. "Oh. It's empty."

"What happens if we give it to him without the sedative?" I looked at the empty needle. "Sara!"

I shook my head, snapping myself out of my daze to stare at Oliver. "He'll die, for sure."

"He's going to die anyway," Shado states angrily.

It was quiet between the three of us, allowing us to focus on the clanking noise coming from above us.

"What was that?"

"Ivo and his men." I paused, my heart beating against my ribcage like a wild animal trying to get free. "They're on the sub."

AS Oliver rushed towards Slade with the Mirakuru, I ran towards the door and shut it.

"Now this, it could save you..." Oliver held up the Mirakuru. "Or it could kill you."

"By the looks on your faces, I'm going to die anyway." We all sucked in a breath, glancing at one another. Shado approached him. "Sorry."

"For what?"

Slade weakly lifted a hand to twirl a strand of her hair around his finger. "For not telling you how I really feel." He looked to Oliver, swallowing quickly. "Do it."

Oliver bent down and quickly injected it into Slade's leg. Everything was okay for a few seconds until he started groaning in pain. Slade began yelling and thrashing around. We had to hold him down, making sure he wouldn't hurt himself. "No!"

Slade slowly became quieter until he was looking at the opposite wall, blood pouring from his eyes. He stilled. He wasn't moving.

The three of us stood in shock until reality slammed back into us. I bent down and checked his neck for a pulse, but there was nothing. I shook my head at Oliver and Shado, backing up slowly.

"No." Oliver shook his head in denial. "Please. Please!" He shouted, gripping Slade's shirt in desperation. "Please."

Suddenly, Ivo and his men burst in, guns raised. Stepping away from Slade, the three of us backed away as far as we could.
